. good evening, everyone. i'm heather. >> i'm frank somerville. that boat tonight is a multimillion dollar sailboat and it is still stuck in shallow water. authorities say that's as far as three people got after stealing it from the harbor in sausalito early this morning. ktvu's eric is live with some incredible video of the entire ordeal and also the effort to save that boat, eric, that's still going on tonight. >> it is, frank. in fact, the man in charge of getting this boat out of here says it could possibly take all night long. i'm going to step out of the way so you can see it. that is the 82-foot darling. just beyond it is a landing vessel. we're told it's the first boat that's going to try to pull it out of the sand here in this

shallow water, in just the last half hour or so we got the names of the three suspects in this case. they were the people on board. leslie gardner, dario mirror and lisa mode well. everything changed out here today when the owner saw his boat on tv this morning and reported it stolen. >> straight from a $2 million luxury yacht into police custody, authorities in pacifica pulled two men and a woman off of the sailboat darling around noon. run aground in shallow water about 20 yards off of linda mar beach, it all started with a call about a boat in distress early this morning. at one point a diver with the coast guard threw a radio on toth deck to communicate with the three people on board but one man later shouted back he wasn't going anywhere. >> they essentially do not want their coast guard's help at this point. >> police say the darling's rightful owner called them when he saw his boat ton morning news. missings from its slip at the sausalito harbor, all that was left were the steps toth boat

more tonight at 6:00. we're live in pacifica, eric rasz mussenk ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man this morning. police respond today third street and blue avenue after several people called 911 to say they heard shots fired. they found the man lying near the corner with several gunshot wounds. two blocks away officer arrest add 22-year-old man running from the scene, and they also recovered a gun they believe might have been used in this homicide. they have not said what the motive might have been. the man accused of a fatal drive by shooting that ultimately killed three people on the las vegas strip made his first court appearance today in los angeles. 26-year-old amar harris did not speak or enter a plea. he was ordered to return to court next week so nevada officials could begin extradition hearings. he was arrested last weeks in la

after a week-long man hunt. it began with a shooting and crash that killed three people including aspiring oakland rapper kenneth cherry, jr. in las vegas. five others were injured: in less than two hours the los gatos city council is expect today hold a heated debate over the sale of guns in that city. the city council is set to discuss whether to adopt an urgency ordnance which would place a temporary moratorium ton sale of guns in stores. the issue was sparked after a store that sales guns opened shortly after the newtown school massacre in december. tem mrer sports has been the target of protests since then by resident who is don't want the store selg guns. we're learning more tonight about the man who died while competing in the annual escape from alcatraz try yat lon yesterday. 46-year-old ross ellen jer died about 7:30 in the morning during the swimming portion of the reyes. he was from texas. reyes officials say he apparently died of a heart attack after plunging into the cold bay water. the depth is believed to be the first in the 33-year history of that competition. this condominium complex was

to delay the park's spring opening because of those federal budget cuts that went into effect on friday. the usual openings of park entrance in april and mae will be put off one to two weeks. that's so the government can save money on snow clearing from the park's roads. nearby communities such as wyoming and west yellow stone montana anticipate they will lose money because of the late openings. the budget cuts are reportedly already causing delays at some airports. we went to find out if the bay area is feeling the effects. what we found in just 14 minutes. today vice president joe biden took a strong stand against iran's development of nuclear weapons. the vice president told a powerful pro-iz rail lobbying group that the president is not bluffing when he mentions military action and possibility in efts to stop iran. he was speaking toth american izraeli public affairs committee. >> we have a shared strategic commitment. let me make cheer what that

livestock in contra cost county. >> ktvu tried talking to a possible owner at a ranch in shen tral martinez, but they declined to comment. it's unclear whether these horses are the ones that escaped. as for the owners, animal service say they will continue to investigate. >> at this point, no one is in trouble although once we locate the owner we'll decide whether they'll receive an at-large criation. >> the incident did shut down the freeway off ramp for a short time, but it was oeched a short time later. ktvu channel 2 news. we have breaking news right now out of richmond where police are on the scene of a fatal shooting that happened late this afternoon. these are live pictures here from news chopper 2. you can see the street there taped off. this is happening at 6th street and pennsylvania avenue. police say the call came in about 3:40 this afternoon. officer found a 21-year-old man dead. they say that he was shot several times. witnesses say they saw two men running from the scene.

police have not made any arrests but, again, you see a lot of police on hand right now investigating, and that intersection looks like is closed as a result of this investigation. we are working to get more information from you from this as we do, we will bring it to you. the owner of a south bay restaurant is considering rebuilding after his well-noeven restaurant went up in flames. the happy hound has been on los gatos boulevard for more than 40 years. someone driving by just before 50k this morning saw flames and called 911. it took firefighters about 40 minutes to put the fire out. most of the damage was on the outside of the building. the owner says he intends to have the happy hound repair and had back open for business in a couple of months. >> i worked here all my life so it's pretty -- pretty tough, but it'll -- it'll be -- it'll be back and be better than ever. >> fire officials say the fire started at a storage area where there was a freezer plugged in. the cause of the fire is under

searching for answers to this rare and brutal homicide in their community. ktvu's robert honda joins us now live from the high school that is also preparing to mourn this teenaged victim. robert. >> right now we are at santa clara high school where the victim graduated just last year as a popular student and member of the football team. some students and friends are planning a candle light vigil here tonight even as family and police try to make sense of what happened. >> nancy bagel loves her brother and now she misses him. police say 18-year-old richard vega was shot multiple times last night while out on a walk near his home in campbell. he underwent emergency surgery but died early this morning. >> he did the best he could to be the best person he could possibly be, you know, with everybody around him, he had a huge heart. >> some neighbors say they heard the shooting. we heard two gun shots. i heard a guy say, "help me."

leaving lat mer avenue just after the shooting. the vigil by family and friends here at santa clara high was scheduled for tonight at 7:30. live in santa clara, robert honda ktvu channel 2 news. more now on the developing news from richmond where one person was shot and killed this afternoon. the call came in about 3:40 this afternoon. what you're looking at is the intersection here after 6th and pennsylvania. you can see a lot of police evidence markers there. those are the little yellow dots you see on the screen. this is not far from the richmond parkway and lucas park and playground. it is likely this area is going to be closed down for some time while police investigate. generally it takes a long time to investigate when someone has been killed. they have to go through all the evidence, looking where the bullets were and, again, a lot of evidence markers here. two people were seen runing from the scene. we are working to get more information. we have not heard of any arrests as yet, but, again, the headline of the hour here, one person shot and killed this afternoon in richmond.

as we get more information, weal bring it to you. the alameda county coroner identified a man whouz body was found floating in oakland a week ago yesterday but they still haven't determined a cause of death for 33-year-old bobby e. wilson. investigators say they're waiting for toxicology tests and that could take a few weeks. wilson was a tran sent whose body was found pinned under a dock. will be the title sponsor for the nascar sprint cup reyes next month. the reyes is to be known as the nra 500 and scheduled for april 13th in fort forth texas. the teal was announced today and comes as nra is involved in a national debate on gun violence. following the december school shooting masker in new jun town, connecticut. has sponsored nascar reyeses before. as the trial over the gulf oil spill disaster enters its second week one expert witness says bp knew the area was prone to earthquakes but drilled the

houston back in 1992, but agents and prosecutors determined no crime had occurred. also, agents found no evidence of criminal threats in fan mail to houston that was forwarded toth fbi in 1988 and 1999. houston, you may remember, drowned in a hotel bathtub in february of last year. new figures show federal taxes on america's wealthiest have hit a near 30-year high. the analysis also shows that while wealthy families are paying more in taxes, middle and low-nfk families aren't paying as much as they used to. according to the tax policy center the top 20% of wage earns will pay more than 20% of their income to federal taxes this year. that's compared to an average of 13.8%, a tax rate of that for middle income families. the average family in the bottom 20% won't pay any federal taxes at all. instead, many will receive tax credit payments actually giving them a negative tax rate of 2.7%. all right.

for two years at least. a second sink hole opened up today in a tampa, florida area only a few miles where a man disappeared when the ground suddenly gave way under his house. demolition crews were on the scene of the first sink hole tearing down that house and exposing the depression that is 50 feet deep in the earth. jeffrey bush was sleeping in the house when the ground began to give way thursday night. rescuers today said it was just too dangerous to go after him. his brother, though, says he believes more could have been done to save bush. >> my two-year-old daughter keeps asking where's jeff. let's go get jeff. let's dig jeff out of the hole. mommy, daddy, let's go home. i have no home to go to. >> the family placed mementos into the scoop of the heavy machinery and the operator lowered it into the hole where jeff bush will remain buried. well, the pipe that burst has now been repaired but the problems in this bay area
