>> reporter: the sergeant on seen here tells me this was a chp pursuit involving a chp officer that ended with one man dying at the scene. you can see that car is still out here. there is skid marks in the roadway here. that car slam into a tree. a '91 honda civic. this is right in the port of oakland. everyone started around 2:00 this morning when a chp officer nearby tried to stop the car for running a stop sign but the car sped off eventually the driver lost control and hit that tree. he died on scene. his passenger survived and being treated at the hospital. because of where this deadly crash took place, oakland police will be handling this investigation. >> because the pursuit terminated on oakland city streets, our fatal accident team will go out and come investigate the matter. that only happens when there is a fatal traffic accident on oakland city streets. our guys will come out and conduct the investigation.

even when another agency is involved. >> reporter: i'm told by a a spokesperson from the chp. two officers were likely inside that car, inside the cruiser that was pursuing the car earlier this morning. both of those officers tried to give medical aid to the people inside the car. obviously the one man was dead on scene. the passenger taken to highland hospital and being treated for complaints of minor pain. the same spokesperson told me this pursuit was very short. lasting only 14 seconds is what they told me. seventh street here will remain closed between 3-5 hours this morning. we are live in oakland alex savidge. we are following developing news from afghanistan this morning. a nato official says another afghan police officer has turned his weapon on international soldiers this time killing two americans. today's shooting is the sixth similar incident in two weeks. officials say the newly

recruited afghan village police officer shot his american allies minutes after they had given him a new weapon as a present. the afghan soldier was then shot and killed. time now 4:32. a march and sit in at president obama's oakland campaign headquarters ended with several people arrested. the group was there in support of former u.s. army intelligence analyst bradley manning that was accused of leaking classified information to wikileaks. ktvu was there when six protestors were led into a police van. >> we've been marching around for months telling people we need to free bradley manning. we've been saying that as loudly as we can and it hasn't

been work song we needed to do something else. >> olson left voluntarily before the arrests were made. the protestors are demanding the president apologize for declaring manning guilty. they want to insure that soldiers are free from pretrial punishment. after that they marched to broadway to wait for them to be released. let's go to the top story. clues are working on a house furriner mclauren park. tara moriarty just arrived on the scene. >> reporter: if you take off to my right here you can see the white house. there is a punch of soot that is coming up out of that window. so you can tell where the flames were. then there is flashlights for fighters on the roof.

we're here off of vienna street and the nearest cross is avlon. you can see quite a few firefighters standing in the street there. initially we are hearing reports that there was a big fire. they came and were able to knock it down but they did send out another crew. they were going through all of the rooms when they discovered a body. we are waiting for the captain to speak with us to give us more information here. this is a very congested sort of area if you are familiar with this district. the streets are narrower and things are close to together. if you pan over to the right, you can see we have fire trucks blocking a lot of streets here. if you do live in this neighborhood, you know this investigation is probably going to take some time. arson is on the scene here. you want to avoid this area here on vienna. it's the 100 block of vienna. we will hopefully discuss the details here with sf fire department and bring you the latest coming up in the next half hour. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2

news. the fate of suspend sheriff mitt romney rest in the board of the hands of supervisors this morning. >> all in favor? >> i. >> opposed. >> i oppose as to the first part but agree as to the second and third. >> in a 4-1 vote the city's ethic commission found ross mirkarimi's domestic violence case constituted misconduct. >> it was an unfamiliar tactic. >> we don't view this as a rejection. we view it as a vindication of charging this court with misconduct. >> they stopped short of saying whether mirkarimi should be removed from office. they will hold another meeting.

now this case has stirred up passions on both sides. groups supporting and opposing mirkarimi held dualing rallies outside city hall. >> i'm not an attorney so i don't really understand all of the legal gyrations but i thought it was a clear message going forward. >> mirkarimi supporters say he has devoted his life to public service and should not be the victim of politics. oakland police hope evidences and witnesses point them to the gunman that killed a man in a fast food drive through. he was driving through the kfc on 73rd and international last night when gunshots pierced his car. he was hit and he crashed into a building across the street where he was pronounced dead. a woman in the passenger seat was also shot. she is expected to survive. san jose police do not have any suspects in the shooting of a teenage boy. that happened about 9:30 last

night near may fair park and interstate 680. the boy was shot at least once. he was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. time now 4:37. a search resume this morning at yosemite national park for a six-year-old boy that is presumed dead. the boy and his ten-year-old brother were swept away in the mri sed river. an off duty firefighter pulled the ten-year-old boy out but it was too late for him. the boys were visiting from los angeles. new this morning five months after morgan hill teenager sierra lamar went missing volunteers will continue their weekly searches with help from a congressman. pleasanton representative jerry macinaner rewill resume the search tomorrow. she was last seen leaving for school on the morning of march 16th. tower rose has been charged

57-degrees in oakland. 56 in san francisco. upper 50s san jose. mid to upper 50s for rose around san jose. we've got monsoonal moisture heading our way. that will bring the slightest possibility of maybe a shower, maybe a thunderstorm over our foothills as well as our mountains. starting later this evening lasting into saturday. ridge of high pressure still to our east. we have the clock wise motion going on here. we've got low pressure off rt coast. this is going to be migrating north and east as we get into the weekend. it's counterclock wise position dragging in that moisture. we will see the cloud cover increasing later today into the afternoon by this evening. and then for the weekend our temperatures will be falling thanks to this low pressure here again. that will be continuing across and eventually over northern california. so for today afternoon highs look like this. 82 degrees for santa rosa. 81 expected for novato.

right now oakland police are on the scene of a deadly crash. we are out there live this morning. it happened about # this -- 2:00 this morning. the chp says the crash is related to a short chase after officers tried to pull over that car. ktvu alex savidge is on the scene. he's gathering information and he's going to have a live update at 5:00. we've also been told that one person died in an early morning house fire in san francisco. take a look at the map. the home is located on vienna street. the fire began at 3:30 this morning. now the street is now blocked off. ktvu tara moriarty is out there on the scene talking with fire investigators and she is going to have an update in a little bit. overnight planes began

spraying pesticide over texas. the u.s. is seeing its biggest spike in west nile cases since 2004 with nearly 700 cases in 32 states. 26 people have died ateleioses 16 of those deaths have been in texas. state officials say weather conditions may be to blame for the increase. >> what we can piece together at least for this year we had a very wet month in june. and with that you had an increased mosquito population because of the breeding grounds. >> this is the first time in more than 45 years that planes have sprayed insecticide over the dallas area. officials say they may have to make a second pass if the first attempt does not kill enough of the mosquitoes. here in california there have been 23 human cases of west nile this year. none has been in the bay area though. people living in the bay are at most risk in august and september. bay area cities are taking steps against the virus.

in contra costa county cities were fogged with pesticides to reduce the number of mosquitoes. park rangers in yosemite is trying to convince the public its popular lodging area is safe. this comes after a man died in the honta virus after staying there. it's contracted through mice droppings and park rangers want visitors to know they are taking precautions to min muse the risk of exposure. a southern california woman traveling with him also got sick but she is recovering. former giant slugger barry bonds' lawyers say his -- they have set a date for oral argument in the case. the hearing is likely later this year with the decision possibly by next year. time now is 4:48. volunteers will be counting oysters in the san francisco bay this morning. part of the watershed prompt

>> good morning, to you. temperatures will be falling as we get into the weekend. it will be a subtle gradual slow drop. but it will be there. giving you a look at the pacific satellite view we've got fog and we've got low clouds all the way inland this morning. marine layer is shallow. that is what is bringing it in. we've got that ridge of high pressure continuing on the east side of us. we have low pressure to the west. the low pressure will be migrating over the state for the weekend. that is going to continue to bring down our afternoon temperatures. it's going to increase the cloud cover because we are stuck between those two elements and that is drawing in monsoonal moisture from the south. we are even looking a the the possibility of maybe a thunderstorm or showers over parts of the hills. giving you a look at the cloud to rain forecast. picking it up this morning. if you're heading to the sierra for the weekend isolated showers here. chances are you are going to see those if you will be out
