they imposed the lock down. they arrested one suspect and the second suspect at 2:30 p.m. firefighters took an hour to put out a fire this afternoon. flames broke out at 2:30 p.m. in a building on jersey street in noe valley. all the residents got out safely. the flames spread but firefighters put out the fire in 40 minutes. no one was hurt and investigators are trying to find out what caused the fire. a broken gas line forced the evacuation of several homes in san francisco. a contractor digging on 26th avenue ruptured that line after 8:00 a.m. this morning. pg&e shut off gas they while repaired the line. 30 customers were without gas

ring. >> reporter: the first day of class turned scary after a officer involved shooting. police say it began with a cell phone robbery at gun point in the ocean view district. the victim used an app that enabled police to track the phone to two suspects in this noe valley neighborhood. she drew her gun after police say he reached towards his clothe. the suspect got away after the officer twisted her angle. by pinging the phone police tracked down two men. one man was found in a car's trunk along with the victim's cell phone and credit cards. >> the fact that more than one cell phone was found would indicate they were -- that was their business. stealing cell phones. >> reporter: they recovered two

today was the first day of class for schools in oakland. before the break the district was hit by budget cuts and protests but officials say today's return to the classroom went well with 37,000 students. budget cuts forced them to close 5 schools last june with one converting to a charter school. today a new school also opened. a 19-year-old is facing charges today. authorities arrested him last friday after serving a search warrant. they found evidence he robbed a man he met on a marijuana selling website. the california slaughterhouse at the center of a animalculety investigation is -- animal cruelty investigation is back open with approval.
