a firefighter is injured after battling an overnight house fire. why investigators are confused about how this fire may have started. and a pedestrian is killed on an east bay freeway. why this crash was so unusual. >> reporter: and we'll visit the refinery fire investigation. they say it's not the crime it's the coverup. >> the alleged coverup in the melky cabrera case. "mornings on 2" starts right now. blood pressure. good morning to you. i'm dave clark. >> i'm claudine wong. a firefighter was taken to the hospital after battling a house fire in the oakland hills. large flames tore through the home around 1:30 this morning.

allie rasmus joins us from the scene with the reason the firefighters returned to this scene in the last hour. >> reporter: the flames completely destroyed. this two-story single-family home in the oakland hills. the flames were out by 3:00 a.m. this horning. but for the rest of the morning, there was still smoke coming from that gaping hole you see in the roof of the building. so by 6:00, firefighters came. they went inside the smoldering building. there's no more smoke out here. this is what it looked like at its worse. 15, 20 feet in the area. investigators are not sure how this fire started. no one was living here at the time. the house had no furniture

inside. but firefighters say they just focused from screaming the flames spreading to nearby homes. >> have to attack the fire from the left side and then advance both signs to the house and then get the fire under control. >> reporter: now, one firefighter was injured while bat 8ing this fire. according to one of the lieutenant -- battling this fire. according to one of the lieutenants, that firefighter dislocated his shoulder after the burning floor collapsed. he was taken to hot -- taken to the hospital. right now, you can see some of the neighbors have started to get up and check out soft. of the damage out here. so firefighters will be using some of those pictures to determine what may have sparked this fire in the first place. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the chp is investigating after an ambulance hit and killed a person on the highway in antioch. it happened around 11:0 on highway 4 near a street. we're told the fern got out of

the car and was trying to across the highway. >> the ambulance driver stopped and attempted to render first aid to the subject but he succumbed to his injuries. >> the east bay lanes were closed while the accident was investigated. time now, 7:03. san jose police busy investigating several shootings. the latest one happened at 9:00 on east san antonio street. police say the gunman -- police say the -- police say the gunman was shot and injured. >> we got here quickly. we just didn't have the officers we normally have. we have fewer officers. >> now, the victim was rushed to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. coming up at 7:0, lorraine blanco will have a -- coming up

at 7:30, lorraine blanco will have more. there was a fight with a restaurant manager at a denny's. police say james freeman was in the hospital for about an hour. well, when the manager told him to leave, he allegedly tooked him with a baseball bat. police say he later pulled out a knife. police used a taser on fromman before they arrested him taking him away in handcuffs. well, the chairman is expected to tour the chevron refinery. tara moriarty has more. tara? >> reporter: well, the chairman will be visiting the side today. we don't know exactly how close we'll be able to get to that pipe since the area is still considered hazardous. the structural integrity is safe. now on august 6th, obviously, there is a fire at the chevron refinery. it sent a plume of toxic

chemicals sickening tons of people. initially they said the levels of chemicals in the area was safe. now they say it's not geared to disasters, but for everyday use. most toxins blew past the monitors so they could never get accurate readings and so we may never know the accurate number that went through. 11,000 people went to the e.r. complaining of breathing problems. now, the bay area quality management district maintains five monitors. now there is a push for more monitoring. other agencies are all working in conjunction to figure out what went wrong and how a similar disaster can be avoided in the future. live in richmond, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning we're also

learning the chiefer rob refinery had the -- chevron refinery had the second best safety record. it's been fined nine times. the refinery had 15 violations, 11 complaints and six accidents. not counting the fire. despite the record -- 7:07. a skinny-dipping scandal in the holy land. a republican lawmaker reportedly apologizing after a night of partying in israel last summer. coming up at 7:14, we'll get a live report with more investigation into a late-night swim and some other lawmakers reportedly involved. well, a prominent bay area activist who played a major role in the black panther party was reportedly an fbi agent.
