>> hello. i'm heather hoppings. authorities are calling domestic terrorism after a shooting inside a temple today in wisconsin. it left seven people dead including the suspected gunman. authorities are trying to find what led up to the shooting. >> it's sad to hear that people -- those guys. >> reporter: the deadly attack started inside the temple in milwaukee just before 10:30 local time as services were about to start. a gunman opened fire, killing four people inside the temple, three people died outside including the suspected gunman. police say the shooter exchanged gun fire with the first officer on the scene. >> extremely accomplished tactical officer. when he lifed -- arrived on the scene he engaged the active shooter. multiple rounds were exchanged. the officer was shot.

>> reporter: members of the temple gathered in the parking lot waiting for word on family and friends. there are report that some of the temple members ran and hid after the gun shots. >> they are texting, we are getting texts. >> reporter: a few hours later a swat team swept the temple to make sure everybody was out and safe. at least four people were rushed to the hospital. the officer who was shot is a 20 year veteran of the department. he is expected to survive his injuries. meantime the small but growing community is trying to come to grip was the tragedy. >> all of them are loved. >> reporter: more details on that temple in wisconsin. according it it's website the church started in 1997. they first met in meeting halls. they have now grown to 350 to

400 members. the building also includes a library, educational area for children and daycare. the president expressed his sympathies to those affected by the deadly attack. in a statement he said at this difficult time the people of oak creek must know that the american people have them in our thoughts and prayers and our hearts go out to the family and friends of those killed and wounded. the bay area community is watching the event and in just ten we will hear hear from one man who said this tragedy hits close to home. >> we are just a few hours from a daring mission to land on mars. we want to show you a live picture now of the clock on nasa's website. the rover is scheduled to land in five hours 27 minutes and 40 seconds. christian is live at nasa where there is nervous an anticipation for this mars mission. >> reporter: yeah. nervous and crowds starting to

turn out. you can see people people starting to show up to watch the landing. they are preparing for thousands of guests and you can see a lot of them lining up to watch that landing on one of two giant screens, that probe set to touchdown tonight at 10:31. we have animation of what is expected to happen tonight. sciencists will land the one ton rover using a technique never before used. they worked on the parachute of chute that will slow it from 8,000 miles an hour down and then it'll be lower from a rocket propelled sky crane. all of this will be accomplished without help from mission control here on earth. mars is so faraway sciencists can't get messages in time so it's automated. they wouldn't know if it's safely on the surface until seven minutes after its touched down or crashed on mars. sciencists here say this new

rover is to big to land using air bags like other missions. >> we couldn't land it directly with rockets on the ground, it would blow a hole to big to get out of. the only thing is to lower it from the sky. it's a new approach. where it had to go. its been tested in pieces. i'm pretty confident it'll work. >> reporter: the field has been set up to accommodate the crowd expected to be on hand. they started showing up at about four this afternoon ready to watch the next step. >> i think maybe one day we may be able to live on mars which is pretty cool. it's like exploring and seeing if you can live on it, who knows, maybe aliens. >> reporter: and coming back to the live shot you can see people still streaming in, the last update on the mission was that it was in a near perfect angle to enter the atmosphere.

we will have a crew on hand to watch as they watch history. we are live, ktvu channel 2news. >> taking another look at the countdown to landing continues, five hours, 25 minutes. this will happen about 10:30 tonight our time and of course we will let you know. ahead at 5:30 we will check back in on the excitement that continues to grow. >> a hostage situation at a big 5 sporting good in yuba city ended with the arrest of the suspect. witnesses say a man came in to the store with a gun at 11:30. he fired in the air and then grabbed a cashier by the throat. he then held her and another employee hostage for four hours in a back office area. an employee worried just last night about this kind of event. >> it's kind of funny because yesterday when i was work i was closing and i was just thinking -- i was like what happen itself someone does come in?

what's the procedure? we have never been told like -- like what doors to lock, anything like that where to hide. >> reporter: there were shoppers and employees in the store. no word on injuries. >> a man and woman were wounded in a early morning shooting in oakland. it happened about 2:00 a.m. near 19th. when officer ass arrived a van had its front window shot out. they didn't release the extent of injuries but say they were in stable condition. police hope surveillance video from nearby store also help them in the investigation. >> police arrested a concord man yesterday suspect of a deadly attack outside the martinez chamber of commerce. the suspect hit the female victim outside the office at about 7:30 last night.

witnesses report seeing the man strike her and then walk away. the victim was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. authorities have not released the victim's identity or what may have triggered the attack. >> happening now protesters are marching toward the lawrence livermore laboratory. they want to draw attention to the nuclear bombings in japan that ended world war ii. patty lee is live to tell us what they plan to do once they get the there. >> reporter: we are live, and can see about a hundred people have gathered to honor the victims. in about 30 minutes they will walk over to livermore lab and will carry paper chains like this and signs like this to symbolicly foreclose on the lab. the founder of the lab helped create the atom bomb. the lab stands to receive millions of dollars in funding for its nuclear weapons activity and they say that's

necessary for national security. >> to say we want money spent on human needs and to retire nuclear weapons. >> there are no -- we do -- we ensure that the one that are existing, the old ones are still safe. >> reporter: as you can see security at the lab has been beefed up ahead of the protesters arriving. the gates will be locked and livermore police are on hand. in addition to the always heavy security detail. trying to keep our voices low because of a series of speakers including a survivor of the bombing. this speaking event will end in about half an hour and they will start their march to the lab. reporting live in livermore. patty lee. >> authorities on the peninsula today are warning residents about a search for a suspect car thief in a neighborhood. police say the man ditched the stolen cara round six this morning around interstate 280 near the bunker hill drive

exit. he then ran toward the highlands neighborhood. officers did not name the suspect but say he is 26 african american, 5'4'' and weighs about 140 pounds. they say if you see him call the police and do not try to stop him. >> strong winds are making matters worse for fire crews battling a fire. the united states forest service released this picture of the chips fire burning north of sacramento. the blaze has grown to about 9200 acres and fire officials say right now there is no containment. of course with the weather conditions last night we were talking about the possibility of lightning strikes. >> yeah. right now, as you can see right now on the live storm tracker 2 radar. over the past two hours no thunderstorms in the bay area. that was a concern yesterday but you can seat activity with the thunderstorms to the east of eureka and the west of redding here. you can pick out probably

closer to weaverville, willow creek. we have intense cells, watch that in the next few hours. we have fog and clearing near parts of the immediate shoreline, most of the significant fog and hugging the coast from point reyes to bodega bay. warmest inland, in the upper 70's to the lower 80's. today a bit warmer than yesterday. once again the satellite and radar closer inspection. once again the showers and the thunderstorms moving out but flairing up just to the east. we have the fog and with -- first thing tomorrow morning, right around the bay. those temperatures mainly in the low to mid50s. start out your monday morning and we have a warming trend. just by comparison you can see what happens for tomorrow. warmest inland on track to reach the upper 80's to around 90 and the warming continues. when a few neighborhoods could have the century mark and also the hottest day of the

. a suspected car thief was hurt last night after he allegedly led officer on a chase through oakland. the pursuit started around 11:30 on 20th avenue near international boulevard. the chase ends when the suspect hit a traffic pole and a barryer at the lake marrot apartments. the suspect was taken away in an ambulance. a man in san francisco is recovering after he was shot by police during a foot chase. police say they got a report of a man with a gun around 6:30 last night. officers spotted the man and chased him. police say during that chase the man turned toward an officer with a gun in his hand and that's when one officer opened fire. the man was taken to san francisco general hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. the officer wasn't hurt. >> now back to the continuing coverage of that deadly shooting at a temple in

wisconsin. today's rampage is bringing back painful memories in the east bay. in 2000 a man opened fire inside a temple here. we are there live with one man's connection to the wisconsin tragedy. >> reporter: the temple here already has security cameras but they say after what happened in wisconsin, they will be increasing security and awareness. on a day devoted to worship news of the outside world and the shooting came in slowly. for one member of the temple it hit home. >> we are from milwaukee wisconsin. >> reporter: he quickly made contact with his friends and relatives there, some who were inside the temple when the gun fire started. >> even the person i heard -- he got killed he is one of my family members. >> reporter: the incident prompted immediate action here.

while the temple already has an advanced security system they say they will do more. >> there will be -- we have to be security here. we are also scared in a sense that there could be a copy cat. >> reporter: while they will preach awareness inside they need to preach outside their walls. they believe fear sometimes comes from ignoo rance. >> every time people look at the thank the turban they think it's afghanistan. >> reporter: members say they understand the impact of this kind of violence. they dealt with a shooting here in 2000. >> that shouldn't happen, especially in the temple, churches, that's the place to worship god. >> reporter: they say for now all they can do is pray for peace and the victims. the temple president said that while they do welcome everybody through their doors they will

now tell people to pray closer attention to strangers. >> the council on american islamic relations offered support to the victims writing american muslims stand with their brothers and sisters. we pray for those who were killed or hurt and offer sympathy to their loved ones. they urge extra security precautions at all places of worship. be sure to go to the website for the latest developments on the temple shooting in wisconsin. just look for the national tab on the home page. >> the man charged with a deadly tucson shooting rampage that injured gabreille giffords is expected to change his plea to guilty. the report is out today saying that he will enter the plea tuesday as part of a plea deal. he had pled not guilty to 49 charges in the shooting that killed six people. since then he has been treated for mental illness. a guilty plea would send him to prison for life. new documents reveal 125

. seven people are dead after a mass shooting inside a wisconsin temple. the gunman opened fire just as services were about to start this morning. the first police officer on the scene exchanged gun fire with the suspected shooter, killing him. the officer was wounded but is expected to survive. authorities say the shooting is a case of domestic terrorism. they haven't released information on the suspected shooter or what may have triggered the attack. >> i saw that. >> that was a survivor of the world war ii bombing in japan. and he others today are taking part in an anti nuclear march toward the laboratory. organizers say the lab shouldn't be spending money on new nuclear weapons. sciencists there say they aren't. a man is under arrest after holding two employees hostage at a big 5 sporting store.

filling in. getting ready to watch it. it'll be lowered on auto pilot. we are animation showing what will happen. the space craft will enter the atmosphere and slow all the way down to 1.2 miles an hour in seven minutes. several of the stages were tested developed here at nasa including tests on the parachute and the heat shield. once the craft slow down it'll be lower from a rocket propelled sky crane finally touching down on the surface. with we talked earlier with one of the sciencist who worked on the heat shield critical of protecting the space craft as it speakers and he is optimistic. >> my first job was apollo. i have seen a lot of success. if we have any issues we will go forward. i'm confident that the entry part will work.

around 2:30 tomorrow afternoon in front of the 101 california building. they are angry over low wages and continued hikes in health care all while they clean buildings for multibillion dollar corporations. >> the legislature goes back in session this week. the budget passed in june, it depends on voter approval of the governor's tax initiative in november. voters have new reasons to be skeptical. during the recess they found that the department of parks and rec stashed nearly $54 million in hidden accounts and that lawmakers gave races raises to more than a thousand employees. new retirees may get less in social security than they paid during their working life. analysis by the associated press used the example of a middle class couple who paid

warming up. a few neighborhood around 100 degrees over the next few days. the weekend a bump in the numbers for today. the fog cleared this afternoon but regrouping will be a falk offer for overnight. you can see the impressive thunderstorms to the west of redding here and just out toward the -- right around hey fork. watching out for those. up toward northern california we have this. low clouds and fog, regrouping near parts of the shoreline and significant overcast out toward point reyes and bodega bay. as far as temperatures from today, they warmed up a little bit. today the warmer of the two days this weekend. they range for the lower 60's in pacifica and san francisco. warmest locations inland pretty nice in the 80s. san jose around 75 degrees.

forecast headlines for tonight. partly cloudy and coastal fog. tomorrow patchy morning fog. we will warm it up in the extended. warming trend and hot numbers returning, at least for parts of the inland seventh here you can pick out in the satellite we have the fog a factor near parts of the shoreline. this will be the key player over the next few days as it's high builds in. this is a sinking air, it warms, you can see the temperature trend for today. not much change but look what happens tuesday into thursday. by thursday warmest locations on track to reach 95, 96 degrees in a few neighborhoods could be around 100 degrees that. will be thursday, friday and possibly in to the upcoming weekend. hot temperatures for several days, tomorrow heading in this direction but nothing to major for monday. here is the forecast model showing you the fog regrouping, first thing monday, here we are 6:00 and you can pick out the overcast around the coast and near parts of the bay. in to the afternoon, clearing

skies, maybe a leftover patch of fog, near parts of the shoreline. this red contour, this links up with the 90s what the warmest location around 90 degrees for tomorrow afternoon. here is a look at the forecast highs, clear lake at 91, fairfield at 90, and santa rosa in the lower 80's. oakland in the lower 70's and there you can pick out the heat. nothing to major but things will warm up later in the five day forecast. san jose around are 84 and san francisco around 69. here is a look ahead. the five day forecast and you will notice this. not much change into tuesday, comparing monday into tuesday but there is the evidence with the warming trend. for wednesday, thursday, friday, back up in to the upper 90's. hot temperatures will stay around for the inland for the upcoming week. at least the other extreme to keep us in the cool side. that will be the coast with the readings in the 60s. few upper 90's.
