in raids looking to take criminals off the streets. tara moriarty joins us now with word that today's effort was part of the ongoing operation cease-fire. tara. >> reporter: that's right. these raids were a part of an operation called cease-fire. it is basically an effort to get guns out of the hands of gang members and the chief says you know basically in response to the surge in violence we saw over this past year. now, this morning ktvu was the only crew to be on scene for two of the six raids that went down. they stretchd from santa cruz to el sobriente. we were there when they zeroed in a house there. then again on 43nd and telegraph. the entire scene, that is several automatic firearms and gang par paraphernalia linked to that. he said this was a follow up to a conversation he had with three gang members to stop the killing. >> this is a promise i made to you early last year we will

have a relentless pursuit and follow up to people committing violent acts in this city and this the first of many actions we are going to be taking throughout this year to reduce violence in oakland. >> now in all officers detained seven known gang members and right now they are trying to figure out if they will be arrested and charged. >> i wish we could have got in more evidence but what i am pleased about is these people involved in gang activity involved in the violence know we are not asleep at the wheel and definitely looking at the individuals and trying to bring closure to some of these open cases. >> they along with them helped execute the warrants and jordan says gang leaders were warned opd meant business and the violence had to stop. some members did turn their lives around. others were targeted today to see if they kept that promise. paul chambers will have more at 5:00 tonight. live from oakland, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news.

>> all right, tara, thank you. a former death row inmate accused of killing his own mother is due in court this afternoon. police say dennis stanworth admitted to killing nellie turner stan worth in their home this woke. he is a convicted killer convicted of that. but his sentence was changed when they did away with that. he was released on parole in 1990. police in free monte in fremont say that was the first homicide of the year, they found it there then. two hours later a 27-year-old man showed up at the police station and turned himself in. investigators say he also handed over the gun used in the killing. both the victim and the suspect live at the home and they were related. they have yet to release a motive. police say they are searching for at least two men who held 14 people hostage during a robbery at a clothing store. police say robbers stabbed an employee and sexually assaulted

another during the four hour long hostage stand off at a nordstrum rack, they entered then and held them at gunpoint. hours later a swat team stormed into the store and discovered they had fled. the frightened hostages were found huddled together. >> the majority were in one location, a storage room in one of the -- one part of the -- the store. >> police believe this car may have been used as the get away vehicle. it was found abandoned in neighboring culver city. new and disturbing information about the late british entertainer jimmy seville. a police investigation has uncovered a long list of sex crimes he committed. police say he committed more than 200 sex crimes including 34 rapes over more than half a century. most of the victims were children. the youngest was eight years old. investigators say they included patients in hospital beds,

teens and students at a school for troubled girls. the investigation was launched after 600 people came forward with information. it has happened again in palo alto, a man exposed himself to a woman. police say he was standing outside the fitness center there then when he exposed himself to a gym employee. earlier in the week a man exposed himself there a half- mile away. they think it is the same man. if you have information contact police. a family has filed a lawsuit against the nation's largest youth soccer organization. it stems from the child sex abuse conviction of the coach. authorities say he sexually abused a 13-year-old girl while volunteering for a local affiliate of that league. they report it accuses them of negligence saying that. he was sentenced for 15 years in prison after pleading guilty. now to our continuing coverage over monday's oil

tanker crash into a bay bridge tower. that tanker has left the bay. news chopper 2 was there as the tanker left at 10:00 a.m. and had been anchored there since that crash. they gave it clearance to life after completing interview,ed collection , evidence collection and that. it will do that. it may take several months. the hyl touted boeing 787 dreamliner jet has come to there. it landed and took of on the same day they will look at that. she joins us live from there where she has details about that. >> reporter: the dreamliner took off 5 minutes ago headed to there. there is a dark cloud over that because of their announcement

this morning. the boeing 787 dreamliner touched down for the first time on the tarmac at san jose international airport with a full load of passengers from tokyo, they are offering the flight, which is also the first direct flight there in the past years. >> this is exciting because it is the first, we need to be successful so we get others. >> they were greeted by that and that. but amid the celebration controversy surrounds it. in the last week it has experienced brake problems, a fuel leak and an electrical fire there. the secretary of the department of transportation and the faa announced they will be conducting a thorough safety review of that. regulators will look at the design, manufacturing and assembly of the plane. >> through it we will look for the root causes of recent events and do everything we can to ensure these events don't happen again. >> inside the airport there was

10:00 a.m. on the 1100 block of there in hillsborough. pg&e says a contractor hit a one inch natural gas line to a home. people who live in the homes nearby have been evacuated while crews work to cap that leak. health officials are forecasting a severe flu season in the u.s., prompting doctors here to advise people to get their flu shots now. the cdc says this season's on track to be the worse in a decade. so far california is still among a few states without widespread flu. bay area health officials predict the peak of flu season will hit california in the coming weeks. if you have not already done so doctors recommend getting a flu shot now. they say it takes up to two weeks to become effective. a total of 4 flu related deaths have been reported in the state this season. sad news to report, one of the famous san francisco twins has died. vivian brown passed away. she and her sister marion were

icons of san francisco. they made their rounds with that, smiling and posing for that. they moved there then. that would have celebrated that there then. a public memorial for the teen who died after a part there is set for tomorrow. the body of alisa burn was found behind the snowbank one week ago. the memorial will take place in a casa grande high school gym in petaluma. they are asking everyone to wear pink, her favorite color. a teen visiting there is shot and killed. now family members say they know what it happened. chilly temperatures linger, rosemary will be here with what you can expect. plus one school district making a change to its policy in wake of that school shooting there. ñmñz?cç?çñkñkñe-

a 17-year-old boy in the bay area to visit family and celebrate his birthday was shot and killed early this morning in marin city. police tell us they are still chasing down leads and have no suspects. as claudine wong reports the boy's family says they think they know why he was killed. >> reporter: search and rescue crews joined the hunt for evidence in an investigation that started after midnight. police spent hours in the dark processing the scene.

trying to figure out who shot and killed 17-year-old levonnal williams. his sister said she heard several shots and when he realized he had been hit she ran to his side. >> my brother and my uncle -- i felt -- take his last breath -- he died right before my eye -- they shot my brother in his head -- absolutely nothing -- >> williams sister says he has had a rough life and has been in and out of group homes and juvenile hall. but also insists he turned things around and this week had come from his home there down to marin city to celebrate his 17th birthday with his family. they say he didn't know anyone and didn't have enemies. they believe he was shot because of drugs. >> i seep him there, he was

coming to check up on me because there was stuff going on by my house. >> someone thought he took the stash of dope and took his life and he did not even take it. >> police tell us williams was shot two to three times and found at the base of these stairs feet away from the building where his mother, his three sisters and his brother all live. police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call. in marin city, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the alleged killer in the colorado shooting was set to be arraigned but that has been delayed until then. then the judge granted a motion to delay that until then. the decision comes one day after the judge ruled he should stand trial for killing 12 people and wounding 58 others. martinez school district is changing its security policy in the wake of school shooting. another new policy teachers must keep their doors locked during the school day and eventually district plans to add locks that teachers can use to secure the doors from the inside. >> in talking to the police

department what we determined was that anything you can do seen as a deterrent is one way to slow down an intruder if they are on campus. >> some administrators have suggesting adding school resource officers to campuss that don't have them. two families are suing the university of the deadly shooting rampage in oakland, several people died when he opened fire on the school campus in april. families of two of the victims filed a lawsuit there then. they say they should have known he posed a danger to them because of his previous disagreements with school staff. awaiting word on the sentencing of the youngest defendant in the gang rape of a stunt. s t udent. he pleaded guilty in connection with the rape. his plea deal called for 27 years in prison. he is due to be sentenced today there. a soul food restaurant served up a buffet with a

purpose this morning. the owners of the business there are facing foreclosure next monday after eight years there. they invited members to the breakfast to help them to urge them to do that. >> it became too much and we fell behind. we asked the bank to help us. they gave us several modifications that were set up for us to fail and that is exactly what happened. we have been failing. >> the owners say if they cannot refinance they will try to relocate their business somewhere else in oakland. a section of i-80 in berkeley was shut down for more than an hour overnight after a 4 car injury crash. the first vehicle hit the center divide near the arby exit. it spun out and was broadsided by another car, two others were tangled up in that. the driver of the first car was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition.

the dow jones up 16.36. there is word that could slow the u.s. economy further because the flu when it knocks people out of work it slows productivity and obviously raises healthcare costs. it is getting more expensive to rent office space there. new figures show it jumped 27% last year compared with the

same period a year ago. the average rent was almost 49 dollars per square foot. analysts say the high price may slow gains in the city as companies look elsewhere for more affordable rents. students, teachers and staff members at the city college of san francisco gathered for a rally this morning. >> ---school- >> the group is outraged over the response to the crisis that could shut down that college. this week they asked for a extension to solve its financial and management problems. school board has warned if it fails to show improvement it could have its accreditation revoked and shut down. the former san francisco niners owner is one vote away from the hall of fame. he is among the finalists named today for the hall of class. it will be determined then. other former 49ers on the list
