crash that killed a 66-year-old man. an investigators say a 26-year-old motorcyclist hit him. both men were transported to the hospital where the pedestrian later died. the motorcyclist is expected to survive. traffic in the area of the accident was shut down for nearly six hours. firefighters in oakland are trying to figure out what caused a mercedes to burn overnight. the car was found on church street at around midnight. the car was completely destroyed. it is unclear if the car had mechanical problems or set intentionally. no injuries were reported. happening now. thousands are taking to the streets of san francisco this morning for the nike women's marathon. it as gorgeous and grueling course in the city that end in golden gate park. >> all the runners are going

behind you. hi, lorraine. >> reporter: good morning, claudine. there are thousands and thousands of runners out here. 20,000. they are taking off over here pore the nike women's largest marathon in the world with 25,000 runners who woke up early this morning. got on the race gear to run a half marathon or marathon and these go to the lymphoma society. olympic mad delist, she is out here running a half marathon. she will be celebrating her 40th birthday out here with a healthy start. you can see the runners taking to the streets. they are decked out in the running gear and it is a pretty course and starts in union square and that is all around downtown san francisco. you can see people with signs out here. with the cellphones and taking video. music is loud out here. there is a time clock that says

national league championship series. there is a a new twist with the refinery fire. a pipe ruptured back here. this is the chevron refinery and now they think corrosion may be to blame. state inspection documents show corrosion sparked a smaller fire at the same plant last year. the paper reports that two repineary workers complained and that was after the first fire and say chevron ignored the problem. they he protected employees after the fire and shutting down the area. and evacuating nonessential staff. >> heavy hearts in holster after a well-liked -- hollister after a woman was found dead inside a home. >> we come this evening to honor heather carroll. >> hundreds of people gathered for a sunset vigil to remember her life. 12 hour standoff led to the discovery of 25-year-old

heather carroll's body. this man david admitted to accidentally killing her when they got into an argument. she was reported missing when she didn't pick up her child from school and her car was found burned the next day. >> it is unbelievable that something like that could happen here. this town feels pretty safe and didn't know someone got killed. >> it is troubling. very troubling. but, i am glad they got the guy. you know, i feel sorry for the family. >> he was booked in the san bernard dean no jail and -- bernardino jail. police found more than a dozen shell casings scattered for half a block. no one was there when the officers first came. but two people who were suffering from gunshot wounds went to two separate hospitals.

santa rosa reporting half mile. and we are talking about the bridges this morning. sfo and it is fairly widespread out there. the downward motion of the high pressure again smashes the marine layer. anything left over from the week where we saw little bit of rain. all of that is smashed and pushed to the ground. 59 degrees in oakland. 56 in san francisco and mountainview. not as cool as yesterday morning. if you joined us yesterday morning, many of the valley locations slipped into the 40s. napa valley is 50 degrees. satellite and radar here. ridge of high pressure. and weak one beginning to build in. it will stay to the north of us. high clouds drift our way. that will be it and mid week, the offshore flow will actually begin to develop. that will bring us a bigger hike in the temperatures. >> take a look at the forecast.

presidio, and the finish line is over in golden gate park. this is a bus crash that happened just before 4:00 this morning t shut down several northbound lanes for about 90 minutes. that crash involved two cars and a large bus. it is still unclear how many people were injured. one victim was leading from his hand and had blood on his clothing. >> they said it arrested a woman who may be connected to a series of dumpster fires set over the last three weeks. they were all set on dell march manor lane. while staking out the area, they saw a 56-year-old woman lighting a fire in a garbage can. she was arrested will on the scene. they are looking to see if she is responsible for all the fires in the area. a woman and child were held had their home by a felon who was running from police. it gab in the area of west

system. one person we talked to described a recent incident. >> i am not usually home so i don't know when pg&e guys come. he stood on the porch and said there is a problem with your bushes. >> now, there were two similar incidents in san francisco last wednesday. in one case, a fake water worker conned his way into the home of a knob hill man and robbed him. police advised you shouldn't open your door to strangers and ask to see employee identification if workers do show up at your doorstep. >> they are asking for your help to track down a man who they say stole mail from several trucks. this is a photo showing the al edged suspect. there have been several reported cases of theft in the past week. >> anyone with information is asked to call the police department. >> in election 2012 news. president obama and mitt romney say the stakes are high
