coming up. we have a big problem in livermore. there is a big rig fire blocking a lot of the freeway. we have a crew on the way. let's take a look at live pictures. highway 24 westbound that looks pretty good as you drive out toward the caldecott tunnel. and in san francisco we're off to a good starlet along northbound 101. at 4:29 let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. topping our news bart police are investigating a deadly shooting right in front of passengers. it happened right in the middle of the evening commute at one of the exits to the richmond bart station. tara moriarty is there this morning with the search for the gunman. tara. >> reporter: we are on the mcdonald avenue side of the bart station. this is where the shooting happened right here in front of the bart station in front of the steps and this elevator you see right here. we want to show you this dramatic footage. we have a bullet hole. a put pierced this glass right

here. hit on another window on the other side. you can see all of the chalk markings on the sidewalk here. if we go around the corner. it came out right here out of this section and it grazed this part of the red column that you see. so a lot of shots ringing out and bart officers were armed with flashlights. they combed the area last night just after 6:00. that is when mass panic break out. bart passengers scattered when they heard that gunfire. the source tells us the victim was an african american man in his early 30s. he was walking out when two african american men shot him at the top of the stairs. one passenger just got off the train when she heard four shots. >> everyone ran to the back of the bart stations and people were scared. we didn't know what was going on. >> reporter: the shooting happened while it was still

very light out. passengers say they were in quite a shock. a source tells us the gunman followed the victim from a train but police don't know if they had been riding bart prior to the shooting. as of late last night the suspects have not been caught. we'll let you know if we hear anything from richmond police. coming up we will tell you more dramatic details exactly what happened right after the shots rang out. i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. concord police are investigating reports o after dog being shot with a bb gun. it happened just before 7:00 last night at a home an bailey road. they are also reporting that a teenager was seen shooting geese last night as well. this comes after a bus window was shot on wednesday nigh. police are investigating whether these incidents are related. later this morning search and rescue teams will continue looking for a missing man who may be disoriented.

mentally evaluated. police found more than a 1,000 explicit images on his home computer. coming up his drastic attempt for jail time. administrators are are trying to meet the accreditation timeline. students and faculty are demanding more input in the process. yesterday hundreds staged a march to city hall demanding support to avoid even more cuts to spending. they also want a parcel tax to voters. >> they ended up cutting all noncredit programs. especially the ones that students depend upon. >> today administrators plan to outline how they are dealing with all 14 accreditation

deficiencies identified last summer. not all were fixed but college administrators do hope their report will persuade the commission it's enough to upgrade their probation status. allowing them to continue to receive state funds. a final decision is expected in june. the san jose police department is getting ready to welcome new officers. more than 40 recruits will graduate from the san jose police academy. it's the first since 2009. it will be held at 1:00 this afternoon. ktvu has learned a former san francisco lab technician will plead guilty to a drug charge. that plea is expected in federal court this morning. the attorney for debra madden says a plea deal has been reached and madden will plead guilty to a simple charge of possession. madden was accused of stealing cocaine from a police station. the one way loop into

downtown is being put into place at 8:00 tonight. foothill boulevard will become a oneway street starting where jackson street and mission boulevard meet. from the foothill the loop will turn left on to a street and left on mission back toward jackson. the loop is part of the $100 million route 238 corridor repaving project. time is 4:35. turning out to be a pretty busy morning on interstate 580. how does it look? >> we do have a problem, brian, and pam. we have a big rig fire. i want to put it on the map for you. eastbound 580 at airway three lanes are blocked with this truck fire. westbound 580 is the commute direction but obviously this is going to have an effect even though it is nice and early. we don't have a big backup. we will keep an eye on it. also the morning commute looks good on the east shore freeway. so far so good as you drive out to the toll plaza and get on

into the bridge. there are no major problems in san jose on northbound 280 good start there. let's go to rosemary. good morning, to you. three hours until we get that sunshine. but we will seize the day. today we are looking at fog not as wide spread. i'm seeing it along the coastline and north bay valleys. half-moon bay reporting visibility to six. it will become a little bit more wide spread as we get closer to the sunrise. take a look at 7:00 a.m. we have a mix of low clouds. we have a mix of high clouds and the high clouds will continue into about noontime we notice just light milky look right over the bay area. that is going to actually pull away and into the afternoon. mostly sunny skies. a combination of high clouds for your afternoon. seeing a few high clouds you can see over the north bay. novato 44. 40 in napa. 41 for santa rosa. wide spread 40s to low 50s around the bay area.

the driver may have pushed the wrong kettle. diocese of san francisco will hold a prayer service for those torn apart by a car crash. his mother and brother were killed in the crash last saturday. prosecutors say dennis of sunnyvale crashed into their car. he has been charged with manslaughter, dui, and hit and run. boeing executives say they have finished one-third of the safety tests. they now say the dream liner should be carrying passengers again in a matter of weeks not months. boeing says it doesn't know what exactly caused the problem. the design would keep -- the head of the transportation security administration defended his decision to change what could be brought on board commercial flights. he told a congressional subcommittee allowing small knives and some sporting gear in the passenger cabin does not pose a major threat to an

who disappeared from the los angeles area last year. investigators believe 57-year- old gavin smith was the victim of a homicide. they say they found smith's black mercedes inside a storage facility. the storage facility has been linked to a convicted drug dealer who has been a person of interest in the case. smith was reportedly having an affair with his wife. a former web producer for a sacramento television station has been indicted on charges with working with the group anonymous. matthew keys is accused of providing anonymous with pass words for the website. time is 4:47. the competition between facebook and twitter is about to heat up. the wall street journal reports that facebook is about to adopt one of twitters most famous features the hash tag. mash tag allows users to categorize topics. facebook is only testing the

feature right now. no word on when it will be rolled out. san francisco is holding its huge st. patrick's day party tomorrow. this is video of last years parade. the parade will start tomorrow at 11:30 at 2nd and market streets. it will run down market and end at the civic center. 4:48 is the time. top of the morning to you, sal. >> all right. yes. top of the morning to you. that is this sunday right? >> it is. >> all right. the year is moving along quickly. let's take a look at what we have now with the morning commute. hopefully that will move along very quickly. eastbound 580 it was three lanes blocked. now it's only one lane blocked with a big rig fire. so far it's not causing a huge traffic problem on westbound 580 which is what we always watch from the altamont pass to dublin. the morning commute looks good at the bay bridge toll plaza.

the traffic looks good into san francisco. and there are no major problems by the way on northbound 280 getting up to highway 17. let's go to rosemary. another enjoyable day in the forecast. i think you will notice a couple of things. cooler anywhere from 2-4-6 degrees and we are waking up with patchy fog but it's not as thick. half-moon bay and napa reporting fog. i don't think it will be as wide spread. we'll be tracking that for you throughout the morning. we are pulling through the bay area. you can see the west corner of california covered in a patch of clouds. that will continue to stream our way. and i want to take you 1800 miles out. this is north of hawaii. this system i think going to bring us some rain tuesday night into wednesday. let me show you what happens here. we pick it up this morning. there are high clouds we just mentioned. as we get into saturday notice the weak system here. this will keep the cooling trend going into the weekend. it will be a minor cooling trend but it will be there.

but those efforts are on hold because of budget cuts. the defendant 26-year-old casey furry said he set the fire because he was feeling anxious and wanted to leave work early. he faces up to 19 years in prison. san francisco police say cell phone thieves are getting more sophisticated and have the surveillance video to prove it. this was taken on the 33 muni bus. police say it shows a man in a white shirt grabbing a woman's phone. they see a third suspect follows the victim possibly to keep any good samaritans from jumping in. san leandro is reconsidering its ban on urban agricultural. the city says it will set up guidelines and require permits for beekeepers and hen houses.

newsroom. so garbage service may be delayed today and we do have a crew on the way to this. this is again waste management workers are picketing. the people who pick up your trash if you are in the east bay and expecting a trash pickup. it may not be happening today. we will get to the bottom of that. let's take a look at the bay bridge. the traffic is moving along well. i want to add one more thing. whenever there are picketers there are traffic problems in the area. we'll let you know more about that. let's go to highway 1. that traffic is moving along pretty well. and if you are are driving on eastbound 580 at airway they are careering up a truck fire. eastbound 580 year the airway exit. one lane is blocked. it's the right lane. let's go to rosemary. how are you this morning? we have an on shore breeze. sfo reporting 12 miles an hour, oakland 6, santa rosa 3. sea breeze continuing for your weekend.
