man accused of killing a man in san francisco entered a not guilty plea. the judge asked us not to show his face. he is accused of murdering a man. the two went from a bar to his apartment where a roommate found his body bound and gagged. she is still waiting for information from the medical examiner. >> before we get that we won't know what exactly we will do next. but obviously he entered a plea of not guilty and we are relying on the system to give us time to investigate our case. >> his next court appearance is october 1. classes at a elementary school are out till monday due to a fire. the flames broke out this morning at beechwood elementary

school. firefighters worked to keep the fire from jumping but some of the walls started to buckle and the firefighters were forced to fight from the outside. it destroyed a classroom and the administration building where the principal and counselor had their offices. the cause of the fire is under investigation. in fremont a homeowner said it happened for the eight time, someone crashed into his backyard. a driver lost control about 10:00 p.m. last night on -- and crashed through the fence. the driver may have been racing another vehicle. he hit a light pole and a tree before smashing through the fence. the driver was seriously hurt. the homeowner says something has to be done but the city won't help. >> car came through my backyard again, through my fence. happens every year.

city won't put up a guard rail. i talked to them and they haven't done anything about it. >> he was told by a official the city doesn't have the money to pay for a guard rail. new information in the case of suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi. the city's ethic's commission denied his request to delay sending the findings to the board of supervisors. ross mirkarimi wanted the case continued till after the november election, claiming some are under political pressure to fire him. the board has 30 days to vote on ross mirkarimi's future. the labor department reported a jump in first time applications. they increased by 15,000 last week, 382,000.

. battling bullying. today students in san francisco got a look at thim pacts. ktvu's -- look at the impacts. ktvu's david stevenson has more on the emotional lesson. >> reporter: the film kicked off a two day conference about bullying and brought a emotional response from the students watching. [ cheers and applause ] >> reporter: 3,000 san francisco students took a break from class to talk about bullying and how to stop it. >> i got bullied in 6th grade. i felt abandon. >> if you say they are my friends then what friends do i have? >> reporter: the school district hosted screenings of bully, a documentary that depicts the effects on the lives of several young people. >> if you have wealthy families that feel like they are frustrated as poor families. it is unique in that way. >> i was a tom boy and the

her class. teacher's aids claim that she assaulted two 5-year-old boys and in some cases with held food and water. the mother of one boy is also suing saying that she had to hospitalize her son. she pleaded not guilty to the charges. a 11-year-old boy was in court today after being arrested for beating his disabled mother. prosecutors charged him with assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. even though the boy is 11 he is the care giver for his mother who suffered from a medical condition and her injuries were so severe she had to be hospitalized. >> the abuse has been going on for a longer period of time than the first -- the person reported it thought. so we have an active investigation. >> the 11-year-old is in

juvenile hall. at the reno air races today people paused for those killed last year. 11 people including the pilot when a plane crashed into the crowd, more than 70 people were injured. today officials honored four people who played a critical role in helping the injured. the company that makes pink slime is suing a major media outlet. they say they were defamed by abc news coverage. they said they misled consumers about the product saying it is unhealthy and unsafe. they are asking for $1.2 billion in damages. >> reporter: apple won another court battle over its patents

in europe. a court ruled motorola mobility infringed on a apple patent and ordered all cell phone and tablets be recalled. it enables users to move documents over the screen and bounce back to the center after they release their fingers. officials say 9 people have become infected with hantavirus after staying at yosemite national park. officials say they have confirmed all of the infections. eight of those developed hantavirus syndrome. three of them died. they are reaching out to the people who stayed there giving them information. fogging is set to begin at 7:20 p.m. in contra costa county.
