westbound bay bridge it's light. and this mornings commute in oakland you can see the fog is moving around. it wasn't foggy earlier but it is now. let's go to steve. you are correct, sir. we talked about that. it's definitely showing up. our observer said very, very foggy. quarter mile visibility. and that will play into our weather. also playing into our weather is a break from a lot of the high mid level clouds. mostly sunny and mild. also coming up on mornings on 2 a story we have been following in san francisco for the past two hours. what led us to this frightening scene. also a suspect search in the south bay. you will see the video that police hope will lead to the arrest. mom, i invited justin over for lunch.

"mornings on 2" starts right now. good friday move, i'm brian flores. >> i'm tori campbell. dave clark is off today. police are searching for the driver who plowed into a home in san francisco's bayview district, then took off. it happened around 4:00 it morning. tara moriarty is joinging us with reaction from the home in the woman who thought there had been an earthquake. >> reporter: good morning. they thought it was an earthquake. the mother said the daughter rushed into her bedroom and said i think it's the big one and then they looked outside and saw the car smashed into their house where the blue tarp

is. witnesses say the driver slammed into the house and then the suspect ran away. there appears to be about $10,000 worth of damage to the house and many items inside the garage were ruined, including a dryer. witnesses could not tell if the person was a man or a woman. they appeared to be latino or pacific islander. the impact of the crash was enough to wake up everyone inside the home. luckily, no one was hurt. >> came outside, nobody was hurt. all of the stones and rock and stuff is on the ground. very surprising. you don't really see too many disasters like this. >> reporter: police are running the license plates right now. they say the car was not stolen. oftentimes in these type of cases, police say the driver is usually drunk and flees the scene. police want to remind everyone that it is a crime to report a false crime.

the person will face hit and run charges and possible dui. meanwhile, the people here are trying to get some sleep since their rude awakening. you see it knocked over the trash cans and the trash was strewn all the way down the street to the lamp that you can see. so quite a messy seen out here. most of it has been cleaned up. as we mentioned, the people are trying to get some shutout. i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, tara. san francisco police are also investigating an overnight shooting that happened a block from alamo park and injured two people. it happened at 12:0 this morning at -- 12:30 this morning. police say shots were fired between two cars. one of the victims drove himself to the hospital. both victims are expected to survive. drug-sniffing dogs will be sniffing out prescription drugs

and alcohol in dublin schools. the school board voted to bring them back last year after they stopped using them. police are looking for two men suspected of robbing people leaving a light rail station. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live at the station with more. >> reporter: brian, we're here in front of the berryessa light rail station. police say it was three teenaged boys who were riding and they were followed into a neighborhood about a half a mile away and that's where they were robbed. police want to know if you are ecnice these men. one is black, the other is latino. this is video on march 8th. investigators say at 7:30 that night, the suspects followed the victims. they confronted the boys saying they would shoot them if they

didn't turn over their property. the suspects robbed the victims and then ran away. none of those teenaged boys were injured. now, the first suspect is described as being black, 5'10" weighing 180 wounds with an afro, wearing a white t-shirt and white and black shorts. the other suspect is described described as being latino, 5'8", 180 pounds. he has a goatee and a tattoo on his left arm. he was also wearing black and plaid shorts but he was wearing a t-shirt. if you recognize these men, call san jose police. i also want to mention that a couple of months ago a woman was robbed. she was on ray street and that incident when we reported it, we showed pictures of the suspect and people called into the station, recognizing the suspects, an arrest was made. police are hoping, even though this is an unrelated case, if

police recognize the pictures, that maybe, you know, they will call into police and they will be able to get success in this case. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. a suicide bomber killed 11 people and injured more than 20 in an attack at a u could. son sue lit in pakistan -- u.s. consulate in pakistan. reportedly, the target of the attack was a police commander. he was not hurt. the pakistani taliban claimed responsibility for the attack saying police are part of the system they don't recognize and they are operating against us. meantime, a mass rally in north korea today against the u.s. coming up at 7:15, the action by the u.s. that has north korea threatening to settle accounts. 7:05. san francisco's public housing authority is in a real cash crunch. the acting head of the agency says it will run out of money

in two months. if that happens, there will be no money to pay for garbage collection, repairs or staff salaries. and it will be $6.4 million in deficit by the end of the year. the housing authority handles programs that provide homes for more than 41,000 low-income families and individuals. b.a.r.t. says money from the latest fare hikes will only be used for capital improvements on the transit system. board members wanted to clarify what the increased fares would pay for. the board voted to expand the fleet of train, building a new maintenance center and installing a better control system. there had been public concerns, the money would go toker pay and benefits for -- would go for pay and benefits for workers. we've been talking about fog all morning long. pretty light traffic. but sal, you are updating the crash there in n francisco. what's going on on there?

>> southbound 101 after cesar chavez, a delivery truck overturned. normally, we can show you a picture of that on the maps but our picture is fogged in. so the traffic will be slow on southbound 1101 and also -- 101. the best way to do it, use 280 as an alternate route. that's a better way to leave town at this point. let's go to live pictures right now. definitely lighter than usual. a lot of people have the day off today. there are no problems on the upper deck of the bay bridge. this morning's commute on northbound 280 in san jose, the fog hasn't reached here. it's clear and clear traffic. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. definitely a lot of fog stepping right on top of it, some of the higher buildings peeking out up above. it can be a lousy visibility. we get a little bit of a break today. weak high pressure has built over. that's squashing some of that fog by the way.

but the higher clouds have thinned out. could be a few later on. overall, mostly sunny and very mild to warm today, especially inland of get more of that tropical feel here. it's a warm pattern away from the coast. i think by the coast after that fog burns off. high clouds might come in later. could be a few buildups over the hills. but it will be on the weekend. clouding up on saturday, possible thundershowers, showers but more likely late saturday into sunday. today will be mild to warm away from the coast. mid- to upper 70s possible. 40s and 50s on the temperatures. we're running cooler than yesterday when we had all of the cloud cover and drizzle. 30, 38 tahoe in reno. the low is inching towards us. i mean, it has to take another day before it will start wrapping in the moisture. today is that break. about once it does start to move in, it will cloud us up. we'll have toking, sun -- fog,

one home was destroyed. several homes were damaged. geologists will be back at the scene this morning trying to figure out what caused the ground to give way. a northern california woman is camping out in a tree and is now on a hunger strike. she's living in a pine tree in willits. that's in mendocino county. she moved into the tree january 28th to propose a highway 101 bypass project because she says the project will affect birds in the area. she wants the project to be stopped, wants access to the construction site an and for an alternative to the bypass. until those demands are met, she refuses to eat. yet another close call. what happened those children who survived the sandy hook elementary school shooting? fference between a vase and a vaz?

fog's the big story for many, not for all. even some locations inland, it's very, very foggy. it should lift 9:00, 10:00 inland. mostly sunny, warm, mid-70s. 7:13. we've learned a bay area couple died in that fiery big rig crash in davis we first told you about at noon yesterday. this accident happened on interstate 80 in solano county near the yolo county line. investigators say the big rig driver choked on some food and then passed out while behind the wheel. his truck then went through the center divide and crashed head on into a car, killing a couple from petaluma. the big rig driver suffered moderate injuries. the chp says he may face criminal charges. a memorial service will be held sunday for a san francisco woman hit by a car while she crossed the street. the 68-year-old woman had been clinging to life since last

thursday's accident. she suffered severe brain trauma and died on wednesday. she was walking with her husband who suffered minor leg injuries. the driver stayed a the scene after the crash and was not arrested. prosecutors are deciding to seek charges. san jose police say more than 1800 cars were stolen in january and february alone. that's a 53% increase over the same time period last year. one san jose city council member thinks -- >> i think we're having issues with folks coming out of the jail and the prison system and coming into the bay area and all over california. >> the california detail ended a year ago due to staffing levels. 7:14. north korean leader kim jung un

has ordered his military to be ready to attack. kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with what the pentagon is saying this morning. >> reporter: well, i did call the public affairs office. i also e-mailed them but so far there's no word on how the military could respond to these latest threats from north korea. kim jung un says his rocket forces are ready to "settle accounts with the u.s.." it is partially in response to this -- yesterday, the u.s. said it flew nuclear capable stealth bombers to south korea for joint military drills. chuck hagel says it's vital that the north korea snows the u.s. will protect south korea, u.s. military bases. >> i don't think we're poking back and responding. north korea has to understand that what they are doing is very dangerous. >> reporter: and here's a time

line from the threats -- in december, north korea successfully launched a rocket. in january, kim jung un scoffed at u.n. sanctions and made more nuclear threats. just last month, north korea had a successful underground nuclear test. and now un says his rocket forces are ready to attack the u.s. i talked with a former member of the intelligence community here in d.c. he used to work for the cia. he says the u.s. has to be very careful with how it responds to threats from north korea. we'll hear more from him when i see you next hour. kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. americans are marking the anniversary of the end of the united states direct military role in the vietnam war. it's been 40 years since the last american troops withdrew. after troops left the war, a small american presence remained, mostly diplomats, advisers and aide workers.

we're learning more about the condition of nelson mandela. he's in the hospital getting treatment for a recurring lung infection. he's said to be in good spirits and making steady progress. his office said the 94-year-old enjoyed a full breck breakfast this morning. prosecutors are responding to a plea offer from james holmes. he said he would plead guilty to the crime in order to avoid the death penalty. prosecutors say it is extremely unlikely they will agree to the offer. well, a newtown, connecticut family has experienced two tragedies in less than a year. this week, the barth family lost their home and pets in a devastating fire. a couple of months ago, their two children survived the mass shooting at sandy hook elementary school. the red cross is helping with

hotel accommodations and the fire is under investigation. a boxing champion from gilroy is in trouble with the law. he was arrested at j.f.k. when airport security found and unloaded handgun inside a locked gun box. guerrero says the firearm is registered in california. but new york law enforcement says he's still not licensed to carry the gun in new york. he was there to promote a may 4th bout against another fighter. the marin county man accused of brandishing anantler was arrested. last night they received reports that the man was running around with a spear- like weapon on a property near whit acer -- whit kerr road --

whitaker bluff road. san francisco police are searching for suspects in a big wine heist. thieves stole more than $100,000 worth of wine from a merchant in the city's bayview district. police say it happened sometime tuesday night or early wednesday night at fine wine international. the owners say the thieves made off with 80 bottles of expensive wines. police are following several leads at this point including the possibility this was an inside job. a new employee code of conduct continues today at port of oakland in the wake of a spending scandal that was uncovered in a recent ktvu investigation. among other things, we learned some port workers spent thousands of dollars of public money at a strip club. >> it's really a milestone and a commitme that we made to the public to respond of a we learned of serious challenges that we face and actions that have been conducted by senior leadership. >> the new policy approved

yesterday, includes tough new limits on employee spending and travel. it also calls for mandatory ethics training for all port workers. the giants' world series win helped san francisco reach a record for tourism spending. the san francisco travel association says more than 16 million visitors came to the city in 2012 and they spent a record $8.9 billion. >> it's a destination place so people really want to come here and say. they come earlier and stay the week and then the weekend after. the america's cup and the bay bridge heights are expected to boost tourism this year. one of the big things is the weather. >> exactly. >> not so good this weekend. >> well, speaking of weather, we are expecting rain this holiday weekend. meteorologist steve paulson is tracking system heading our way. up next he will tell us when and where we can expect the

the owner of chick-fil-a wanted to show that they do not discriminate. in july, he said the franchise reports the traditional idea of family. 7:24 and the founder of facebook may not like his tax bill this year. mark zuckerberg is expected to owe the irs more than a billion dollars in taxes. that's because he decided to exercise a stock option and buy more than $60 million in stock shares and he knew the high bill was coming and sold stock to cover it. 237 traffic is doing very well as you cross 880. this is 280 at the 880 interchange. there are no major problems as you drive through. we have a light could commute.

use 280 as an alternate. let's go to steve. well, the big story is the fog for many. some of it is really thick. visibility is lousy but mostly sunny and warm. we could use some rain. we're running out of time. you can see the fock. there will be rain on the weekend. but i don't think it will matter here. some of the totals coming in are just beyond ugly. the good was november, december, we were 160% of normal. the rain was fantastic and january came around and the tap turned off. that's the bad. third driest ever for san francisco. january. february was not much better. 18%. 20 driest ever. what's the ugly? the ugly is so far, january, february, and march, a grand total of 1.73 inches of rain has fallen. we would need an inch and a half to not set the record and i don't think that's going to happen. so it will go down, threes

richmond police station. this case has really upset the chief and the whole department. good morning, lorraine. >> reporter: good morning. i just talked with the public information officer for richmond police. the lieutenant told me they are looking for more leads today. the suspect description is incredibly general and they are hoping someone will come forward with some better information at about 1:15 yesterday, the city's shot spotter system captured rapid gunfire near first and mcdonald in the iron triangle neighborhood. police believe the intended target was a man on his bicycle who suffered non-life- threatening injuries. the child, 1-year-old eli jauge, underwent emergency surgery for bullet fragments to his neck. he's in fair condition. his grandfather was feeding him when he was injured. >> bottom line, you know, it shouldn't happen.

pleaded not guilty to dui vehicular manslaughter charges. brentwood police have arrested a man accused of molesting a boy 20 years ago. now they are encouraging other possible victims to come forward. 52-year-old gordon blake is being held at the martinez detention facility on 15 counts of sexual molestation. investigators say the victim came forward and said blake molested him starting at age 10. he says the abuse went on for six years. police say blake may have come into contact with other children at the brentwood community pool. 7:32. a frightening warning this morning for thousands of dental patients in the midwest. we're going to go to tulsa, oklahoma to find out how 7,000 patients may have been exposed to hiv and help pie tis. >> reporter: health investigators are issuing -- and hepatitis. >> reporter: health

investigators are issuing warnings to those patients who have come here to this dentist and that they need to get tested quickly. all of this happening after investigators, health investigators came here to the dental practice over the course of the last two weeks and said they found extremely unsanitary conditions inside this dental practice as well as -- as well as illegal practices in their words, assistants that were not qualified. they are urging these patients who say they might have been ex- - they might have been exposed to hiv and help a tie tase. we've -- hepatitis. we've tried to get in touch with the doctor. his practice has been temporarily closed. so we don't know what the future holds for dr. harrington's practice here in tulsa, oklahoma.

right now the focus is getting those 7,000 people tested to see if they've been infected with hiv and hepatitis. >> thank you. in overnight news, a fire truck responding to a call crashed in oakland. it happened around 9:00 last night at 90th avenue and bancroft. as you can see from our video, part of the fire truck was on top of this car. the good news, no one was injured. investigators say the collision, though, did cause air bags to deploy. and this morning, police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in a richmond collision that injured seven people. police say the driver of a chevy camaro collided with a pickup truck at 7:20 last night. two people in the camaro were critically injured. four other people are also injured but they are expected to survive. authorities are investigating after bodies were found on two bay area beaches. police say a jogger spotted a woman's body at shore itbird

park in emeryville yesterday morning. there were no obvious signs of trauma but police have not ruled out foul may. a passer pau spotted another body -- a passerby spotted another body. autopsies will be conducted to determine how both people died. right now, president obama on air force one, on his way to miami, florida. this is him leaving maryland a few minutes ago. in miami, the president will tour a tunnel project and talk about his proposals to strengthen the economy by investing in infrastructure. meantime, the obama administration wants the entire country to use the kind of gas california drivers already use. the epa would require a nationwide reduction in the sulfur content of gas and tougher darr emission standards by 2017. it says the change could cost drivers less than a penny a gallon. but the oil industry says the reformulated gas would cost as much as 9 cents a gallon or more.

stanford researchers have found a link between birth defects and the one thing that most women can't avoid. according to the study, the pregnant women who breathe a lot of pollution in in the first few weeks of their pregnancy, are exposed to birth defects. >> we found those living near high pollution areas, those babies had a higher risk of spina bifida. >> they do say further study is required. a new at&t survey tase teenagers are not the biggest come pits when -- says teenagers are not the biggest culprits when driving. and the trend is on the rise. 6 out of 10 drivers said they never texted behind the wheel just three years. >> no one should be texting and driving in the first place.

>> no. it's been light at the toll plaza. what is it looking like out there now? >> we keep checking it. the traffic at the toll plaza and almost everywhere else has been light. today is good friday. some people observed that. they have the day off. financial markets are closed. and that means some financial people may not be going to work today and of, of course, this is -- and, of course, this is spring break. next week some people have spring break so you might expect better than usual conditions on the roads. you notice the traffic is going to be busy on interstate 880 because of fog. not even so much the traffic. the fog is moving around. earlier this morning, this was absolutely clear. but now the fog has moved in. you can see traffic is moving well anyway. southbound 101 still clearing the crash in san francisco. you should use 280 as an alternate route to get out of town. it's lighter than usual on all

1.73, making it the driest three months. the snowpack is also the driest. only 52%. so far rain and snow in california, it's been a really bad number. we'll get some rain on the weekend. but we need about 1.50 to get past the old mark which is 3.20 set back in 1850, 1851. i don't think we'll get that much. we'll get some rain on the weekend. but i think we'll set a record for the driest three months ever. at least according to records. the low is on the way. we're getting a break in advance of it. 40s and 50s. some areas have fog. our oner, very, very foggy. can't see across the street. 30s up in reno and tahoe. 50s for many. a little chill there in the morning. the low is -- is inching towards us. it's very, very slow. you need a kicker. you probably won't get that until sunday. today is the tweener day. it will be really warm inland.

caltrans says the broken bolts probably won't delay a scheduled opening of the new bay bridge on labor day week -- weekend. but engineers tell ktvu news that repair crews will be keeping very busy in the next five months in order to meet the deadline. they say the massive repair job will be both costly and difficult. two weeks ago, caltrans crews discovered that 31 huge holts had snapped. and for the devil's slide there will be lane closures until 3:00 this afternoon. they are expected to do more striping on the tunnels, south of pacifica and they opened earlier this week and already some lane closures. >> yeah. >> uh-huh. coming up -- the tent cabins at yosemite's curry village are getting an update

the drive who plowed into a home in san francisco's bayview district and then took off. it happened at 4:00 this morning on hau street. tara moriarty joins us with a look at the thousands of dollars of damage to the home. tara? >> reporter: we've just learned some more information about the owner of the car that slammed into this house. we understand he is a 58-year- old latino man from fairfield who has had past residents in san francisco. we don't know if he was the one behind the wheel early this morning. but certainly police are on that right now. it was a very rude awakening for the folks who live in this house. there's a gaping hole that goes all the way through the garage where the car smashed into it. at 4:00 this morning, witnesses say a driver slammed into the home on the corner of hau street in the hunters point neighborhood. the suspect ran away. there appears to be about $10,000 worth of damage to the house and many items inside the garage were ruined. witnesses say the driver

shooting, a block from alamo square that injured two people. it happened at about 12:30 this morning on fell and pierce streets. police say it appears shots were fired between two cars. one of the victims managed to drive himself to the hospital. both victims are expected to sur riv. drug-sniffing dogs will be approaching dublin schools. they will be sniffing out alcohol and both illegal and prescription drugs. they stopped using the drugs in 2007. they were voted back last year. the search is on for two men who police say followed people from a light rail station in san jose and robbed them. janine de la vega is at the station with more. >> reporter: all trains and platforms have closed circuit cameras. police were able to get their hands on that video of the suspects leaving the train. those suspects targeted three

young boys who were passengers. police want you to take a good look at these two men. one is black, the other is latino. both appear to be in their 20s. on march 8th, police say these two men followed three teenaged boys off the train from the berryessa light rail station near capital avenue. this is video of the two suspects getting off the train. they confronted the boys in the neighborhood half a mile away and it was there where they threatened to shoot them if they didn't turn over their property. we spoke to one man who says whenever he rides the light rail, he's aware of his surrounding. >> suspicious guys looking, i usually -- okay. i am more observed. >> reporter: did you uver watch who -- ever watch who followed you off the train? >> no. i'm 35 years old. i can run fast. maybe. >> reporter: the first suspect

a former nevada assemblyman was arrested in southern california just hours after his yellow lawmakers took the unprecedented step of expelling him. jail records show barstow police arrested 41-year-old steven brooks at 7:00 last night on charges including resisting arrest and throwing objects. yesterday morning, the nevada assembly voted to expel brooks after lawmakers said they did not feel safe with him in the building. this is the third time the las vegas democrat has been arrested since january. he's accused of making threats to his colleagues. a new employee code of conduct begins today at the port of oakland. it's part of an effort to win back public trust in the wake of a spending scandal. among other things, we learned some port workers spent thousands of dollars of public money at a strip club. it's really a milestone in a commitment that we made to the public to respond after we
