certain customer. now, it is the top story. good afternoon, i am tori campbell. this is a strange chain of events. it started with a vandalized taxicab and a shooting. brian flores joins us and explains how the suspect was found quickly. >> reporter: well the driver, suspect, officer, all of those people were not injured. if it wasn't for the cab's company investment in gps tracking, they may not have found the suspect so quickly. >> pacific heights is a quiet neighborhood. at 3:30 this morning, they flagged down a cab. the cab driver pulled over thinking it was a fare and as he did, it got loud. >> the suspects began jumping up and down. and they shattered the windshield of the taxicab. >> he took advice and locked all the doors.

few minutes later. he opened the door and left the cab with the keys in the ignition. the 25-year-old suspect took off in the cab. >> you are concerned about driver safety. when i heard the driver was okay. that was my first priority. the cab company's dispatch was able to record the cab's every moment and following it into jackson and spruce where they created a perimeter. they clipped two patrol scars. the officers, fearing for their lives. fired at the cab. >> we located the abandoned cab and we found the suspect and he was taken into custody. >> the cab was found abandoned. each of the yellow cabs had gps&p that was relayed to the police shortly thereafter. he was arrested. our dispatch supervisor got on the phone to the police. told the police what happened. and was able to follow it on his gps screen and tell them

where the cab was and track it until he apprehended them. >> there were no injuries to the driver or the suspects or the drivers involved. >> now, the driver who did not want to speak to us on camera said he is with the company. and the taxicab company for seven years. he tells us through the company. he is doing okay. he is a little shake be up. as for the suspect. he could face charges. >> including vandalism and carjacking and assault. >> channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. >> there is developing news about a young man who is believed to be missing in the santa cruz mountains. he was considered at risk because he suffered a head injury. >> more information came in minutes ago. >> janine de la vega will hit us know what is happening. good afternoon. >> torii, it is in a hold mode and we learned from the sheriff's department that they received a tip that 20-year-old matt abraham was spotted at a

bus station at fourth and king in san francisco. apparently he got on the bus at 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning. we are told he was traveling with a man and got off at a bus in sparks, nevada. >> deputies are trying to confirm it was abraham. the search and rescue team has been searching for him since yesterday near his home in scotts valley and hen row cowell park. they lost it near his house. abraham fell 50 feet off a train trellis in the park. he suffered a concussion and head trauma. he was last seen wednesday night and his family said he left without notice. they believe he left his house on thursday morning. they say he is disoriented and not in the right state of mind. deputies say they are going to use surveillance video in sparks, nevada where a tipster claims he was seen getting off the bus that he got on in san

francisco. now, a sheriff's spokesman said the tipster told him that abraham was carrying a multi-colored stuffed animal and they described it in detail and called the family. they described the same stuffed animal. so it sounds like it matches up. they want to review the videotape. here is what the lieutenant told us moments ago. >> spend some of the efforts on getting it back here and getting it to the family and confirming or denying if it is mr. abraham. >> if it is not and we can't confirm it that it is mr. abraham. search plans here until we exhaust all the leads. >> so, until the sheriff's department gets the confirmation. they could get it in 15 minutes and take up to three hours. back out here live, you can see the search and rescue crews are

in a holding pattern. they have the csm-9s out -- k-9s out here and there are about 40 people out here dedicated to looking for abraham. he is considered high risk. i spoke with his mother this morning before we knew about the tip. haven't talked to her since, you can see, there is a big group of volunteers, family and friends of abraham. and no doubt, they know this, and i haven't had a chance to talk to him since the news came in and it is going to give them much hope. we will continue to follow the story. we will see it later on the newscast coming up at six tonight. >> reporting live from scotts valley. channel 2 news. thank you, janine. they are checking for clues into a shooting that took place in front of bart passengers. they opened fire at the

richmond bart station and then ran off. the victim, the a man in his 30s was shot on the stairs which is adjacent to the amtrak station. they are trying to determine if someone followed the victim. they described the scene as chaotic. >> if i had gotten on the elevator any sooner, i would have been in the crossfire. i cried after i seen it, because i have never seen a dead body before. >> the motive for the shooting is not yet known. police hope a new $10,000 reward will lead to information and an arrest at a richmond park. 26-year-old william wheeler was found shot to death february 4th next to lucas park near 10th street. and no arrests have been made. they have not yet determined the mow lmotive. you are asked to contact the richmond police. the oakland police department is being restructured.

definitive plan next months. riders will have a chance to voice their opinions on proposed changes. bart is kicking off an all access week for bicyclists. that means, you can bring bikes on to trains at any time. the current official policy only allows bikes during noncommute hours. they have been allowing bikes during commute times as a test. there is an exception. it begins next week. bicyclists are being asked not to use the first three cars on the bart train. a plan to ease traffic congestion in downtown heyward goes on tonight. crews will change traffic signs and lightses creating one way traffic on the hayward loop. it begins tonight. on mission and jackson streets. and is expected to continue through the weekend. president obama is is in illinois today. during the past hour he was talking about the blueprint for

the clean and secure energy future. the president visited the argon national laboratory near chicago. it is one of the largest research labs. the president's plan includes a proposal for congress to include a security trust. by investing in the secure, we help the businesses succeed and creating good middle class jobs in america. >> the trust would be funded by oil and gas development royalties earned from leases of federal water. governor has two massive tunnels in the delta. th will deliver water from northern california to other parts of the state. the governor said it would make water from the delta more reliable and the $23 million projects still face as number of challenges including how it would be funded.

. yesterday the dow closed. it is the highest since p november '96 and today stocks are lower and they are worried that inflation will cause the federal reserve to retreat from the boosting market. >> the dow is currently down. at 14,485. and the nasdaq is is also down 15. s&p down five. facebook founder mark zuckerberg is at the top of the prestigious list. >> glass door ranks the 28-year-old as the top ceo in the country. he got a 99% approval rating from facebook employees surveyed on the site. they made the top 50. including google and video and apple. only one woman made the top 50. victoria secret ceo.

they are in lock down as police search fournier by suspects. this is for carmen dragon elementary school. they are searching for a suspect or suspects in an area south of country hills drive and we are waiting to hear from police what exactly they are wanted for. we are told all students at the carmen dragon elementary school are safe and accounted for. tonight on ktvu channel 2 news at five. we just learned a missing man may have hopped on to a bus to a reno suburb. we have the latest to fine him. thank you for trusting ktvu news.
