and-run crash that shut down a freeway for hours this morning. three cars were involved in the crash at 5:30 a.m. it started with a crash between a pick up and this minivan. the driver of the truck got out to look at the damage and that is when he was hit by an oncoming car. the driver of the car stopped, got out but disappeared when he saw the driver was dead. threeitateal shootings -- three fatal shootings over the weekend in oakland. investigators are interviewing witnesses and trying to determine if the killings are connected. first one happened yesterday morning and another at 4:00 p.m. and a third at 8:00 p.m. investigators are hoping to release more information about the victims tomorrow. police in san francisco

arrested two adults and a juvenile in connection with a string of robberies. police say travell council and eddie tillman both of san francisco committed several robberies on march 4 and 5. investigators also say the three were involved in a carjacking that led to an officer involved shooting. police say the suspects used a distinctive looking gun in their robberies. they have been booked on multiple charges. also in san francisco tonight the search for the gunman who shot and killed a college student visiting family on spring break. ktvu's jade hernandez has been following this story and today she spoke with the victim's grieving father. there are no words to describe what the family is experiencing. detectives are still hoping for tips from the community. >> reporter: he showed me photos of his son jacob

valdiviezo. in this one jacob valdiviezo he stands tall with his mother. today his father met with neighbors. he told us he was walking home from a get together saturday morning around 3:00 a.m. san francisco police say someone drove up, got out, asked him if he was in a gang and shot him near his parent's home. he found his son pleading grom gun shot wounds to his head and -- bleeding from gun shot wounds to his head and chest. the student at lewis and clark college was on a football scholarship. mese are hoping -- police are hoping for leads, someone who saw or heard something. >> he was a college student doing good, no problems with the police, no previous contacts. so it is a tragedy.

imagine explaining to your insurance agent you hit the gas instead of the breaks and slammed into a building. that is what happened to him this morning. he plowed through two fences, a tree, and then into a stairway at oakland's stanford house. the building is along lake side drive. the driver and people inside the building all walked away unharm. no estimate on damage. tomorrow the national rifle association will announce their recommendations for preventing gun violence at schools. it was announced in december in response to the school massacre in newtown, connecticut. the report will include training recommendations to prepare armed guards at schools with proposals for congress.

complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. >> san francisco, one of the most walkable cities in the nation but tonight there are concerns about pedestrian safety after a series of deadly accidents. already this year there have been five fatal crashes involving pedestrians. ktvu's david stevenson is live in san francisco and tells us there are plans to improve safety. >> reporter: that's right. pedestrian fatalities jumped over the last two years and some say the city isn't moving fast enough to save lives. >> reporter: san francisco pedestrians drive it as a daily battle. getting from point a to point b without getting injured or

police. the ceo of safeway saw his pay check dip. he made $9 million last year. that is down 1% from the 10 million he made before. safeway announced that he will retire in may after 20 years with the company. new housing development will be the topic of discussion tomorrow night during a city counsel meeting. the city counsel is set to hold a study session. the development proposed by safeway is a safeway store, retail space and senior housing. a study will be carried out after they submit a formal proposal. on wall street today, the dow is down 5 to 14,572. the nasdaq is down 28 at 3,239. the s&p is donw 7 to 1,562.

after reaching its all time high last week. it was positive news for tesla. they say they sold more than 4700 of its cars in the 1st quarter. that is more than predicted and that means they achieved profitability for the quarter. officials decided not to make a version with a smaller battery. the ceo hinting he has more good news that he will reveal tomorrow. airlines must continue to display the total cost of a ticket including tax in their advertised fairs. it requires airlines to display the total cost in ads. under the rule airlines are able to show the break down of the price, including taxes and fees. they think this will be their year.
