northbound 101, in fact this is not the right map, and we do have a problem in novato, this is a crash with alex savage just before 4:00 this morning. >> reporter: this was a pickup truck which lost control and veered off the highway. it went off the highway and slammed into the power pole where pg&e are investigating, it is resting on the power lines above. the man was killed and a short time ago, within the last half hour, they watched him remove the body, it was sheered off at the base. a chevrolet pickup truck which was going northbound on 101

just north of the exit, chp says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash but they do believe the driver may have been drowsy. >> we didn't see any skid marks but it appears as though he fell asleep. daylight will show a better view of the roadway and as of now that is what it appears to be. >> power to this line was not affected by the accident. that could take some time, northbound 101, the repair work is taking place off the shoulder of the roadway. chp was not able to identify the driver the person who was killed in the crash this morning but i did ask chp if this man was wearing a seat belt, she told me he was.

alex savage, ktvu channel 2 morning news. and they are investigating the latest homicide in the city in just the past eight days. joining us with more on this continuing violence, tara? >> this deadly shooting just happened. now the shots rang out near pokeco way. the shooter took off in a car. police say the shooting does appear to be phillip related. police are trying to figure out if the shoot chargings are connected. he is expected to survive. yesterday's shooting death brings the number of homicides

. an investigation is underway after two people died when a train handling coal derailed in baltimore maryland. a news crew over the scene this morning, 21 of the trains 80 cars flipped over midnight and also crushed some vehicles in a parking lot. at this point we don't know if two people died but cranes have been brought into lift the crane so that emergency crews can search for more possible victims but again, this is outside near baltimore derailment, carrying cole since we get more information we will bring it to you.

san francisco marina, this is all ahead of the world cup series tomorrow. the cata morans are out there and the semifinals are saturday and the big race itself sunday. we have two accidents causing problems on highway 101. the scene of the fatal crash, we first told you about it 4:30 this morning and it is causing problems. >> it could have been caused by rubber nexters, that first crash, a man was killed when his pickup truck lost control and veered off the highway, that is being towed away and being slammed into that power pole and in the meantime, it may have caused a separate crash, the original accident was in the northbound lane, that second crash, there were

some injuries in talking with chp and traffic has been slow in that area. now when this truck hit the power pole and sheered it off, it was only held up and pg&e crews are working to stabilize it. he died from his injuries and this was a chevrolet pickup truck and he was going northbound 101 north of the exit when the truck left the highway, chp sergeant tells me it does not look like alcohol was a factor and it looks like the driver may have dosed off. >> we didn't see any skid marks or anything but it appears as though he fell asleep and that has not been confirmed yet. >> that power line itself was not affected in this area, but crews will be, woulding to replace that power pole that could take some time.
