about it. >> reporter: back out here live you see a little tree that was taken out by the victim's car as he lost control. police are not confirming this was in fact, a robbery. a witness could only tell us that the suspect took off in a brown car. live in oakland, eric rasmussen, ktvu news. across the bay in san francisco, police tonight are investigating another shooting this one involved a 29-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. it happened about noon in the bay view neighborhood near west point and middle point road. san francisco police say the man's wounds are considered life threatening but they say that the woman is expected to survive. there's no word yet on a motive for this shooting but the department's gang task force is investigating. we're following breaking news right now in the east bay where oakland police have

quardened off an area around east 31st street and valesillo place where this pursuit ended. the driver apparently turned and came back down park boulevard eventually stopping near the hospital. officers have kaug -- caught one of the suspects. the other is at large. there's no word yet on what started the chase. an armed worker at each and every school in america. that's the proposal. >> the presence of an armed security or personnel in a school adds a layer of security and diminishes response time. >> reporter: i asked how much it would cost.

gun control legislation. in washington, jaqulin fell, ktvu channel 2 news. president oe what is planning to visit connecticut next week to step up the pressure on congress to pass gun control legislation -- president obama is planning to visit connecticut. the president's call for nationwide gun control faces widespread opposition from republicans as well as from many moderate democrats. a town in georgia has passed an unusual gun law kind of reminiscent of the old wild west. the city council in nelson georgia passed an ordnance last night that requires adults in the town of 1300 to own a gun. backers say what they're really trying to do here is make a point about gun rights. the ordnance goes in effect in 10 days however it does not contain any penalties. in about 10 minutes, how

are bay area schools and law enforcement reacting to the nra's plan? we asked a former officer who runs an emergency response team as well as a superintendent on whether that plan is even feasible. happening now, members of a san francisco hotel union are out on the street in support of a plan to add a union member to the hyatt corporation board of directors. these are pictures now, live pictures showing demonstrators outside a hyatt hotel. this is in union square. the union says adding a union member to the hyatt board will give workers a vote and how hyatt operates. the hotel chain had no comment today on this plan. what we learned today that those busted bolts on the eastern span of the bay bridge that we first reported last week they were suspect before they were even installed. tom vacar has been following these new developments and he joins joins us now. >> did caltrans simply trust too much or did it believe what

car into a wal-mart store and then attacking customers appeared in court today. we have video from you tube taken by customers who witnessed the incident. four people were injured. today he appeared in court to face charges unrelated to sunday's incident. they stem from a drug arrest last year. also allegations that zaid gave false information to authorities. >> the da is going to argue that he had an opportunity for treatment of his drug problem. he didn't take that opportunity and now we have a very serious case before the court. so that's going to hurt him. >> reporter: zaid is expectedded to return to court to face charges related to that incident at that wal-mart store as early as tomorrow. we're learning more tonight about a strange situation in lafayette that led police to shoot a man outside the

expensive home where he lived. lauren blanco is live tonight with what she's been able to piece together about what happened. >> reporter: i just got a phone call from lafayette police, the man who wielded the knife at officers is at the hospital and is undergoing emergency surgery. you can see behind me there are broken windows but those windows were shattered before his run in with police. >> reporter: broken glass and ripped drapes spilling out of a top story window. the series of shattered glass may help investigators figure out what happened at this large lafayette home. >> it's shocking but things like that happen. >> reporter: around 7:00 this morning a series of 911 calls came from the home but the caller kept hanging out. so lafayette police dropped by to check it out. >> they approached the resident, subject came out of the home had a knife. the officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife. several minutes later shots erupted from the officers. >> it sounded like bang, bang,

involved shooting in lafayette history. there's new information tonight about the parolee suspected of killing colorado's prisons chief last month. evan evels electronic bracelet stopped working. it wasn't until hours before the shooting that parol officers went to check on evels. but by that time he was gone. evidence at the scene connected him to the death of the prisons chief. another prominent republican senator announced his support for same-sex marriage. mark kirk of illinois posted on his blog today that quote, life comes down to who you love and who loves you. and the government has no place in the middle. senator kirk is the ranking republican lawmakers in illinois. today's announcement comes less than three weeks since portman

elementary school in san jose and you can see how easy it is to get on campus. but there that comes to arming teachers is a new debate. coleman a former police officer and sheriff deputy runs cirque. a san jose center to train people to move into security jobs. coleman has been preparing for the school shield program which includes arming teachers and he plans to make presentations to local school districts. >> we started making programs and ideas of school situations. and scenarios where we can put the teachers in these situations and see how they respond, how they react. >> reporter: alam rock school district superintendent says the program could work for some districts but he's skeptical. >> i don't think public

the highway patrol says the driver of a concrete truck that may have been going too fast when the truck flipped over in san jose during the morning commute. that driver suffered minor injuries in the accident. it happened on the ramp from 280 to highway 101 just before 6:30 this morning. the mixer remained on its side until the roadway was cleared about three hours later. the highway connector ramp was also closed. that caused as you can imagine long traffic back ups. the highway patrol is investigating whether a yellow cab driver was intoxicated during an early morning

accident. the driver lost control at highway 101 and milbrae avenue. officers gave the driver a breathalyzer test but results have not yet been reported. the sound of symphony music returned to davies hall in san francisco today. after a 2-1/2 week strike the san francisco symphony played a concert today before a young crowd of school children. musicians and symphony management reached a tentative deal over the weekend and now plans to play all concerts scheduled for the remainder of their season. today the symphony's director called the agreement the best outcome they could hope for. >> i guess we all realized that it was important that we engage in thoughtful discussions and thoughtful negotiations in order to move this forward. we're very happy about this and we're ready to move forward in

connecticut is accused of selling more than $300,000 of meth while running an adult video and sex toy shop. prosecutors say walen got the meth mailed to him from california and used the sex shop to launder profits. as part of his plea deal, walen faces 11 to 15 years many prison. walen resigned his priest position back in november. emergency crews found 30- year-old craig fuget hanging by a rope outside a high rise early yesterday morning. it's believed that he accidentally hanged himself. investigators say they later found a bottle of spray paint on a near by balcony. fuget reportedly grew up in concord, was recently living in vancouver washington and told family members he planned to move to sacramento. a new look at that florida sink hole that swallowed up a man sleeping in his room.

good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. we begin with breaking news that we are following right now from palo alto. we have learned that a car has driven into a home on boise avenue. news chopper ( -- news chopper 2 is over head and has spotted the scene but it is unclear what's going on on the ground. you see there the car in the house. we're also told that that car hit a pedestrian on the front yard. we don't yet have a condition for that person. we are also told that the driver was taken to the hospital and that the home is now going to be red tagged because of the damage. residents in a usually quiet oakland neighborhood are on edge tonight after a paramedic may have been shot in his own car. it happened on keller avenue
