and discovery will inspire me through my lifetime." tropical storm isaac has prompted the gop to change the schedule of the upcoming convention. it will recess until tuesday afternoon when the storm is expected to pass. isaac made landfall in haiti then cuba today. at least one person died in the storm. it's now headed toward the florida keys where people scrambled to board up windows and buy water and food. >> everyone in the florida keys must be watching the storm closely. anyone of the storm remain in flux. complete your preparations now. >> it is predicted that isaac could turn into a hurricane unless it hits florida with winds at 80 miles an hour. here is the latest from the hurricane center with tropical

storm isaac. winds 60 miles an hour, 340 miles to the east southeast of key west florida. the track in the short-term, around a category 1 hurricane near key west. and strengthling, becoming -- strengthening becoming a category 1 hurricane into monday and tuesday. it could be changing. the forecast models, all these lines represent one forecast model. you'll notice there's a little bit of a track to the west that could include parts of louisiana and alabama. this is not a for-sure forecast. it could possibly be changing. in the short-term, as far as southwest florida, this is what they can expect. rainfall expectations, 8-12 inches. we'll continue to keep an eye on

isaac and our local forecast coming up. firefighters are gaining ground against a major wildfire in northern california. the pend rosa fire is 74% -- ponderosa fire is 74% contained. 64 homes have been destroyed. cal fire says crews have not seen the fire grow past containment lines since yesterday. a woman is in the hospital and her four children are lucky to not be injured by her brazen shooting. she wasn't the only woman. >> reporter: a man who was about to give her a ride, and her kids were already in the car. the shooter picked a time and a place where many other bystanders could have been hurt. consciences say there were children -- witnesses say there were children playing outside

these apartments in vallejo when a man wearing all black in a ski mask walked up and started shooting. >> it was loud enough to where everybody in this area came outside. >> reporter: this woman told us a neighbor and her four children were about to get a ride to the mall from a friend. >> he was in the process of hopping in the car. >> reporter: witnesses say the driver who had also been hit took off with the kids in the car and drove himself to kaiser hospital. >> we saw lots of kids playing out there, and there was probably 100 people lining the streets talking to us >> reporter: the shooter got away on foot. investigators are not ready to talk about motive. neighbors insist the mother and her children were in the wrong place at the wrong time >> she was asking somebody for a ride! whoever it was came up here and apparently hit that car. they had to know the

person >> you think they wanted to shoot the man in that car? >> they did. >> reporter: in the last hour, friends of the woman told me she is still recovering in north bay medical center in fairfield. police are investigating two separate shootings in oakland that sent children to the hospital. a 12-year-old girl was wounded when a gunman opened fire had her home early this morning. at least a half dozen bullets pierced the windows. no arrests have been made. that girl is expected to survive. a 7-year-old boy was grazed in the neck in a shooting that killed a 46-year-old man. authorities identified the man killed as otis lee key. that shooting happened at about 8:00 last night on sycamore street. the boy is in stable condition.
