all right we begin with developing news in the south bay. san jose police are on the scene of a homicide. it was reported at 1:45 this morning at rogers and junctions avenue. matt keller has arrived on the scene and he'll have a live report coming up shortly. overnight news vallejo police are trying to surround the circumstances surrounding a reported home invasion. alex savidge is is at that scene where the investigation is just beginning. alex. >> reporter: vallejo police got a call from someone saying they were being robbed inside their house. this was late last night. apparently several men broke in and they were demanding valuables from the homeowner. everything started at 10:40 last night. officers from vallejo, american canyon came and set up a perimeter around this house to figure out what was going on inside. they ordered everyone inside that house to come out.

everyone did comply with those orders and three people eventually were detained once they came out of that house and they were detained for questioning. meantime the homeowner is telling police he didn't know who these men were that broke into his house and trying to rob him. >> there was no indication the individuals were armed, but from what the dispatchers could gather it appeared as though the individuals inside were demanding valuables from the homeowners. >> reporter: and things took sort of an interesting turn once those people were detained and the house cleared. at that point police apparently went no seek out a search warrant so they could go through this house for whatever reason. it's unclear at this point exactly what police were looking for. i do have calls into the watch commander earlier this morning to get exactly what that search warrant was related to. three people involved in possibly this home invasion robbery inside a home in vallejo. detained for questioning this morning. we are live this morning in

vallejo alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. six miles away solano county worked through the night to make sure a neighborhood was safe after explosives were found inside a home. the bomb squad detonated the explosives recovered at a house on georgia street. the blast rattled windows and set off car alarms. the incident began when acting on a tip police served a search warrant yesterday afternoon. police arrested the suspect after he came out of his house to check on the commotion. >> it's scary. i have a family. i have a kid. and it's scary to think that somebody was blowing up making home made bombs in their backyard. >> police arrested the suspect who was identified as a man in his 50s. investigators are trying to determine the reason behind the explosives. concern is growing about a

serial arsonist. that fire was reported just after 7:30 last night. this was the tenth fire in the area in the past two weeks. and the second in just 24 hours. no structures have been damaged. fire investigators are worried one of the fires could get out of control. anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the fire department. time now is 4:32. arson investigators have been called into a fire in san francisco's mission district. this is new video into our ktvu newsroom. fire was reported at about 2:00 this morning at an apartment building on fair avenue. we got a look inside one of the burned units. investigators tell us the fire started on rear stairwell but they have not said why it's being considered suspicious. no one inside was injured. now to election news this morning. vice president joe biden and his republican rival paul ryan took the gloves off in their one and only debate.

but i think a lot of the policy they forget about their religion. >> even this campus only about 50 students showed up to watch the vice presidential debate. there were plenty of empty seats. president obama watched the vice presidential debate on air force one as he was returning to washington from a campaign visit from florida. following the debate the president told reporters he thought joe biden was terrific and already called the vice president to congratulate him. mitt romney watched the debate at his hotel room in ashville, north carolina. the campaign spokesman said he called paul ryan immediately after the debate to congratulate him. on our website at ktvu.com we posted more video of last nights debate. look for the world and u.s. news tan right -- tab right on our front page. time is 4:35. another debate is making headlines after southern california lawmakers nearly came to blows. video of the near altercation

give yourself a little extra time. extra five minutes wouldn't hurt you. keep a little bit slower. make sure you are driving carefully on the damp roads. this is a look at westbound bay bridge. it is looking good. i don't want to miss lead you steve will be here with the forecast. it's not raining or anything. it is a little damp. i experienced that myself driving to work. let's take a look at san jose northbound 280 getting up to highway 17 that traffic is moving along pretty well. good morning, steve. some drizzle light rain, sal. the wrap around moisture from that low that pesky low continues to send in bands. the low is moving very slowly. but as it does, it's still wrapping back in clouds from the sierra nevada. a westerly breeze in place. it will be another cool day. 50s on the temps. again i don't think this will move hardly at all.

a weak little system right there is falling apart. but that will probably enhance a little bit of the drizzle late tonight. mostly cloudy today. light rain. we will keep some drizzle in the forecast and a few more clouds keeping the on shore push going. drizzle, light rain, breezy at times. if you can get a little bit of sun might eke out a 70. i think a lot of 250s and 60 -- a lot of 50s and 60s will cover the spread. and then just nice to warm early next week. >> thank you. at this hour the space shuttle endeavour is on the move. i want to show you live picture there is. why it has to take a nine hour break in the middle of its journey through the streets of los angeles. a story you will see only on 2. an update on moraga boy denied his eagle scout.

good morning. lots of cloud cover. it will be a mostly cloudy day. could be some breaks to the north. these clouds will keep temperatures cool today. new this morning just a few hours ago the norwegian nobel committee awarded its peace prize. the winner is the european union. they are receiving the award for the history of spreading peace, democracy, and human rights across europe. it comes as a surprise to some since the eu is wrestling with the biggest financial crisis in its 62 history. happening right now the space shuttle endeavour is making its way through the streets of los angeles. security escorting endeavour.

it slowly travels from lax to its permanent home at the california science center near the los angeles coliseum. the 12-mile trip is expected to take two days. endeavour will stop at a parking lot and have a nine hour layover as crews deal with power lines further ahead on the route. teenager accused of stealing a lamborghini is -- now they want to try to charge him with pulling a gun on officers that tried to arrest him in april. he's also accused of stealing the sports car belonging to celebrity chef guy see airy. several rose wards are being offered in the case of a missing mother from hollister. she went missing wednesday after dropping her kids off at school. yesterday her suv was found engulfed in flames but no one was inside. that has police concerned about

her safety. friends and family spent the night searching around the burned vehicle for glues. also today police in west minister, colorado could identify a body found near the home -- so far police are not making any connections between jessica's disappearance and the body found on wednesday. the fbi is asking people to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior. now here is a story you will only see on 2. a moraga boy scout denied the rank of eagle scout is gay is appearing on national talk shows this week. >> i'm so proud of you. i think you're an amazing young man. >> ryan andresen appeared on ellen after his mother posted

the -- we talked with him afterwards by phone. >> every time that a gay person is not given the same right at someone else that we are different and it's very, very hurtful. and it's not okay. >> ryan turned 18 on monday that now means he's past the deadline for becoming an eagle scout. but 175 eagle scouts around the country have pledged to send their own eagle scout pens to ryan. time now 4:45. in southern california a bitter congressional race between two democratic lawmakers turned ugly at a debate last night. youtube footage shows congressman brad throwing his arm around congressman howard's shoulders saying do you want to get into this? the challenge came while the two were arguing over a federal immigration bill. sheriffs deputies intervened and things calmed down.

the redistricting process has put the two incumbents against each other in the 30th congressional district. prop 35 on the november ballot plans to toughen for human trafficking. it will incross prison sentences and require convicted sex traffickers to register as sex offenders. fines would also be increased. the money collected would go to victim services and law enforcement training. supporters say the measure would be another tool for authorities. >> we thought we could make a very aggressive statement to prosecutors in the state by giving them new tools and we could better train law enforcement. >> it should not be passed by the voters. it will cost voters a lot of money to have these kind of failed policies challenged in court. >> appoints say the state -- opponents say the current trafficking laws are already working and a real solution is

not on the november ballot. california authorities face a new deadline to further reduce the number of state prison inmates. a federal court is ordering the state to have a plan to cut the number of inmates by january. the order says california needs to reduce the inmate population by 33,000. the eventual goal is to have no more than 110,000 inmates by next june. california says that goal will be difficult to meet because some prisoners sent out of state are now returning to california. the san jose police officers association says mayor chuck reed illegally transferred campaign money. he used money from his measure b pension reform campaign to make a $100,000 donation to council woman rose herrera's campaign. he said it was legal. a judge is expected to dismiss a discrimination lawsuit filed against the city of oakland by one of their own

officers. a tentative decision a judge rejected discrimination claims. long higher alleged he was discriminated because he was proclaimed to be a black muslim. but a judge said there was insufficient evidence. long higher investigated the killingover chauncey bailey. right now it's 4:48. i want to go back to sal to check in on traffic. >> all right, pam, good morning. we have a minor accident in vallejo. east 80. but it's not causing a big delay. moving along to the other side the east shore freeway coming west where most people are using it this way, westbound it's still looking pretty good from vallejo all the way to berkeley and to an uncrowded bay bridge toll plaza. you can see traffic is moving well right here and getting into san francisco. on the peninsula traffic on 101 and 280 off to a good start

with no trouble on the san mateo and dumbarton bridge. let's go to steve. thank you. a very happy friday morning. a lot of cloud cover again still wrapping around the low. it's moving. it's still giving us a lot of cloud cover and unbeneath that we have low clouds. the combination of the two giving us light rain and drizzle. temperatures stuck in the 50s. most will stay in the 60s today. you can see the northern edge of that system it's going to drag south throughout the day. that will give us probably a mostly cloudy day. i think we will see a little bit more sun than yesterday. really not that much warmer until we start tomorrow. then we will rebound on the temps. 50s right now for almost everybody. it was the same yesterday. there is a big low. lots of rain not only in california but into nevada. but we are on the western edge of it. it has two speeds slow and stop. mostly cloudy today as that system moves out. a lot of clouds. mostly cool. drizzle light rain.

especially to the east. some of the higher elevations as well. 60s on the temps. it was a chilly, cool day fall like temperature yesterday. a little warmer. the fog will burn off sooner. we'll continue that theme sunday and into early next week. a warning in the lake tahoe area. the big concern about chipmunks and the disease they may carry. also a new program toileted kids practice yoga in california schools. the reason some parents don't want it.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. time is 4:52. people in the berkeley hills are on high alert after a mountain lion scare. police say a wounded mountain lion was spotted wondering around mcmillan road. federal health officials continue to search for thousands of people who may have received contaminated steroid shots. 14 people have died. as many as 14,000 people may have been exposed to the potentially contaminated shots were given out starting may 21st of this year. california public health officials are sending out

warnings for people who visit a popular park in south lake tahoe. this comes after a chipmunk tested positive for the plague. the rodent was discovered near the entrance of the taylor creek visitor center. they are urging people who visit the park to stay away from the rodents and leave your own pets at home. 13 children are recovering from injuries in san bernardino county after their school bus collided with a u-haul truck. about 40 students were on the bus when investigators say the truck backed into its path. two students are hospitalized with serious injuries. 11 others and the bus driver suffered minor injuries. a new program is offering california kids the chance to take yoga at school but not everyone is happy about it. the program is funded through a private grant and being tried in theness knee that school

district. sal, you don't take yoga do you? >> no, i don't. no downward facing dog on this person. >> at least you know that. >> i do know that. good morning, everybody. maybe i should. but i watch baseball instead. let's take a look at the commute now. westbound bay bridge as you come up to the toll plaza. there are no major problems getting on to the bridge. the traffic looks good getting on to the span. and into the city with no major delays. also this morning we are looking at interstate 880 right here nearby the coliseum. traffic is moving well. you know the roads are a little damp. there has been light rain and showers. give yourself an extra few minutes if you can. and this mornings commute on 101 and 280 and on the peninsula still looking good. speaking of the weather let's bring steve in.
