temporary legal status in the u.s. now several hundred people are expected to come to catholic charities for this workshop on obama's deferred action program. it stops deportation of undocumented immigrants who are brought to the u.s. as children. to qualify for the program, immigrants have to prove they came before they were 16, are 30 or younger or in school graduated or served in the military. now, many people here in line say that it is very important to -- they have strong opinions on why this plan is needed. i want to talk to one of the people in line here that i just met jesus gomez. you said you are from mountainview. tell me why you are here. >> i was brought here when i was 3 without knowing it and i been struggling, but i have graduated from junior high school and graduated from high school and right now i am enrolled at job trading place

double homicide all night. police say neighbors reported hearing gunshots after 9:15 last night. when officers arrived they found a body of a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman inside the home. a family member tells us 2 1/2- year-old boy was in the home but was not hurt. the same family member says the female victim was pregnant. ktvu alex savage has been following the story and will have live update at 7:30. there have been complaints about the civil lawsuits over the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. a number of victims are suing over the blast that happened two years ago this sunday. but according to the bay area news group, some of the victims say they are constantly pressured by a judge to settle out of court. of the 415 plaintiffs about 15% have settled so far. and more expected to do so before the case goes to trial in january.

last night. alex savidge has been talk to the victim's relatives and has more on what was found inside the home. >> reporter: a sergeant on scene tells me the motive for the double murder is unclear this morning. the bodies of that man and woman are still inside the house where they were found shot to death last night. a relative of one of the victims tells me a 2-year-old son a 2-year-old child of one of the victims was here at the time. but was not hurt. police are not confirming the information about the child this morning. the grandmother of one of the victims who i spoke with tells me the woman who was killed last night was several months pregnant. this started around 9 last night when neighbors reported gunfire coming from the house oning attarton street. police -- atherton street they are not identifying the victims but saying it was a 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman. they don't believe it was a random crime. investigators are trying to figure out why they were targeted. >> that is what we are trying

arrested for sexual battery at a campus dorm. the daily cal reports it happened august 30th at putnam hall. police say an intoxicated 18- year-old man grabbed a woman against her will. he also allegedly pinned a second woman against a wall and kissed her and groped her. the man was moved to a different dorm while police investigate. a gas station robbery caught on tape in colfax and police say a man and woman got three teens to help them rob the gas station. they stormed in with guns before they left they threw the empty cash register at the clerk's head. five people from sacramento have been arrested. police say the robbery could be connected to a string of robberies across the state. there will not be any criminal charges filed against a property management company accused of laundering political contributions to san francisco mayor ed lee. archway property services was accused of sending e-mails to several employees and

well, this morning, cadaver dogs are joining a search for a 20-year-old lafayette man missing along the sacramento river. his name is bret olson and is is a student at cal-poly. last seen sunday at a spot called beer can beach during a weekend float down the river a5,000 dollar reward is -- being offered for his safe returned. police are again asking for your help they are searching for a girl who vanished two weeks ago. 16-year-old larissa huntsman was seen walking away from the high school campus on august 24th. investigators say her mother has been uncooperative and her parents don't have custody of her. detectives are looking at the possibility a relative or some other adult may be somehow involved. 7:46. new information this morning surrounding the problems with the oakland police radio system. during the past year, radios have failed on several occasions with one of the most

notable blackouts happening during president obama's visits in july. according to a letter from at&t, an independent company was hired to test the 16 cell sites in question and found the towers did not cause interference. only one tower was not operating within fcc guidelines. that tower is in hayward which at&t says is too far away to cause any blackouts for oakland police. and police are still searching for the suspect who shot and killed a man in a bay point neighborhood yesterday afternoon. the man died just before 2 p.m. near inlet drive and marina road. the sheriff's office issued a shelter in place advisory along the water front and three nearby schools were on lockdown during the search. the advisory was lifted shortly after 5 p.m. but deputies were unable to fine the gunman. >> time 7:47. today the federal communication commission is expected to grant the wishes of silicon valley heavy weights like google and

it's 8:23. and in light of the death of chp officer and organ donor kenyon youngstrom we spoke with a oakland family about their experience with organ donation. john and tamara hege lost their police officer son when he was shot and killed during a traffic stop. he was on life support and his parents learned he was an organ donor. they have yet to meet the recipient of the son's heart they heard it was a perfect fit and john would be pleased. >> the people that were close to john just felt like they were meeting you know sort of the continuation which i thought was really great.

>> the heges are comforted in remembering how friends and relatives at the memorial signed up for donors after that day. time is 8:24. there's a maryland state trooper recovering after being almost killed when he was hit by a big rig truck during a traffic stop. that was caught on camera and happened in june. a truck driver slammed into the state trooper david avila and he was able to make it to a railing before he collapsed. he said since the accident, he's undergone physical therapy for injuries on the shoulder and back and legs. he also has problems keeping his balance. and light hurts his eyes. >> i look at it, and it doesn't seem like the light is at the end of the tunnel but i am able to walk. doing a lot of physical therapy to try to get back. >> his doctors say that he is lucky to be alive as you can imagine. they are not sure when he will be able to go back to work.

our time is 8:25. if you are on the road right now, tara says there's another accident in the east bay. what happened. >> reporter: well, we have a pair of accidents in oakland. the first one off 580 west at golf links road. looking at the maps you can see how bad the backup is as a result of the left lane being blocked there. and then further north, on 580 eastbound at keller avenue, another accident has two lanes blocked. and 880 near the oakland coliseum traffic extremely slow going on the right-hand side there northbound. we have a fender bender further up the road from this point. just be aware of that. also, in san mateo let's look it's very, very slow going westbound making are way towards foster city. we had a stalled vehicle earlier and it just never quite recovered the commute here. so give yourself extra time the entire span block there. 826 let's go over to steve. >> thank you happy friday. mostly sunny and a little fog towards san she -- san jose.

talked to the police and the victim's families. what do you know now? >> reporter: well, vallejo police do not believe this was a random crime. but investigators still don't know exactly why this man and woman weretargeted. they were shot to death-side their house where they -- inside their house where they live. their bodies are still inside. they were shot last night. it was about 9:00 when the shooting was reported to police. a relative is telling me this morning that the victims 2-year- old son was here at the time. but was not hurt during the shooting. police are not confirming that information to us this morning. but the grandmother of one of the victims tells me the woman who was killed was several months pregnant. neighbors reported gunfire coming from the house on atherton street after 9 last night. police are not identifying the victims involved in this case only saying they were a 31-year- old man and a 28-year-old woman and friend are devastated. >> i love them to death. my kids loved him. she was a good person as far as

in the southwestern part of china. the latest numbers from the state run news agency says at least 64 people are dead more than 715 are hurt and more than 20,000 homes have been damaged. the magnitude of the quake ranges between 4.8 and 5.6. the man we talked about him yesterday originally suspected of bringing liquid explosives on the plane and then was cleared of it has been arrested. police arrested that man in dallas yesterday on unrelated outstanding warrants. you can see him being taken off the plane there. he was on the dallas bound plane in philadelphia. u.s. airways plane and a caller reported there was a passenger that had liquid explosives. police later determined that man was the victim of a hoax. they believe his ex- girlfriend's current boyfriend made the call. the boyfriend is now facing federal charges. 8:35a concord teen charged in a fatal crash back in april is due in court in few hours.

the 17-year-old is facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter and the pretrial hearing will be in juvenile court. police say the teen was driving on tree boulvard when the car hit a man and his daughter riding their bikes on the sidewalk. the teenage has pled not guilty. a u.c. berkely student has been arrested for sexual battery at a campus dorm. it happened august 30th at putnam hall. police say an intoxicated 18- year-old man grabbed a woman against her will. he also allegedly pinned a second woman against a wall and kissed her and groped her. the man was moved to a different dorm while police investigate. a gas station robbery caught on tape. it happened in colfax and police say a woman and a man got three teens to help them rob the gas station. they stormed in with guns before they left and they threw the empty cash register at the clerk's head. five people from sacramento

have been arrested. police say this robbery could be connected to a string of robberies across the state. well, there will not be any criminal charges filed against a property management company that is accused of laundering political contributions to san francisco mayor ed lee. the company archway property of it is accused of sending e- mails to employees and associates telling them to make $500 contributions to the campaign. reportedly they were told they would be reimbursed which is illegal of the california -- under california law. san francisco district attorney says it's just not enough evidence to move ahead with that case. california regulators have not conducted the full intensive workplace safety inspections of california's oil refineries, including chevron's richmond plant where the fire broke out on august 6th. this is according to the san francisco chronicle which shows that recent inspecs of the chevron plant but california regulators averages 50 man-

allegedly taken by their father in a boat that was stolen from alameda. claudine wong joins us live from south san francisco where you talk to the children's mother. claudine. >> reporter: i did. and i also just got off the phone with south san francisco police. they tell me there's going to be a briefing at 9:15. i asked if there are new developments all they would tell me is there has been a sighting off the coast and they wouldn't go into details. so we do expect to get more information very, very soon. in the meantime, we have learned a lot more about the abduction. we are in the south san francisco neighborhood where the children live with their mother. now the mother tells us on tuesday, the 43-year-old father christopher maffei parked a rental car and walked up the street and this is the fence that goes to the backyard got over the fence and convinced the 3-year-old to open the back door and then he took off with them. jennifer hipon says her 70-year- old mother was watching the children and sustained the injuries while trying to keep maffei from taking them but says the kids were not crying

staying at a nearby hotel. big concern for firefighters today, those flames could get closer just going over a ridge and get closer to houses. firefighters still making progress on a wild fire in the angeles national forest. just outside los angeles. it is burned almost 4200 acres and it's 69% contained. the fire started sunday afternoon forcing the evacuation of some homes as well as recreational areas. four people including two of the firefighters have been injured. it is coming up at 8:49 a coast guard cutter based out of alameda helped rescue two injured fishermen off the coast of mexico. on tuesday, the cutter morganthal received a call from a deep sea tuna fishing vessel southwest of acapulco. on board was man suffering from abdominal pain and a second man with lower back and leg pain after a fishing accident. the two men were taken from the
