interstate 880. let's go back to pam. overnight shots rang out in a quiet neighborhood in oakland and now one man is in the hospital. alex savidge is right near lake merit with more on what police found at the scene that led them to a suspect. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. there was a gun recovered here at the crime scene. at this point oakland police are telling us they do have a person detained in connection with this shooting. it happened right here behind us at 4900 block of lee -- 400 block of lee street. quite a few investigators are out here. this streis still blocked off. police tell us this began as a robbery but ended with one man being shot. the woman he was with though was not hurt. shooting happened just before 2:00 this morning. the armed robber apparently shot this man in the arm and in the chest. he was taken to the hospital. his condition is unclear this morning. but again we do understand police somehow detained a

person detained the shooter. we are waiting to speak with one of the commanding officers here on scene. one man shot during a robbery not too far away from lake merit. live this morning in oakland alex savidge. a father and son are lucky to be alive after their plane went down in the water off the central coast. tara moriarty joins us now from the coast guard station at sfo with new video of that rescue. tara. >> reporter: just after 3:00 yesterday afternoon the coast guard here and in los angeles received a may day call. someone was in trouble. the san francisco crew was the fist to arrive and able to make a dramatic rescue before their plane sank. the coast guard provided ktvu with this video of the two people clutched from their down cessna like plane. it made an emergency landing mt. waters off the coast after having engine trouble. >> we grabbed the older gentleman which is in his 70s

and we recovered the second gentleman which is in his 30s. both these guys were a father and son duo that do this trip often go up the coast toward canada. >> reporter: now the older man was suffering from hyperthermia. both victims were okay. how did crews locate the plane so quickly? it's something every pilot should have. coming up we'll tell you what it was and how if they didn't have they may not have survived. 7-eleven employee killed inside the store and the give upman is still on -- and the gunman is still on the loose. the store clerk was pronounced dead at the scene. his name has not been released. anyone with information is asked to call milpitas police. it was two years ago today

that a natural gas pipeline exploded into a fire ball in san bruno changing lives forever. last night people living in the city marked the second anniversary of the disaster with two separate memorials. the first was held at san bruno city pack to reveal a plaque with the names of the eight people killed. the mayor hopes the tragedy will lead to important safety measures. >> you have to keep in mind this happened in san bruno but it's not just because we are san bruno. it could have happened anywhere. >> the second memorial was held at 611 in the crest crest-- was held at 6:11 in the crest more neighborhood. the exact time and place where the explosion happened. now on our website we have a collection of stories we have done on the 2010 explosion. just click on the san bruno fire tab of ktvu.com. a vigil is planned tomorrow

for college student from lafayette who was found dead in the sacramento river. 20-year-old brett olson disappeared eight days ago while tubing down the river near chico. his body was found yesterday. olson was a student at cal polly. >> i just got to think of the good side of it. it's a great kid. it's sad but i really do think about all the positive things and great times we had together. >> police say the 20-year-old drowned. there is no sign of foul play. the now the vigil in his honor will begin at 7:00 tomorrow night at o.k. ran any high school in lafayette. time is 4:34. a memorial service is now planned for tomorrow for uc davis student le nay yeah lomax. lomax had been missing for more

than two months. authorities are investigating how she died but they say they doo not suspect foul play. this morning walnut creek police continue to investigate a crash that killed one woman and injured another. on saturday night a pickup truck suddenly drove on to the sidewalk and hit two women walking right in front of the marriott hotel on north main street. one woman from santa barbara 52- year-old sherry hicks died at the scene. the other woman was taken to john mere medical center. >> it wept to there was a wreck outside to it was a horrific scene. >> the driver of the truck has been identified as 53-year-old ho sane tay bee see of walnut creek. he is featuring charges of vehicle manslaughter. the driver killed in a crash in san bruno late saturday night has been

identified the owner of a local restaurant. he was driving north on interstate 280 when he ran into a concrete wall near the 380 connector. he was the owner of don pee coast restaurant. investigators are look into whether ma highway yeah suffered a medical problem in the moments before the crash. election 2012 news this morning president obama is coming back to the bay area for another fundraiser before the november election. according to the san francisco chronicle, the president will be in san francisco on monday october 8th. exact details of the visit have not been released. earlier the president's campaign have released they have raised $114 million in august. for the first time in four months that outdid republican nominee mitt romney. his campaign brought in $111 million. time now 4:37. the former navy seal that wrote a book about the raid to kill osama bin laden is speaking

good morning. we have morning fog but it looks like that will burn off. temperatures inrabid will come up a little bit. chp officer kenyan youngstrom will be held this thursday. a group called police and fire the fallen heros created a memorial for youngstrom yesterday. it was on the shoulder of 680 where he was shot. christopher lacy was shot and killed by a second officer. officer youngstrom's memorial service will be held thursday at 10:00 at the mission church on leisure town road. on the first la dozens of -- on the peninsula dozens gathered to remember police officers, firefighters, and other emergency responders.

the bell rang 72 times for each of the professionals that lost their lives in the line of duty or passed away after retiring. new this morning the u.s. government has gwynn afghan officials full control of a prison where thousands of taliban and terror suspects are detained. afghan president called the transfer a victory for his country's sovereignty. they currently house 3,000 detainees but the u.s. recently stopped transferring suspects after they questioned long-term detentions without charges. we are finally getting a firsthand look at the top secret raid that killed osama bin laden. a former navy seal using the name mark owen is speaking out for the first time in a book called no ecesises day. he sat down for security reasons. but for security reasons his voice and appearance was altered. the pentagon is threatening legal action against owen because it was not submitted

to warmer temps away from the coast. highs today 60s and 70s and 80s. anything on the five, six, seven day outlook really not much. a little cool down on tuesday and we keep it there wednesday and thursday. could be a little warmer toward the weekend. pam. >> thank you. time now is 4:47. and there is no suspect, no motive but there is a victim in critical condition. that is what san leandro police are dealing with after a man was shot several times including once in the head. now officers found the 48-year- old in a duplex on orchard street just before 8:30 last night. he was taken to eden medical center in castro valley. a motorcycle police officer was killed on the job while escorting president obama's motorcade in west palm beach florida. palm beach county says 55-year- old bruce was preparing to shut down a roadway when he was hit

by a pickup truck. he is a 20-year veteran of the force. the motorcade was to escort the president to a campaign event. no charges have been filed jet against the driver. thousands of public schoolteachers in chicago walked off the job this morning. staging their first strike in 25 years. the teachers are walking the picket lines after contract talks broke down last night. at issue pay raises, health benefits, and a new teacher evaluation system that union leaders say will cost jobs. an estimated 25,000 teachers and support staff are expected to strike. >> this is a difficult decision and one we hoped we could have avoided. >> my team is available at any time now to pick up where we left off. so we can get our kids back in the classroom. >> despite the walk out, district officials plan to keep the city's 144 schools open so that students can eat breakfast and lunch.

negotiations are expected to resume sometime today. several fires sparked by lightning storm have firefighters in washington state urging people to evacuate. some 180 homes in we gnat key are located near the 500-acre fire. one fire is still burning 1500 acres near white salmon. thousands of firefighters are working to contain nine major fires here in our state. the scotts fire in lake county is threatening 300 homes just outside of ukiah. 1300 firefighters continuing to battle two fires. they hope to have those contained today. now they are also working on a fire in mendocino county and of course that southern california san gabriel mountain fire. a black bear is back in the

wild after taking a stroll through a southern california neighborhood. the bear was spotted yesterday morning right in front of some homes near a nail salon, and then walking around the track at a nearby high school. it walked on to a freeway onramp. temporarily shutting down the freeway. fish and game responded. tranquilized the bear. its ear was tagged to keep track of him before taken out to the forest. a central california home explodes and damages nearly two dozen homes at the same time. the two different scenarios police are investigating as possible causes. plus the raiders kick off a new season tonight on national television. why the team wants fannings to get -- the fans to get to the coliseum early and the incentives being offered.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. it's 4:53. there are a lot of school perks when it comes to winning third place in the little league world series. petaluma nationals got to meet giants pitcher matt cane yesterday. he hosted a pizza party yesterday. taking photos and signing autographs. the oakland raiders start their season tonight hosting the chargers.

kickoff is 7:15. the team is asking fans to be at the coliseum at least an hour before that because of the new airport style medal detectors. if you get there early you will get a performance by rapper ice cube and you could win autographed memorabilia. the 49ers got the 2012 season off to a good start with a victory over the packers. it was their first win at lambeau field in 22 years. quarterback alex smith throw for 211 yards and two touchdowns. david acres die tied the nfl -- tied the nfl record with a 63- yard field goal that jumped off the cross guard and kept going. 4:54 is the time. back over to sal. hopefully no problems sal. >> no problems. i watch sported all -- sports all day. involved shooting of the year. 23-year-old mario romero was shot to death last wednesday. he got out of a car with what appeared to be a gun. out of the seven police shootings five have been deadly and some people think the city needs to have a citizen review commission to oversee current police activity. the meeting is tonight at 6:30 in the city hall council chambers. investigators are trying to piece together what caused a home in ceres to explode. right now investigators don't know how it happened but they are looking into a possible gas line rupture. now that home was raided last week and police found several pot plants growing in the backyard. up next occupy protestors in albany are at it again. the role vegetables played at a black in add a site owned by uc berkeley. minutes ago we learned new
