sorry for the homeless people who congregate by his restaurant. >> they are intoxicated. they get drunk and cause a problem. loud. >> reporter: police have begun handing out maps to homeless people. the map, hot zones, area wheres police say they got lot of calls. the areas include 4th and 8 8th street, 4th and b and 4 4th and lincoln avenue. he lost his home a year ago and has been on the street sense. >> they are trying to make it hard. >> reporter: how? >> just, you know -- people don't choose to be homeless. you know? you are stuck. >> reporter: the mayor says the map does not ban them from downtown but asks for their

cooperation. >> it is a suggestion that it would help them with public relationships as well as the city. >> the map lists rules of behavior, including no public drinking, clean up after yourself and use a toilet. >> where is the toilet? there is one toilet in town? 5 blocks away. >> reporter: police say they will continue patrolling downtown and they are hoping the plan will mean fewer complaints from business owners. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. right now crews are working to clear the scene of a deadly crash around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon in livermore. this is video from news chopper 2. the chp says a car veered off 580 and went down an embankment. one person was killed and another was airlifted to the hospital. a deadly hit-and-run accident in the north bay today shut down a major freeway.

it happened about 5:30 a.m. this morning on eastbound 780. the california highway patrol says trie vehicles -- three vehicles were involved. it started as a collision. the driver of the truck got out of his truck and struck and killed by a car. the driver then left the scene. investigators in san jose are trying to figure out why a man went on a rampage plowing through a walmart store. ktvu's robert handa is live in san jose where he talked with one of the victims today. robert? >> reporter: police say investigators tried to talk to the suspect today to try to find out more about the assault that took place at this store but at this point officers are still trying to make sense of it all. >> reporter: walmart employees did their best to return to

normal following the events. haamid zaid crashed into a moving car in the parking lot and then under the influence of drugs drove through the store's front entrance. >> i thought it was road rage. >> reporter: the first victim said haamid zaid rammed her car twice. she said he zoomed past her, drove over the debris, towards the walmart. >> you could see from his eyes in the car he was not in control. after he started past me and headed for the store i am going he is headed for the store. >> reporter: you didn't see the car till after an explosion of stuff. he attacked a worker. customers reacted. >> i watched him hit a dude and i chased him. chased him around the store. got 7 people to take him down to the ground. >> thank god for the customers.

it could have been more serious. >> reporter: she considers herself lucky. >> i am blessed to be safe. i am grateful that no one as a pedestrian was hurt. >> reporter: haamid zaid is expected to be in court tomorrow to face charges, including hit and run, and assault with a deadly weapon. the employee was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. in san jose, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. looks good out there right now. the showers taperer off. into the afternoon, finding a few clouds over the mountains as well as the hills. that is really about it. after a few days of rain, this is what we have seen. two day totals by the national weather service, inch, more than that in san francisco, as well as santa rosa.

highway 29. a sheriff's department spokesperson said the death is believed to be a suicide but the investigation hasn't been completed. police are investigating three killings that happened within 10 hours in east oakland. the first was reported at 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning. then after 4:00 p.m. there was a second homicide on international boulevard and around 8:00 p.m. another shooting was reported. all of the victims were men. their names haven't been released. the 19-year-old jacob valdiviezo is the man who was killed in san francisco's mission district. it happened at 3:00 a.m. when police say he was mistaken for a anything member. family said he just a-- gang member. family said he just arrived home from a spring break from

college. two san francisco police officers are trying to lure young people out of gangs or prevent them from joining one in the first place. new tonight at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's eric rasmussen has more. >> reporter: these officers admit this is a up hill battle. gang members tend to do well but that is just one part of their strategy to make the streets safer. >> you see a lot of blue, that end, a lot of red. >> reporter: they say gangs are still a serious problem in san francisco's mission district. we attached two cameras to their car. >> he is in the program. >> reporter: within minutes they spotted someone on probation. >> you are not supposed to be hanging out. 5 seconds. is this the only place you can eat? >> reporter: they are offering

more than just a warning. those who are willing can get help finding a job. >> we try to talk to them and get them going in a good way. you know, and put them on the right track. >> the officers have been running the program for a year and put about 20 former gang members to work. >> reporter: is there a chance some of the guys are taking jobs away from people who are not getting in trouble? >> no. the jobs that are out there that they are doing, you know, if a person wanted them they could take them but a lot are landscaping jobs. >> reaching out to kids and their families before they get recruited by gangs is just as important. >> it is not what it is cracked up to be. >> reporter: we got a chance to sit in on a meeting with the officers a13-year-old girl got a chance to hear from a former

gang member who turned his life around. their message put family and education over everything. live in san francisco, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. new legislation would send drug sellers to state prisons. current law calls for county jails. the new law would send those convicted of selling to state prisons. the idea behind using local jails is to help low level offenders be rehabilitated. >> the long term prisoners are not on that path. they can't be. so i think it is a form of disruption. >> officials say the law would effect 40 inmates in county jail. bankruptcy judge granted

show 11% of children have been diginosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, that is 6.4 million children between 4 and 17. the centers for disease control and prevention reports 2/3 have prescriptions for drugs. critics say the numbers show children are being over diagnosed and medicated to keep them calm. a law took effort today requiring doctors to notify women who are is mammograms if they have dense breast tissue. the more tissue the more dense the breast will be. it is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer. and it mandates they be informed on it could effect cancer risk. the head of apple wrote an

californians may not vote as often as people who move to california from other states. 73% of californian born voters went to the polls last year, compared to 80% who were born last year. younger people vote less frequently. lawmakers are considering a bill to help medi-cal inturpters join a -- interrupters join a union and it will cost $10 million a year. opponents say they need to keep costs down and better manage money but supporters say the bill is needed. >> we are trying to make sure that any patient that does not speak english, no matter where they come from and they are
