9:30 am
. hello everyone. i'm beth troutman. now a half hour of great videos and the stories behind them, "right this minute." >> standing on the edge of a lava lake, going where no man has gone before. >> this is neil armstrong kind of stuff. >> meet the man who faced 2,000 degrees of sheer danger. >> people say it looks like you're standing on the surface of the sun. >> a run-of the-mill fishing
9:31 am
trip, the story behind the whales who decided to drop anchor. a stadium bathroom is the scene of unsportsman like conduct. >> see what sparked the down and dirty brawl. plus the images from the space station have ufo wondering. plus boaters scrambling from the boat deck to escape. this next video takes you to a place where no man -- no, check that. where this man has gone before. jeff is an adventurist and this is a lava lake at the bottom of an island. it's a chain of volcanic islands in the south pacific. he is standing at the edge of a volcanic lake.
9:32 am
it's $212 2100 degrees fahrenhe. he's wearing breathing apparatus to be there. it took them about 25 days to achieve this. they had to run a string of ropes down into the crater of a volcano. with stand crumby weather. >> he looks like he's standing on the surface of the sun. >> to explain what it feels like. >> it's only really truly hot when you're on the edge of the lake. we did a bit of a test with out the breathing and apparatus and the suit. you could stand the heat for roughly 6 seconds and then you had to run away. >> how close did you get to the lava? >> probably about 80 feet. >> what is your body feeling?
9:33 am
what is the experience like. >> it might as well be on the surface of the sun. i was able to with stand the heat for 40 minutes until the air ran out. it was really an out-of-world experience. >> were you worried about your equipment? >> we took the video camera how way down the cliff. because it's such an enormous climb we decided to leave the camera down there and the camera was hanging down there on a rope for like two weeks. after that we got it out of its bag, it worked perfectly. >> did you do this just because you wanted to be the first? >> there are very few places on earth if any that you can go and stand and say that i am the first person to ever stand here. more people have been on the moon than have been down there. take a look at this
9:34 am
remarkable video. >> we found the story of a blog called 33 feet to alaska. it's a blog, two guys decided to put together to document their fishing experiences. they were in a small bay in british columbia and they had anchored their fishing boat. they were out on their dinghy, enjoying the morning when they saw a blast come from a whale's blow hole. >> how rare to see it in a small bay like that. >> they're in roughly 30 feet of water here. the whale goes and swims close to their fishing boat and takes the anchor into its mouth almost as if it was playing with the rope that was anchoring this ship to the bottom of this bay. as the video progresses, the fisher men get in their dinghy and realize that the whale is getting tangled up.
9:35 am
so they start to freak out. you'll notice that the boat is swaying back and forth and moving. that's from the force of the whale's body. >> that just goes to show you how powerful this thing is. >> but it also shows how dangerous the situation just became. >> you're right. it could have been bad all the way around. >> what do we do? >> the whale with the force of its body broke the rope. >> he just broke the rope. >> they were concerned that this anchor was going to be tangled on this whale. but they said on their blog that they later went out to see with their bin oculars, saw the whale's blow hole and it had somehow broken free from the anchor. that the anchor wasn't inside. if you spend any time at live sporting events, sometimes you find you spend more time in the bathroom. especially in the dude's bathroom.
9:36 am
i know it can backed up in there. >> the women's bathroom has a lot of lines. >> regardless, there are a lines. at a recent raiders game, apparently somebody jumped in line in the bathroom. >> not good. >> what do you think happens next? >> something bad? >> a full-on throwdown ensues in this men's room. >> they're on the floor of the bathroom. >> this is raider on raider warfare here. don't get in a fight in the dirty gross bathroom and roll around on all this dried urine. not just dried. >> that's disgusting. a bathroom brawl belongs in one place and that's in junior high school. >> i love how he broadcasted that left hook. he's kind of watching and then go back and washing his hands. >> he's a smart dude, these guys
9:37 am
are idiots. i'm getting back out to the game. >> maybe they should have asked the guy. what if he had one too many jalepenos on his nachos. the residents in oklahoma had to go without power because of this. this is a transformer that is on fire, but look at what happens right about here. >> holly cow. it's like a mushroom cloud. >> the transformer exploded from the fire it was experiencing. >> from what i understand they are full of mineral oil and that's probably what caused the fire ball. >> that is correct but the actual cause of the fire that led to that explosion is still being investigated. they had to go without power for an hour to two hours.
9:38 am
this is another angle of that same fire from a much closer distance. >> leading up to that, you just hear all the electrical noise. and then it blew up. and then no more zap. >> surprised that camera guy still has eye browse. he was so close to that. >> and the difference between the video is the fact you not only see what's going on, you get to hear everything burning up. >> that's fascinating. i'm sorry those people didn't have electricity, but pretty cool video. can i just say that i love that he's the v.p. >> it's a video that's taking a shot at the iphone 5. see the band iphone pro mow, or so it claims, coming up on "right this minute." and these guys put the power saw to the atm and withdrew some big

bucks. >> close to $1.1 new dialing pe for the 408 and 669 area codes? no, what is it? starting october 20, 2012,

if you have a 408 or 669 number, you'll need to dial 1 plus the area code plus the phone number for all calls. o.k., but what if i have an 408 number and i'm calling a 408 number? you'll still need to dial 1 plus the area code plus the phone number. so when in doubt, dial it out!

be prepared to jump out of your seats. that lightning strike hit the water. >> it hit the water. that's the lightning strike in the bay in montenegro. he saw lightning strikes on the land right across this bay so he thought i'm going to get my camera out. little did he know that only seconds later after the camera started rolling that the lightning would strike right in the bay. imagine you had been in that boat and that happened. i would start heading to shore as fast as i could. >> did a bunch of burned,
9:42 am
charred fish float up from beneath the surface. >> it's prime example of why you shouldn't swim during a thunderstorm. >> if you happen to have your feet in the water, do you feel it? >> i don't know we should take you out to a lake somewhere during a lightning storm and stick your feet in and see what happens. those are awesome. you get to get really close to animals. in this case at the berlin zoo, people got really close to the elephant, except they didn't like it so much. >> it's like mud. >> and it's all over that guy. >> oh, it's not mud. >> no. >> it's poop. >> is the joke on the guy or on the elephant?
9:43 am
>> i think the joke is definitely at the guy. >> the guy is only at the railing, not over at the top on the grass. >> it covered him and went from his head over his face, down his pants. it was everywhere. can you imagine being that person right now? >> no, because it's on his mouth. it's on his, like -- ew. the iphone 5 is out. lots of people are excited about it. camping out overnight to get one. >> exactly. >> it appears as though the banned promo for the iphone has leaked its way to the interwebs. >> we take updating it very seriously and that's why we only do so once every two years and the result is iphone 5.
9:44 am
>> clearing it up, because the iphone 5 really is what, the sixth generation? >> because of that whole 4 s. >> the iphone 5 is the thickest and heaviest phone we've ever made. >> can i say. >> of course we made it thinner and lighter. 18% thinner, 20% lighter, blah, blah, blah. are people so impressed by this? >> of course this is a parody. it's brought to us by the same group of guys who did the gentlemen's response. i like that they touch on the dumb things. >> in iphone 5 we updated the camera lens, cover. >> with this amazing display you feel like you can do more. you feel like you can do anything. anything you put your mind to, you can do. >> the 4-inch display. i can do anything. >> name something.
9:45 am
i'm going to do it right now. there's a dog on top of that roof. the fire department came, the police warden came, animal control came. they didn't get him off the roof. >> but someone did. see the unlikely hero who saved the day. and no ocean, no problem for these . they can still wake boe ghetto

criminals hitting up machines, this first one is from beaver creek, ohio. whotv got a hold of this video from a mall. you can see this couple. they're breaking into the vending machine. >> people are walking by watching what's going down. do they just have a real bad chocolate habit? >> they got the money. close to $200 they got out of the machine. >> i didn't realize there's that much money in there. >> it seems awfully easy. i thought vending machines are tough to get into. >> maybe he had the tool that you need. >> that's what police said, that guy knew what he was doing. but they believe this couple may be behind four thefts in all. let's hop over the pond and go to the uk where they caught that you are guys in another theft from machines. these were atms.
