i'm tori campbell san jose police have a manhunt underway for a violent criminal suspected of killing an innocent man and opening fire on police officers. alex savidge has new information this noontime. shows us the new sketch just released and the increase reward being offered. >> reporter: san jose police are searching for the man depicted in this newly-released sketch, wanted in connection with the violent crime wave across the city. investigators say he and his accomplice, jonathan wilbanks, shot it out with officers friday night. willbanks was arrested but his partner got away. >> we're very concerned which is why we're here enlisting the public's help in getting the suspect in custody, why we've been working around the clock. police have not been able to identify this man who may or may not be in san jose. this morning, the mayor announced his office is doubling the reward money in this case. there's now $20,000 being offered. >> we know that people know the

suspects. we know that somebody has information. >> reporter: investigators say this pair were behind a string of crimes including four armed robberies. >> reporter: police say while these two armed men were on the run, they tried to carjack a driver outside the 7/11 store. that man ended up being shot and kim -- and killed. there is a memorial outside of the store to honor rory park. >> really funny, really funny guy. just a good kid. kind of sad. >> reporter: while one man lost his life, two officers came close. these photos show how bullets threw through the windshield of the patrol car striking one officer's belt. >> an after being grazed, he continued to pursue the gunman. police say the gunmen at the center of this manhunt should be considered especially dangerous. top oakland police

officials are the target of criticism about misleading the public about court ordered implementations. the union claims infernal affairs -- internal affairs investigations resulted in unjust charges against officers over the mast several years. this all comes as the department faces a federal takeover. on december 13th. a, a judge will hear arguments about about -- about whether to appoint a federal receiver. a competency hearing is scheduled for the man killing seven people at oikos university back in april. a judge has been asked to derm if one goh is mentally competent to stand trial. last month, the judge ordered goh to be examined by two psychiatrists. the hear something set for 2:00 p.m. at the alameda courthouse in oakland.

a vigil has just wrapped up for michaela garecht. she is the young girl who disappeared in the east bay 22 years ago. lorraine blanco is live with more. lorraine? >> reporter: tori, michaela garecht was last seen in this grocery store parking lot 24 years ago. today her mother and dozens of others tied these yellow ribbons around this tree to remember her. in just a few weeks, they may finally have some sense of closure. ♪ >> reporter: robbie was just a baby when his sister was kidnapped from this hayward parking lot in 1988. around 10 a.m., 24 years ago today, the 9-year-old disappeared but today friends and family remain determined to finally find her no matter the circumstances. whether she's alive or not, we continue to love her always and

forever. hayward police say they never lost hope. in february, investigators found a bone fragment in a san joaquin valley well they think could be lanked -- linked to the case. results from dna testing are expected within weeks. >> regardless of the results of the testing of that fragment, i will probably still be here every year because i do this to remember michaela. >> reporter: and so will police. >> until we get those answers that everyone, everyone in this community has been hoping for for 24 years. >> reporter: the bone fragment is being tested at a richmond lab she says you don't have to remember michaela by tieing a yellow ribbon at this tree, she says you can tie a yellow ribbon anywhere in the bay area. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, lorraine. tensions keep mounting as

rockets continue to fly in the skies over israel and gaza. israeli air strikes struck several crowded areas in gaza today, killing least 11 people bringing the palestinian death toll to 94. hamas fighters have fired hundreds of rockets into israel including 75 today. one hit an empty school. at least three israelis have been killed since the attacks began last week. reporter sara sidner is in gaza where the attacks are becoming more deadly by the day. >> people are picking out things, anything they can find and if you look to your right, destruction, the building next to it blown out. and we are standing on what was the roof of a three-story building. >> reporter: israel has not ruled out a ground invasion of gaza, prime minister benjamin netanyahu says the israeli

military is prepared to escalate its operations if necessary. president obama is overseas in cambodia this hour. coming up in about eight minute, the importance of a visit from the first sitting president to that country. a two-alarm fire at a russian river resort sent four people to the hospital and knocked out power lines early this morning. the fire started around 3:45 at the guerneville lodge on river road. it took about 45 minutes to get it under control. the red cross was called in to help people who were staying at the resort. there's no record on the condition of the four people who went to the hospital. investigators are looking for the cause. a rare situation from muni. a surplus of funds. now there's a debate over the best way to spend the windfall. we've been following the story since "mornings on 2" and tara moriarty joins us live with the two options that are under debate. good afternoon, tara. >> reporter: good afternoon.

so is there enough food for everyone door they still need donations? >> reporter: they still need donations. you can see volunteers from sacred heart community services. they are handing out these holiday gift services that you -- workses that you see to needy families. we've seen a lot of smiles here today from people. they are just grateful for the help. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: volunteers are sorting and packaging all of the ingredients into these cardboard boxes put a meal on their table this thanksgiving. this woman works at mcdonald's and is struggling to support her family. >> i'm a single parent and i'm from check to check. it does, you know, the community -- this does really help out. >> reporter: there are many like her that need the help. these people sat shivering in the cold at 4:00 a.m. waiting for the doors to open at 9:00. some needed to register for the boxes. others wanted to get first pick of the blankets. waiting in line is a tragic thing. why people would wait overnight for even food, it just says the

level of need is driving people to do things that the rest of us hope we do not have to do. >> reporter: the staff here at sacred heart community service plans to hand out more than 4,000 holiday meal services. a week and a half ago, hundreds sat out in the rain and camped out overnight. the charity is still in need of turkeys. they are short about 600 and need more to get them through wednesday. the staff is hoping people follow this man's lead. this morning, i was watching the news and saw they were short on turkeys and decided to buy one on the way in. >> reporter: inside the box, a turkish canned footballs and -- a turkey, kand vegetables and fruit. >> i have a turkeysh -- canned vegetables and fruit. >> i have a turkey and i have to look in the box to see what else is in there. i'm gonna could my happy dance. >> reporter: sacred heart does not plan to turn anyone away.
