two brothers were fishing near green island road when one of them fell into the water. he apparently cannot swim and was swept up string. allie rasmus is there with more on what rescue teams are trying to do. >> now that the sun is coming up, the coast guard helicopter is supposed to be on the way it to seem to do an aerial search. that's the body of water you see behind us. that bridge is where these two men were fishing overnight and one of them fell into the water. search and rescue crews have been here since three about this morning. three clock a.m. was when i got a report that a man had fallen into the napa river. two men, brother in-laws, sitting on a railroad bridge above the river. he was in a strong suit swimmer. the men fell off the bridge was carried into -- carried westward on the napa river. the other man whose brother-in- law lost sight of him and then

called for help. overnight search crews did find what they believed were the missing man's shoes floating in the water, but the search for him continues. as a coast guard boat on the water right now going to the sloughs entered the terry's of the napa river just west of where we are beyond this bridge. a coast guard helicopter is joining the search. as soon as the sun comes up, it is supposed to do an aerial search of the water as well. ktvu, channel 2 news. >> this morning the fairfield police department investigating a shooting that injured three people. shots reported before 1:00 a.m. on dana drive. officers say a 16-year-old and two men were shot. they were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. so far there's no information about the gunman. police are asking anyone who saw anything to come forward.

police in alameda investigating a shooting that seriously injured one man. it happened early this morning at an apartment complex on the 164th avenue and east 14th street. police reportedly receive calls of the shooting and had to break into an apartment. that's where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. there's been no update this morning on his condition. >> highway patrol trying to figure out why a man decided to run across a busy highway overnight causing an accident that ended his life. it happened around 2:30 this morning on east on 24. officers say the man was driving out of the time away and he suddenly crashed into the center divider. >> the driver of that vehicle got out of the vehicle and was either walk into the shoulder or fleeing from the accident scene. another motorist came along in an attempt to try to avoid the vehicle in the roadway. he struck the pedestrian that was across -- that was crossing the freeway. >> the man was dead at the same. the diverse is cooperating with the highway patrol.

see that people in the whale are forming a cop watch program. yesterday evening the group met in a park near police headquarters. the purpose of the program is to police the police and make sure officers conduct themselves appropriately. this comes after seven officer involved shootings so far this year, five of them fatal. in that there is a lot of fear here with the police department. >> of the interim police chief says these programs have the potential to train good witnesses as long as they don't interfere with crime scenes. he's also pushing to install cameras in police cars that start recording as soon as the lights or sirens is activated. he says the biggest problem is the amount of violent crimes because of all the guns on the street.

>> investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that destroyed a home. it happened around 8:00 last night on capitol street in downtown. a house next to an apartment building called fire. two people were inside the home but were able to get out safely. two apartments were also damaged by the fire. investigators in san jose are looking at three small fires. they look at video of third fire set sometime last night. all three fires began near story road. >> tomorrow is the anniversary of the beginning of the occupy wall street movement. yesterday the group over ali in new york to mark the occasion. it was 1 year ago on september 17th when hundreds of people rallied in new york's financial district to protest the big banks and economic inequality. tomorrow they plan to, once again, return to wall street. occupy protesters were also gather in san francisco's financial district known as the wall street of the west.

that is planned for 5:00 p.m. at california and kearney streets. >> this morning, another insider attack being blamed for the death of four troops. at least one afghan police officer opened fire on troops at a remote checkpoint in southern afghanistan. it says the shooter escaped after the attack. this is the latest in a string of insider attacks between afghan forces and their international counterparts. also in afghanistan, officials say the body as of eight women were brought to a village after reportedly being killed in an airstrike. a spokesman for the aligarh district says says the women were collecting firewood early this morning and were targeted. only insurgents were killed in airstrike. more violence following the death of former americans in libya. coming up, why a travel warning is now being issued.

which two countries are being affected. >> today is the last day of the east bay standdown 2012, the event that began on thursday, provides everything from legal to support to medical services to teeth cleaning for veterans held at the alameda county fairgrounds. it cost between 600 and $700,000 to put on, most of the money coming from private donations. at least 400 veterans are expected to receive some form of help from this weekends event. >> the 49ers home opener at 5:30 tonight. there will be extra security at candlestick with undercover police officers in the crowd of fans. some officers are going to wear 49er gear, others will dress as detroit lions fans. counterfeit tickets and merchandise are also being looked for. the raiders kicked off against the dolphins. mornings on 2:00 --

department yesterday. after the interview he decided not to return home. federal investigators are trying to determine whether he, who was convicted of bank fraud, violated his terms of probation. if so, a judge could order him back to jail. >> an 18-year-old chicago man do in court tomorrow but used a train to set up a car bomb. federal prosecutors say they began monitoring a dell dog after he posted material online about a violent jihad and about killing americans. after the post he unknowingly began working with undercover agents to plan the bombing. they provided him with a big bomb and he was arrested friday night after trying to detonate it. they've are say they were surprised to hear about the arrests. >> so many years together. >> an online post he wrote that he would not be happy if he only killed five or 10 people.

even be delusional. >> the fbi says the man is about 35 years old and has had significant contact with the mental-health system. it is released to pictures of the letters hoping someone will recognize the handwriting. it also offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect. the fbi says the powder in the letters is usually baby powder or detergent. >> 1 year ago today 11 people were killed as their plane came crashing down at the reno air races. this morning the ceremony is planned to mark the somber anniversary. first responders were recognized earlier this week, but today the focus will be on remembering those who died. i'd have -- flights have been flying at half staff in reno all week. today those flights will be rid selecting the end of the races. safety measures were put in place to keep a pilot and spectators

safe. hundreds of american airline flight attendants have decided to walk away from the financially troubled company. they are taking advantage of the airlines $40,000 early all-caps incentive. that offer was put on the table as the airline tries to emerge from bankruptcy. flight attendants to take the offer must give up seniority, can't be rehired, and they lose their subsidized health benefits. 1400 flight attendants have already signed up. >> i don't think 37 years is necessarily an early out. >> flight attendants have until thursday to opt into the program, but because so many have taken advantage of it, the company says it could avoid layoffs. >> now change in command. yesterday it was announced that colonel debra lytic will take a man of the u.s. air force's basic training unit. this comes after dozens of female recruits recorded being sexually assaulted or harassed by male instructors in the past year. colonel lytic is scheduled to take command on friday. hundreds of people calling for

the resignation of the penn state university president and university board members. people gathered on campus yesterday to rally against how the board of trustees handled the jerry sandusky child abuse scandal in the firing of joe paterno. >> i think it probably is up to the alumni to keep the pressure on the board in terms of saying, we think we should have your leave. >> former pittsburgh steeler franco harris was one of the people who attended the rally. he had a cardboard cutout of his former coach as he called for the resignation of board members. a university spokesman declined to comment on the rally. sanford is celebrating after an upset victory over the usc trojans in college football. in front of a sold-out crowd, the quarterback tied the game at 14 in the third with a 23-yard touchdown pass. there it is. the cardinal went ahead on a 37-yard touchdown pass. at last chance for the trojan. the pass was incomplete. sanford is the upset 21/14.

>> the final flight of the space shuttle endeavor leaves kennedy space center at sunrise tomorrow. the shuttle is on the back of a boeing 747 and will eventually be displayed as the california science center. it will fly over the bay area on thursday on its way to southern california. endeavor is expected to make low passes over san francisco landmarks. exact details are still to come and will depend on weather. it was a big success for people who love clean up california's coast yesterday. according to preliminary statewide numbers, nearly 60,000 volunteers helped pick up 320 tons of debris. that equals more than 534,000 pounds of trash and

nearly 106,000 pounds of recycled materials. locally, the biggest turnout had more than 4000 volunteers. many people say cleaning up the beaches and lakes should be of year-round effort. >> is sad how people just don't care. >> it's wherever you might be, that's where we want you to be cleaning up. all that trash will eventually end up in the ocean if we don't stop it first. >> volunteers were on the lookout for debris that may have washed up from this is not me. prizes were handed out for the most interesting items recovered. some of the winners found a love letter, a life-size santa claus decoration, and a 1962 dodge convertible. >> in about an hour brothers lace up their shoes. it's part of a giant race hosted by the san francisco giants. runners will start to meet at at&t park in about 30 minutes. the event features a half marathon as well as a 5 k race. participants will take a trip

fisherman. police say the man was with his brother-in-law when he fell off a bridge near green island road. we all live were a coast guard choppers during the search. >> at our last report, we mentioned that a coast guard helicopter was on its way to output the search for this missing man. about 10 minutes ago it arrived. it is doing an aerial search of the waterways here at the napa river. let me show you some of the video when that chopper alive. it was around three quick this morning when a man fell into the river while sitting on a railroad bridge. a man and his brother-in-law were fishing here. when the man lost his balance and fell into the water. the man was a strong swimmer, apparently, and the current carried him away. a short time later rescue crews arrived to search the water. so far they haven't found the missing men. the coast guard has now joined in the search. >> their model show that survivability in the waters about 30 hours, but with the fact that the river is only a couple

hundred yards wide, we fear the victim has either gone under the water or is even possibly made it out. >> early this morning a helicopter did an aerial search with an infrared camera to see the man had made it to shore. that helicopter you are looking at in the video, that's the quote -- that's the coast guard. they couldn't find any sign of the man in the water. a couple hours ago rescue crews did discover a pair of shoes that they believe the man was wearing when he fell into the water, but the search for him continues. we don't know a lot about this missing man. we just know he's in his 30s. he fell into the water off fishing with his brother-in-law. >> synthesis go police have arrested a teenager in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old from richmond. police found lewis with several gunshot wounds near a fuel ain't early yesterday morning.

police say they arrested a 17-year-old yesterday. he's currently being detained in the juvenile justice to center. >> the cause of the fire remains under investigation. it was reported before 530 at half last night at a complex on wideout wane. according to residents, four were injured. it took 20 minutes for crews to get the fire under control. around 1:30 on friday police responded to a robbery call at the wells fargo branch on santa cruz avenue. eight minutes later reports came in about a honda accord that was burning at an apartment complex. witnesses told police the car on fire was the same car spotted outside the bank and said the man who drove that honda to that apartment building got into the trunk of another car which then drove away. the man is being described as african-american, about 63

inches tall. >> a special memorial to mark six months since lamarr disappeared. the 15-year-old went missing on her way to school from her morgan hill home. 21-year-old antoine garcia to her as has been charged in the case. today's remember that starts at 6:35 p.m. family and friends will say a prayer and release balloons in her memory. >> a high school student remains in serious condition after a crash on interstate 80 in auburn. on friday it started where going to lunch when their suv was clipped by a big rig. the suv flipped before coming to rest. most of the students were treated at a nearby hospital for injuries that included craft -- cracked ribs and cuts. >> i just waited, pretty much. >> intracardiac he suffers the worst injuries.

he was partially ejected and suffered a fractured skull and severe concussion. he's still in hospital under a search in. after seeing pictures of the accident, the students say they feel lucky to be alive. >> a memorial has been set up at a san jose neighborhood to remember an eight-year-old who died after being hit while riding a small pocket bike. the accident happened on carbon drive friday night. police say matthew dunn wrote a small bike in front of a truck. the driver of the truck is cooperating with police. neighbors say they have been several other accidents involving children over the past five years on the street but this was the first death. >> a family over there this link up saying, they were turning around to talk to the kids at the memorial saying, be careful when you ride your bikes, be careful when you cross the street. it's a lesson for all of us to learn. >> neighbors say some of the parents are considering going to the city council to ask for

street signs or speed bumps in the neighborhood. >> county deputies trained to figure out what led up to a deadly boating accident north of sacramento. deputies say it started when two boats crashed last night. two people died and another was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. divers are searching the waters today to see if anyone else may have been on board. >> one of san francisco international main runways remains on clothes -- remained closed. that could mean delays of up to an hour. the runway is expected to reopen at 8:00 tomorrow morning but there are more closures planned during the next two weekends. >> it's official. the nhl season is up in the air after the league threat of a lockout became a reality. players and owners fail to work on a labor deal before the deadline late last night. so at midnight the lockout was on. the move comes less than a month before the hockey season is supposed to start. training camps were set to open on friday. the news has many fans upset. >> i will remain a fan, but i

probably will think twice about renewing tickets. >> we look forward to the home sharks game every single night of the home game. who knows how long it will last. >> this marks the second lockout in just eight years in the third work stoppage in the past 18 years. spent a mental park school damaged by a fire last week will open again tomorrow. according to their facebook page, the power has been turned back on. yesterday teachers and parents helped move some of the debris left over from the fire. the third-grade classroom was destroyed and administrative offices damaged. investigators say they believe it started in the school's kitchen and was likely sparked by a damaged electrical cord. parents in chicago waiting to find out whether or not their children will return to? morning. teachers have been on strike

since last monday. a union leaders in the school district have been working throughout the weekend on the wording of a possible deal that would give teachers raises but also require tougher evaluations. both sides are hoping for a vote sometime this afternoon so students can return to class tomorrow. >> firefighters in los angeles on the night looking for hot spots near the famous getty center. at last check that fire was 90 percent contained and it should be under control sometime today. the fire started in heavy brush near interstate 405 on friday. no one was hurt and no structures were damaged. but los angeles area firefighters battling another fire. this one near the santa monica was. that fire started yesterday afternoon in a remote area of rustic canyon. at this point, at 75 percent contained, no evacuations ordered, but residents have been warned to prepare for the possibility. southern california has been experiencing especially dry and hot conditions with temps above 100 degrees. >> haven't seen any massive wildfires in northern california

agents prime minister says some of the thousands of people involved in days of protest that pay for it. the protest being tuesday and is later several admitted to getting money. >> people affected by the mass shooting at a colorado movie theater are angry about what's being planned for the $5 million in donations collected since the tragedy. last week the group, comprised of victims and families of those killed, said it was being left out on the decision on how to distribute the money. the foundation overseeing the relief fund disagrees and says it asked the group for its input on two ways to spend the money. the first of either evenly between the wounded, the families of the disease, and people displaced while the shooter's apartment was being searched. the second were divided up

search and rescue crews some space. this bridge you see behind us is where a man in his 30s fell off while he was fishing with his brother-in-law and fell into the water. early this morning, there were some coast guard helicopters out here doing an aerial search of the napa river. there'ses coast guard boats still on the water. seven and rescue crews have been out here since 3:00 this morning and that's when the manual was reported miss -- man was reported missing. they had been fishing off the railroad bridge right above the napa river when the man lost his balance and fell n. he wasn't a very strong swimmer and the current in this river was moving pretty fast. >> whether the coast guard got here, they dropped their buoy in and within an hour and a half, it had already gone river three-quarters of a mile. so there's mocht of water. it's -- movement of water. it's not completely static. initially the victim has been reported going up the river north. >> reporter: during the

overnight hours, chp helicopter did an aerial search with an infrared camera to see if the man had somehow made it on the shore and was walking in the area but they didn't find any sign of him. a couple of hours ago rescue crews discovered a pair of shoes that they believe the man was wearing when he fell into the water. but the search for this man continues this morning. if we take you back out here live, you can see where the napa county sheriff has set up a staging area. again sometime in the next half- hour, search and rescue crews are -- volunteers are going to be arriving here with some of their search and rescue dogs. we'll have to move farther away from the scene as the search for this missing man continues. live in american canyon, ktvu channel 2 news. fairfield police are investigating the shooting of three people. the shots were reported just before 1:00 a.m. on dana drive. officers say the three people shot were all men. they are 16, 46, and 54 years old. all three were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. so far there is no information

on the shooter. police are asking anyone who saw anything to come forward. a man in alameda county was seriously injured in an early morning shooting. police responded to an apartment complex on 164th avenue in east -- and east 14th street. that's where they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. so far no update on his condition. highway patrol now trying to figure out why a man decided to run across a busy freeway overnight causing an accident that ended his life. it all happened around 2:30 this morning on eastbound 24 near aowe run today. >> the driver of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and was either walking to the shoulder or fleeing from the accident scene. another motorist came along and in an attempt to try to avoid the vehicle that was in the roadway struck the pedestrian that was crossing the freeway. >> reporter: the man was pronounced dead at the scene. the driver who hit him is

cooperating with the highway patrol. officers are now looking into whether or not alcohol may have played a role in the initial crash. people in vallejo are joining forces with the police. yesterday evening the group met in a park near police headquarters. it's being trained by the fresno-based organization national network in action. the purpose of the program is to make sure officers conduct themselves appropriately. this comes after seven officer- involved shootings in vallejo so far this year, five of them fatal. >> there's a lot of fear here in vallejo with the police department and you have a right to be. >> vallejo's interim police chief says these programs have the potential to train good witnesses as long as they don't interfere with crime scenes. he is also pushing to install cameras in police cars that start recording as soon as the lights and sirens are activated. he says the biggest problem in vallejo is the amount of violent crime because of all the guns out there on the streets. investigators in vallejo are trying to figure out what

sparked a fire that destroyed a hope. it happened around 8:00 last night in downtown vallejo on capital street. a house next to an apartment building caught fire. two people were inside that home. both were able to get out safely. two apartments were also damaged by that fire. three small fires in san jose's kelly park are now being looked into by arson investigators. this is video of the third fire reportedly set sometime last night. all three fires began near story road. that's been a number of fires here since a homeless encampment moved into the area. an insider attack is being blamed for the death of four u.s. troops in afghanistan. at least one afghan police officer opened fire at a remote check point in southern afghanistan. nato says the gunman escaped after the attack. it says this is the late nest a string of insider attacks it afghan forces and their international counterparts. also this morning, afghanistan officials say eight women were killed in a nato air strike in eastern afghanistan.

a spokesman says the women were collecting fire wood and were targeted by the planes. nato says it is investigating these claims but initial reports show only insurgents were killed during the air strike. it's the last day after three-day event designed to give free help to veterans. >> east bay stpped began thursday. it costs it 600 and $700,000 to put on and most of that comes from private donations. at least 400 veterans are expected to receive some form of help from this weekend's event. occupy wall street protesters are preparing to celebrate their first anniversary. the group held a rally in new york to mark the occasion. it was almost one year ago on september 17 when hundreds of people rallied in new york's financial district to protest big banks and economic inequality.

the cylinder was used by the companies who drill a natural gas well. they're refacing the route of a truck carrying that rod before it went missing on september 11. we're learning more about the person the f.b.i. says is sending out letters supposedly filled with anthrax. according to the fbi, a man in syracuse, new york is responsible for sending 21 letters during the last 15 years. those letters generally start with the phrase, quote, the paper you are now holding has been thoroughly saturated with anthrax spores and you will soon die. they address topics that include aids and 9/11 conspiracy theories. >> it may seem bizarre, somewhat unusual. they may be disjointed thoughts but to this person they can be very, very real. they can be so extreme, they may even be delusional. >> the f.b.i. says the man is about 35 years old and has had significant contact with the mental health system. it has released two pictures of the letters here hoping someone

will recognize the handwriting. it is also offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect. the f.b.i. says the powder in the letters is usually baby powder or detergent. an 18-year-old chicago man is facing life in prison after allegedly trying to set up a -- set off a car bomb outside a downtown bar. federal prosecutors say they began monitoring him after he posted material online about a violent jihad and killing americans. after the posts, he unknowingly began working with undercover agents to plan that bombing. they provided him with a fake bomb and he was arrested on friday night after they say he tried to detonate it. neighbors say they were surprised to hear about the arrest. >> so many years together. he no problem. his family okay. i'm sad, you know. i hear that. >> an online post he wrote that he would not be happy if he only killed five or ten people.

hairris is one of the people who attended the rally. a university spokesperson declined to comment on the rally. hundreds of american flight attendants have decided to walk away from the financially troubled company. they're taking advantage of the $40,000 early out cash incentive. the offer was put on the table as the airline tries to emerge from bankruptcy. flight attendants who take the offer must give up all seniority. they cannot be rehired and they lose their subsidized health benefits. 1400 flight attendants have already signed up. >> it's about time. i don't think 37 years is necessarily an early out. >> flight attendants have until thursday to opt into the program because so many have taken advantage of it, the company says it could avoid layoffs. wind turbines could be the answer to powering the entire east coast. that's according to new research from stanford university. the university says it would require 144,000 off shore

santa monica mountains. it started yesterday afternoon in a remote area of rustic canyon. it's 75% contained and no evacuations have been ordered. however, residents have been warned to prepare for that possibility. southern california is experiencing especially dry and hot conditions with temperatures above 100 degrees. it was a big success for people who helped clean up california's coast yesterday. according to preliminary statewide numbers, nearly 60,000 volunteers helped pick up 320 tons of debris. that equals more than 534,000 pounds of trash and nearly 106,000 pounds of recyclable materials. here in the bay area san mateo had the biggest turnout with more than 4,000 volunteers. many people say cleaning up our beaches and lakes should be a year round effort. >> it's sad how people just don't care and litter our land like this. >> it's wherever you might be.

quarter mile away from the bridge where this man fell in the water. you can faintly see it in the distance through the fog. a man in his 30s fell into the napa river while he was sitting on that bridge with his brother- in-law. the to were fishing on the bridge at 3:00 this morning when the man lost his balance and fell in the water. a coast guard helicopter did do an aerial search of the napa river and its tributaries and flows early this morning. other search crews with calfire and american canyon have been out here since last night. now the coast guard is leading up the search. they say it's possible this man may have survived the cold water and the swift current in the river, but they're concerned they haven't found him yet. >> their models show survivability in the water is about 30 hours but with the fact that the river is only a couple hundred yards wide, you know, we fear the victim is either gone under the water or is even possibliably made it out. >> reporter: early this morning, a chp helicopter did an aerial search with an

infrared camera to see if the man somehow made it on the shore and was walking in the area nearby. however, they did not find any sign of him. what rescue crews did discover were a pair of shoes that they believe the man was wearing. this missing man was wearing when he fell into the water. but the search for this man continues. again, back out here live, we're about a quarter mile away from the bridge, the brazos bridge where that man was sitting and fell into the water. we've been told by the napa county sheriff's office to give them some room to go through what they say now is a crime scene. live in american canyon, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning americans are being told to avoid sudan and tunisia. the state department has issued travel warnings for those two countries due to the security concerns over recent violence. the department also ordered all u.s. families there now along with some government personnel to leave. while sudan's government has taken steps to limit attacks, the u.s. says terror threats

still remain high. 4,000 sailors and marines from camp pendleton are scheduled to leave for the middle east tomorrow. their departure comes amid heightened tensions after the killing of ambassador stevens and three other american diplomats. some of the thousands of people involved in days of protest near the u.s. embassy in egypt got paid for it. the protests began tuesday and just days later, several admitted to getting money. others were protesting on their own time to vent their anger against the united states over the anti-muslim film it allegedly produced in southern california. pope benedict xvi called for peace in the middle east during an open air mass in lebanon today. his appeal comes during a three- day visit aimed at united christians and muslims. the pontiff planned the trip before the unrest broke out this week over the film. he made no reference to the protests but he urged for peace in syria, dekraaiing the violence which -- dekraaiing

the violence -- de crying the violence he says causes so much suffering. the man who allegedly produced the film may have gone into hiding. nakoula basseley nakoula was interviewed by the l.a. sheriff's department. after the interview he decided not to return home. investigators are trying to determine whether nakoula who was convicted of bank fraud violated his probation terms. more on a deadly crash north of sacramento. the boat operator was drunk when he crashed into another boat last night. it happened at angle wright lake in yuba county. two people died and another was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police arrested 53-year-old jeffrey sandow of auburn and he's facing two counts of manslaughter. a fire at a mountainview apartment complex is under investigation this morning. it was reported just before 5:30 last night at a complex on wind dot lane. according to a resident four units were damaged and three

people including a firefighter were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. it took about 20 minutes for crews to get that fire under control. a memorial has been set up in san jose at a neighborhood to remember an 8-year-old who died after being hit while riding a small bike. the accident happened friday night. police say matthew denn rode a small bike in front of a truck. the driver of the truck is cooperating with police. there have been several accidents involving children over the past five years on the street but this was the first death. >> the family over there this morning kept saying -- turn around talking to the kids who were there at the memorial saying hey, be careful when riding your bikes. be careful when crossing the streets. it's a lesson for all of us to learn. >> neighbors say some of the parents considering going to city council to ask for signs or street bumps in that area. a special memorial will be held today to mark six months since sierra lavarre disappeared. she went missing on the way to

school. today's remembrance starts at 6:30 p.m. at the elementary school in morgan hill. family and friends will say a prayer and release balloons in her memory. san francisco police have arrested a teenager in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old from richmond. police found demario lewis with several gunshot wounds near osceola lane early yesterday morning. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police say they arrested a 17- year-old yesterday and right now he is in the juvenile justice center. a placer high school student is recovering from a serious head injury after a rollover accident on interstate 80 in auburn. on friday night students -- eight students were going to lunch when their suv was clipped by a big rig. the car flipped before coming to rest on its roof. most of the students were treated at a nearby hospital for injuries that included cracked ribs and cuts.

>> i just laid in the glass outside of my feet and waited pretty much gl. andrew carducci suffered the worst injuries. he was partially ejected out of the window in the crash and suffered a fractured skull and severe concussion. he is in the hospital under observation. after seeing pictures of the accident, the students say they feel lucky to be alive. one of san francisco international airport's main runways remains closed today. it is shut down for safety improvements and that could mean delays of up to an hour for arriving and departing flights. the runway is expected to reopen at 8:00 tomorrow morning but there are more closures planned for the next two weekends. it's official. the nhl season is up in the area after the league's threat of a lockout became a reality. players and owners failed to work out a labor deal before the deadline late last night so at midnight the lockout was o. the move comes less than a month before the hockey season is expected to start. training camps were set to open friday. the news has many fans upset.

last week will open again tomorrow. according to beachwood schools's facebook page, the power has been turned back on. yesterday teachers and parents helped move some of the debris left over from that fire. a third grade classroom was destroyed and administrative offices badly damaged. investigators say they believe it started in the school's kitchen and was likely sparked by a damaged electrical cord. in election news, republican presidential nominee mitt romney is in colorado today ahead of what is expected to be a tough week of campaigning for both him and president obama. tomorrow romney heads to california for a fund-raiser in orange county and it will be his first stop here since announcing paul ryan as his running mate. tomorrow president obama will hold a rally in ohio. that's going to be followed by a fund-raiser in new york on tuesday and then a two-city visit in florida. mitt romney is due back in the bay area this week according to the san francisco conchronicle. he's going -- san "san francisco chronicle." he's going to hold a fund-

we have new top story we've following you for all morning long. a search is under way for a fisherman who fell off the brazos bridge in napa county this morning. he was there with his brother- in-law. the sheriff's department tells us they're treating the area as a crime scene until they with prove otherwise but they also say there's no immediate sign of foul play. rescue dogs are searching for the man and you can check ktvu.com for updates throughout the day. a car chase ended when the person police wanted rolled out of a moving car and jumped off a freeway overpass. it started just after 10:00 on friday night on the city streets of san bernardino. when the chase ended, the man bailed out of the car and jumped to the street below. he was taken into custody with minor injuries. it's not clear why that chase started. lawyers for britain's royal
