lots of cloud cover and a few light rain showers. the heavier downpours towards santa cruz. and a stormwatch coverage continues on ktvu.com there you can find our stormtracker 2 interactive radar and track the system as it moves along of just click on "weather" near the top of homepage. >> new video tonight after a cabdriver was stabbed outside of the macarthur b.a.r.t. station in oakland. according to oakland police a man and woman got into an argument inside a bart train around 7:15. the woman got off the train and the man followed in pursuit. according to veteran's cab company the woman got into a cab with the man following. at that point the cabdriver intervened. cabdriver ended up getting stabbed. another cabbie took him to the hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition tonight. the assailant escaped and there is no word on what happened to the woman. also in oakland people in two cars shooting at each other

led to the closure of a freeway on-ramp for more than two hours. after the shooting the two cars crashed near the eastbound edwards on-ramp to interstate 580. the two victims were taken to the hospital by a friend. their injuries are not considered life-threatening. the ramp was re-opened after 8:00 tonight, no arrests have been made. a 13-year-old girl is said to be in life-threatening condition at a san francisco hospital after she was hit by a taxi at nob hill. eric. >> reporter: jana just moments ago police told mel this girl was in town with her family from australia. now this sign says no crossing on this side of the street for a reason. you really can't see the cars coming up this hill until the very last-second and police say preliminary reports suggest that this girl ran into traffic

in this area. a dangerous intersection for pedestrians and cars alike. some neighbors say they heard the sound when a car hit a 13- year-old girl on pine street just west of stockton in union square. >> a lot of depressed people. >> reporter: this woman came outside of her apartment soon after the accident. police will only say that the 13-year-old girl was visiting from out of town with her family when she ran into the street and was hit by a taxi. >> i'm sick to my stomach. i am new to san francisco in the last five months and it's a new area for me. i am aware of the problems in that area and it breaks my heart having children of my own. >> she didn't even see the car until pretty much it was on top of her. >> reporter: tonight neighbors told us that intersection is especially dangerous because of this hill.

and despite the sign warning pedestrians we saw several people taking their chances. i saw you crossing where it says don't cross. do you do that a lot? >> sometimes when i'm in a rush. >> reporter: >> reporter: police say this young girl is still at san francisco general hospital with life-threatening injuries. police say this was not a hit- and-run and they have not said if this driver will be cited for anything. live in san francisco, eric rasmussen ktvu channel 2 news. a san francisco bicyclist was injured today when his bike collided with a muni bus. muni says the accident happened on geary near leavenworth after 2:00 p.m. cyclist apparently swerved to avoid an open car door. when his hand bars made contact with the, but the cyclist fell, but was not run over. as we hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. vallejo police announced a $10,000 reward for information on a christmas eve hit-and-run that critically injured a pedestrian.

. a police standoff in aurora, colorado today left four people dead including the suspect. a s.w.a.t. team stormed a home this morning after police say a gunman fired shots at officers. once inside the home, police say officers fatally shot the suspect and then found the bodies of two men and a woman. a fifth person escaped from the home. aurora is the same suburb where 12 people were killed inside a movie theater in julian a connecticut gun show went on an planned less than a month after the newtown school shooting. gun enthusiasted gathered 50 miles south of newtown. the show proceeded delight pleas from the mayor that the show be cancel out of sensitivity to the tragedy. protestersraled in ohio where a rape trial is set to

begin next month. protesters accused city officials of insufficiently investigating the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl. to protect the team's venerated football team. two 16-year-old football players are accused of raping the 16-year-old unconscious girl. the case is being handledded by special prosts and a visiting judge because local authorities have ties to the team. city officials said today there is no cover-up. >> the thought that everyone in steuben vilsacking or like the individuals that are involved in the case, the teenagers that we are a community that is run by football. that is not the case. >> the trial is set for february 13th in juvenile court. steubenville city officials launched a website about the case today and they say it contains facts to combat what they say is misinformation being posted on other websites. the new site was created after a video was posted on-line purportedly showing a young man

dragging old christmas trees down to the shore of horseshoe lake today. volunteers tied them together as part of a unique environmental project. the 700 trees were donated by vendors after they didn't sell during the holidays. now as the water level rises here they will sit at the bottom of the lake, providing a habitat for young fish, particularly bass and bluegill. >> it's going to create an artificial reef which will have algae on it, insects feed on the algae and small fish feed on the insects. >> this project is organized by the east bay regional park district. peter alexander saids me that the goal is to boost fish populations in this manmade lake park rangers have been collecting unused christmas trees and putting them into this lake for about the last 20 years. >> i thought it was very interesting and thought that that is neat that they can recycle and use this. >> reporter: these trees have a limited life-

this is the second federal grant the department has received in last year. you may have heard you will need money for the meter if you planning to park in san francisco tomorrow. from now on meters in the city will be enforced on sundays from noon until 6:00 p.m.. it used to be that most businesses were closed on sundays so there was no need for enforcement. the city says times have changed and businesses need those spaces now to ep up for shoppers. new yorkers are calling for subway barriers after two horrific attacks that victimmed were pushed to they their death. it's going to cost quite a bit more to attend the annual burning man festival this year. organizers say almost all of the 58,000 tickets sold this year will have a pricetag of

. a few dozen brave and well- trained swimmers completed the 4th annual alcatraz winter swim today. most performed the 1.5 mile feat without a wet suit. they say it's a thrill. >> i like the feeling that i can say i have done it without a wet suit. i don't know, it just feels great to me. >> so me it's sort of like the holy grail. if you are a backpacker you have to go to sierras and if you are a triathlon you have to go to iron man. here is a bit of advice the swimmers say the key is to be mentally tough and not think about being cold. >> that will make your voice squeaky, mark tamo checking in with the weather. you are a surfer, you are out in that water all the time. >> he was out there with a full wet suit.

[ laughter ] , hoods and everything. i was fully covered. for today we had the clouds and heavy rain across parts of the bay area and still, tracking some rain showers like now across parts of the state. here is a look at live stormtracker 2. it has been a very busy night for our radar system showing you the rain in the bay area and also snow up to our north. not much in the sierra, but snowfall developing towards the lake tahoe region later on tonight primarily into tomorrow morning with snowfall 3-6". here is the live doppler sweep showing the current rainfall apparent. the coverage has been on the increase except down towards the santa cruz mountains. scotts valley and heading over the hill, some rain showers around san josi, milpitas, sunnyvale and east palo alto. this one line approaching hayward to the west and some more activity basically fizzling out over parts of the

north bay, but still scattered showers. for the northern portions of marin county out towards petaluma as well. here is the heaviest rainfall heading out of brentwood, centered closer to stockton and tracy. santa rosa picking up nearly .43". so approaching .5". san francisco .25" and concord .20". san josi just a few hundredth, but we're adding to that number right now. as far as overnight lows, scattered showers still a fairly good chance as we do wake up and temperatures maybe mainly in the upper 30s to 40s. san francisco 46. and san josi starting out the day, 42 degrees. here is the weather system that we have been track. the first one of the year. and right now we have this area of low pressure basically just drifting offshore. tonight we're going to hold on to scattered showers and even
