p.m. tear flaw. >> reporter: well, pam, one man had to climb out a window. a woman helped him to do. the two were trapped by a locked gate. firefighters arrived within minutes and were able to bust that down. the woman we talked to was very emotional when she described what happened. >> i heard my roommate, the house is on fire. i heard the cracking and the popping. i grabbed my cat and purse. we all got out but -- everything is gone, everything we own.

i don't have nothing. >> reporter: it was a two-alarm fire so it took aggressive attacking. neighbors say they spotted sparks coming from the home's fuse box. some crews working on the home this morning sold us there are a lot of additions to this house and they noticed code violations. no word upon what that might play into the investigation. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:03. well, oakland's embattled police department is moving closer to a possible federal takeover. alex savidge tells us this is after new criticism and a disturbing discovery. alex? >> reporter: well, offensive photos have come to light. according to reports, they were posted on a bulletin board. they reportedly show jean quan and the federal judge, henderson, the man who will be

deciding whether to place the oakland police department under federal law. according to one individual, they were shown to be in a racist way. the monitor, the individual, also cited occupy protests and shootings as well. the department, as you will remember, was ordered to make all of these changes in response to accusations of police misconduct back in 200. by the way, the in -- 2000. by the way, the internal affairs department investigated those photos posted here at headquarters and they could not figure out who put those photos up. i did reach out for a comment

just physical in san jose. 21-year-old gar syria-torres was arrest the back in may accused of kidnapping and murdering sierra lamar. he could finally enter a plea today. we've called the district attorney's office and the court and the sheriff's office for the latest but have yet to hear back. sierra lamar went missing in the mid. of march on her we school but never made it there. police have found her cell phone, clothes and other evidence, but investigators have still not found her body. that will be one of the challenges for prosecutors in this case. live in san jose, kara lu, ktvu

road. tara moriarty is there an tells us how the fire -- and tells us how the fire department is responding. >> reporter: well, they will be fulling -- pulling up the permits to this house to make sure everything was up to renovation. because there were no walls in some parts of this house, this fire just took off. one man had to climb hout the window to escape claims. a woman living inside the house helped him down. they ran into the backyard but got trapped by a locked gate. luckily, firefighters arrived within a minute and busted it down. residents say the fire went out right when they noticed sparks and flames. >> the fire broke out at the house just before 10:00 last night on the 2800 block of 82nd avenue near golf links road. six people were inside when the fire started. >> we got the cat out. there was another cat, indoor outdoor cat. i'm not sure if she got out or
