work she shown throughout the process with gun violence protection. she has been having a tough battle and we have her back. >> last week he introduced a bill that would require universal background checks. they could vote on the issue in a couple weeks. documents released today on adam lanza. adam lanza had been stock piling weapons in the months leading up to the massacre. they found a gun safe in his bedroom and found adam lanza killed 26 people inside sandy hook elementary school and took his own life within five minutes of shooting his way into the building -- they found inside guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a bayonet and several swords. new information in the case against a man accused of

threatening leland yee. search weren'ts were issued today. the documents say police -- warrants were issued today. the documents say police found thousands of rounds of ammunition in his home. prosecutors say he threatened him over proposed gun control legislation. police seized computers, hard drivers and cell phones. woman is out of the hospital after being struck by a vehicle. she was walking in a parking lot about 11:30 p.m. last night on east 14th and 167th avenue. witnesses say the driver of the car was backing out when she hit the woman. the driver then took off. the chp is checking surveillance video of the incident. the woman was driving a light blue car. broken belt in the bay bridge, today we trked down the manufacturer of the bolts.

32 bolts popped out of place because the metal is too weak. we spoke with engineers who say the fix will be expensive. they did not have an estimate on how much it will cost. the bolts are made in ohio. they said we are very well aware of the problem and we will work with the american bridge floor and caltrans to revolve the situation. two caltrans technicians faked testing data and charged the state in over time they did not earn. they tested foundations for construction projects. the employees claimed 260 hours of testing they never performed and caltrans has taken no action to determine those project as safe after learning of the reports. they say the bridges are safe. a second person has died in a fiery crash that shut down

interstate 80 today. we brought you this story on ktvu channel 2 news at noon. it happened on i-80 near old davis road at 10:30 a.m. the westbound lanes are still closed. tom is live as drivers are still being detoured around the crash. tom? >> reporter: we are several miles away from where the accident was but this is the backup. what you are seeing is a steady stream of drivers diverted off i-80, up i-5 to come through town to get on 113 to get back down to i-80. about that accident, here is what happened. >> the after market of the deadly crash, the big rig caught fire after hitting a car head on. they are incinerated. the driver escaped with minor

injuries but the driver inside the car was dead. >> it was discovered there was a second victim in the car that was hit head on. out of the crash we have two fatal victims. >> the accident happened because the truck driver was distracted and lost control. >> he was eating and started choking. lost consciousness and drifted on to the shoulder. his rig came across all of the eastbound lanes. >> reporter: he hit two cars. then smashed into had westbound lanes hitting the car. this video was taken moments later by a driver who said the rig barely missed her car. that close call left her shaky. drivers suffered minor to moderate injuries but they survived as did the truck driver who is under investigation and could face charges. >> reporter: the chp says the driver could potentially face a manslaughter charge but that is not determined yet, it is still

under investigation. the roadway is still closed through davis westbound. caltrans is checking the quality of the surface. they areoping to open -- are hoping to open two lanes. car thief who was shot by san jose police is expected to survive. this is the city's third officer involved shooting this month. it happened yesterday afternoon after police stopped the stolen car. investigators say the woman driving put the car in reverse and then drove towards the officers. one officer was struck by the car but got off a shot that hit the woman. the officer was hurt but he will be okay. new night at 5:00 p.m., a break in involving several cases of wine.

ktvu's john sasaki sin san francisco and tells us this wine was worth a lot of money. john? >> reporter: frank, that is right. this is a $5 bottle and each bottle was worth 200 times that amount. details are sketchy but it was tuesday that someone broke into this building in san francisco and into fine wines international. they stole 80 80 bottles of wine, more than $100,000. they have been here for more than 30 years. their less pricy bottles cost $20,000 a case and one costs $37,000 a case. police are trying to find out if this was a crime of opportunity or something else. >> when someone breaks in, you never know what they will get and the police department always looks into whether or not this place was cased, was

new information on the double fatal crash we told you about in davis. we learned the westbound lanes of interstate 80 have reopened. the lanes had been shut down since this crash at 10:30 a.m. this morning. the chp said a driver was eating and started choking and passed out before crashing into traffic. police are looking for ang attempted burglary suspect. this is surveillance video released yesterday. a man, he looks inside, walks

away, comes back and throws a rock at the door. that triggered an alarm. the man runs away and falls down. a newspaper posted this video on youtube. it got 50,000 views in 24 hours. >> lawmakers, community groups and organizations are trying to get support for a bill that would ma'am -- amonday california's vehicle -- amend california's vehicle cold. >> the california office of traffic safety released a study that revealed more drivers are driving with drugs than with alcohol. >> one person killed by a drugged driver was a chp officer. in 2010 he was on duty when he was hit by a driver who was under the influence of marijuana but the driver was acquitted because the jury couldn't decide if the crash happened because of drugs or because he fell asleep at the

crowd is already gathered. we are live here in palo alto and the marchers are already brought their signs. they are ready to march tonight. and you can see the sign here, protect children, not guns. this is one of the hundreds of rallies and marches to demand action to reduce gun violence across the country. the reason for this, congress will vote on penalties for people who illegally sell guns. the nra said the president is trying to please the fringe by backing gun restrictions. those that gathered here they have a message, they want background checks. you can see the signs. look at that. 120,000 gun as year not in unsafe hands. support universal background

january. february and march. this is where they did the survey today. there is the mark that pole left last night. you can still see it. the survey for april is important because it marks the beginning of the snow melt. with rising rivers it is well under way. the upside, reservoirs remain relatively full. still officials are urging conservation. >> a lot of the ag users have been put on notice they will be cut back. >> reporter: with that almost no snow in 2013, our snow pack is about the same as last year. the reason is we had quite a bit of snow fall in december and that is making up the snow pack right now. we have had two dry years, if we have a third dry year that

>> reporter: sources inside the house over site committee are investigating the most expensive government trips in recent years and we saw it front and center. one in 2009 and one in 2011. each cost taxpayers $3,000 per attendee. more expensive than the 2010 conference in las vegas. $822,000 total. fine food, music and a clown. the congressman said he is not sure what he will find. >> that is fine. got golf outings, clowns. it looks more like play than work. >> reporter: he is suspicious because of our investigation of the postal service conference in california. cost $2 million and included a gulf outing and a dinner event.

a alley way in san francisco is now servic as a refuge for veterans. they are painting stories on the wall. their unique form of therapy. >> it is a mural project i created with a homeless veteran. last year and a half we have been painting on 8 buildings, our own individual stories. >> the reason behind the project that it shares with the community the full cost of war. >> where this mural project is located you see tourists come here and they see the stories veterans put on the wall and they learn something and they take it back to their home

country. that is very meaningful. >> there you go. >> when we painted this mural we said that once we got better numbers, updated numbers, we would come back and update that number. the number that we have in the alley right now, 31 attempts of suicides daily by u.s. veterans and 22 are successful daily. >> we know that as more and more veterans come out and our telling their stories, we know the walls will be painted for years. a symbol of peace and kindness in san francisco has been targeted by vandals again. the gandhi statue is behind the ferry building and now it has a broken walking staff and no
