memorial. you can see some people also left some flowers here at the site to pay their respects to 9/11 victims. across town earlier this morning, san jose firefighters pay tribute to the victims of september 11th. >> at this moment, i would ask that we have a moment of silence for those who lost families and friends in the 9/11 attacks and remember those members active and retired that we've lost this year. >> reporter: at exactly 6:59 this morning, the time the first tower fell, fire chief william mcdonald's, who you heard over the two-way, delivered a message so that 33 stations could listen and take a moment of silence and then a memorial -- then a memorial

>> arthur barry. >> firefighters read the names of 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the world trade center. all 43 stations in san francisco paused to take a moment to reflect on what happened on september 11th, 2001. fire chief heys white, police chief sur and mayor lee all spoke at station 7. >> it's very meaningful. it's very symbolic. we don't want to forget what happened. >> this is one of those days where everybody remembers exactly -- exactly remembers where they were that day. >> one nation, under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> a group of people also gathered in fremont to remember those who lost their lives during the attacks on september 11th. they held a candlelight vigil

at the veterans memorial. the ceremony was organized by the blue star moms. >> there was a special event specifically honoring the victims on flight 93 heading to san francisco. alex savidge joins us live from the park where emotions are still running high. >> reporter: they are considered heroes, the passengers and crew on flight 93 who fought control to take back the plane. their names are etched into the granite slab at this memorial. and earlier today, some of the family members of them came here today to reflect. >> lorraine bay. sandra bradshaw. >> reporter: their names were read allowed during a -- aloud during a moving ceremony. all passengers and crew that crashed in a field. kathy stefani lost her

power has been restored to thousands of customers in south san jose who lost their electricity this morning because of a car accident. authorities say around 5:30 a.m., this car hit a power pole on san jose avenue and almaden expressway. we're told the driver then fled the scene. about 3500 people were without power for about three hours. at last check, pg&e said about 200 customers were still affected. the american red cross is assisting 13 people with food and shelter after an early- morning fire seriously damaged a san jose apartment complex. the fire was reported just before 3:a.m. on -- 3:00 a.m. firefighters say an upstairs unit was fully enfilmed -- engulfed when they arrived. they were able to get the fire

under control in about 30 minutes. one resident suffered second- degree burns on his amps. some neighbors saw him jumping from an upstairs window. >> he looked really in shock. i asked him if he was okay because he was right next to my car. he just looked at me. i think he didn't know what was going on. >> the fire gutted one -- fire gutted one unit and sparked others. what sparked the fire is under investigation. mayor jean -- mayor jean quan could be facing trouble. officials are having trouble getting her to testify. she has reportedly canceled her depositions. she's planning to attend a deposition on september 5th. the attorney says if not, she will be charged with contempt

investors looking ahead -- a federal reserve meeting starting tomorrow on whether germany can help support the struggling neighbors. right now, the dow is up 61. the nasdaq, is down about 4 and s&p up 3. three san jose counsel members are planning a push to crack down on businesses that cheat on their taxes. the council says millions of dollars of marijuana business taxes have not been paid in the past year alone. they are required to pay under a law that allows the city to pass marijuana collectives up to 7% of the sales. members plan to take the proposal to the council committee tomorrow. today, more disappointing news about jobs. the labor department said that u.s. employers posted fewer jobs in july than they did in june. with almost 13 million people unemployed, an average of 3 1/2 people were competing for each open position. the ratio is about 2-1 in a

healthy economy. a san francisco ordinance requiring cell phone deemers to advertise potential health threats from cell phones is now blocked. the city's ordinance barred yesterday requires retailers to tell customers of the possible dangerous levels of radiation from cell phone use. the court says the city cannot force retailers to pass along the health warnings to customers. the orie conditions will remain barred while -- ordinance will remain barred while it is discussed. the late et from apple is the -- the latest from apple, construction is expected to restart -- start this year and apple expects to open that campus in 2013. we have breaking news. a fatal accident in cupertino.
