outside of at & t park right now. you're ready for it aren't you? >> reporter: i'm ready. i got my rally towel ready. here at the ballpark the crews have been working overtime. the heads ground keeper said after monday nights game it brought the most amount of rain in the shortest amount of time he's ever seen. you can see they have the field covered right now with the tarp. the anticipation is building and in less than 11 hours 40,000 screaming fans will fill this ballpark. the giants and tigers have light workouts yesterday with batting practice. the field was painted with the world series logo. on the mound tonight will be barry zito verses the tigers justin verlander. many believe verlander is the best pitcher in baseball. the joints knee they have the -- the giants know they have their work cut out for them. >> everybody is in the right place right now. we don't want to go down 3-1 again. [ laughter ] but we know what kind of

determination it's going to take to win. >> reporter: nlcs margo scutaro will be one of nine venezuelans to be playing with the giants. that is the most ever. giants manager bruce said he was excited to give zito the news about starting since he has turned his career around. tigers manager joked telling verlander he is starting and he said okay. live from at & t park i'm tara moriarty. >> now bay area transit agencies are expanding their services for tonight's big world series game. bart adding extra trains to help people get to and from at & t park. the vallejo bay link ferry services is offering direct runs to and from the park all through the world series. and if trains are packed to capacity. they will add extra service as

needed. here's a reminder you can of course watch the world series right here with us on ktvu channel 2. our coverage of game one begins at 4:30 this afternoon. this morning two bodies will be removed from the wreckage of a plane crash in contra costa county. the plane went down in a field at marsh creek road and byron highway yesterday afternoon. one witness reports hearingth engine sputter then an explosion. at first authorities thought only the pilot was on board but several hours after the crash, they discovered a second body. we talked to a property owner nearby the crash site. >> as far as i know it's an experimental plane and out of nevada. i don't know who the gentleman was. >> still unclear if the plane had just taken off or was landing when it crashed. the coroner is expected to release the names of the pilot and passenger later today. we are learning new details about a suspicious and violent

crime in castro valley. alex savidge is joining us now. alex. >> reporter: good morning. this was a brutal crime according to sheriffs investigators. an intruder broke into this home behind us and attacked the woman who lives here. she was found beaten to death and investigators believe her killer then set this house on fire. all in an attempt to cover up the crime. this happened early last thursday morning. 58-year-old barbara was found dead inside the burning home on san carlos avenue. they believe she was killed bay man that broke into her house. and this morning the alameda county sheriffs office wants you to take a look at the composite sketch of the man that may have committed this crime. he's in his hate lathe teens and early 20s. he then stole the suv from this home. a volvo. and eventually left it abandoned a couple miles away from the house.

detectives say that could suggest the killer is still in the area and they need the publics help to identify them. >> this woman was brutally murdered in castro valley. we believe somebody may know or have seen this person may know what is going on. we encourage them to call us. and we are leaving no stone unturned. we will do our best to get this person into custody because they deserve to be in jail. >> reporter: the owner of this home is a retired san francisco firefighter. but investigators say he was out of town at the time of the killing on a vacation and they do not believe he had anything whatsoever to do with what happened. sheriffs office this morning though is leaving open the polt that the man they are looking for the man we showed you depicted in the deposit sketches. it's possible he did not act alone while committing this crime.

live in castro valley. new this morning we are hearing a man suspected of being involved in a deadly attack on the consulate is in custody in tee inertia. according to the daily beast he posted reports on social media shortly after the attack. they started tracking him after he left libya for turkey. he was detained in turkey and sent to tanisha where he is awaiting trial. so far u.s. officials have not been allowed access to him. back here at home new questions being raised about the alleged misuse of public money at the port of oakland. ktvu report discovered james quan reportedly spent $4,000 in port money at a houston strip club. now the san francisco chronicle is reporting that port executive director omar benjamin wrote his name on the

expense report. however port official -- spokesperson for the port says that is standard protocol. both quan and benjamin have been placed on administrative leave. a new poll shows the latest presidential debate did not effect voters of opinions of the candidates. 47% of the registered voters surveyed says president obama is 9 winner of the debate. 31% believe mitt romney won. the president's favorability rating only increased by one point to 57 percent. pretty much the same for romney as well. president obama and mitt romney are now on a campaign blitz with less than two weeks left until election day. coming up at 6:15 the record one of the candidates is setting today with his travel schedule. time now 6:08. as you get ready to travel this morning, reck the roads are

wet. sal is watching everything. including the east shore. >> that is right we are looking at the freeways trying to get into the main part of the bay area. good morning, to you. if you are driving on 80 westbound you can see how crowded it's getting. it's also crowded in richmond and parts of 580. if you are driving to the bay bridge toll plaza trying to get into san francisco, you will see slow traffic and traffic is busy because our camera is focusing in on the rain drops on the lens there. that will probably change when it gets lighter. also the morning commute is looking good on the peninsula. 101 and 280 no major problems here. but somewhat slow driving on highway 1 and reports of pretty heavy rain there in the area of half-moon bay and pacifica that whole area. drivers tweeting saying it's raining pretty hard. give yourself extra time. 6:09 let's go to steve. >> raining very hard, sal. half-moon bay over toward skyline, parts of the peninsula our observer said buckets and

buckets. it looks like it has gone through and some is heading south toward san jose and portola valley. kind of hit and miss little showers off toward fairfield, antioch, and then wrapping back into the east bay. the hayier ban is visiting san mateo coast and over toward most of the peninsula and a little over toward it looks like newark, fremont, and also milpitas. but the heaviest has definitely been from half-moon bay you can see on the backside of that heading down highway 1 heading south and also up along skyline and over toward los altos, palo alto, belmont. there comes little hit and miss showers popping up. still snow up in the sierra nevada. it's winding down. there is still a winter weather advisory out. but you can see there is our break there is. our observer steve bridges in the keys said one inches of snow. snow snowe is sticking everywhere now. 40s and 50s on the temps.

welcome back. voters in california may have a hard time knowing the actual voting records of lawmakers in the state assembly. now associated prez analysis -- press analysis of every vote cast during a 2012 session found more than 5,000 case where is state assembly members changed and added their votes to legislation after the fate was already determined. it's a long standing practice.

it's allowed if the changes don't effect the outcome. critics are saying that practice allows lawmakers to mislead constituents by changing their official record. with less than two weeks before election day, the presidential candidates are campaigning with new urgency. ktvu alison burns is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with how both candidates are picking up the pace. alison. >> reporter: pam. it's a strategy aimed at hitting as many swing states and voters as much as possible in the final days. here's a look at president obama at joint base andrews. he is heading to iowa. one of six states he will be visiting in woman days. this is his busiest campaign yet. the president is being more aggressive in his attacks against romney. he's also trying to be more specific about his own vision and he's unvailed a new booklet touting his accomplishments and second term plans.

for tests to come back from an outside lab before they processed orders on at least 13 occasions. so far 23 people have died. more than 300 have been sickened after taking drugs from pharmacy. public safety concerns could force a walnut creek light club to cut back on the amount of alcohol it serves. city staff report accuses the vice ultra lounge of violating the conditional use. city also says since 2009 police have responded to 30 fight there is and made dozens of arrests for public intoxication. tomorrow night the planning commission will review the vice lounges permit. man has been shot and killed in oakland just a block away from where another man lost his life last week. there was a homicide yesterday in east oakland at 107th avenue in meyers street. it happened at about 1:00 in the afternoon. last thursday night about a block away there was a homicide

on val tear street between 106th and 107th. no suspects have been named. time now 6:17. a new development in the discovery of what was thought to be a meteorite that was found in a novato backyard. at first mountain view scientist peter jenkins thought it was part of the fire ball that exploded across the sky last week that everybody saw. now he says he made a mistake. after a closer inspection, he how determines it's just a rock. the scientist is apologizing for that mistake. highway with the highest speed limit in all of america opens today. drivers can now speed down a 41- mile stretch of highway 103 in texas. you can go 85 miles an hour. now the highway is a toll road designed to take pressure off of interstate 35. it's between austin and san antonio. it will cost drivers 15-cents a

mile to put that pedal to the medal. 6:18 is the time. sal, i hope people are slowing down. we have wet roads. >> we do. it's not the best driving conditions. i don't think it will be as bad as the first day of rain we had. we will show slowing. let's go outside. i will show you live pictures of the commute you are dealing with. if you're trying to get into san francisco. this is interstate 80 through berkly. you will see stop and go traffic. it's also slow in richmond. speaking of oakland right in front of the coliseum traffic on interstate 880 in oakland is moving along pretty well. i think we have a live picture of that. no major problems here if you are driving south to hayward or northbound into downtown oakland. or to the oakland airport. on the peninsula we've had heavy rain. we had one of our observers tell us that the rain is coming down pretty well on the coast there. 280 and 101 may also be effected. just take it easy and slow it down on your way up and down. 6:19 let's go to steve.

anxious probably to get off of work to watch the world series. here's what they had to say this morning. >> the city is just on fire. the other day i was out until like 1:00 in the morning on mission street. everybody was out having a nice time. nobody was fighting. everybody was hugging and celebrating. and the city was alive. it was really fun out here. >> everybody excited. even the people that is not giants fans because you know it's a good feeling for the giants to be back again and it also bridge brinks a lot of revenue to the city. >> this is the best. this is the best. >> reporter: and as you can imagine a lot of fans are excited to get off of work today and go watch game one of the world series. as we take a look behind me the bill graham auditorium which is it will up in orange and black. talk about excitement as well. yesterday we were at the dugout stores selling the merchandise. they sold out on some of the nlcs shirts but they say they are getting new shipments of

the world series shirts. as soon as those stores open we will let you know. i'm sure those shirts will sell out like hot cakes as well. ktvu channel 2 news. >> we know the fans have world series fever and for some they've got to get the tickets. the problem is it costs a lot of money. we will take you to san francisco headquarters of stub hub. we will see how expensive those tickets are and how many is left. that is coming up at 6:45. if you don't have ticket for tonight's big fame you can watch it right here on ktvu channel 2. new this morning a mendocino county sheriffs captain is under investigation for his alleged role in a pot growing operation. it was launched after federal investigators confiscated 500 plants from a home owned by captain randy johnson's father. johnson owns the property. the sheriff is trying to determine how much johnson knew about the pot grow. he will remain on duty until the investigation is complete.

mountain view police are warning people who walk or bike the stevens creek trail to be on alert. that is after a man was almost robbed. janine de la vega joins us with a sketch of the suspect and new reaction from trail users this morning. good morning, pam. we have seen several joggers and bicyclists this morning using the trail. as you can see it's very dark out here. the trail is not it will at all. and when we spoke to them, none of them knew about this attack. now this was an attempted strong arm robbery and it happened here near elin avenue and -- evelyn avenue and highway 85. here's who they are looking for. he was wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball cap at the time. officers say last tuesday just before 8:00 p.m. the man in this sketch approached another man from behind who was walking home on the trail carrying a backpack.

he tried to grab the bag and the two men struggled and fell to the ground. the victim was able to grab his backpack and ran home and called police. people we spoke with are alarmed to hear happened. >> i kind of have that fear. . i feel someone may come out and attack me because you can't see where they are coming from. so i think about that every morning. >> reporter: even though no weapons were used, they are saying this is still an attempted robbery. they are concerned because it's a very unusual occurrence to happen here in mountain view and on such is a popular trail. and they want people who use it to be aware of their surroundings and give them a call if they find anything suspicious on the trail. reporting live from mountain view janine de la vega. time now 6:37. the future of the contra costa county fire protection district will be decided by voters next

month if a parcel tax called measure q is not approved the fire chief says four fire stations will be forced to close in january. six more could close by 2015. now if it fails, the board of supervisors will probably decide which stations to close when they have a public hearing in december. the $75 annual parcel tax needs a two-thirds approval to pass. historic san francisco schoolhouse can be rented on craigs list for $30,000 a month you can lease the former sacred heart school building in the lower haight. also it's zoned for school use only. 6:38 is the time. back over to sal who is watching the roads for us this morning. sal, how do they look? >> you know it looks pretty good out there. especially since it's been

to and from the ballpark. all through the world series. cal rain trane will add extra trains if needed. two people have now been killed in a plane crash as one is happening in contra costa county yesterday afternoon. this morning the coroner is expected to remove the victims body from the wreckage. this happened between byron and brentwood. the names of the victims have not been released. it's being called one of the most brutal killings deputies have ever seen. alex savidge joins us now in castro valley tex plain what we -- castro vally to learn about the fire we heard about. alex. >> reporter: good morning,. this was a vicious killing according to sheriffs investigators. they believe an intruder broke into this house here in castro valley that is just behind us in the middle of the night and eventually attacked the woman that lives here. she was found beat ton death and investigators believe the killer set this house on fire.

it was all in an attempt to cover up the crime. fire crews were called out to put out a small fire that was disclaired suspicious. 58-year-old barbara was found dead inside the burning home. investigators believe she was killed by a man who may have gotten into the house through an unlocked door or possibly a window. and now the alameda county sheriffs office wants you to look at the composite sketch of the man that may have committed this crime and still on the loose. he's in his late teens or early 20s. after using an accelerant to set the fire the killer stole a volvo suv from the home. it was eventually found abandoned a couple miles away from the house. here's how one of the detectives describes this crime scene. >> we're in the most violent severes we've ever seen in my term with investigation unit with the sheriffs office.

crimes like this touch investigators and because of that we will dedicate all of our time and resources to try to solve this crime. the homeowner here is a retired san francisco firefighter but he was out of town during this. that is the word from investigators this morning. the sheriff office says aside from the suv that was driven away from the home there were other valuables taken during this break in and the subsequent killing. they are not releasing any details on what was exactly taken opinion live this morning in castro valley alex savidge. mitt romney's campaign is distancing the presidential nominee from a republican senate candidate in indiana. that is after the candidates controversial answer to a question about a woman's right to an abortion if she is raped.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. numbers are up this morning. live look dow jones up about 22 points right now. warren buffet says no question. global economy is flowing. time now 6:55. santa barbara beach is closed after a deadly shark attack. it happened yesterday on surf beach. 39-year-old man francisco halvier was attacked by the shark while he was surfing. a friend of ours brought him back to shore and started first aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene. we've also learned that a man is being questioned in connection with with a killing of a mother and two small children in sacramento county. the children's father said he found his families bodies at his home yesterday afternoon. a six-month-old baby was found crying in a back room. but it was not hurt.

just hours earlier investigators found a white mini van that was missing from the families home. the suspected driver is in custody. san jose city council has voted to oppose a november ballot measure that would raise the city's minimum wage. it would increase the minimum wage to $10 from $8. businesses don't like it saying it would kill jobs. union leaders express disappointment and hope residents will pass the measure. apple fans want to be among the first to get the new ipad mini. there are a couple people camping out and they have a few days to wait. apple will start taking orders for the new and smaller tablet on friday and then won't start shipping them until next month. sal, can you take care of the folks on the east shore? >> that is right. we are, dave taking care of the traffic there. it will be busy as you head out to the crowded bay bridge toll plaza. backed up for a 20 minute delay at the toll plaza.

when i see that our schools are 47th in spending per student, i just can't accept that. our schools shouldn't be 47th in anything. proposition 38 bypasses sacramento, and makes education a real priority- with the funding, to our local schools and the accountability from our local schools... that we'll need to improve student learning in every classroom.
