trying to solve the question of why a brand-new roller coaster malfunctioned and stranded riders high in the air. that's our top story. good afternoon. a new ride at the six flags amusement park in veal is closed today after a malfunction left riders stuck 150 feet in the air for hours. alex sav idge is -- alex

savidge has more. >> reporter: the superman roller coaster ran into trouble right tas was shooting straight up in the air -- right as it was reaching its highest point. minute ebbs crews were out on a crane -- maintenance crews were out on a crane early this morning inspecting the ride at six flags. they didn't find anything wrong with the track itself as they try to find out why the ride stalled out, stranding riders for an hour and a half. >> there are safety reasons and that might cause the ride to stop. but we won't know until we do the testing. >> reporter: crews used a bucket attached to a crin to

give the riders water and -- crane to give the riders water and sunscreen. >> i think at first they were worried but as time went on, i think they were a little bit more worried. >> reporter: eventually they got the riders back down. >> i -- six flags did offer season passes to all of the riders who got stuck on the superman ride yesterday but a park spokesperson tells me, we're told the superman ride will remain closed down for the

foreseeable future. alex sal idge, kut salvidge, ktvu, channel 2 news. investigators say natasha nolan got into a fight with a 20-year-old woman and somehow the door of the bus opened. both women fell out. the bus was going 45 miles an hour and ran over nolan. the chp is now investigating why the door came open. >> did somebody say hey, you guys are fighting or did the door open on its own? did the girls while they were juveniling hit a button -- scuffling hit a button? >> officers arrested two men for public drunkenness, this

comes on the he'lls of a bill introduced to crack down on drinking and driving under age on party buses. james holmes was in court today. holmes is charged with one count of possession of explosives in addition to the murder charges. cameras were not allowed in court today but when holmes made his court appearance a week ago, his hair was died red. he was -- was dyed red. he looked dazed and confused. a battle of two tech companies is beginning today. apple and samsung are locked in a multi-million dollar dispute. kara has more. >> reporter: right now jury selection isunderway here in san jose. this jury pool is from the

shoppers. stockton street will reopen. >> drivers in berkeley may be able to avoid ashby avenue. there will be work going on there from from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. work will continue through august 16th. caltrans says there could be delays up to 30 minutes at sol of the intersections. one of two men wanted in the disappearance of a missing girl has turned himself in. he surrendered to authorities last night. investigators believe his 19- year-old son may have investigated the 16-year-old and is taking her to mexico. they've issued an amber alert for the girl. the men are interested persons of interest in shooting deaths. there is also a search today for a man wounding an 8- year-old girl an a 22-year-old

man. the sheriff's department is saying that the two victims were inside a house on franklin avenue on saturday. a car stopped out in front and a man got out and fired one or two rounds. the victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. presumption romney is in poleland and -- and before poland, romney made comments in israel which outraged palestinian leaders. he called jerusalem israel's cap fall and says the culture is what's allowed the country to be more economically successful. a senior aide called the statement racist. former president clinton,

cal will not have a big bonfire rally. the tradition at the greek heater is being canceled due to a scheduling conflict. the "chronicle" reports that they were forced to move the games to october 20th. but there is a bob dylan concert at the theater when the rally was to be held. the rally will be at edwards track with no bonfire. cal is following the lead of many prosport teams in adopting a dynamic pricing

system. that means thicket -- that means that ticket prices will be based on supply and demand. tickets for this season's games against rival stanford will cost at legal $6. workers this morning installed the first steel columns that will provide the framework for the 49er stadium. the builders say the new stadium will be environmentally friendly. >> reporter: construction workers harn esed and hissed up -- harnessed and hissed up -- hoisted up. >> all of this was built with five states involved. so the economic benefits are here in the valley but they also extend beyond. >> reporter: by the ed of the year more than 100,000 people will be working. the 1 point -- $the 1.1 billion
