on westbound interstate 80. no major problems. let's go back to the desk. >> overnight news. a firefighter was hurt battling a house fire. joins us how from the scene allie rasmus. >> reporter: the fire started just before 2:00. there are fire trucks out here. firefighters are going inside the home making sure all the hot spots are out. the home is directly across from where you see those trucks parked. this is the intersection of sun kissed and michigan. let's show you the video of what the flames looked like at 2:00 a.m. this morning. the flames towered above nearby homed. this is a densely packed neighborhood. the flames were 15 to 20 feet in the air. the homes were empty so the investigators aren't sure how this fire started. that's

something fire investigators will have to focus when they try to determine the cause. the fire lieutenant says what was unusual is there were appliances in the home but no furniture. nothing that could burn easily and make the fire look like this under normal circumstances. that's part of the reason firefighters think this could be suspicious. >> the house was not currently occupied and the amount of fire does make it suspicious. >> reporter: one firefighter was hurt. he dislocated his shoulder. he should recover and be okay. the neighbors in this area are very lucky this fire did not spread. we take you back out here live. the home where this happened is on the other side of the trees and bushes. a lot of vegetation in this area. firefighters when they got here, they went into defensive mode.

put up a water curtain. doused the entire area around the fire to make sure the flames did not spread. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the ch p is investigating after an ambulance hit and killed a person. 11:30 last night on highway 4 near a street. we're told the person got out of the car and trying to run across the highway when he was hit by an ambulance. the emergency crews stopped and tried to render aid but the person died at the scene. overnight in san jose, one person was rescued. that happened about 12:15 this morning. firefighters had to use heavy duty equipment to free the passenger in the car. no word on that victim's condition or what led up to the crash. san jose police are investigating several shootings after a violent weekend.

one man was shot and injured about 9:00 last night on east san antonio street. the suggestion expect walked up -- suspect walked up to the victim and started shooting. >> they fired rounds at witnesses. fortunately they were not injured. >> the victim was taken to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. they only have a vague skipgs of the sus -- description of the suspect. 28th homicide of the year and 4th in 7 days. some people say the violence has them worried. >> i'm scared but what can you do? i don't want to move. i'm too old to move. >> police say they haven't made any arrests in connection with either of the shootings. 4:33 is the time.

an out of control wildfire is threatening 3,000 homes in shasta and tahama. 7 homes have already been destroyed and the fire has gloen to 12,000 ache -- grown to 12,000 acres. more than 1,000 firefighters are battling that fire. so far containment is only about 5%. steep rugged terrain is an issue. >> a lot of roads we're using to get back into the area. relying on aircraft and building new line to be able to get our firefighters down in there. >> an evacuation center has been opened up in redding. we have more coverage of the ponderosa fire online including a slide show.
