all indicators are excellent. >> little gabriela quintero was taken to the hospital when police found her in the abandon jeep. she appeared calm and in good health. the hospital said the girl was discharged to her mother before 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. an hour ago. again the investigation is not over and police are still looking for the person who stole the jeep. san jose police say the suspect is a white woman in her 30s wearing a dark top and pants and with dark hair in a bun. she was carrying a target shopping bag. there is a target store nearby but that store was not open at the time. ktvu channel 2 news is staying in touch with police as they search for the suspect. follow us on twitter where we will tweet any updates including an arrest in the

vehicle. we are determining whether or not this vehicle was involved in that. >> police are also investigating whether the three men were involved in a armed robbery and shooting in san san jose. the castro district will be the scene of a rally and march in support of same-sex marriage. ktvu's noelle walker is live where the supreme court court, all eyes on the supreme court. >> reporter: we have seen a few people here with signs and flags. they are starting to set up for a huge rally and march to city hall. supreme court is taking up the debate tomorrow and this is not a black and white issue. there are a number of ways the court can go. >> reporter: 20,000 same-sex couples in california said i do. and then in november california voters said we don't. proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage set up tomorrow's supreme court show down.

>> we will get guidance from the highest court. >> reporter: she says there is a rainbow of options the court can decide. the justices could upholdthe ban which would leave the issue up to individual states to decide. the court could invalidate all bans on same-sex marriage. it is unlikely. it is what the supreme court did in 1967 when it struck down virginia's ban on interracial marriage and extended it to every state. >> it is likely the supreme court will not uphold all the bans or strike all the bans down but do something in the middle. >> reporter: that could strike down prop 8 that only in california did same-sex couple have marriage rights and have them taken away. it could be a 9 state solution. right now the highlighted

states allow some form of civil union. for those states the court will have to answer a basic question. >> are you trying to signal that same-sex couples could be in a second class status? >> reporter: whatever the decision, the supreme court is likely to leave room for future debate. >> reporter: now legal experts aren't expecting the court to make the decision till the end of june. in the mean time, coming up at 6:00 p.m. we will talk to some of the people who are helping organize tonight's event. back to you. there appears to be support among americans for same-sex marriage. 57% of people say they have a family member or friend who is gay. that is up 12% from 2007. another pole shows support for same-sex marriage rose from 40%

plans to open all but the two largest banks tomorrow. they closed to avoid panic while the government arranged for a bail out. at one point there was a plan to tax all savings accounts 10%. the most recent plans involve a loss at a bank and a freeze on all transactions at the bank of cyprus. the dow is down 64 to 14,447. the nasdaq is down 9 at 3,235. michael dell head head wins. the black stone group made offers to stockholders promising a higher price. that comes as dell and other investors are trying to buy up all of the company stock for $13.65 a share. they are offering $15 a share.

in denver, colorado, friends of the slain prison chief paid their respects today. [ music playing ] >> police say evan ebel a man polled is a suspect. -- paroled is a suspect. he was killed in texas. investigators confirm the bullets that killed him came from the gun found with evan ebel. after the shoot out. the sheriff's department in texas was trying to determine what his motive was. he was a former gang member. >> one of two teens accused of a shooting death was in court today. a judge said he would be charged with murder. he did not enter a plea and the

happening now, news chopper 2 first on the scene as police officer found a 11-month-old girl that prompted a amber alert. family is now meeting with police. at this point investigators are looking for the person who stole the car as the baby was sitting inside. the girl is little gabriela quintero. she looked healthy and calm as officers found her. she was taken to the hospital and deemed completely healthy. her mother took her home 90 minutes ago and earlier ktvu's robert handa brought us a live report from san jose. robsert staying in contact -- robsert staying in contact with police -- robert is staying in contact with police and will have more at 6:00 p.m. a victim was found last night before midnight. he was airlifted to the hospital and underwent surgery. so far no arrests have been

made and police haven't released information about a suspect. the contra costa county coroner identified a man whose body was found in the bay on sunday. police don't know how the body of richard wood ended up in the water. initially there were indications he died of suspicious causes and detectives were called to the scene but now they don't believe it was suspicious and calling it an unexplained death. update on a service dog that was stolen. we talked with police and they say the dog, who you see here has been reunited with the owner. the owner needs the dog to calm panic attack said. police responded to a tip and found the dog at a home in san francisco. he was taken friday night after the owner fell asleep on a bart

a former university of california at berkeley professor has died. he joined the faculty in 1978 in computer science. he was appointed to professional at the school of information, which he helped form. he died in oakland march 15. he was 61 years old. watch dog commission

recommended turning over state parks to local park agencies. the report says some state parks are only of local interest and should be the responsibility of local governments. they did not say which parks should be transferred. they found the parks department had an outdated management system and didn't get enough money to maintain the parks. with easter weekend ahead fuel prices continue to call across the united states. the report pegged the average cost at $3.67. that is down 11 cents from a month ago. the reason for the decline is a drop in cruel oil prices. in the bay area, the average price today for a gallon was $4.14 in san francisco. roles are changing when it comes to who is the bread winner of the household. an analysis shows when one

san jose police continue to look for that suspect in the deadly stabbing. this man, he is accused of killing his former girlfriend. she was found stabbed to death on friday on north first street not far from the jail -- from the jail. he may be driving a vehicle similar to this. dark green, toyota pick up. he may be heading to mexico. man who was shot after pointing a fake rifle at a sheriff's deputy died of his injuries. he was shot twice in the chest friday night. authorities had been called to his home on reports that he had

been threatening a family member. the sheriff's department just sent us this picture of what is believed to be a rifle. turned out to be a pipe. a operation led to the rest of two suspected robbers in san mateo. they were arrested for conspiracy and armed robbery. he was also charged with possession of a concealed loaded shotgun. officers say they spotted the two in a vehicle that had been seen near a robbery. officers say he was in possession of the loaded shotgun. an investigation is underway to see if they are connected to other crimes. the coast guard called off off a search last night for a man. they searched for several hours

ktvu's ken pritchett explains the technology police are using, but we begin with ktvu's robert handa who was the first reporter on the scene when the baby was found and he talked to the officer who found the child. robert? >> reporter: the victim's family has been here talking with investigators, because the case is active even though we can show you pictures of a happy recovery. >> the view from news chopper 2 shows the rescue of the girl. police retrieved little gabriela quintero from her mother's stolen car that was spotted by a resident. from the ground ktvu channel 2 news got pictures of the rescue that had family, friends and the officers grateful. little gabriela quintero was the focus of an amber alert. >> she appeared distraught.
