amount of jewelry. om on 2 tonight ktvu's eric rasmussen share why some are wondering if the men have done this before? >> reporter: it happened so quickly a man with a gun was on top of this jewelry storeowner and her husband before they knew. it as the gunman jumped over- the-counter two others moved in behind him, five cameras inside juliana's fine jewelry recorded the robbery that lasted 53 seconds friday morning. >> it was fast and brutal. >> reporter: when one employee made a run for the door they tackled him down and the 87-year-old man went after the man with it gun before he was slammed to the floor, hit his head on i jewelry case. but when the masked-men mad their getaway, one camera caught a clean view of least one of their faces. >> he came in through the front door with a sledgehammer through the glass. >> reporter: a day earlier on the other side of the bay, pave's jewelry store in oakland was the target of a similar robbery.

a series of surveillance cameras at the jewelry store gave employees a good look at the men who were about to rob them and a buzzer slowed them down just enough to everyone could get to safety. the owner said he is grateful for the support from neighboring businesses since the robbery. and while police are still reviewing the video from this heist, endlich wonders if there is a connection. >> there are a very few number of people doing this and once they are not on the streets anymore, i think that will make everything a lot safer. >> reporter: eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news r. you would go to ktvu.com for the full surveillance footage of the jewelry store robbery in the video player on our homepage. more details now, thursday's jewelry store robbery in oakland was latest in a rash of crimes along college avenue the merchant's association confirmed 20 commercial break-ins and think a man arrested during an

attempted burglary at pasta podiumoreo last week could be responsible for those break- ins. >> we have developing news out of mountainoy county. police say a 16-year-old girl kid after a double-homicide has been found and her suspected kidnapper is in custody. authorities say eunice serrato and her boyfriend juan salazar, jr. turned themselves in to border agents this morning. that is the same day authorities found r found two men dead inside her parent's house. salazar is a suspect in those killings. . hundreds of firefighters descend on a steep hillside in santa cruz county where winds threatened to whip a fire towards homes. the fire is now out, but ktvu's patti lee joins us from santa cruz county where she learned the threat so far from over. patti. >> reporter: that is right there.

is a threat of dry lightning strikes tonight and through tomorrow. whether lightning was the cause of this morning's fire is unphone, but the incident commanders say investigators are still on scene looking for a cause. 250 firefighters, four air tankers and two helicopters were key to beating back these flames. >> he i woke up to helicopter sounds, and then i looked outside and saw all of this smoke and thought it was smog at first. >> reporter: a 1 call this morning alerted calfire to smoke sights in the las cumbres neighborhoods. crews spotted flames around boulder creek, because of heavy cloud cover, the fire was initially believed to cover 30 acres. it turned out to be just over six acres, but on tougher terrain. >> it's tough accesses, one way in, one way out, so from were evacuations it could have been a difficult situation to get fire equipment in and residents out. >> reporter: chp and the santa cruz fire

department was on scene to assist is roadblocks or evacuations. >> the area is mountainous and farly rural. it takes a long time to get here. >> reporter: with wind threatening to whip up the fire, one homeowner evacuated voluntarily while others got ready it leave. >> it wasn't sort of immediate danger, but i thought let's pack our stuff. right through the canyon and over the house here. >> she said she watched from her deck as men and machines fought fire with water and retardant. as the hours passed she packedp her pets and prepared for the worst. >> i have stuff prepared. we are all pretty prepared up here in this community. so i did have boxes of stuff and kind of had them in mind where they were, just in case. >> reporter: it took about five hours to contain this fire, but 100 firefighters stayed on site, looking for hotspots. most are still there, but will be returning to their own districts or stations in the next hour or so. and i'm told that at least one crew will be staying here in

the las cumbres neighborhood in case of case of flare-ups. the threat of lint is raising fire dangerous in sierra, calfire says the no. 1 danger is dry lightning. a monsoon system from southern california is producing dozens ever dry lightning strikes. calfire says hundreds of extra crews are head to the sierra as a precaution. let's go ahead and get more on the lightning situation with our meteorologist mark tamayo. mark you are tracking things, tell us about it. >> a bit of a strange sight for the first weekend of august. as you can see right now we have activity showing up on live stormtracker radar. not all of this reaching the ground, but this is a radar loop over the past couple of hours. you can see the progression with the cells. if i could bring you the most recent imagery and the action moving in from the south, so can you pick out the current pattern. in fact, we're going to come in tighter and show you the north
