680 is that it's obviously a very busy freeway. you may want to use 580 instead as an alternate route. we'll let you know more about that. let's get some pictures up here. this is a look at interstate 880 the traffic is moving well in all directions here. they did not do the road work overnight there. so traffic is doing well. westbound traffic is also looking good as you come up to the bay bridge toll plaza on interstate 80. coming up on 4:30 let's go to pam. >> thank you, sal. we begin with breaking news of a police shooting investigation in hayward. shell casings could be seen near a police car at tennison road where an officer shot a suspect just before 1:00 this morning. it happened minutes just before another shooting outside the dirty bird bar which is less than a mile away. tara moriarty is out gathering

more information on the officer and the suspect shall have a live report coming up. in overnight news antioch police are investigating a fatal shooting on sycamore drive. police received calls a man had been shot and was lying in the street. police say he was 30 years old but have not released anymore information. neighbors say there have been a lot of shootings on that street in the past and the easy access to weapons is part of the problem. >> it's the guns and easy access that 14, 15-year-old boys are getting easier than a candy bar. >> police say they do not have many leads to go on. they are looking for the persons or persons responsible. we have a reporter on that scene as well. this morning police are searching for a driver who knocked down part mccarthur

boulevard. the power is on in the area. the wires have been removed and that road was reopened. san francisco police will hold a town hall meeting to talk about the public's concern surrounding a recent police shooting. the meeting is set for 11:30 at the corner stone church. it follows last thursday's police shooting on 14th. police say four officers were in the area and saw two people they thought were gang members. when an officer tried to talk to one of the men, he ran. police say the suspects began to raise a gun at the officer that is when police shot and injured the suspect. now the shooting has sparked several protests in the mission district. on friday night demonstrators threw paint and smashed windows at banks and stores. they also threw red paint on the doors of the mission police station. back to breaking news this

morning police from earl east bay agencies are investigate hang officer involved shooting. tara moriarty you just spoke with police on the scene right? >> reporter: yeah we have just spoken with officers on this scene. and from what we were ail to gather there was confrontation between a hayward police officer and a suspect. that suspect is now dead. if you take a look behind me there is this gas station. it is just riddled with bullet holes. we believe that is the suspects car and the orange barriers that you see there we believe those are covering up his body. we are near tennison road and mission boulevard where the shooting happened. police are not releasing many details. we understand the officer is okay. a crime scene technician was examing evidence inside the police officers a car. a full scale investigation is under way. now according to witnesses the gunfire first started around

the corner from here at a bar called the dirty bird lounge. he heard a beerage of gunshots around 1:00 this morning. we counted at least a dozen shellackingsings on -- shell casings on the ground there. they were interviewing some of the bar patrons. we have hayward pd here. bart police and union city. again this intersection here will be shut down for much of the morning while police continue to gather evidence. we will keep you posted as soon as we hear more information from hayward about this particular case. live in hayward i'm tara moriarty. happening tonight a community meeting in richmond to discuss the chevron refinery fire. the august 6th fire sent more than 16,000 people to the hospital. tonight residents will hear from county health represent is, air quality officials, and environment fall protection agency. the meeting will be held at the

theyed a an under cover agent contact him through a dating website and set up a meeting at the cal train station. they found methamphetamine, ghb pills and scales in his san francisco home. >> unbelievable. i'm shocked. >> shocked. he's a principal of a school, you would think he would if doing better. >> reporter: since lewis' arrest they have placed him on administrative leave. we are told he was involved in the antidrug dare program here. he is charged with offering to furnish drugs, possession, and possession with intent to sell. we have been told that letters will be sent home to parents today to explain what happened here. he will be arraigned in court this morning on those felony drug charges. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. a homeless camp that was

cleared out in san francisco may be cleared out again today. it's on 4th and king streets. the coalition on homelessness say homeless people living there have received two notices to leave the camp. it will be cleared out at 8:30 this morning. oakland wide receiver darrius hayward bay is in the hospital this morning. the home crowds relief that hayward bay was able to raise his right arm and give a thumbs up as he was carted off the field. the raiders will hold a press conference this afternoon to update his condition. the raiders did win the game 34- 31. 4:37 is the time. time to check in with sal. hi sal. >> hello, pam. good morning, to you. we have a mostly good commute. we have the fatality accident on 680 southbound.

so this is southbound 680 right there where i have drawn the circle there just past 680. fatal accident involving a pedestrian that happened just before 4:00 a.m.. now we do have a crew on the way to this, but one of the things you should know is right now if you are driving through the area now, most of the southbound lanes are blocked. 680 is going to be okay until you reach the 580 interchange. that is when they will divert you on to westbound 580 and ask you to use foothill. that is what chp just said. if you're on 580 driving through let's say you drive from livermore to castro valley it will not effect you but it will if this crash stays out there for a long time. this is a look at the east shore freeway. no major problems heading out to the maze. and the morning commute looks pretty good at the bay bridge toll plaza. of course it is early so you can get a pretty decent start to this mornings dry.

also on 280 that drive looks good getting up to highway 17. at 4:38 some fall weather, steve. still too warm for me. i want that first cold front. you know what i'm saying. there are signs it looks like a very quiet week. we had that system yesterday. we got the clouds yesterday. but it was muggy. kind of humid. by the coast you're like what are you talking about? it's in the 60s. coast today will stay about the same. there is a little bit of a fog out there. inland temps will come down. saw travis west at 21. so some morning clouds, fog. it will be a little cooler and breezy. mid 50s for others. there is a little component of a sea breeze. you can't see it here because i didn't plug it in. there is our system -- where did it go? drops in behind that high pressure. i think we will get a little northerly breeze on the coast. still, we start off with

good morning. well some fog out there. it will be cooler today. temperatures 60s and 70s inland still some 80s. federal investigators are trying to sort out who knew about a bypass pipe used at chevron's richmond refinery. they launched a criminal investigation earlier this year. that is after bay area air quality district inspectors say they found a pipe inside the refinery that routes hydro carbon gas around hydro pollution. gases flaired from that pipe at least 27 times without monitoring. >> we are awaiting the results of an epa investigation that will look at whether this conduct was intentional or negligent. >> chevron says the pipe was for balancing pressure but regulators did not buy that

explanation and fined the company $170,000. the epa investigation is not related to last month's refinery fire. turning now to election 2012 republican nominee mitt romney has harsh criticism for president obama in a new campaign ad. >> fewer americans are working today than when president obama took office. it doesn't have to be this way. if obama would stand up to china. >> the ad goes on to say that the president allows china to steal american ideas and that he's weak when it comes to protecting u.s. interests in china. now the president is defending his foreign policy record. he listed accomplishments on 60 minutes such as ending both the war in iraq and the threat from osama bin laden. parking light meets with world leaders at the united nations today. he will address the u.n. general assembly tomorrow. both candidates square off in a foreign policy debate on october 3rd. pakistan's government is trying to distance itself from a bounty being offered for

killing the maker of that antiislam film. the $100,000 reward being offered by a government minister is not officially sanctioned. they say he will pay for it out of his own pocket. at least 49 people including the u.s. ambassador to libya has been killed in violent protests over the film. time now 4:45. breast cancer researchers have a new way of qualifying one form of the disease that could lead to better treatments. oncologists say one type of breast cancer called triple negative might respond better to a nontaxic -- ripple negative tumors make up more that 10% of breast cancer and more common between african american and younger women. let's go back to sal to check in with traffic. how does it look? >> it doesn't look good in one particular area. and that would be in

pleasanton. this is a fatal crash in pleasanton just past at 580 interchange. you can see all the lanes are open. as photographer chip turns around here, you can see no one is getting by. what they are doing is they intercomming down and forcing there is a detar debt seth up. this is a pedestrian fatal accident and the investigation continues. this happened at about 4:00. we are about 45mys into this. it will take a little bit before this is wrapped up unfortunately. this is just really one of the busiest corridors of the bay area here at stone ridge drive and 680. let's move along and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. i want to say one more thing about that. we have a reporter on the scene that will be with us in about 15 minutes at the top of the hour to give us a report from the scene. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza it's light.

that traffic looks good. 4:47 let's go to steve. >> sal southbound or northbound? >> that is southbound. our system came by yesterday. it looks pretty good for sierra well up to nevada. muggy 40s and 50s right now. temperatures they will probably cool off a little bit. overnight low will get a little cooler. westerly breeze. it will be a little cooler today if vacaville gets to southwest at 9. the low it's dropped in is out of here. on the backside of that we will see a little more of a westerly breeze. some of that fog seems to be getting chewed up down to sonoma county. sunny and breezy today. slightly cooler pattern. more of a westerly breeze. forecasted highs inland temps come down five degrees. but there is no howling sea breeze yet. back into the 80s for some. 60s and 70s coast and bay. looks like a quiet pattern to

 we are following breaking news out of pleasanton. interstate 680 there has been affair team accident involving a pedestrian on 680.

they have shut down 680 southbound from the 580 interchange. they are forcing drivers to use a different way. they are forcing most drivers to either use 580 west or eastbound and do have a little detour set up at the first westbound exit past 680. they will lead you around that. what you should know 680 is closed heading south. it will be a big delay for those of you coming out of san ramon and heading south. you may just want to plan your own way around it and avoid this area. again northbound 680 getting bay we'll have crew on the scene. >> thank you. we also continue to follow breaking news out of hayward this morning where a police officer shot and killed a suspect. this is a look at the area of tennison road and mission boulevard. police are not releasing many details. we understand the officer is okay. now you are looking at the police shooting came right after another shooting at the

dirty bird door. that is just less than a mile away. a man is fighting for his life after being shot several times outside a san lorenzo market. it happened at the save right market on kent avenue. the victim was approached by a group of men and after an argument several shots were fired. the suspects took off. the victim was rushed to eden medical center with life threaten injuries. police have made an arrest in a recent child abduction case. a man tried to kidnap a nine- year-old girl near park elementary school. bradley mrozek has been arrested in that case. he linked him to two other cases. time now is 4:53. more than 1700 freshman start classes today at stanford university. they will be the first class to take a general edu class.

they will be required to take thinking matter courses. the university also plans to add other requirements. requiring students to take a certain number of classes outside their major. hoping to get giants playoff tickets? the pickings will be slim and the prices will be high. season ticketholders have had the first crack at the tickets. they will also hold a playoff ticket drawing. other fans will have to buy tickets from a season ticketholder or be ready to shell out the big bucks. >> we probably spent about $500 for two tickets if we could get them. >> how much are you willing to pay? >> $1,000. >> tickets range from $100 to thousands for premium seats. team president said only 700 to 8,000 single game seats will be available for each game. that series begins the first weekend in october. the a's still have a shot at winning their division.

they begin a four-game stint against the rangers today. they trailed the rangers by four games. now oakland beat the yankees 5- 4 yesterday to stay in front of the angels for the second wild card slot in the american league. the angels are 2.5 games back of the a's. the nhl and the players association meet this morning but they won't be talking about the lockout. instead they will talk about last years hockey related revenue. today's sit down marks the first meeting for the two sides in nearly two weeks. the last meeting ended with a stalemate on revenue sharing which led to the current lockout. 4:55 is the time. very big problem in pleasanton. let's check in with sal. >> you are right. interstate 680 we have a crash that has blocked all the lanes. it's a fatal accident. 680 is investigating. this is right near the 580-680 interchange and for all intensive purposes we are just

we'll keep an eye on it. i've seen 21 miles an hour travis. this low will continue march south. on the backside of that we'll see a gradual warmup. it looks slightly cooler today. morning fog. i'm more of a westerly breeze. 60s and 70s and 80s there. still pretty warm yesterday. 90s out in livermore. they will come down a little bit today. santa rosa down considerably a little bit. 64 in the city. oakland 72. not much changed coast and bay. very quiet pattern tuesday into wednesday. does look a little warmer thursday. we'll continue that theme into the upcoming weekend. there is a sad loss at the national zoo in washington, d.c.. a giant panda cub has died six days after his birth. zoo keepers say the cubs mother was in distress yesterday. that is when they noticed something was wrong. early findings on the cubs death are expected to be released today. coming up next in our 5:00 hour we'll have more on two
