, the campaign office is now boarded up and all the shattered glass that was out there has been cleared away and the investigation into the vandalism that happened here continues. >> reporter: this is the scene last night as campaign workers cleaned up some of the mess. it is first friday last night and a lot of people in the up town area and the monthly block party of food and art festival that happens every friday and it is just before 9:00 when 200 people began marching through the street and gathered at the intersection of 17th and telegraph. a group of people splintered off from the crowd and came back to the obama campaign office and 18th and telegraph and used metal bars and objects to smash in the objects. >> we are very upset about what has happened. >> we are families. young people and everybody is enjoying the streets and

enjoying, you know, a nice eke. and then we have -- nice evening. and then we have to see the damage here. all it does is make oakland looks like a problem city. the thing is, it makes it looks like it is a problem city. >> reporter: now some campaign workers were inside the office when the vandalism happened and they described the vandals had their faces covered. no one was hurt and the vandals. some of them had paintball guns they were shooting. you can see some of the paint splattered on the window of this campaign office. we checked in to see there are surveillance video and part of their investigation and we are waiting to get another update from oakland place. >> ali rasmus. ktvu -- allie rasmus. this happened at an apartment complex at summit street in oakland.

a police sergeant told ktvu it all started with an attempted break in. a man shot and killed a suspect as he was trying to get into the apartment. homicide detectives have not arrested the shooter. they are still trying to iron out the details. police say someone called 911 just after 3:00 this morning -- morning to say they were shot on the park. when officers arrived they found a man who was shot at least once and he was pronounced dead at the scene. they have not identified any suspects yet. this is san jose's 24th homicide of the year. originally on two with us is pended sheriff ross miles an hour careen any -- any -- -- mirkarini. he invited ktvu to reflect on the past year. a month lift add protective

afternoon. 10 to 20%. again, it is not a whole lot but we will keep it with us. who has a better chance. it is the sierra, where we have a red flag warning in place. and especially today the possibility of thunderstorms and dry lightning. the atmosphere is so strong. or i should say so cry ha even the rain is not necessarily going to hit the ground. but the lightning strikes will and bring on the fire danger. the red flag warning. parts of lake county as well. we will feel a little muggy perhaps in the afternoon when it becomes warm in some spots and 56 in hayward and five in concord. your afternoon highs for today. below average this time of year. 73 expected in santa rosa. and san rafael. head a little south. 57 degrees. on the bay side of oakland. go inland and it is warm but nothing like what we saw even

these are the campaign headquarters in oakland. the windows have been boarded up. 9:30 last night they broke away what is to be an anti police march. they used them to shatter the windows. the up town area is part of the friday first cultural events walk. >> when i saw this, i thought oakland, we try to do things that are great in oakland. and you get knuckleheads that come here and have to do this. >> there are between 200 marchers. they said they were following the protestors and no word on how many were arrested. this is the recent crackdown. dispute people riding amtrak, train service on two trains are being eliminated starting august 13th.

virus. she was 88 years old. the virus is showing up early this year. so far, ten peoples have gotten sick, compared to the same time last year, when there were only seven human cases and no deaths. for all of 2011, there were nine deaths reported. nationwide, west nile is at its worst rate since 2004. more than 240 cases have been reported, including four deaths. in sonoma county, two groups of mosquitoes tested positive for the virus. they are reminds residents to check their yards for standing water and report mosquito issues to the district. lightning is raising a fire danger in the sierra nevada. there a red flag warning for the higher elevations. they reported more than 2000 lightning strikes last month. all that lightning started 70

north over the course of today. areas near monterey are reporting lightning strikes this morning. this is a disturbance that is tapping into the monsoonal moisture. the two combined is what will bring us the possibility of thunderstorms throughout the afternoon. for us it is a slight chance over the hills and mountains. for the sierra, it is a bigger chance, there is a red flag warning for the sierras starting later day. if you are headed there, this is definitely something worth noting. areas of clear lake are also going to see a red flag warning later today. so this is going to continue again to work its way to the north over the course of the afternoon. once we get rid of the low clouds, we'll continue with the mid and high level clouds. a little coastal drizzle at the coast. the sea breeze is stronger. we have a good breeze blowing to the delta, fairfield, near and the i don't care.

. the oakland a's continue their habit of winning in walk- off fashion. early on, it looked like they would cruise to a win over the blue jays, but there was a game tying homer in the ninth that took it to the 15th inning. coco crisp got a sac fly. they had two pies in the face, compliments of josh reddick in a spiderman conference. the giants won in denver. the rockies would respond with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. but the giants extended the lead in the eighth after a couple wild pitches and a home run from buster posey.

weather for us. might be humid, cool, right? >> the number is rolling back for the afternoon. south westerly breeze kicking up through the delta this morning. take a look at this. it is trying to rain. most if not all hitting the ground. what we have detected in the last half hour to 45 minutes is a few lightning strikes over parts of the delta. and areas near liver more to the east, in between tracy, the possibility there. so we are going to again see the possibility and the threat for thunderstorms today. dry thunderstorms are the bigger concern. there is the fire danger there. temperature-wise, low 50s to low 60s. by noon, mid 50s from the bay inland. for the afternoon, two to four degrees cooler expected around the bay inland to be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, with upper 70s to low 80s in the forecast. there is the extended forecast there. the disturbance is going to continue to move north and east
