strike the mission police station in san francisco. ktvu alex savidge is out there this morning with the demonstration that broke out hours after a police shooting. alex. >> reporter: the protestors were outraged by a police shooting a few hours before. they came here to the mission police station and vandalized the front of the building. spray painting the word killers on the front door. this is all part of a spontaneous demonstration that break out around 7:30 last night. eventually they surrounded the police station here where officers in riot gear were standing guard. when it was all said and done no one was arrested and no one was hurt here and the protestors were clearly focusing their anger on police after an officer shot a man earlier in the night. >> people see right through it. >> reporter: the shooting that sparked that demonstration

happened around 8:00 last night. plain clothes officers with the gang task force spotted two people they recognized as gang members. one of those members ran from officers and pulled a tech 9 pistol. officers ordered him to drop that gun. the armed man was hit twice taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. lye this morning in san francisco alex savidge. dozens of people also marched in south san francisco to protest fatal shooting of a teenager. coming up at 4:45 what the teenager's family wants to happen to the officer. gun violence in east san jose critically injured two men. police were called after a man was shot at flanagan drive around 10:20 last night. they found a second man with gunshot wounds nearby. we are told one of the man's injuries could be life threatening. san francisco police are trying to figure out what led

to a deadly accident overnight. that happened shortly before 1:00 this morning. police say a woman was driving on bay shore when she hit a man who was walking in the street. the woman is cooperating with police. the bay shore off ramp to southbound highway 101 was shut down for several hours. anyone who may have witnessed that accident is being asked to call san francisco police. a woman is recovering in the hospital this morning after being hit by an suv in san rafael. it happened on 4th street during the city's popular thursday night farmers market. the suv jumped a curb and crashed into a popular restaurant called lune de's. a 78-year-old woman was walking in the area and was hurt. >> fourth street was closed for several hours during the

investigation. the woman hit was take ton the hospital with serious injuries. the restaurant was closed so no customers were inside. time now is 4:32. the bay area will have to wait an hour longer this morning to catch a glimpse of the space shuttle endeavour. it flew to -- this morning the shuttle will fly over california one final time before retiring to the california science center in los angeles. endeavour takes off at 8:15 pacific time. it is scheduled to pass oaf the state capitol and then here to the bay area time around 9:30 this morning. >> the last time that we are going to get to see a space shuttle in the air. >> fog and cloudy weather could effect whether or not you could see endeavour. here are some of the best places to see it. a large crowd is expected at

to san francisco for a concert and a rally fundraiser. according to the bay area news group the october 8th event will take place at the bill graham civic auditorium. tickets range from $100 to $7500. new finance documents show president obama has $88 million available to spend in the final weeks before the november election. federal election commission documents also show his campaign spent more than $83 million last month. mitt romney has $50 million as he heads into tonight's bay area fundraiser. happening now thousands of bay area apple fans are waiting in long lines for the iphone 5. tara moriarty joins us now from outside the apple store on chestnut street in san francisco. how many people are out there? >> reporter: we have counted about 30 folks. some have been camped out since 10:00 last night. the guy at the front says that

here on 80 westbound. as you drive out to the mccarthur maze. no major problems. by the way, if you are driving on the bay bridge, it looks good. something very, very serious that chp wanted me to pass along to you. it's very important. you cannot stop on the bridge at any time. if the shuttle happens to be flying by or whatever is happening you don't stop on the bay bridge. it's not a stop to look up. it's very dangerous. keep on driving. find a safe spot to watch the shuttle endeavour. all right moving along to 280. that goes for any freeway. northbound 280 that traffic moves well. let's go to steve. i don't blame that guy. i wouldn't want to be on tv either. especially with high def. >> yeah. >> mostly clear. there is a tiny bit of patchy fog. most locations are clear. now again the fog can form in the next hour or two. it looks good to go for the

viewing of endeavour around 9:15-9:30. 43 napa. i do believe we will see other 40s popping up. north bay we will get upper 30s and 40s. there is still a component of a sea breeze. temperatures inland will start to come up. 60s, 70s, and now 80s popping up. low to mid 80s. doesn't take long to warm up. low that has been giving us all this fog is finally moving right there. it's way up there. it looks like it will move down into northern california. probably in the northern sacramento valley. sunny and warmer today after patchy fog here. kind of cool in the morning. forecasted highs even the coast will get in on the sunshine and 60s. still though it's more of an inland warmup today. mid to upper 80s. few locations will be in the upper 70s and low 80s that have been stuck in the 60s or 70s. mostly sunny. does look like a windy pattern develops. temperatures going up a little bit and down some.

antimuslim film. at least 25 people were injured in this protest. pakistan's government declared today a national holiday and encouraged people to protest. it also blocked cell phone service to keep people from using phones to set off bombs. it's been two years of fighting but now thousands of u.s. troops are heading back home from afghanistan. the 33,000 troops that president obama sent to fight against the taliban packed up millions of dollars of military equipment at a base in kandahar. that now leaves 68,000 american forces still in the war zone. back here in the bay area a former san francisco human rights commissioner is back behind bars this morning on child pornography charges. 66-year-old larry brinkin was arrested after finding graphic photos on his computer. he was arrested back in june but they did not file charges saying they needed more time to

investigate. he retired from his city post in 2010. time is 4:44. dozens marched the a gas station to protest the fatal police shooting of a teenager. >> jail the killer cop now. >> yesterday would have been derrick gain's 16th bit cay. he was shot by a police officer in june. recently completed investigation cleared that officer saying the shoots was justifiable. gains ran from the officer after the officer knocked him down gains gun fell to the ground. >> mr. gains looked over at the firearm which was only about a foot away from him and at that point he began reaching towards the firearm and then the officer knew what he would not have enough time to subdue mr. gains. >> derrick should not be dead and this police officer panicked when he shot derrick. >> police say the gun turned

out to be broken. the firing pen was missing. the officer involved in the shooting is back on patrol but derrick gain's family say they want the officer prosecuted and are pursuing a lawsuit. the donations were being elected at blue sky veterinarian high school for memorial fund for kyle nolan. he was a sun of one of the veterinarians and killed last month in peru. the hospitals office manager says the box was stolen bay woman that came in yesterday morning to make an appointment. she identified herself as helen burgess and gave a fake phone number and address. >> we try to do something very nice for dr. oswald because she has been my friend for a long time and somebody would have the unbelievable, no conscious, no nothing to steal it.

>> the office was planning to take the money to a bank next week. they now hope to generate more donations. prosecutors in the aurora movie theater shooting are dropping what could be a key piece of evidence in the case. they are hoping to see the notebook that james holmes sent to his therapist days before the shooting. prosecutors could still likely get access that notebook later on. in another new development in the case, the sheriffs department released a new booking photo of james holmes. in this picture he looks a lot different. he has short brown hair. hostments is facing $holmes is facing -- holmes is facing 152

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. in overnight news the contra costa county sheriffs office is in facing a shooting in the top of roe day owe. investigators are not saying much about the case but the victim was in grave condition when air lifted to the hospital. deputies taped off the scene and brought in danville police and a dog to try to find the gunman. san mateo police are joining the effort to find a retired firefighter that went missing during a cross country train trip. the department says they are sending two detectives to colorado to help search for charlie dowd. the 69-year-old was on his way to chicago to visit his son.

investigators say he may have fallen off the train. search crews are focusing on a 160-mile area between colorado and nebraska. it's 4:52. people that work at yosemite national park could soon be tested for the hantavirus. california public health officials want to survey workers to determine whether they were exposed to that deadly virus. they reported yesterday that three workers experienced flu like symptoms and were tested. health officials say while initial tests came back positive a second turned out negative. nine people have been infected with the virus. three of the cases were deadly. the exact cause for the outbreak is still under investigation. if you have some unwanted soda in your home, today is the day to trade it in for healthier option. santa clara county officials are holding a soda exchange program. anyone who brings in unopened cans or bottles of soda will

get free foot and vegetable vouchers. the exchange goes from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. it may be a bit more difficult to find parking around the bay area today. several cities including san francisco, oakland, and san jose are celebrating parking day. that is the global event that allows people to take over metered parking spots and turn them into small spots. anyone can participate as long as they feed those parking meters. all right we'll have new parks around town, sal. but if they don't feed the meter what gets the ticket? >> i guess whoever is sitting there enjoying the park. in fall we don't get too many of those. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza westbound traffic is moving along pretty well. today is the last full day of summer. steve will have more on that. it is kind of for all intensive purposes fall already. there is no major problems on 680. there is a minor crash. it is not causing a major delay. 4:54 let's go to steve. thank you. mostly clear skies. temperatures will be cool to not too bad. there is just a patch or two of fog on the san mateo coast and around the city. but not a lot. 40s for many. very chilly to the north. little cooler toward redwood city. still a westerly breeze in place for some. nothing compared to the last couple of days. yesterday though temperatures warmed up. doesn't take long. but you can see 80s coming back. pushing back toward the west. 60s and 70s for everyone else. probably wednesday was the coolest day. there is a big discrepancy in our forecast model.

it will be sunny and warmer. one forecast model drops a piece of this low on the bay area which would give us a significant cool down. the other two send it to the north. sunny and warmer. chilly morning. forecasted highs anywhere from 60s, 70s to upper 80s for some. after patchy fog, viewing of endeavour i don't see any problems whatsoever. thank goodness it wasn't on wednesday when we had that fog. i'm leaning toward the forecast model that is cooler. that is why i dropped off temps on sunday opinion pam. thank you, steve. shell oil is stepping in to clean up some waterfront property it used to own in oakland. people that live in condominiums have complained about a strong oily smell. and they can see hundreds of feet of boom. the property developer signature at the eschew area went bankruptcy before the cleanup was complete and
