east 14th street he is there to tell us what happened, allie? >> reporter: the battalion chief said he will be recovering but will not be working in alameda as a firefighter for a while. he suffered an injury while battling this fire here at the restaurant on east 14th street in san leandro. the fire started around 2:00 a.m. this morning. when alameda firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke and flames coming from a back storage area, now in order to release some of the smoke inside several firefighters went to cut holes and ventilate the smoke. that is when the firefighter hurt himself and he suffered a gash in his calf while using a circular saw, but because of the architecture of this building, it was a challenging

fire. >> the saw has something that goes around the outside of it and going into the back room it was difficult and heavy smoke was in the restaurant itself. >> reporter: now the injured firefighter was rushed to the medical center in caster valley where he was treated for his leg and he is recovering. you can see here live owners are cleaning up and they went to assess some of the damage, and the restaurant was not completely destroyed. this restaurant has been here for about ten years but the building itself is about 50 years old. the back storage area is where most of the fire was, the eating area of the restaurant is still intact and the owner says he is optimistic he will be able to open sometimes in the -- sometime in the next couple of months. allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 morning news. right now in san francisco occupied protesters are taking down their tents after police

told them to do it a few moments ago. tara moriarty is right there, so tara, what is the very latest? >> reporter: well, police just suited up in riot gear and there are several patrol cars lining the streets on both sides. they are suiting up but as to whether they will move in, we don't know. this is justin herman plaza and this is where they came to mark the one year anniversary of fsf. what is going on, police officers have asked you to take down your tents? >> well, we are going to compliant take the tents down before 6:00 a.m. but we will continue our protests here. >> reporter: why are you here? >> we are here to celebrate our

one year anniversary of occupy. it is basically, it is a birthday party for occupy and we have been working hard throughout the year petitioning our grievances -- >> reporter: you actually have been in front of the federal reserve building, haven't you? >> yes, many of us have been in front of the federal reserve building throughout the year and we continue to state our grievances with the government and a lot of it has to deal with the corporate issues and the federal reserve bank. >> reporter: so how long do you plan to stay here? >> we plan to affectively work with the san francisco police department due to direct action... >> reporter: okay thanks for joining us. here is the captain we spoke to earlier and he just sort of waved at everybody, are you taking off right now? >> well, they can stay inside

riot gear back and leaving. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. union city police want your help. they are looking for a man who tried to sexually assault and rob a woman. you have all the details, good morning alex. >> reporter: it happened last week but this morning union city police are doing what they can to find the man. they say this man had a gun -- [ technical difficulties, stand by ] [ technical difficulties, stand by ] [ audiotive cultties ] new this morning, the u.s. embassy in bangkok is closing early as a precaution over that anti-islam film. police in thailand said 400 people are peacefully protesting outside the embassy and they are monitoring closely

that demonstration. meantime, libyan officials gave the u.s. warnings according to a report where the ambassador christopher stevens and three others were killed and they maintain they had no early warning. mitt romney is doing some damage control after a controversial video came out with him telling donors that almost half the american people consider themselves victims who deserve government support. >> there are 30% who believe they are victims who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them... >> now and coming up at 6:15, we will tell you whether mitt romney plans to apologize to this controversy and also we will have a response from president barack obama on that video. we are looking at just a

lot of traffic pictures here in the traffic studio and they are getting more crowded but they are not out of the ordinary and i keep looking at chp to make sure there are no is your supplies -- surprises. no problems getting to the bay bridge toll plaza and we are having more show up and about 6:15 is when these metering lights are coming on. again if you drive same time every day you will see about the same thing out there. looking at the east bay cast tore val -- caster valley, all of those cities, all looking pretty good and if you are driving on the san mateo and dumbarton, it is a nice drive across the bay. let's go to steve. there is a little chill out there, you can feel that and the fog bank has really ramped up. i can't find a northeast winds and it does not mean things

can't change. cooler inland continues. the coast is stuck, the bay is stuck and this will carry us to wednesday, but those away from the coast, the west wind is definitely in place and there is a lot of fog on the coast. 50 in fairfield, most locations in fact everybody on the 6:00 a.m. reporting are what we call the hourlies, cloudy and there is a big fog bank, we have seen gusts almost at 30 with travis, out to the sacramento valley a little low tips to play the here and it will be -- continues to play out here. 74 sonoma, petaluma 71, 80 in

whether they will consider the district's latest offer. they will decide on whether to call off the strike and the vote will come later on the contract. >> that is extremely disappointing, because they need to be in classrooms with students. >> the largest district has kept about 350,000 kids out of class. cal state university is up for a vote by trustees. they want to keep the campus running if voters reject a state tax hike in november. if proposition 30 does not pass, they can pass on a quarter billion dollars. they are voting on a 5% tuition hike along with fee increases that would go into effect in january if proposition 30 fails. and in response to the

fatal police shooting, oakland police say a man pointed a began before officers shot him on may 6th but family members say he was unarmed. they are organizing a rally and plan to address what they say is a coverup. major league baseball is now investigating reports that toronto's shortstop, escobar may have displayed a homo phobicsly under the eye block under his eyes. it was reportedly written in spanish and you know they wear stickers that block sun glare. escobar reportedly displayed thatsly against the boston red sox. now with just 14 games left, they are beginning a series in detroit against the tigers and fans are already buying up

oakland looks nice and it is getting more crowded. if you are driving near the toll plaza, it is getting more crowded and it's just a busy time now for the next two and a half hours or so, we'll see a crowded commute like this and no problems reported on that span. this is a look at the dumbarton bridge, and you can see the road sensors are moving along well according to cal train, and sources are approving that as well. cool chill think morning and we have a big fog bank and that's a low cloud deck when concord makes it out to fairfield when it is a pretty strong surge. big fog bank and it's not going to get much warmer for a while. i don't see anything yet. 62 for a high this morning and it's a very brisk 52. everybody even antioch and

livermore 53 and 50 santa rosa, southwest 52 almost 30 at travis, southwest oakland and almost everybody is in on that sea breeze. patterns are blocked and there is a little low skipping towards as you -- spinning towards us and nights and mornings, temperatures took awhile and they are now more in the 70s and 80s. i really don't see much change, 60s and 70s carrying that through and that low will drop through sunday and monday and we will have another round of cooler revenue. the delivery company reports earnings are down as costs increase. fl1edl0ex warns they are likely to miss the forecast as the global economy weakens.

thank you for joining us, it is a tuesday september 18th, i am dave clark. >> time now 6:30, this is a story we have been following this morning and occupied protesters are now taking down their tents at justin herman plaza. tara moriarty has been out there as well and they say police and protesters, i guess they can stay but with a few conditions, tara? >> reporter: they can stay because they did compliant they took down all of their tents as requested. we also noticed a fire truck and there may be some sort of a medical call over there but we will check it out. these protesters are allowed to stay but the situation could change tonight when the park closes. at 4:30, police came by and said why are these tents still

up. so police suited up in riot gear got back in patrol cars and then 40 protesters ended up here and camped out until this morning. >> the camp is open until after 6:00. they can visit the park like anyone else but what they can't do is camp or lodge and put up tents and so forth. we have a group of officers to make sure that does not take place and that there is no violence or vandalism. >> reporter: this marks -- >> reporter: this marks a one year anniversary of the protesting and they made their presence known to several financial institutions. democracy over debt and they also burned money as a symbol of getting rid of debt. we are not sure what protesters have planned and we are not

sure if they know but of course we will keep you posted. i am just getting information that they pulled up here and somebody got pepper spray in their eyes and we are not sure if that was a protester but we will check it out. a new structure in antioch was destroyed in a fire. taking a look, firefighters found the structure fully engulfed in flames. firefighters are investigating the cause and they are saying it is suspicious. this comes after a handful of fires in the area say are arson and the fires were set by transients in the area. an islamic group is now claiming responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing in afghanistan where at least 12 people were killed. a driver drove a car packed

with bombs at a kabul airport. the bomber was a young woman and this anti-islam movie has triggered protests all along the middle east. well with, they are praising the killing of ambassador chris stevens -- chris stevens. in the meantime, many held a vigil in chris steven's honor. they lit candles and wrote notes of condolences to his family. >> it struck me in a way that i didn't expect. >> i am still feeling a lot of gratitude for this man and i don't know a lot about him but i am hoping to learn more about him. >> they described the ambassador as a long time friend, leader and teacher who brought out the best in people.

one of the actors from that controversial movie which sparked so many protests is talking this morning. he is hiding his real identity but he is coming forward talking about his true feelings. why he said he was duped into helping to make that movie coming up at 545 testimony. the. google area is sharing their area with some upcoming actors, good morning. >> reporter: no celebrity sightings so far but we have seen lots of equipment indicating they may be filming soon. the movie is called internship. the actors were spotted here and people were tweeting and posting pictures of them online. they made a stop at the game

shaking hands and visiting the locker room and the final weeks are apparently being filmed here and we hear they were doing a casting call for an owen wilson stand in. it stars will burns and it's scheduled for a 2013 release. ann rubin ktvu channel 2 morning news. the search for a missing firefighter will continue this afternoon in lincoln nebraska. last night lincoln police received a tip that somebody saw a man if it'sing the -- fitting the description of charlie dowd. he left on wednesday to montreal to see his son. he disappeared somewhere between denver and chicago. family members last spoke to him on friday when amtrak found his cell phone medication and bag on the train headed to

chicago. a new announcement from chris moore. moore who is a police veteran wants to spend more time with his family. that comes after a spike in valence -- violence and the pension reform battle that led to many police officers leaving over this battle. >> you have many good people fighting and the frustration is when you are caught in the middle but again that is not the driving factor and it's about being the right time for me. >> chris moore took over as police chief 18 months ago and his last day on the job will be october 31st. they could take a major step when it comes to clean energy. this afternoon, it would put 9. $5 million towards the fso program. they are designed to provide

a great chilly morning, a little cool now, low 50s and upper 40s for some, we have that breeze and the nights are getting longer, the angle of the sun is not as high as it was 8 weeks ago and it's a cooler pattern for some. this cooler pattern will take us into thursday. we could see a warmer pattern but we will get back in the 80s for some. there is a big fog bank but along the coast in san francisco, why change anything? not much as changed except for an increase in some of that fog. low 50s for almost everybody and you throw in a west southwest gusting at 29 and that's our rip roaring sea breeze which is a southwest wind for everybody. sacramento hit 88 and that

crews had to rescue him overnight. a firefighter is recovering in the hospital after battling a second-alarm fire at this restaurant. we will tell you how he was injured and other challenges emergency crews faced. traffic is moving well on the richmond san rafael bridge with no major problems and we will tell you about a problem on the east shore blocking lanes. ñçbñ

. here is a quick look at some of the top stories we are following at 6:43, mitt romney is talking about a controversial video where with he is telling wealthy donors that 46% of the population is looking to the government to support them. he wants to see the whole video released for context. and just about 40 minutes ago, occupied protesters took down their tents at justin herman plaza. police are saying those tents

can stay because the plaza is now officially open. some are making sure trent not -- tent are not put back up and making sure there is no violence or vandalism. a man robbed a woman and tried to sexually assault her and police are searching for this man. he is described as a man of mixed race and had a tattoo on the right side of his neck. a firefighter was hurt while battling a fire in san leandro. allie rasmus has more on how that firefighter was hurt. allie? >> reporter: well the fire started at 2:00 a.m. and began in the back storage area of the restaurant. that back storage area is the area where the fire was and it was kept in that enclosed

space. there was a lot of heavy smoke coming from that area so they sent several officers up on to the roof to release some of the smoke so ground crews could go inside. one of the firefighters cut his leg with a circular saw. he was rushed to the medical center in caster valley. they said it was a serious cut, three inches wide and two inches deep. the firefighter is recovering from that injury and it will be awhile before he is able to come back to work. there was a lot of smoke and flames and they are trying to keep the smoke from spreading to the rest of the restaurant. they are gaining access and the guys did a pretty good job knocking it down relatively quickly. >> reporter: now i spoke to the owner off camera and he said he

is optimistic he will be able to reopen his restaurant in the next couple of months. he -- months. prior to that, the building itself is 50 years old but he and some of the managers and a cleaning crew went through and they assessed some of the damage and the eating area is relatively damaged but he is optimistic he will be able to open at some point. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. we have new video in placer county where a base jumper became stuck 150 feet above the american river. his par suit -- parachute became stuck and cal fire had to use a truck with a 90-foot latter. we don't know his condition at this point but base jumping

involves using a parachute to jump from objects. and they are blocking anymore publication of topless photos of kate middleton and he ordered them to hand over copies of the photos. under this morning's ruling, the magazine can't public the photos anymore and that ruling affects the french publicker. -- publisher. well britain's prince harry was apparently the target on a taliban attack in afghanistan. that base was home to british as well as u.s. soldiers. prince hairy was taken to -- harry was taken to a secure place when insurgence dressed as soldiers stormed the military base. the prince as you know is a helicopter pilot for the

british military. his deployment was announced earlier this month and taliban said they were trying to either capture or kill him. he said he regrets his decision to do this film. >> it could have been just a normal film but this i terribly regret it and everything else that comes along with it. >> the man who played solomon is hiding his identity. he said he was deceived and thought it was going to be more like a comedy. several americans were killed in response to that film. time now 6:49, sal is back and are there problems in contra costa? >> yes, we have a stalled truck. let's get to the antioch area, and also in pittsburgh as you head west, but i want to move the maps here to west 80 over

the area, there is a stalled truck and the traffic is affected as far back as the bridge. if you need to go there, you need to give yourself extra time. they are having a heck of a time getting that truck out of there. people are stuck in the vallejo and panola area but when you get to the bay bridge, you will see backups which stretch beyond the 880 crossing, let's go to steve. a lot of low clouds around, it is a solid fog bank, inland temperatures they are -- inland temperatures, they are cooling off and cooling continues inland and it started yesterday and continues today probably bottoming out and overnight lows, we are thinking about

turning on the heater because it is getting cooler. concord, you throw a gust of 29 miles per hour and travis has a temperature of 50 so that will cut right through you. even with the low clouds, it is blocked. but there is a slow coming underneath it and sometimes these patterns can last a long time. they get a little bit of sun but sometimes the fog comes back in. again these continue to ramp down a bit, 60s and 70s for most, even out to concord, pleasanton, san leandro, 67, oakland 66 same for berkeley, san jose, same as yesterday, slightly warmer, saratoga, los gatos, menlo park, mountain view, 62 in the city and including capitoa, your weekend is approaching but it looks

cooler again for sunday and monday. it started again with an all time high just $700 a share. record sales are coming through for the iphone 5. right now we are keeping an eye on it and it is down more than $2 per share. it is still trading at $698 per share. airlines were down almost 5% from june. many delays were from severe thunderstorms from the midwest and also passengers on 18 domestic flights were stuck on tar max. this compares to four, for the entire six months. it does not make anybody happen. well the weather did it again delaying the space shuttle flight, they piggy back out of florida and when you will see it out of the bay

they shut down the report. they are withholding 24 pages for privacy reasons. they said surveillance did not violate anybody's legal rights. if weather cooperates they will be able to land and right now it is in florida and its final flight to its new home in los angeles has been delayed because of bad the weather all along the route to florida. they will try to land sometime between 8:30 and 5:00 a.m. monday morning. traffic right now is crowded getting to the toll plaza and traffic here is going to be backed up almost to the maze, not quite and pretty slow traffic on 880 because of a stalled truck in funnel.
