weekend in store. weather wise we will cool it down. this morning we are waking up with fog and low clouds. even poor visibility along the coast in some of our inland areas like santa rosa reporting visibility down to a mile. the on shore breeze is with us. strengthening throughout the weekend. increase in clouds also on the way in. monsoonal moisture will pull in from the south. that will bring is a threat for thunderstorms. we'll break that down for you. right now we are doing pretty well on highway 24. we keep watching it to see how the commute is going to go on this very important freeway. between walnut creek and oakland it's a nice drive. also the morning commute on interstate 880 is looking good so far. 6:01 let's go back to the desk. 6:01. we are starting breaking news in san francisco. two people have died in a house fire. we want to take you to a live picture. this is a live picture. look at all of the firefighters out there. this ask outside the home on vienna street. this is near john mclaren park.

now the fire itself started about 3:30 this morning. the two victims senior citizens very well known in this neighborhood. one of the victims bodies has already been brought out. the other is still inside the house. firefighters say it was a very hard fire to put out and when they first arrived there was a live wire that melted from a home next door. once they got inside though, firefighters were facing yet another challenge. >> we are confronted with heavy stockpiling of debris inside the house. >> fire marshal has now investigating to what caused this fire. a lot of the area is blocked off to traffic because the fire crews are still out there. stay tuned we'll bring you a live report from the scene coming up at 6:30. one person is dead after an overnight crash near the port of oakland. alex savidge was the first reporter on the scene at 4:30 this morning and alex you tell us this could have major implications on the truck driver's trying to to get the

port. >> yeah. trucks play to find alter routes to get -- alternate routes this morning. spokesman told me it lasted just 16 seconds and landed just beyond us here. two young men were inside. late teens early 20s. running from officers this morning when they slammed into that palm tree. this is unshent street and mary time. right in the port of oakland. this all started at 2:00 in the morning. chp officers tried to pull over this honda civic for running a stop sign. but the driver of the carp sped off reaching freeway speeds here on the surface streets before eventually losing control and crash into that tree. the driver died on the scene. his passenger survived and now being streeted at highland hospital. investigators don't anomie why the driver refused to stop for the chp officers. >> the driver definitely saw the lights on, the patrol car,

and attempted to evade the officers. see in this particular case the incident could have been avoided if the driver yielded to the lights. >> reporter: chp officers will often patrol as they travel on and off of 980. oakland police will head up this investigation because it did happen on city streets. investigators will try to figure out if the driver in this case may have been impaired in some way or distracted and that may have been the reason that the car lost control this morning. again a short pursuit involving chp officers this morning. one young man killed. the second person the passenger in that car survived and i can tell you the traffic situation here will be -- there could be potential year is for trucks trying to get to the port of oakland. this is seventh street. it will remain shut down. live this morning in oakland alex savidge.

time now 6:04. the fate of ross mirkarimi is now in the hands of board of supervisors. >> all in favor. >> i. >> opposed. >> i oppose as to the first part but agree as to the second and third. >> in a 4-1 vote the ethic's commission said mirkarimi's domestic violence case constituted official misconduct. mirkarimi and wisconsin wife were holding hands during this 9.5 hour hearing. >> i'm very worried if they can do this to me at the level of unlimited resource they have been able to demonstrate and exhibit really a a touch of their own hand that they can do it to anybody else. >> the commission voted to sustain the charges of official misconduct arising from the sheriff's violent actions against his wife. >> now the ethic's commissioners stopped short of recommending that mirkarimi be removed from office.

he will be holding another meeting before they decide on a recommendation. six people were arrested in oakland after a march and sit in at one of president obama's campaign offices. ktvu paul chambers is there with more on what the group is protesting. paul. >> reporter: good morning, pam. this is the second time this month alone this office has been targeted in downtown oakland. there are still boarded up windows from the last time it happened earlier this month. as you can see right there. this time last night six people were arrested. now yesterday about 60 protestors held a rally at city hall and marched to the president's headquarters in support of bradley manning. he is the army soldier accused of leaking cases few -- classified information to wikileaks. >> we have been marching around for months. we say we need to free bradley

manning. we had to do something else to get attention. >> reporter: that was scott olson. he was the veteran injured by occupy proit's in october of last year. he and a few others took part in the sit-in. olson did agree to leave while the rest of the protestors that stayed were arrested. our cameras were the only ones there when protestors were led away in handcuffs. in all about six people were arrested and taken into custody for trespassing. after the arrest they marched down to oakland head quarters and waited for their foe low -- i'm powell chambers. time now 6:07. police in san jose searching for whoever shot a teenage boy. it happened last night about 9:30 in the 600 block of sanders avenue. he was shot at least once. now he was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

investigators are searching for a possible motive in this attack. we are following developing news from afghanistan this morning. u.s. military officials say two u.s. service members have been shot and killed by an afghan police officer. coming up at 6:15, a look at the growing violence as u.s. troops train afghan security forces. new radiation concerns on treasure island might effect plans for a big housing development. the bay citizen reports that radio active contamination at the old treasure island naval station could be more wide spread than previously reported. san francisco plans to build a high-rise community for $20,000 people on the island. mayor ed lee says he still expects to break ground on the project in the next summer. our time now 6:08 the national football league discussing possible stadium options. nfl officials asked for a secret meeting. was held last week with the team as well as city officials. the raiders have been the only coliseum complex team that has

not dismissed a city's proposal that the team build new facilities. the golden state warriors announced plans for a new arena in san francisco and the oakland a's still want to move to san jose. sal is checking in on the east bay now. pretty quiet. the commute is pretty good. at least so far this friday morning. >> sometimes on fridays we do have better than usual traffic. at least to start off with. before any incidents happen. it is getting a little busier here in the last few minutes that we have been checking. there have been no problems along the stretch between vallejo and berkeley. you can see cars are moving pretty well to the bay bridge toll plaza. once you get to the toll plaza no major delays if you're about 6:15 about 10 minutes from now a little less than that, five minutes from now we will really have the metering lights turned on most likely. if the traffic continues to be light, they may not do that. it will make it easier to get on the bridge. we talked about the vallejo traffic on 80 westbound that

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time now is 6:14. a woman's body has been found near stinson beach in marin county. someone spotted a woman on the rocks at red rock beach last night. it was about a half mile south of stinson beach. firefighters tried to resuscitate but she was pronounced dead at the scene. detectives and the coroner's office are trying to figure out how she died. in wisconsin the sikh community had another tragedy. family members were crying after 56-year-old dalbeer was shot and killed wednesday night at his grocery store. this comes days after six people were shot and killed at a massacre at a sikh temple. >> this is very big tragedy we have already and we are not done about that yet. and now we have another one. >> police are still out there looking for the shooter. they say he was trying to rob

the store when he opened fire. the victim was a prominent member of the sikh community in the milwaukee area. he was rushed to the temple -- he rushed to the temple when he heard at the shooting there. two u.s. service members were killed in afghanistan. ktvu scott mcfarland joins us with more on this wave of attacks. >> reporter: afghan security forces are supposed to be working as partners with the u.s. troops in afghanistan but they are increasingly opening fire on u.s. service members there. 31 times this year alone. among those killed in this wave of attacks 29-year-old marine captain matthew of los altos hills. his funeral set for tomorrow morning. there is growing concerns that militants, terror plotters are better infiltrating the afghan forces going under cover to plot and execute the insider

attacks. white house press secretary issued a statement about this new wave of finding. >> on the matter what is called green on blue incidents, there is no question these incidents are deeply concerning and our hearts go out to the family and friends that have lost loved one in those. >> reporter: in the latest incident two service members killed overnight in the western farah province of afghanistan. scott mcfarland. time now 6:16. election 2012 news this morning republican presidential candidate mitt romney is defending himself against critics that say he didn't pay his taxes. >> every year i paid at least 13% and if you add in addition the amount that goes to charity, the number gets well above 20%. >> however senate democratic leader harry reid accuses romney of not paying taxes for a ten year period. spokesperson for reid says they will believe mitt romney once he provides proof. in the meantime mitt romney's

running mate paul ryan has reversed course. now he admits he did request government stimulus money for two energy companies in his home state of wisconsin. now wall ryan was a -- paul ryan was a big critic of the economic stimulus program and denied asking for stimulus money. now he says his office mishandled constituent requests for stimulant funding. tesla plans to hire more workers but not saying exactly when. the electric car maker says it will deliver 5,000 of the model s sedans this year. it will need to expands its work force at the new plant in fremont. >> the long-time goal of testaly with 2,000 people it is to exceed that employment. >> when the plant shut down two years ago it eliminated 4700 jobs. a few of the workers were hired

by tesla and now tesla hopes to bring back even more of them to california's only auto assembly plant. speaking of cars. sal is watching the toll plaza for us. how is it look something >> it's get better. the traffic is moving well. usually by now we have a backup. today we are looking at it and saying all right we're off to a decent start. on fridays things sometimes are lighter. we are watching the bridge as well on the actual bridge it looks good in san francisco. we have been watching the san mateo bridge and that traffic looks good over to the peninsula. the dumbarton bridge looks good as well. we have been looking at the traffic here as we move up there. highway 4 already slow traffic in antioch as you can see where the yellow markers are. the rest of it the traffic here looks good. 6:19 let's go to rosemary.

welcome pack. fire crews in antioch want to know what caused a good will trailer to go up in flames. it was packed with donations. it caught fire out there. look, it was loaded with fully loaded with donations for the upcoming holiday season. it happened at the antioch good will center just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. and two cars belonging to employees they also went up in flames. petaluma will play the next game at the little league world series this sunday.

because this is the first gold medal in judo. it's been nice because they iminvited a lot of the olympians there to ring the bell. it's a friday, august 17th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm pam cook two people have died. happened in an early morning house fire in san francisco. tara moriarty is there at the house where investigators are looking for clues as to how this fire started. tara. >> reporter: we did speak to the assistant fire chief he tells us the cause of the fire is not suspicious. that is a start. if you take a look behind me, you can see the garage and how much debris is spilling out of it. this is what most of the inside of the home looks like. that really posed a tremendous challenge for firefighters. flames broke out sometime before 4:00 this morning at the home on vienna street. by the time crews arrived it was too late. the bodies of two elderly men

were found inside. the first crews discovered on the top floor. they were able to get him out. resuscitation efforts failed. the second one they didn't find until much later. and of course there were the other obstacles. >> heavy stockpiling of debris inside the house. i think a visual in the front will confirm that we have softened the building. that is a term we say opened it for access. you can see we have opened it up and extensive debris in some areas. eight foot or higher. >> reporter: now there was also a downed power line at the house next door that posed a risk to firefighters. 65 total fought flames which they were able to bring under control fairly quickly. arson investigators are on scene. joining me now is joann. she is the fire chief in san francisco. you have done a walk through of the home. what does it look like? >> as you take a look at the garage, the whole house it

pretty much indicate what is the whole house looks like. very difficult to access. i had the benefit of daylight no flame, no heat and i had a really difficult time navigating my way through. very sad we lost two san francisco residents today. my understanding they are two elderly males that lived together. i'm grateful there was no further injury to the crews that came out. they did a phenomenal job trying to effect rescue and suppressing the fire so it did not extend to the next door neighbors house. they did a great job. very, very difficult. many of these situations are very difficult. >> thank you we appreciate it. and as you mentioned you can see the homes are very close together. they are attached. so that definitely makes firefighters assess the situation as soon as they come on scene and try to make the necessary precautions to prevent it from spreading. president obama's oakland campaign headquarters once

again the target of protestors. this time six people were arrested. ktvu paul chambers joins us now from oakland with the exclusive video of those arrests. paul. >> reporter: interesting note you said once again. last time it happened was earlier this month. you can see the windows are still boarded up from that occurrence. this time they took over the building and were arrested. now on this video you will only see on 2 you can see the protestors being led away in handcuffs. in all six people were arrested for holding a sit in. this all happened after 60 protestors held a rally at city hall and marched to headquarters in support of bradley manning. he's the former u.s. army soldier accused of leaking classified information to wikileaks. once at the headquarters four other activists held the sit in. scott olson that was injured in october of last year did agree to leave while the rest of the

protestors were stayed and arrested. olson said he is not happy with the president's politics. >> for obama to apologize for declaring bradley manning guilty. >> after the arrest several protestors marched down to oakland headquarters and waited for their fellow protestors with released. the headquarters back out here live doesn't open until 10:00 this morning. hopefully we can get some kind of comment from someone inside. and hopefully we can bring it up for you during mornings on 2. live in oakland i'm paul chambers. time now 6:35. a search resumes at yosemite national park for a six-year- old boy now presumed to be dead. the six-year-old and his ten- year-old brother they were swept away in the merced river yesterday. off duty firefighter pulled the ten-year-old out but it was too late for him.

park rangers say the boys were on a family hike when they stopped to cool off right near the mist trail foot bridge. >> everybody rest there is and takes pictures of the falls and it's a wonderful place to have a rest. so you just have to watch your children. it's just very sad. >> the children were visiting fromst lankless. los angeles. it may seem harmless to stick in your feet but the river is very dangerous. meantime a popular lodging area could be linked to a rare rodent born disease add that has killed a bay area tourist. coming up at 6:45 we'll let you know what park rangers are doing out there to keep you safe. oakland police open evidence and witnesses point them to the gunman that killed a man in fast food drive through. the victim was in his car at the kfc on 63rd and international last night when gunshots pierced his car. he was hit and crashed into a building across the street where he was pronounced dead.

a woman in the passengers seat was also shot but she is expected to survive. 6:36. police in redwood city has captured a serial robbery suspect after a standoff that lasted almost ten years. the ktvu had continuing coverage of the man hunt and the standoff leading up to that arrest. cavalier row was one of hour five armed robberies. yava rebel noised cabler a and watched as he surrendered. >> you know just trying to see who came out because i know them. it's shocking because i knew them. >> residents say he lived in this garage here. he made that hole in the wall and climbed into the apartment next door during the standoff. we are also getting new numbers out about the rise of

burglaries happening in palo alto this year. palo alto online reports 81 homes were broken into in the first four months of this year. police records show that is twice as many burglaries in the last two years. thieves have been stealing cash, electronics and jewelry. they are getting in through unlocked windows and doors more than half the time. state investigators say a show reason fire truck did not ignite last weeks refinery fire. cal osha tells the chronicle they were equipped with an emergency shut off device that could detect hydrocarbons. workers were repairing a leak on a pipe when it released a huge vapor cloud. investigators say they may never know what ignited that vapor cloud. let's check many with sal. i'm not complaining opinion it's feeling like friday light. >> it is. it's getting busy in san francisco. but on the freeways right now traffic is moving well just a

lot of small things going on in san francisco. if you look at east shore freeway a lot of people are driving through. you are right. it has been friday light up to this point. when you get to the toll plaza you will not see the usual backup. you are getting to see a little backing up in the middle lanes. so it's not completely free and clear. but it is pretty good considering what we normally have. as we look at contra costa county 680 southbound at 24 traffic looks good. northbound we've had a bunch of vehicles with flat tires in this area. tow trucks are on the way. if you get a flat try to pull as far off to the right as you can. cooler weather in store for your weekend. it will be a subtle cool down but it will be there. a live look outside our doors. we've got a little bit of low cloud fog cover out there this morning. even mist and drizzle for the coast. poor visibility rereported in -- reported in some of our

in a 4-1 vote the ethic's commission found him guilty of misconduct stemming from his domestic violence case. while that is nonbinding it still means something. the board of supervisors will ultimately decide if mirkarimi should keep his job. san jose police investigating the shooting of a teenage boy. it happened last night about 9:30 in the 600 block of sanders avenue. he was shot at least once and then rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. two american soldiers in afghanistan are dead. they were shot this morning by a newly recruited afghan village policeman. the man opened fire just minutes after the american soldiers handed him his official weapon during an inauguration ceremony. this is the sixth similar attack in afghanistan in the last two weeks. police investigation into a fatal overnight crash is blocking some streets near the

port of oakland. alex savidge was first on the scene at 4:30 this morning and alex has more on the chase that led up to the crash. >> reporter: two young men in their it will teens or early 20s were inside a car run running from chp officers this morning when the deadly accident happened and ended right here beyond us where you can see an investigation still taking place this morning. the driver driver was killed when it slam into the palm tree. the coroner removed that body about 15-20 minutes ago. the accident happened on seventh street in maritime. chp officers tried pulling over the honda civic for running a stop sign but the driver sped off refused to stop reaching freeway speed before losing control and crash into the tree. the driver died on scene. his passenger is being treated at highland hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. a chp spokesman tells me this was a short pursuit that lasted
