out in broad day light. >> reporter: you could see 5 bullet holes in the window and two more just below the window, above the door handle. the 911 call came in this afternoon. >> upon arrival we located a vehicle, found one individual with gun shot wounds. >> police have little information on what happened. one officer said it appeared the driver of the car was stopped when the shots were fired. the intersection is littered with 20 yellow evident markers. she heard the shots. >> rabid shots, 14 all at once. and lots of cars driving down to where, i guess, it happened. >> reporter: another saw the car speeding south but there is no word if the shots were fired from car or foot. police do not have any information on who was responsibility. >> check with the community,

vehicle burst into flames. the second vehicle, one person was killed and one taken to the hospital. >> authorities haven't released the conditions of the injured victims. later, the driver of a van was killed in a roll over crash at 780 at 7:00 p.m. this morning. the california highway patrol says the driver was the only person in the vehicle. a passing driver says the van was speeding but the official cause is under investigation. authorities in napa are looking for a patient who went missing yesterday from a psychiatric facility. he walked away from the center around 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon. he is on medication and they are warning people not to approach them. he is african american, 6'1", 160 pounds. short black hair and wearing white shorts and a light

colored t-shirt. a organization that helps treat those suffering from mental illness is shutting down. they have been raising money since 1968. the house took in those with disorders and schizophrenia. a spokeswoman said the recession and declining membership led to the closure. oakland treatment center for women faces eviction this week. officials say they have till wednesday to pay $12,000 in back rent or be forced out. they serve 105 women a day. many who have been victims of abuse. ktvu's patty lee tells thus wh route for now. >> reporter: signs explain how its goal to treat abused women

. a water main break last night sent water through a neighborhood in walnut creak. it broke on second avenue at 10:00 p.m. last night. it flooded yards of a few homes. firefighters did what they could ebb to push the waw -- they could to push the walter away from -- the water away from the houses. a man that was struck by a bart train last night died. it is unclear how he ended up on the tracks. the train operator stopped the train and it was closed for two hours. friends and family of a teenager who died in a freak water craft accident in hawaii are gather for a individual

tonight. ktvu's matt keller is live where mourners are remembering the life of a 16-year-old cut short. >> reporter: friends and family already arrived. one brought a photoof the girl. the vigil is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. and they are expecting 300 people. she was killed while jet skiing on august 5 in hawaii. police arrested a man and charged him. he was speeding and posing for pictures for his girlfriend before hitting her jet ski from behind. documents show he was hurt and said he was sorry. >> he wasn't sorry for what he did for my child.

the girlfriend was arrested for hindering prosecution. the 21-year-old told police he was sit -- she was sitting down when she was hit. matt keller, ktvu channel 2 news. authorities have issued mandatory evacuation notices to two rural communities as wildfire threatens homes. they are telling people to leave their homes. so far 30,000 acres burned over the last two weeks. 600 structures are threatened. most of them homes. the fire is just 8% contained. they likely won't have the fire contained till the end of the month. dozens of residents remain out of their homes as crews fight a brush fire. it burned 150 acres.

the rocky terrain and hot temperatures are making it difficult to fight the blaze. investigators say the fire was likely started by a cigarette. if you notice dozens of fire trucks today it wasn't because of a real emergency. they are doing a fire drill in a high rise. ktvu's allie rasmus explains what they home to learn from the experience. >> reporter: loaded with oxygen tanks firefighters crawl through a burning buildings. that is the scenario in this fire drill at 275 battery street in san francisco. >> ready for the real thing. >> not using the elevators. >> reporter: the 10th floor is where the pretend fire started. a smoke machine and fire hoses

the san jose jazz summer fest. the bands played on a dozen stages at various locations. this runs till 9:00 p.m. tonight. we have breaking news to tell you about coming into the news room, fire crews rushing to a brush fire east of clear lake close to highways 20 and 53. so far 200 acres have burned. some structures are threatened but we have not heard of evacuations. we will have more on the wildfire coming up tonight on the 10:00 news. efforts to rebuild a san bruno neighborhood leveled by a gas line explosion are scheduled to get back on track this week. on august 2 a contractor damaged a gas line. nearby homes were evacuated and instruction stopped.

the city of san bruno will monitor the project on a daily basis. pg&e put a street light replacement job on hold amid controversy over the design. residents don't like the looks -- or they don't look like the old lamps but pg&e says they are standard replacements for what is considered standard back then. 40-60 have been replaced. authorities in sacramento county had their hands full with crowds cooling off in the american river. they say one boater after another arrived and patrols have been very busy but they say it has been everything. >> people jumping off of rope strings, bridges, people drinking and boating. >> officers arrested one boater for being drunk yesterday and

two others for a brawl as a result of a women's mud wrestling contest. things are back to normal tonight after a landfill fire prompted officials to tell residents to stay indoors. the fire started at 8:30 p.m. last night near highway 237. the smoke prompted a warning for people who live down wind to stay inside and close their windows and doors. it took them 90 minutes to put out the fire. the cause is under investigation. california residents who linin rural areas will see a new fire fighting fee tomorrow. it will cover the cost of preventing and fighting fires in rural areas. the bills run $150 or more. they are being sent by county
