"mornings on 2" begins right now. well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. i'm tori campbell -- >> i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, august 28th. >> reporter: antioch police were chasing a man who had a small child. what a sergeant tells us, was a toddler in the car with him as police were pursuing him. the chase ended with a deadly shooting and ended with a home up the block here. this neighborhood is near ponta

loma boulevard and as you see, you can see evidence markers. antioch police shot and killed a man as he was up on the roof of a house in this area, pointing a gun at officers. everything began around 11:00 last night with a domestic violence call to another house nearby in this neighborhood. that's when the armed man ran from officers arrived at the scene and led police on the pursuit e had the child in the car with him. he eventually bailed out of the car from here, left the child and began run with police in pursuit. eventually officers used the chp to locate the man on top of someone's roof and certainly it was a frightening time for the individual living in that house. >> it was like gunshots, sounded like a clapping, like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. >> reporter: at this point, antioch police are not giving as you whole lot of information by the man killed overnight.

they've not given us any background on the man, what he may have wanted. but again, everything began with some sort of a domestic violence call. whenever officers took got there, the man took off with a weapon and a young child in the car. the toddler has been checked out at a hospital and is doing fine this morning. this investigation expected to last for several more hours this morning. live in antioch, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. happening now, tropical storm isaac is expected to- hurricane katrina as it moves over the -- to become hurricane katrina as it moves to the louisiana. it is about 100 miles offshore and could make landfall as a category 1 hurricane late tonight or tomorrow. heavy winds are batter, the coast. the national hurricane center says significant storm surge is

connected and the storm could dump up to 14 inches of rain. officials say the levee system around new orleans should be able to withstood isaac after the upgrades after katrina. yesterday, president obama declared a state of emergency for louisiana. we're expecting to hear from the president in about ten minutes. when that starts, we'll go there and we'll go to gulf port, mississippi. and oil refineries this gulf are shutting down because of isaac and that means that prices here for you will probably go up, just in time for the labor day weekend. tara moriarty is here with more. >> reporter: if you are planning to go away forked weekend, hope flip you are not driving far. we're here at a gas station on market street. it's $4.39 for a gal be of

regular unleaded. $4.69 for supreme court. it could go higher -- for supreme. it could go higher. oil refineries are bracing for the impact. they produce nearly half of the nation's oil supplies. a refinery explosion in venezuela also taking a toll and the chevron refinery in richmond has not helped. soap in the bay area we've really had a triple wammy. in california, the average price of gas is $4.13. experts say if gas jumps a dollar a gallon for three months it do really hurt the economy. gas prices spiked 50%. we just spoke to one gentleman

filling up gas. he says he's paying between $40, $50 a week to full up his tank and expects to be paying close to $70 by the weekend. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara you -- tara. you can find the gas prices at ktvu.com. we're still following developing news from calistoga, that's where a fire forced guests to evacuate at an inn a knew hours ago. the fire broke out at about 3:15 at the calistoga inn. we are told the fire started in an autopsy your dab, dash in an -- we're told the fire started in an upstairs area. we're told no one was hurt. the fire crews are also trying to figure out how an important fire in walnut creek started. now, that fire started about 5:30 this morning on lincoln avenue near carmel drive.

-- is not scheduled to make landfall until later today. at my direction, fema has been on the ground for over a week, working on state and local officials in areas that could be affected, from puerto rico, the u.s. virgin islands and florida, more recently, louisiana, alabama and mississippi. yesterday, i approved a declaration for the state of louisiana so they can get the help that they need right away, particularly around some of the evacuations that are taking place. right now we're already -- we already have response teams ready to help communities in the expected pant of the storm. as we prepare for -- expectant part of the storm. as we prepare for isaac to hit, i want to encourage all residents to listen to your officials and follow their directions, including if they tell you, to evacuate. we're dealing with a big storm. and there could be significant flooding and other damaging

affiliation from republican to democrat. he later lost the prime. just a couple of weeks before he denied, neil armstrong sent an 11 -- sent an e-mail to an is --p e-mail to an 11 -- sent an e-mail to an 11-year-old. he was an orphan. i said his dream was to meet -- he said his dream was to meet neil armstrong. and neil armstrong wrote back. as you know neil armstrong died on saturday at the age of 82. 7:19. new this morning, a maryland teen has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after police say he opened fire on another classmate. the attack happened yesterday

near baltimore maryland on the first day of school. the student shot was in critical condition. but the injuries could have been worse if a guidance counselor and teacher had not interviewed. witnesses say they prevent -- pinned the gunman against a vending machine to prevent anyone from being shot. six san jose schools were locked down while police searched for two armed robbery suspects. it start -- it started at 1:15 yesterday. investigators say the suspects ran toward the school and that's when police called for the lockdown. san jose police arrested one suspect. a short time later, still in the area. the second suspect was found an hour later. 7:20. san francisco fire department investigating a fi at two buildings. it started just after 2:30 at jersey and noe streets. the flames spread to a second

crowded, dave? >> by told that you 280 was not that bad -- we told you that 280s with not that bad. it's not awful but it is going to be slow as you drive through. also the morning commute, looks pretty good if you are driving on the approach to 580 but when you get to the maze you will see some slow traffic. again, it's pretty typical once you make it onto the bridge, it looks good. and then 0, the whole stretch from hey -- and then the 880, the whole stretch is clear. let's go to steve. the coast is clear, that's not something that we have said lately. temperatures warmed up, especially inland. we start off with the upper 40s, 50s to near 60. there's very warm air aloft.

7:29. president obama is urging gulf coast residents to take warnings seriously as tropical storm isaac moves closer ashore. he made the remarks just a short time ago from the white house just before doe barting on a three -- depart on a three- state trip. isaac is expected to make landfall later tonight. our reporter is live in mississippi to let us know how people there are prepared to ride out the storm. good morning, george. >> reporter: it seems we're in between rainbands here. we just had sunlight a minute ago. it's starting to get darker. you can see. surf chumping up. we're talking again just a day shy of the anniversary of the hurricane -- surf churning you.

people being careless and not paying attention. >> reporter: the storm surge from katrina rose as high as the second story. >> i think -- they are gonna hunker down and their do rest to be ready for us. >> reporter: the hotel's engineer doesn't expect will be nearly as destructive but like many residents along the gulf, he's praising for the worse and -- bracing for the worse and hoping for the best. a moment ago, you mentioned the president's warning. you find some people, though, here in gulfport and along the gulf coast who have decided to wait it out. son people on the beach, he just want to see the storm come in. i did talk to people who decided no leave town. they don't want to talk any chances. many of these people who went through the experience of hurricane katrina, they are just everyone looing -- they

there -- exactly what was in there. well, residents in one san jose neighborhood are keeping their animals indoors because coyotes reportedly killed three pets. neighbors say three dead cats have been found in three weeks. wildlife officials say this appears to be the work of three coyotes. >> this is harming domestic animals and who knows what they are gonna wait for a toddler to be armed -- harmed. >> wildlife officials recommend bring pet food inside, pick up any fruit that's fallen from trees. they also say coyotes cannot be trapped or relocated unless they are sick, injured or orphaned. the state legislature has given the green red to a red light camera bill. the bill approved by the legislature would require camera locations be selected
