good morning to you welcome. mornings on 2 i am dave clark. >> i am tori campbell. it's friday august 10th and we have break news in san rafael. let's find out why sheriff deputies are warming on the county juvenile hall. sal. >> reporter: well, this is video that we took earlier this morning in the north bay. a deputy converged at juvenile hall in san rafael. they won't comment about what's going on but we have reason to believe they are lacking -- look for someone. we see the dogs searching the grounds and possibly could be someone escaped juvenile hall but it's interesting because wesaw a broken window and a sledge hammer outside. it's possible maybe someone tried to break in to take somebody out. but what we do know for sure is there's huge police presence here at juvenile hall. we have a news crew headed to the scene almost there also the news chopper 2 is in the area. so we will show you more pictures about what's -- of what's going on here at

juvenile hall, but, it's probably a good area to stay away from as you can see heavy police presence. 7:01 let's go back to the desk. >> all right. police in san jose investigating an early morning stabbing. they got a call that a man had been stabbed and was suffering serious injuries. he was rushed to the hospital. he is expected to survive. police blocked off a quarter of a mile of mclaughlin avenue because of a what they are calling a very messy crime scene. that street has been reopened. so far, there are no information about a possible suspect or a motive. also new video of this, an suv engulfed in flames. several hours ago, this happened in oakland near 98th avenue. when firefighters arrived, that chevy suburban was engulfed in flames. and then something exploded right there. while they were putting out the flames, luckily no one was hurt. the fire was put own in a -- out in a couple minutes no word on how it started or who owns

the vehicle. it's 7:02. there was also more bloodshed on the streets of oakland overnight. police are investigating two apparently separate shootings that happened around the same time. around 12:30 this morning, someone fired into a car on 19th street in san pablo near enterstate 980. one person was wounded and another died later at the hospital. in the meantime, a. reported robbery led to another shooting on deerwood avenue. no arrests has been made in either case. these two incidents are in the wake of a deadly double shooting wednesday night. 16-year-old turner was shot and killed on the 2700 block of talbot avenue she was high school student and mother of a 8-month-old baby. her father william turner was gun down four years ago and a 15-year-old cousin was killed in a shooting in july. time 7:03. developing news from overseas. three american soldiers have been killed in afghanistan. it happened in the southern

province of helmen. a man wearing a afghan uniform shot and killed them twhre. special forces members -- them. they were special force members overseeing the training. taliban claimed responsibility. so far this year there's been 21 similar attacks by afghan forces. 30 coalition service members have is been killed. this comes a day after the u.s. condemned the suicide bombing attack that killed four americans. coming up 579:15, we will have a live report -- at 7:5 we will have a live report on why the latest attacks are so alarming. the chevron fire investigation could officially begin as early as today. but first cal/osha has to give the green light. there are questions about the decision not to shut down the number 4 crude unit after a worker spotted a small leak. two hours before the fire. the chronicle reports that insulation around the leaking pipe may have caused chevron

an update on breaking news in san rafael at marin county juvenile hall facility. police say someone tried to break in to the facility using asledge hammer and tried to break a window. obviously, they took that serious lin and we are -- seriously and we are searching the area. no one escaped and now we have a lot of police activity there in this area. they are look for someone on the grounds here at marin county juvenile hall. this happened about an hour and a half ago. a reporter alex savage is at the scene and will have a live report from the scene coming up soon on mornings on 2. 7:14 let's go back to the desk. >> thank you. a horrific act of cannibalism in miami, florida. now the man who was attacked is speaking out for the first time. we want to warn you the images

major kevin griffith from colorado and sergeant -- excuse me and major thomas kennedy of west point. taliban is claiming responsibility. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:16. syria allegation -- serious allegation against a california veterans charity. state attorney general is suing the organization called help hospitalized veterans. it is in winchester about 80 miles east of los angeles. the organization director allegedly misused millions of dollars in private donations to pay for large pensions and other perks including 80,000 dollars in golf memberships for board members. the justice department says it will not prosecute goldman sachs or the employees after a financial fraud investigation. and now goldman sachs was accused of making money on the same subprime loans it was selling. the government says that's what led to the mortgage meltdown in

a shocking discovery underground in western russia. this is video of a home in the city. russian authorities say they found an 8 level bunker built by a religious sect. the government took away 27 children who were living there. some were a-year-old and police suspect many had never seen the light of day. there were more than 30 adults in the bunker which prosecutors described as an 8 level ant hill. they detected it in a investigation into militants. time 7:18. 26,000 marijuana plants in northern california have now been destroyed by law enforcement agencies. this is a biggest pot bust in the region so far this year. reports say the plants were growing on tribal land in a remote part of humboldt county. according to a new report lake tahoe is in better shape than expected. environmental researchers say the lake's clarity got better last year. that's despite snow melt from

the mobster winter of 2010 and 2011. until now the theory was snow melt would stir up the lake and decrease the clarity. but the clarity level by -- has increased by 4 1/2 feet which means the water is clear enough to see almost 69 feet under the surface. 7:19. a law forebidding government ate sis from cutting cell phone service without a court order is expected to be approved by the state senate. bill was drafted after bart blocked cell phones during a demonstration last august. that led to protests and comparisons between the transit agency and middle east dictator ships. the law would require a judge toish a court order based on proper cause before cell phone signals could be blocked. right now, bart has exceed the goals for the number of working escalators in the station. a new report shows only 7 of the 176 escalator at bart stations are out of service. that means 96% of them are

and we didn't know and she called the next morning and told me i said what? and she couldn't hardly talked but they released her. >> reporter: what are you hoping from from chevron? >> just being keeping it real being right because they didn't do us right last time when people got sick. they gave out little nothing. they wouldn't pay the bills the medical bills. >> reporter: you are hoping for medical bills to be paid for. there are a lot of people up here we talked to. we talked to a woman who said her son is getting breathing treatments and he had asthma and she think is is aggrevated by the cloud of moke. we have seen more and more people beginning to arrive. one person said they did call the hotline but the person was not able to give that much information and she want 20d come down -- wanted to come down to make sure the claim was heard. this all comes in the wake as more reports are coming out. we looked at a 72-hour report to the county by chevron that talks about the compound and

whoever was trying to break into the juvenile hall. [audio not understandable] someone inside to get them outbut they were unsuccessful and they used bolt cutters to cut a outside fence and spotted by staff using a sledge hammer to breakthrough one of the walls. that's when the marin county sheriff office launched a searched and searched the surrounding valley looking for the two men who were trying to break into the facility. they ended up not being able to find the two people. the search just has been called off a short time ago. and now the investigation will continue. they will be speaking with some of the inmates at juvenile hall trying to figure out if they can point them in the right direction as to who it was trying to break into the facility early this morning in an obvious attempt to try to break someone out. >> alex, you said it's on lock downright now the facility at this point? >> reporter: the facility was for a brief time on in sort of

boardwalk when he was shot. police say they believe the shooting is related to gang violence in watsonville. east bay authorities say two people chose the wrong night to allegedly pull off a caper. on tuesday night, 25-year-old stoney rodriguez and 19-year- old rebecca hunter tried to buy merchandise at an albany target with stolen credit cards. tuesday was national night out where neighbors held anticrime block parties. alert residents saw the chase and helped officers track down the two suspects who were arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property. time 7:36. happening right now, mourners in wisconsin are gathering as we speak. this is a high school. they are paying respects to the victims of sunday's mass shooting at a sikh temple. now six people were killed in that shooting and three ours wounded. we are watching a huge crowd of people there looking at the screen and you see the photos of the victims. police say the gunman in this

here. the sacrate heart community center is giving away the most in its history. more than 2400. you can see many on the wall. doors open up at 10 and students will be able to come in and pick out the favorite backpack. some people have been lining up since last night for theappointments and the donation drive started june 1st and the community really stepped up this year with such a high demand. the charity believes low income students shouldn't face additional challenge because they don't have the resource to purchase the necessary supplies. organizers say the need is getting greater in the community. >> people struggling as a result of the economy. there's a lot of shifts in employment out there. so many people still have not found the jobs yet. >> there a specific color or style? >> pink. >> why pink? >> because i love pink. >> reporter: yeah and michelle we have a pink backpack for you here along with the backpack each child gets school supplies,appropriate for their grade level and you can see

rick leventhal is live in oak creek wisconsin where hundreds of people are gathering now and remembering those lives that were lost. rick. >> reporter: dave, it's a solemn occasion focused on healing and held at the oak creek highs school not far from the temple where the shooting took place and chosen because it's large enough to accommodate thousands of people who are turning out to pay their respects to the sikh community and six minutes of the community who were shot and killed on sunday morning. you can see the line of worshipers and mourners heading inside the doors. and we can take you live inside to show you the ceremony itself that's taking place. a memorial service is filled with prayers and hymns and there will be speeches at noon eastern time. including those from governor scott walker. we expect paul ryan to speak and attorney general erik holder is expected to speak at noon eastern time in this

memorial service. after the ceremony here, the mourners will return to the sikh temple which is now reopened to members. there will be a traditional 48 hour ceremony at that temple where they will read the holy book cover to cover and honor memories of the victims of the shooting. again six people were killed three others badly wounded. one of those wounded police officer lieutenant brian murphy, 51 years old, a 21 year veteran of the oak creek police department is doing much, much better. he was up and walk around his room a couple days ago and his condition is upgraded to satisfactory. two others are still in the hospital recovering in critical and serious condition. so certainly a lot to mourn here and there's a real deep sense among the sikh community they hope it can help educate people that they are a peace loving group and that this was in no way justified. dave. >> rick leventhal live from wisconsin thanks. it's 7:46 and in florida

attempted to break into marin county juvenile hall in an attempt, it seems to, break out a couple inmates. but they didn't succeed. this is a bold attempt. two people used bolt cuters to first cut through the perimeter fence here at the facility. after that, they used the sledge hammer and they tried to breakthrough one of the concrete walls to get inside the building. but at that time, staff members at the juvenile detention facility heard them and this is around 4:30 this morning. those people ran off and that's when the marin county sheriff's department was called in and launched a massive search but they were not able to find the two people. all of the juvenile inmates at this point have been accounted for. and right now, investigators are just trying to figure out which of the inmates was the target of the break in. >> we have sheriff investigators currently working on some leads. they are talking to the inmates inside the facility. we are examining who exactly is not here and what the records are and contacts are on the outside and hopefully that's going to develop leads for us.

8:29 a san jose police busy investigating a stabbing we first told you about at 4:30. police were called about 2 this morning. a man was stabbed and was seriously hurt. he was rushed to the hospital. he is expected to survive. police blocked off a quarter of a mile of mclaughlin avenue cleaning up a very messy crime scene. that street has been reopened.

so far we have no information about a suspect or a possible motive and there's new video of an suv engulfed in flames. several hours ago, in oakland, this happened near 98th avenue. when the firefighters arrived, that vehicle was already engulfed in flames and something blew up inside of it right there. firefighters were putting out the flames, and luckily no one was hurt. the fire was out in just a couple minutes. still no word on how it started or who owned that vehicle. people impacted by the chef ron refinery fire are lining up outside a new claims center that will open its doors in just about 30 minutes. we are jong live by claudine wong about what's going on at the center. >> reporter: inside there are claim adjusters to see the folks lining up. this is the front of the line. but, you can see i want to take you down the line because you can see it stretches halfway

knife -- juvenile hall using sledge hammers and bolt cutters. alex savidge is live where investigators believe the attempted break-in was a break out. what's going on alex? >> reporter: well, none of the 13 juvenile inmates were able to escape this morning. but apparently according to investigators, two people showed up here at the facility early this morning and they tried breaking into the place all in an attempt to help one of the inmates potentially escape. and how they did that was they came up here and they used bolt cutters to cut through the perimeter fence. this all happened around 4:30 this morning. two people used sledge hammers. and they tried to smack through a window on one of the buildings. after they got through the initial fence on the outside. but guards heard them banging on the side of the window there and smajing the -- smash the wino and -- smashing the window and the two people ran off. the sheriff office was called in and launched a major search

in the area. they searched the surrounding hillside but weren't able to find the two people involved. all of the juvenile inmates were immediately accounted for. and just to be on the safe side, they were all moved into one particular area of the facility. >> they went into an emergency mode and secured the children they have inside the numbers less than 20. and they were able to move them to a different part of the facility and implement the emergency procedures. >> reporter: the thinking is these two people trying to break into the facility drove up into the car and potentially walked up along a pathway and that's where investigators did find a backpack with some clothing in it this morning. also the tools involved in this break in attempt were left behind as well. bolt cutters and sledge hammer. but no good description on the two people investigators are look for. but we understand the sheriff's office will interview the 13 inmates here trying to get a better sense of which one of them may have been the target of the morning's escape
