good morning ann. >> reporter: good morning. there are hundreds of people here they brought their chairs and their cameras. and they are settling in to witness a bit of history. this will be endeavour's final flight piggybacking on a specially modified boeing 747. it will fly over the golden gate bridge and do a low pass over the nasa researcher and continue south in los angeles placed onpermanent displays at the california science center. a crowd gathered by moffett field even though the flight is hours away. they say this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. if fact, one man drove from virginia to be here. >> it's a very meaningful dayp there will be a lot people that will never forget this. and, i will be one of them. >> reporter: there will be speeches, displays and a count down to the flyover which should happen sometime between 9:45 and 10 a.m. live at moffettfield, ann

clouds. >> thanks and we will have continuing coverage of the endeavour and we will be live at criyy -- chrissy field and you can watch the fly overon ktvu.com. time is 7:03. a police shooting in san francisco's mission district that sparked a late night protest. ktvu alex savidge at the mission police station and you've been out there since 4:30 and they are cleaning up the damage caused alex. >> reporter: and the damage has been cleaned up here. the protesters last night they were angry about what ended up being a nonfatal police shooting. after it happened, protesters took to the streets and ended up vandalizing the mission police station and officers all morning as you can see over here, have been keeping watch out in front of the station throughout the night. early this morning, city crews came in and cleaned up the graffiti. some spray painted the words killers on the front door of

the station. this upon stainous -- spontaneous demonstration broke out last night. several marched through the streets and one point they came and surrounded the station and there were officers in riot gear standing guard at that time. during the protest, someone spray painted the police station itself. no arrest endeded up being made and no one was hurt but anger over the shooting was evident. >> do something corrupt and evil people can see it. people see right through it. >> reporter: that demonstration was prompted by a police shooting that happened around 8:00 last night. just a few blocks away on 14th street near van ness, plain clothes officers with a gang task force were chasing after a man they thought was a gang member. police say that man pulled out a tec9 pistol and officers told him to drop the gun but police say he raised the weapon and that's when a officer opened firech the man holding the gun was hit twice by gunfire and taken to the hospital but we

camping outside apple at&t and sprint and verizon stores here in the bay area. some brought camping gear and some have been sitting in line since monday. now in new york city, apple customers filed through this long line to get the prized position. the life weaved through metal barricades in front of the main store in midtown manhattan. fans what chance to test it out were asked what's so great about the phone. >> super fast. the first thing you notice is it's light, you know. i have the 4g and it's way lighter. and even though you don't feel that it's bigger because the form factor is good. >> now there have been complaints specifically about the lack of google maps. that's no longer an option on the iphone 5. the new apple maps feature a lot of users are saying is not as good. prices -- prices frank 199 to $649 without a contract.

it's going to be a long friday morning commute for some people. especially on 880. sal. >> reporter: you know, it's starting off okay. we haven't had too many incidents. a couple problems out there. start off with 880 as you mentioned. the traffic is moving along pretty well here as you pass the mission boulevard -- i am sorry 880 passing the coliseum. northbound all the way up to downtown, when you get to the toll plaza there is a delay there backed up beyond the 880 overcrossing getting into san francisco. no problems on the bridge itself. now, i was mentioning mission boulevard because there's a crash southbound 680 at mission heading to fremont. we haven't had major problems associated with the crash. and in san jose, northbound 101 slowing near 280 and near 880 but the other freeways 280 and 85 look pretty good. 7:09 now steve. >> mostly clear out there. a few high clouds coming up from the southwest. but that temperature will start to come up a little today.

new york post he reportedly said i am quoting the statute of limitation is passed and i can say yes, he did it. but kaelin is telling tmz.com that he was misquoted. and that he only thinks o.j. simpson committed the murders. 16 members of an ohio amish community are facing a long time in prison after being convicted of federal hate crimes. prosecutors say the leader forced his followers to shave the beards and cut off the hair of amish people who left his group over religious disagreements. the court ruling came after more than 4 days of deliberations. each of them now face possibly 20 years or more in prison. it is 7:18. new this morning, from mexico, three gunmen were killed in a shootout with police near the texas border. mexican authorities say the gunmen fired shots at police who were searching for escaped prison inmates. mexican officials say jailbreak

was organized by a drug cartel. apparently with the help of some prison employees. u.c. berkely is hiring new counselors to help undocumented students on campus. university official created new halftime counselorring position to give academic support and resources for financial aid and legal assistance. the campuses first undocumented student program coordinator started this fall. right now there are 200 undock uteed -- undocumented students on campus. if you have to fly in or out of san francisco international airport this weekend, you better expect delays. the airport once again is going to close down one of the main runways. this time the crews will be installing new runway lights. they are working on a new taxiway. the work begins tonight 10:00 and it will continue until monday at 8 a.m. the fog burn off in time for a clear shot of the endeavour flyover.

[ chef ] ma'am [ male announcer ] progresso. you gotta taste this soup. 7:21. prosecutors in the movie theater shooting cease are dropping the efforts to obtain what could be a key piece of evidence. they were hoping to see the notebook that suspect james holmes sent to a psychologist days before the shooting. but now they say it would move the case along faster if they dropped that request. if holmes attorney use an insanity defense prosecutors would get access to the notebook later on. in other new development the sheriff department released a new booking photo of james holmes and he looks different.

chrissy field. this is one of the best spots to see all the action. the fog burned off. so we are anxious to see if it put the schedule back to the original track or somewhere close to it. officials have decided to delay the flight over the bay area by an hour. so the fog would have time to burn off. the shuttle, which will piggyback on a specially modified boeing 7 47, is set to take a low altitude pass over the golden gate bridge around 9:30 it's supposed to take off around 8:15. on its way, it will fly over parts of southern california, and then north to sacramento near the capitol building. the space shuttle he ever do you ever -- endeavour is one of the retired orbiters of the space shuttle program constructed for the replacement for challenge gar named after chaims cook ship. at 9:30 look -- after james cook ship.

happening now, the count down is on to the doors opening and crowds of people rushing in to get their hands on the latest iphone. we are keeping an eye on the lines around the world and pam cook is in the newsroom with the glimpse at who are the people who are willing to wait. pam. >> reporter: well, when apple's latest gadget comes out, people are willing to camp out and be one of the first. this is is a scene outside the store in san francisco's marina district on chestnut street. we talked to the people out there who have been there since 8:00 last night with people who are making a job of it. some are getting paid to wait in line for someone else. and another guy hoping to make some money today. why are you here? >> to get new iphone. >> reporter: how many? >> two. >> reporter: and what are you going to do with them? >> sell them and keep one for myself. >> reporter: he is going to have competition i checked ebay and there are a lot of iphone 5s available but the bidding starts at about 900 dollars.

blackberry says the outage affected millions of users but laughed less than three hours. last year, more than 50 million blackberry users around the world were affected by an outage that lasted for three days. time 7:33. three san francisco police officers still out on disability this morning after having a severe reaction to poison oak. it happened earlier this month during a struggle with a homeless man who attacked police with a large tree branch in golden gate park. police say 39-year-old william degan was violent with the park ranger who was citing him for illegal camping. that's when he attacked the ranger and the police. he was arrested and faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon. san mateo police have join the search to find a retired firefighter who went missing during a cross country train trip. police are sending two detectives to colorado to try to find charlie dowed. the 69-year-old was on his way to chicago to visit his son.

yesterday on the road. but today, things are getting much better. things are much better. let's go out and look at some of the commutes i don't want to mislead you it's slow and there's backup at the toll plaza. but it stretches as far as the 880 overcrossing and there's crowding on 880. but looking to the left, it's moving. that is look at 880 yesterday. we had a terrible commute here after a truck accident. it's nice and clear getting to the oakland airport trying to catch a flight is not that bad. if you are driving this morning in the south bay, northbound 280 and 101, slow 280 north bound and so is 101 especially into sunnyvale and a lot of crowding near the nasa ames center there in mountain view because people are showing up to see the endeavour flyover. so please, gib yourself time -- give yourself time and be patient in that area. 7:37. steve. >> thank you kindly. a few high clouds around coming up from the southwest. patchy fog most of it is very

coast. that's the thickest. there are areas of low clouds but there are breaks in the parts of the bay by 9:30, 10. most will start to burn off but it could be tall order on the san mateo coast and marin coast and patchy fog and if a few high clouds from the southwest. the low responsible for the weather this week is moving to the north. but it's kind of putting into the weather. still i think unless you are right on the san mateo coast where it's going to be tough to get the fog to burn off it will be mostly sunny and we will be good to go. 40s, 50s and very cold readings in the north bay upper 30s and 40s. you can see our low moving to the north. a little piece of that is going to dive into the sierra nevadaly the sunday and monday and gives us wind here but could be showers up in the sierra late sunday into monday. for us fall begins tomorrow morning. it will be sunny and warmer cooler breezy and windy sunday and monday. >> okay. time 8:28. what happened overnight that shut down a freeway off-ramp for several hours. more on the crash out there and why the driver is now being questioned by police.

ktvu tara moriarty is live with more on getting a really good look at it from there. tara. >> reporter: yeah, that's what the folks are hoping to do. there are dozens of people here that are lining the walls and out on the beach there. we are expecting to see the endeavour around 10 to 10:15 over the golden gate bridge. photographers are on the rocks and there are quite a few folks who got up early this morning to set up towels along the wall andgrab the front row seat. shuttle which will peggy back on a modified 747 will make a low at tiewld spas over-- altitude spasover and will circle twice. it took off earlier and will fly north to sacramento around 9:30 near the state capital and head over our way where chrissy field is an excellent advantageage point. todd woke up at 4:30 to catch a piece of american history. >> i watched them take off on television but i never seen one

and since this is going to be last one that's ever going to fly maybe it's something pretty for me it's spectacular. it's exciting. >> reporter: now the space shuttle endeavour is part of nasa retired space practice and a lot of folks say it's bitter sweet moment as they bid a fond farewell to the replacement. so at 10:15 look to the skies a couple great places to watch from including the bay area discovery museum and sausalito and in oakland and the explore toreium in san francisco. and moffett field will have endeavour fly over that area but we are not sure what time so we will keep you posted. the best vantage point is right here at chrissy field and we will be carrying live coverage here of the endeavour so stay tuned around 10 to 10:15 come back and join us. tara moriarty. >> all right. next month endeavour will

up. they have advised people on the roads to keep your eye on the road an though you have the shuttle flying over you if you are strike it's -- driving it's best to be careful and sal joins with us an update on the commute. what's going on on the road. >> reporter: that's right. chp can give you a citation and people along the golden gate bridge on the bay bridge it's going to fly over our area at about 9:30 on the golden gate bridge. so, you want to make sure that if you are there to see it, don't be driving. plan ahead and don't make it unsafe for other people driving on a the roads. so let's go outside and take a look at highway 24. some improvement driving up to the tunnel. no major problems. also this morning's commute is going to be busy at toll plaza but has improved quite a bit. it was backed up for a half- hour delay now it's down to about 5. and this morning, the slow traffic continues on 880 southbound nimitz freeway. it's been slow there which is slow also on northbound 101 in san hoe hey into the -- san jose in the south bay now to

sadness of seeing it get retired. >> reporter: to give you an idea of where endeavour will head and when, nasa official estimate it will leave after 9:30 and head towards the bay area. and it will pass over the golden gate bridge and san francisco landmarks. and then head down 101 towards moffett field. it will likely be here sometime between 10 and 10:15. live at moffett field ann rubin ktvu2 news. 3 san francisco police officers are still on disability this morning after having a severe reaction to poison oak. it happened earlier this month during a struggle with a homeless man who attacked police with a large tree branch in golden gate park. police say 39-year-old william degan was violent with the park ranger who was citing him for illegal camping. that's when he attack the raker and -- attacked the ranger and police. he was arrested and faces charges with assault with a deadly weapon.

the white house also announced plans to speed up the permit and review process for the downtown san francisco ferry terminal expansion. in colorado, prosecutors in the colorado movie theatershooting case are dropping efforts to get what could be a key piece of evidence. they wanted to see the notebook that the suspect james holmes sent to a psychologist days before the shooting. now they say it would move the case along faster if they dropped that request. if holmes lawyers use an insanity defense prosecutors will probably still get access to the notebook later on. in another new development, the sheriff department released this. a new booking photo of james holmes as he looks now. looks very different. in the new photo the one on the left, he has short brown hairinstead of the bright orange hair on the right you saw in the first booking photo. holmes is facing 152 charges in connection with that shooting

on july 20th. 12 people were killed and 58 others were hurt. 10 minutes before 9. san mateo police are joining theeffort to find a retired firefighter who disappeared during a cross-country train trip. the department says they are sending two detectives in to colorado to help search for charlie doud. he was on his way to chicago to visit his son and investigators say he may have fallen off the train. search crews are focusing on a 160 mile area between colorado and nebraska. this morning sheriff deputies are closely watching a santa rosa middle school war threatening note was found. a cuss -- where a threatening note was found. a custodian found the note before class at willow middle school. deputies were called but a search of the campus didn't turn up anything. the school stayed open but some parents decided to keep their children home. deputies say the note contained disturbing comments but didn't give specifics. the warning if you live in

police are searching for a woman accused of stealing a donation box at the blue sky veterinary hospital in roaneard park. the donations was for a memorial fund for 18-year-old kyle nolan. he was a son of one of the veterinarians and he was killed last month in peru. the office manager at blue sky thinks that box and the $1,000 inside was stolen by a woman who came in yesterday morning to make an appointment. the manager says the woman that eye didn't fied herself as helen burgess and gave a phoney phone number and address. >> it seemed unreal that someone would do that. i didn't think there were people out there that would do such a horrible thing. >> the office was actually planning to take the money to a
