change the momentum. this could be a slide for romney into it. the other side had a different thing to say, and who made the argument that is more believable across america? carl cameron has been listening from the spin room tonight. people said the democrats have to get on track after what happened last week. do you see a game changer? >> we saw a very feisty joe biden and a debate that was filled with interruptions and a tremendous amount of passion. he cannot to try to reenergize the democratic base in the wake of the president's lackluster performance a week ago and he was clearly on offense. but it was mixed with an awful lot of his smirking, expressions of exasperation and a lot of interruptions. that will get a lot of criticism and review in the next couple of days. and how one behaves can overshadow what what actually says. in the case of paul ryan, he was

before. >> ronald reagan -- >> the gloves come off in tonight's vice presidential debate. you saw it. things got heated between the vice president and the man who wants his job. good evening. i'm julie haener. >> welcome to a special edition of our news. this was a very different debate compare to the first presidential debate. with congressman paul ryan and job job fighting it out in their first and only debate of the election season. we have live team coverage. rita williams is with bay area republicans. rob rortsdz is with the democrats. we begin with the high and low moments from the debate. >> there were questions about whether joe biden would come out more aggressively after many said president barack obama failed to live up to expectations last week. we certainly saw that tonight as both the vice president and paul ryan went back and forth first over iran seeking a nuclear weapon. >> it makes us more weak.

their man definitely has won and has kept the momentum going that mitt romney started when he bested the president in their debate last week. in a nutshell, i don't think biden advanced their cause because of his surely attitude and his out right lie on libyan force security. ryan is being patient but he cannot overwhelm how rude joe biden is right now. >> he's more concise. he's more red sent. joe biden is just spinning his wheels cause they have a pretty good feeling that they're going to lose in november. >> he keeps on the subject and he is not playing any name calling games. he's being very very controlled and very who will point. >> you listen to ryan, he's clear, precise. he knows what he's talking about. i don't believe joe biden. >> ryan is staying on target. he's staying with the facts.

square off. the party is hosted by the organization technology for obama. democrats say a lot of riding on tonight and that joe biden came through. with president barack obama's lackluster performance in the last debate supporters were hoping the veteran biden would show energy and passion and in the process regain momentum from the republicans. they say he did. >> we're lacking for vice president joe biden to show his experience when talk to be representative ryan. vice president biden has done this before. hopefully he is not afraid to be fies ehopefully he can really get to the main talking points and show the people where we think the country is headed the next four years. >> he's clear. he's articulate. paul ryan, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have his facts together. he's been there, sew knows the behind the scenes, so he's really sort of giving us flow by flow what's been going on

sunday night at 5:00. right now in oakland the a's of fighting the detroit tyingers in game five of the alds. the winner moves on it to the american league championship series. if the a's advance to the al championship series, the owner says he will remove the tarps on the upper deck of the asylum. that means 11,000 more seats would be available for oakland home games during that series. more to come here in a moment including the weather. there is the possibility of some sprinkles.

a san francisco supervisor who voted to reinstate sheriff ross mirkirimi says she would now support a recall effort.

supervisor jane kim sent a statement to constituents today saying her faith in ross mirkirimi has diminished. she said voters have every right to recall ross mirkirimi as sheriff. ross mirkirimi returned to his job yesterday. the car of a missing mother from hollister was found on fire this morning. there is still no sign of 25- year-old heather carroll. she was last seen yesterday morning dropping her daughter off at school, then very early this morning her car was discovered engulfed in flames on enterprise road threnes two miles from where she was last seen. >> our concern was pretty high and with this new development, it's even higher. we're very concerned about the safety of this missing person. >> authorities are now examining the car lacking for clues. hollister police are also asking the f.b.i. and sheriff's department for help on this investigation. a serial arsonist in the south bay hit again overnight according to san jose fire investigators. this latest fire was in a

dumpster around 8:00 p.m. on tell manor lane. investigators say this is the ninth suspicious fire in the west san jose area over the past two weeks. so far the fires have been set in alleys and on side streets and no people or buildings have been damaged. thecourtage mainly in the southern cam call area and also out toward the sierra. you can pick out some showers just offshore. more activity mainly to our west. we do have to keep an eye on the chance after few sprinkles late tonight into early tomorrow morning. as far as temperatures from this afternoon, they were on the cool side mainly in the 50s to the 60s out there. so definitely on the cool side this afternoon. as far as the warm-up for tomorrow, not much of one with those readings mainly in the 50s to the low 60s.

we do have more cloud cover out there. chance of a few sprinkles. tomorrow pretty much the same deal first thing in the morning. the weekend more sunshine. overnight lows will be in the low to mid-50s. san jose 54, san francisco 52, redwood city around 53 degrees. cloud cover tonight the main shower band is heading to the south toward southern california. another weak system moves in for friday night. at least for tomorrow morning we're going to hold on to a few sprinkles, more cloud cover, partly cloudy in the afternoon hours. some sprinkles, chance first thing friday morning. decreasing clouds for friday afternoon that will set the stage for a nice afternoon. temperatures still on the cool side. 60s, warmingest locations around 70 degrees out toward antioch and brentwood, san jose 68, san francisco forecast high around 62 degrees.
