the baseball hall of fame ballots are in with the results that has not been seen in 17 years. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. decision came down one hour ago and barry bonds will not be inducted this year into the baseball hall of fame. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live now with a look at how

many vote esgot and what happened to the other -- votes he got and what happened to the other players. >> reporter: barry bonds only garnered 42% of the votes. bonds isn't alone no one made it this year and that has not happened since 1996. now, many say this is a clear rebutte to the steroid. bonds, clemens and roger clemens all denied big yowas close topping the ballot with 68% of the votes. he fell 39 votes short. now, bonds hit a major league record, 762 home runs. he run an unprecedented mvp. clemens won seven cy young awards. boat finished their careers amid steroid allegations. steroids were not banned at the

stakes as they investigate the theft of a valuable artifact from the orlando museum of california. claudine wong -- from the oakland museum of california. claudine wong has the new details on the reward that's on the table. >> reporter: it's been in this museum since the 1960s giving people a glimpse into the gold rush. >> it was a wedding anniversary gift from a san francisco pioneer to his wife in the 19 -- in the 1800s. it was created by a san francisco gold smith artisan. >> reporter: that is until monday when someone snatched it. oakland police would not release a picture citing the ongoing investigation. all we can tell you it's 7 by 9, about the size of a shoebox. it's gold with images of california on the box. >> this is a theft not just on a valuable object but the theft of the history and the heritage of our children. >> reporter: it's the second time this has happened. there was another heist in november. >> the museum believes in both

theft, the thief came through the garden. in both thefts, he came to this area in the museum. back in november, took an item in there and then from here and then on monday took that box located right there. >> reporter: two burglaries in two month, both when the methamphetamine was closed. both caught on video. >> there are striking similarities. >> reporter: police believe the same man is responsible, described as black, 5'9" to 6 feet, medium complexion with short, black hair. wearing a dark hat, dark shoes. a $12 hurricane -- reward is up -- a $12,000 reward is up for grabs. the chp arrested a man in oakland this morning after a short chase that began when an officer tried to stop a car that came back as stolen. the chase ended on fruitvale avenue near logan street when the driver crashed. officers say he then ran from the car but didn't get car before the officer took the man into custody with the help of

some bystanders. investigators say the man was already on parole for car theft. the arrest came as part of a chp program that recovered 141 stolen vehicles in oakland last month. we're learning new details about the case of a petaluma teenager who died in south lake tahoe over the new year's holiday. investigators say 19-year-old alyssa byrne had taken off her ski jacket and became disoriented while walking. she was found near a snowbank on friday. she had attended a music festival over the new year's holiday and may have been trying to walk three miles in freezing weather to her hotel in stateline, nevada. authorities will try to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in her death. we're getting new information on the oil tanker that struck the bay bridge. tom vacar joins us from san francisco with the barning the war pilot got from the coast guard just before the tanker hit the tower. tom? >> reporter: yeah, indeed. in fact, the ship now remains

at anchor where it will stay at anchor until the coast guard releases it. we know that initial interviews with the pilot captain and crew members are concluded. alcohol tests were negative. drug tests are still pending. technical analysis and review of all records are ongoing. finally, the coast guard vessel services says audio recordings will show that the coast guard warned the ship before the collision. now, the ntsb is investigating 39 marine -- has investigated 39 accidents in the u.s. only two have been in california. the first in 2007 when the container ship cosco busan hit the bridge and in 2009, in san diego, when a small coast guard vessel collided with a small boat killing a small child. considering the massive amounts of traffic moving through the bay and the ports in la, long beach and san diego, that's an

enviable state record. we're -- >> we are having some technical problems with tom's report on the situation with the tanker hitting the bay bridge tower, something the coast guard continues to investigate. the oakland fire department is investigating a morning house fire. it happened just before 6:00 at 1415 pampas avenue. this is video from newschopper2 to thes say everyone got out safely. pg&e must adhere to a new pipeline safety regime due to the san bruno gas explosion settlement. the contra costa times reports the utility will have to calculate a minimum safe life span for pipes. so weak ones can be replaced before they become dangerous. the settlement also requires an undisclosed amount of compensation for relatives of two victims. 44-year-old jacqueline grieg and her daughter were among eight people killed in the 2010

disaster. president obama is expected to nominate his white house chief of staff as the next u.s. treasury secretary. jack lew has extensive public and private sector experience including budget director for presidents obama and bill clinton. he's also known for his thorough knowledge of the federal budget. an announcement is possible before the end of the week. stip college of san francisco is hoping for a deadline extension to maintain its accreditation. the school has until march 15th to come up with a plan to fix financial problems. but officials say there are some issues that will require more time to work through. the school has already made several changes, including the hiring of more experienced leaders and improving its budget management. today, san jose planners will decide if the location of a newly approved charter school plan fits with city goals. council members gave their approval yesterday for the rocket ship education charter element school on lick avenue.

it would also provide a park and a playground for the area. some residents are opposed to the plan saying it will create traffic problems. a ferry carrying hundreds of commuters crashes into a new york pier. and get ready for a big drop in temperatures and some wet weather. ktvu's meteorologist mark tamayo will tell you when you can expect it to hit your neighborhood. >> reporter: it's a fresh, never frozen meal being served at a school.

dozens of people continue to recover after a commuter ferry carrying hundreds of passengers crashed into a pier as it docked in lower manhattan. brian flores is in the newsroom with the latest numbers on the injured. >> reporter: good afternoon. the latest is there are at least 57 people injured. two of them critically. we're hearing that one of those two people is in a very dire condition and may die as a result of the crash. the commuter ferry was on its daily commute from new jersey to lower manhattan when it crashed as it was trying to dock at pier 11. at the time, the ferry was carrying about 320 passengers.

it can carry as many as 400 people. many of those passengers were reportedly near the exits and on stairwells. many passengers say they were thrown onto the deck of the boat. some slamming into windows, seats and even each other. this morning crews set up a triage near the ferry and many suffering minor injuries like cuts and bruises. others suffered head and neck injury. here now passengers describe the ordeal. >> i was actually sleeping. i -- all of a sudden we just hit, boom. and people were catapulting forward. it was a big bang. all of a sudden my face was in front of me -- was in the seat in front of me. >> it was a sudden crash. everybody standing fell forward. people in their seats got thrown forward. >> there's also a 2 to 3-foot gash in the starboard valve of the vessel.

they recently updated the propulsion system. emergency personnel, however, say they are focused on the victims. >> we had about 150 firefighters and emts and paramedics. nobody was in the water. everybody was on the boat. officials with the ntsb are sending and 11-person team headed to new york to exam be the boot. the crew was administered drug and alcohol tests. so far, the alcohol tests have come back negative. >> the drug tests may take weeks. they've canceled two ferry services as a result of the crash. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. hayward police are boosting patrols in certain neighborhoods because of a spike in crime. authorities will focus on north hayward, especially around a and mission boulevard. they say burglaries and robberies increased in the area late last year. the department has had success using the same tactic in other parts of the city. the city of antioch is closer to banning medical marijuana

stocks edging up after alcoa kicked off the earnings season with better-than- expected revenue and taking a live look at the big board, the dow is up 48 at 13,377. the nasdaq is also up 14. s&p up 3. two people were rushed to the hospital overnight after two separate attacks in san francisco's potrero hill

neighborhood. the first attack happened at 1:45 a.m. a man was shot in the foot on connecticut street. less than two hours later and less than a block away. another man was stabbed three times. police say the incidents do not appear to be connected. both men are expected to survive. in richmond an overnight shooting sent one man to the hospital. it happened just after 2:30 a.m. between 6th and barrett avenues. police say the bullet hit the 27-year-old man in the lower torso. he was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. disneyland is cracking down on park visitors who abuse the multi-day pass. disney says park employees are taking photographs of all visitors with multiday passes and anyone using the pass on a different day, must match that photo. they started to buy the passes at discount prices and then they started to rent vem to individuals a at pro of the.
