crowd, that has now filled pacific and baker here. there are a number of different groups out here. the dominant message for president obama tonight is say no to the proposed keystone oil pipeline. now, the president may hear about these protesters out here, but it's not clear if he'll ever actually see them. police and secret service have blocked off the streets here around the getty mansion. that, of course, is where the president obama, mr. obama, will be attending a democratic fund-raisers tonight. it's an annual fund-raisers. last year it raised $1.7 million. the protesters are hoping to get his attention. this would be his second stop of the night. so first we want to toss to mike mibach, who is in the city's sea cliff neighborhood, where they're also waiting for the president's arrival. mike? >> reporter: eric, security is very tight here in sea cliff. we just got word from an

officer that this neighborhood is in lockdown. that means residents are not even being allowed to get into their homes now that the president is so close to arriving here. mr. obama coming to the neighborhood for a private fund- raising cocktail party being hosted by billionaire tom steyer. steyer, a very vocal critic of the pipeline extension that would transport crude oil from canada to the gulf coast. it is up to the president to give that pipeline the green light. it is believed tom steyer will use this opportunity to drill home to the president why the pipeline should not exist. we caught up to a north bay congressman. >> i'll be one of those pushing on the president to reject this project. it's going to take us in the wrong direction. it's going to cause enormous environmental damage. >> reporter: and a new pugh research poll released just

this week, 66% of u.s. adults favor the pipeline. 22% actually oppose it. the president is set to make a decision on the pipeline by the end of summer. of course, again, we are live here in sea cliff. we'll be keeping an eye out for that motorcade as the president makes his way to the neighborhood. more details now on the keystone pipeline. the project is a 1700 mile pipeline that would transport crude oil from canada all the way to the gulf coast of mexico. the controversy is over this northern half, which still needs to be approved by the state department and signed off on by the president. the canadian government and oil companies support the pipeline, because they say it would mean a friendier oil supplier. and some unions support it because it would generate jobs. environmentalists oppose it,

who say it creates more greenhouse gas emissions. ranchers are worried about oil spills. the president has a busy schedule during his two-day visit, raising money for democratic candidates for congress. any minute, he is set to speak at a reception once he gets there in sea cliff. then at 8:00, the president will head to the getty mansion for dinner. tomorrow, the president heads to the peninsula. that will be held in atherton. ktvu.com has complete coverage of the president's visit to the area. we will be posting videos and pictures of the president's shot. 37-year-old pablo ramirez was shot in the chest in a parking lot. it happened during a struggle with narcotics agents, who approached the car that ramirez

was sitting in. ramirez was wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon conviction. the driver of the car was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. today, the 28-year-old man shot by police in lafayette was identified as michael shock. shock is still in the hospital and under arrest. shock was shot yesterday outside a home by police responding to a 911 hang-up call. the sheriff's department says shock threatened officers with a knife and they shot him when they say he advanced toward them in a threatening manner. a hayward man was sentenced to life. he was convicted of three counts of second-degree murder. police said he crashed his mazda into a big rig in december of 2009 while trying to get away from sheriff's deputies. an 18-year-old man, 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were

killed. a fourth passenger suffered serious injuries. today a 31-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison for raping a woman at santa rosa junior college last year. marco vargas pleaded no contest to the charges. the 24-year-old victim says she knew vargas from a dance class at the college. he has more than a year's credit for time served in the county jail and will likely spend another 18 months in prison. one year after a federal crackdown on an oakland medical marijuana center, there have been no charges filed over the raid. one man faces federal charges of assaulting an officer during the protest outside. dea and irs agents raided the university april 2nd of last year. the warrant is under seal. advocates say agents detained

and questioned the university president. disney says a small team will remain with the company to oversee licensing of star wars- themed video games. cisco is adding another cellar company to its portfolio. the networking giant bought ubiqwisis. cisco's ceo has said the company plans to keep using its horde of overseas cash to buy more companies rather than bring the money back into the u.s. to be taxed. we got a new look at the america's cup plans for the san francisco waterfront.

but there is growing frustration about the size of the events. the dispute is taking shape right along some world-class scenery. >> reporter: opening day for america's cup is the 4th of july. but already there are signs of fireworks between organizers and neighbors near the event. tickets for the 2013 america's cup went on sale today. whether it's $15 for a grandstand seat or $2,000 for a luxury season pass, organizers say they expect the races to sell out. >> this is the first time they can watch the races without having access to a boat. >> reporter: they showed off plans for the main sites where organizers will build a temporary pavilion to host 30 concerts, including artists such as sting and the doobie

brothers. the telegraph hill dwellers association says 30 shows are too many. >> i think everyone who lives in this neighborhood is used to fleet week and 4th of july. a few times a week year, they're either enjoying the chaos or living through it. but we're talking about week after week for months on end. >> reporter: organizers say races held last august and october show the city is ready for the big event and big crowds. >> last year was very important for us, how we would handle crowds and those sorts of things. we learned a lot. >> reporter: organizers say they'll place an acoustic curtain around the stage to reduce noise. reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. a neighborhood noise

dispute is headed to concord city officials. it stems from a child care center. neighbors have complained about the noise, parking and traffic issues ther but the child care operator is asking the city for a zoning permit to allow her to stay and operate out of her home. the meeting to approve the permit is set for 9 a.m. next wednesday. the california high-speed rail authority today is strongly denying a report that the cost of the rail line is going up. the mercury news says the budget for the bullet train has gone up 12% to $878 million. rail officials argued that the budget has not increased and is still within the amount approved by voters in 2008. >> just because there are amendments to contracts or there are going to be new contracts in this project, there's going to be a lot of that, doesn't mean it's not already anticipated or it isn't budgeted or it isn't in the overall project costs. >> opponents argue that regardless of whether the

happening now, hundreds of protesters marching down, not far from the getty mansion in san francisco's pacific heights neighborhood. they are protesting the president's visit tonight. most of them are upset about the keystone pipeline that would be built from canada to texas. now, the president has two fund- raising events in the city tonight. the first is actually in sea cliff. it is going to be hosted by billionaire investor tom steyer. tickets for that event go for about $5,000 a head. following that, the president will head to the getty mansion, which is in nearby pacific heights. tickets for that event are much more expensive, $32,500 per person. we have reporters covering the president's visit. we'll have more coverage for you possibly during this newscast and complete coverage coming up tonight on the 10:00

news. a south bay congressman joined advocates, demanding a path to citizenship as part of immigration reform. mike honda and the san jose city council held a press conference in front of san jose city hall. the group says lawmakers in washington need to understand that immigrants want to come out of the shadows. >> i think everyone is ready to work and be part of our society. we really just want immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. >> a bipartisan bill, including an earned path to citizenship, is expected from the u.s. senate sometime next week. president obama says he wants to share the sacrifice being made by federal workers who are on furlough due to budget cuts. an official said the president will return 5% of his salary to the treasury department each month for the rest of the year. that amounts to almost $1700 a month from the president's $400,000 annual salary. and new at 6, the longer

lines at airports that lawmakers threatened would become reality if the sequester cuts took effect apparently have not materialized. jacqueline has more. >> reporter: flights to major cities like new york, chicago and san francisco and others, could experience delays of up to 90 minutes. that was february 22, when the secretary, ray lahood, says delays would be caused to america's airports. he said flights would be delayed, or worse, cancelled. >> within the next 30 days. >> reporter: it's been six weeks since those warnings. i wanted to find out if travelers are feeling the budget ax that fell march 1. i found no signs of a 90-minute wait at san francisco. passengers at sfo are reporting waiting times of one to 30 minutes this past week.

sometimes, no waits at all. >> politicians try to give you the worst-case scenario for preparation. >> reporter: the department of transportation tells me in just a few weeks, this board is going to look a lot different. a d.o.t. spokesman tells me later this month, expect to see the word cancelled. they are sticking with lahood's warnings. the agency will start forcing 47,000 air traffic controllers and aviation inspectors to take days off. again, they warn wait times could be 60 to 90 minutes at peak airports. a pair of ospreys who made their home on top of a crane in san francisco have left their nest, but their past presence has now ignited a legal firestorm. john fowler is in san francisco tonight where he first found out about those nesting birds last summer.

john? >> reporter: on this pier 80 cargo crane, as recently as last week, a magnificent pair of nesting ospreys were setting up their nest. and it's the first ever in san francisco. but today, no more. the birds are still around, but the nest was removed by port crews. this photo from last wednesday shows a workers, where the nest had been. as we first told you last summer, a mating pair of osprey raised chicks here, a first for san francisco. active nests are federally protected. but last week, port crews came in. >> they had lowered the boom on the crane, the nest dumped. at that point, there was no way that the port could have known whether there were eggs in there or not. >> reporter: the port insists there was no active nest, maybe one under construction. >> that doesn't constitute a nest? >> reporter: the port says it needs the crane for cargo and

again, developing offshore. high clouds will be on the increase for tonight. it could wake you up first thing tomorrow morning. there's that timing once again. this front will be moving out to the east. as it does, the organized rainfall backs off quite a bit. still some scattered, occasional showers. there will be some more breaks into tomorrow night. as far as the sierra, for the snowfall, above the 7,000 feet, snowfall could be on the order of two to four inches. here's our forecast model. you'll see all the cloud cover, rainfall moving into the region tomorrow morning. this model kind of speeding things up a little. into the afternoon hour, clouds and off-and-on showers. we're still going to hold on to the chance of a shower throughout the afternoon. after today's warm day, everybody cools off a good five to ten degrees at least. the look ahead, your five-day forecast, we're gonna keep the clouds around for friday and
