early this morning. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. good morning, welcome to mornings on 2. it is sunday, april 7th. i'm claudine wong. >> good morning, everybody, i'm mike mibach. good morning to you, rosemary. >> good morning. another day, another slight chance at rain. we are waking up mostly cloudy this morning, a little bit of drizzle and a sprinkle or two a possibility this morning. i think for the afternoowe are going to be mostly cloudy, we are going to be mostly dry. i do see another opportunity at maybe a few scattered showers, later tonight while we are settled into our homes. temperatures are going to soar as we get into tuesday and wednesday. i'll show you these numbers. i'll have your numbers for today and what the futurecast model lay show when we may get a little bit of rain coming up. we begin this morning with breaking news from san francisco. police on the scene of an officer-involved shooting. lorraine blanco arrived at the scene and tells us two people

were shot. >> reporter: that's correct, those two people transported to san francisco general hospital critical condition with life threatening injuries. it turns out the suspect who was carrying the firearm was actually carrying a replica firearm and it happened across the street from the mission police station on that corner at 17th and valencia. after 2:00 a.m. right around the time when bars close, two groups of people got into an argument. one man pulled out what looked like a gun so a few people ran to the police station across the street and flagged down officers. the police chief tells us one officer saw the suspect pointing a firearm at someone else and an officer discharged his weapon hoping to protect bystanders not knowing the replica weapon was a firearm. >> in this instance it wasn't going up against police. this was a person who pulled a gun on someone else. the motivation pulling any firearm on somebody else is in the mind of the person who pulls it.

>> reporter: this was the scene at san francisco general hospital this morning. the two people shot by the officer have life threatening injuries as we said. transportation police -- san francisco police tell us they will update us if the conditions change. they are looking into whether the shooting and the incident are gang-related. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. we have learned that the man shot and killed in oakland friday night was a former photographer for the oakland tribune. a gunman opened fire at a valero gas station near mills college. 54-year-old lionel ray fluker was driving home from the gym when he was hit by a stray bullet. police say the intended target was critically wounded. fluker worked as a freelance photographer for the tribune for more than a decade covering some of the biggest stories. yesterday in a symbolic effort to honor him, someone tied film to a pole right near the crime scene. >> the most important thing about him was his life for life, oakland and his family, and i hope that the rest of us

can live our lives the same way. >> fluker's 20-year-old daughter attends college in atlanta. so far police have not made any arrests. we have new information this morning about a fuel leak that forced caltrain to temporarily suspend service between san bruno and south san francisco overnight. officials say service has been fully restored and the first train scheduled to leave san jose on schedule in about 25 minutes. service temporarily halted last night when a train hit a piece of metal debris causing more than 700 gallons of fuel to spill. >> the locomotive struck a piece of metal debris about 3 feet long and shaped like a tube. >> officials say the fuel does not pose a threat to the environment. new video this morning of an overflow parking lot near the oracle arena in oakland where several cars were broken into. last night the arena hosted pop 2013 a popular rave concert and then early this morning as rave

goers returned to their vehicles they found several parking spots covered with glass from broken windows. all of the damaged cars were parked in an overflow parking lot near bart on 73rd avenue. new this morning, secretary of state john kerry is mourning the death of a u.s. diplomate killed in afghanistan. >> young 25-year-old woman with all of the future ahead of her, believing in the possibilities of diplomacy, of changing people's lives. >> 25-year-old ann smittinghoff was one killed. her death is a grim reminder is the dangers facing foreign service workers, kerry said. first u.s. diplomate to die on the job since the september 11th attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya the u.s. ambassador to libya chris stevens and three other americans were killed in that

attack. stevens was a graduate of peed mont high school -- piedmont high school and uc hastings college of the law in francisco/?txu. jerry brown leaves for china tomorrow where he hopes to attract billions of dollars in investments. he will be promoting california exports, tourism and green technologies in meetings with chinese business people. happening now, more than 5500 runners from 45 states and 15 countries are taking part in the rock 'n roll half marathon in san francisco this morning. the route going to take runners past crissy field, across the golden gate bridge and end at aquatic park. big day for the cal women's basketball team. the number 2 seed golden bears making their favorite final four appearance and they will take on the five seed louisville cardinals. that game starts at 3:30 this

afternoon at pappy's on telegraph avenue and berkeley is hosting a watch party. a louisville cardinals men's team in the final four. great to see them win, this is cal's first time in the final four for the women's basketball team. if you want to watch the games later today, get outside right now, do it because maybe rain later in the afternoon? >> i think it's going to come in the evening hours. i think we will pretty much miss it. we will be in pretty good shape. this morning a little bit of drizzle starting out like yesterday, partly sunny skies over parts of the bay area as well. i think we are actually going to give you a shot of that. wow, what a beautiful golden hugh over the sky -- hew over the sky there. sun setting close to 7:40 this evening so plenty of time to have that date light. we don't -- i don't expect to see a whole lot of sunshine in most of the bay area communities as well as the coast because socked in pretty good by mid and high clouds.

a few low clouds out there this morning, perhaps fog along the coastline. temperatures like we started yesterday, 54 napa, upper 50s in oakland, 54 degrees redwood city, low 50s in antioch and 53 degrees in fairfield. i want to show you the satellite and radar. notice not picking up any green at this point. perhaps a little bit of drizzle falling below the radar in some areas. i have to get all the way north, northwest corner of california here, even crescent city and eureka not really reporting any rain at this time. we have a weak system moving through and so we do have that slight possibility. take a look here, see just a few speckles on the screen as we get into the 8:00 hour, still showing up, so a light rain, drizzle a possibility for the morning hours. as we get into the afternoon, i don't see any. 11:00 or so, still mostly cloudy into the afternoon, we are mostly cloudy but mainly dry. as we get into the evening hours we settle in for tonight, maybe you're watching mark

pressure moving in, that is going to produce gusty conditions over the hills as well as along the coast lines so we may be a little breezy on monday but by tuesday notice that, upper 70s, low 80s in the forecast, little taste of summer, it doesn't look like it's going to last for too long. by thursday temperatures falling back into the mid-70s but still a good looking forecast there. back to the desk. putting on the pressure, thousands rally for immigration reform. the bill that would change the path for citizenship. and the effort to get a reliable police radio system hits a snag. why the department's efforts to join a regional system has been stopped. and right now police in nevada trying to identify a body found in the carson city river. the state official who investigators think it may be. a live look outside on this sunday morning. that is 101 in san francisco. there is a possible water main break near grove and cole in san francisco. we are making some phone calls in the newsroom on that right now and give you an update as

thank you for joining us on this sunday morning. a look over the bay under mostly sunny skies, a slight chance for light showers in the forecast today. oakland's plan to upgrade its police radio system may have hit a snag. the department wants to join a new regional system which includes neighboring agencies in alameda and could contra costa counties. the agency that runs the system blocked oakland from its new network unless the city pays millions of dollars to become a member. the department has had several problems with its current radio system most notably during

president obama's visit last summer. jean quan scheduled to give an update on a program designed to provide identification cards for undocumented immigrants. the card would serve as prepaid debit cards for oakland residents who do not have access to banking services. the cards have been controversial. they come with fees higher than other prepaid debit cards on the market. thousands took to the streets in two u.s. cities this weekend to call for immigration reform. members of congress and religious leaders joined a crowd of 2000 at a rally in new jersey -- or jersey city, more than 700 people also marched for immigration reform in boston. the rallies are intended to put pressure on congress to provide legislation providing a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants. and congress may be close to doing that but that process to get citizenship could take at least 15 years.

the bill right now in the house would allow millions of undocumented immigrants to get a work permit after paying fines and back taxes and undergoing a criminal background check. after 10 years, immigrants could then apply for a green card, then citizenship after another five years. senate bill also calls for a 10- year wait for green card followed by a three-year wait for citizenship. police are still trying to positively identify the body of a man found in a carngs -- carson city river but they believe this could be nevada's chief insurance examiner. the body found in the river saturday. police believe it could be william mccune who has been missing since thursday. they are still trying to make a positive identification and determine a cause of death. >> i hope that we are able to put some information together soon for the public because i understand the reason why is actually part of the healing process. >> investigators say a break in the case came when some items

belonging to mccune were pawned in reno and north las vegas. four suspects in their early 20s have been arrested. four teenagers home safe this morning after being rescued off mount ominam by a helicopter. the teens were spotted on the west side of the mountain. a rescue helicopter was called in to pull out the four teenagers from the santa cruz mountains. none of them were injured. a family of five rescued from their submerged suv friday are from livermore. law enforcement officials say the family was driving on highway 50 when their suv hit a tree and then crashed right into the american river in el dorado county. a kayaker spotted the vehicle and helped three children get to safety. nearby firefighters were able to rescue the parents. all five were transported to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. the search still on in marin county for a suspected car thief who escaped from deputies friday. police say that suspect threatened to kill deputies when they tried to stop him in petaluma two days ago.

he eventually drove to wood acre where he fled on foot. sometime that anaheim 2 miles -- night 2 miles from where police were searching for him, a blue 2009 toyota highlander was stolen. the suspect is described as a white man between 20 and 30 years old, 160 pounds, 5'8" tall with his hair pulled back perhaps in a ponytail. warning this morning from fremont police after a woman said she was assaulted during a home break-in. it happened just after 7:00 on thursday night while the woman was cleaning a home on spezia terrace. she was upstairs when a man grabbed her from behind, she broke away, ran outside and told neighbors to call 911. she described the man to police as someone in his 30s with a medium complexion, 5'8" tall, about 165 pounds. he has black hair, cut in a bowl shape and was wearing dark clothing. belmont police are investigating three home burglaries that they say could be connected to a string of

others along the peninsula. the burglaries happened in a span of eight hours on friday near notre dame university. police received a tip from a neighbor who said someone had knocked on their door to ask about selling their car which wasn't for sale. officers say similar to recent burglaries in san mateo and hillsborough where the burglars knock on the door to see if anyone is home and breaks in if no one answers. crews starred work -- started working on a memorial playground in honor of a child that was killed in a sandy hook shooting. the playground is in union beach new jersey and named after 6-year-old jack pinto. that playground is one of 26 being built as part of sandy ground project where angels play. they will be in areas devastated by superstorm sandy and each playground named after one of the 26 children and educators who were gunned down in december. the wounds from last year's oycost university shooting may still be raw. for some last night's memorial

concert helped continue the healing process. the event was held in honor of the seven people shot and killed at oycost university in oakland last april 2nd. none of the victims' families attended. their grief and sadness still too strong. many of the concert musicians are korean american or korean immigrants like the suspected shooter but say it was important to take part in tonight's performance. >> it is very special concert for us and everyone write down all the meaning of the song and they really sing it, really meant it. >> donations were collected at last night's performance for the families of the seven people killed in the shooting. in pleasant hill an effort underway to save an old movie theater from being demolished. about a dozen people signs in hand stood outside the center arts theater yesterday afternoon. the box office will close two weeks from today because the theater is being replaced with a sporting goods store.

the theater opened in 1967 with its signature dome shape and many people just don't want to see it gone. >> loved by a lot of people. there's a lot of potential for this to be an important historical and cultural resource for the area. >> the developer already has a demolition permit and a sporting good store expected to open in 10 months. the movie based on the shooting death of oscar grant will be released sooner than planned. >> you guys got plans for the night? >> yeah, nothing major though. i meet up with the fellas, head out to the city. >> why don't you take the train out there. >> fruitvale follows grant's last 24 hours before his death at the park station. the movie was supposed to be released in october but now open on july 26th. fruitvale debuted oscar buzz when it was played at the film

one south african man taken to the skies to honor his former president nelson mandela. yesterday under the power of 200 helium filled balloons, matt silver velance floated up from rockland island. this is where mandela spent 18 of his 27 years as a political prisoner. the flight took place a few hours before mandela was released from the hospital. he was inspired by the former leader. >> ultimately the risk that we are taking here, all very controlled and the risks compared to what nelson mandela took were tiny. >> the balloon flight was to raise money for the nelson

mandela children's fund. the goal of the charity is to build a children's hospital inio hans -- in johannesburg. he was being treated for pneumonia. mandela has been dealing with respiratory problems since contracting tuberculosis in prison. he will now receive care at home. this was his third trip to the hospital since december. this weekend washington state governor jay inslee is surveying the damage from a massive landslide on whidbey island. people living in 34 home were forced to evacuate after a 1000- foot chunk of that hillside gave way. most of the people there say their insurance policies don't cover damage from landslides. >> enormous movement of earth. whatever you have seen on television, it's a lot bigger in person. but it's inspiring to see what the whidbey community has done to come together. >> no one was hurt. at least eight homes are seriously damaged or considered

skies, 67 in mountainview, upper 60s livermore, concord, 63 san rafael, 65 in napa, 64 for santa rosa. the extended forecast here once we get into tomorrow, back to work, clearing out, breezy, because our weather pattern transitioning to a warmer pattern. take a look, as we get into tuesday and wednesday, upper 70s to low 80s for the warmest communities. doesn't look to last too long. we will watch those afternoon highs slide back into the mid- 70s but tuesday, wednesday, thursday all pretty nice days under mostly sunny skies and mild to warm conditions. back to you. a pennsylvania baseball team is celebrating baseball season by going bald. after yesterday's game, players with the temple owl team stepped up to the plate and shaved their heads. it was all part of a charity event called baseballs. all the money raised goes to fund childhood cancer research. it was started by coach ryan wheeler who lost his father to lung cancer three years ago.

a confrontation outside a bar in san francisco leads to an officer-involved shooting. welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike mibach. that shooting happened right across the street from the police station in the mission district. ktvu's lorraine blanco is live there now to tell us why that officer opened fire. lorraine. >> reporter: mike, two people in critical condition this morning. one of those people the

the incident is gang-related. back out here live, you can see police are just taking down the police tape here so looks like the scene will open up and we will try to get closer for you the next time we see you in about half an hour. reporting live in the mission district, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. one man is in police custody this morning after a fatal shooting in concord. police say around 8:30 last night two men got into a fight on mccasa court off monument boulevard. the fight quickly escalated into a shooting. 25-year-old brentwood resident ismael garcia ramirez died at the scene. 29 cardinals concord resident ---year-old concord resident vincent ochoa was arrested. a college student killed in san francisco while home on spring break has been laid to rest. a funeral was held yesterday for a 19-year-old jacob --

valdive. zo was shot and killed on friday. he may have been mistaken for a gang member. he was a sophomore at lewis and clark college in oregon where he played on a football team. >> i can't really believe they could. he's a peaceful kind of person and i never saw him got angry so when i heard this it was unbelievable. >> no arrests have been made in the case. this morning san francisco police are reviewing surveillance video in hopes of identifying the people who stabbed two tourists outside a hotel. it happened friday night outside the best western on seventh and minam. a rowdy group of people asked to use the bathroom at a hotel and then got into a fight with the tourists who were checking in. two men were stabbed and a woman beaten, all three victims are expected to survive. the war on terror could fund drones in the bay area. the contra costa time reports law enforcement agencies in high risk areas can apply for a share of a $26 million grant from the department of homeland

security. the alameda county sheriff's department, san mateo county, san francisco and san jose have all made requests for funds to purchase drones. the bay area is considered a high risk area for terrorism due to landmarks like the golden gate bridge and targets like the shell oil refinery, lawrence livermore lab and bart. new this morning, the u.s. is delaying a planned missile test as tensions rise with north korea. the ballistic missile test scheduled to take place tuesday at vandenberg air force base in southern california but chuck hagel delayed the tests amid concerns it could heighten the conflict with north korea. north korea threatened the united states with a nuclear strike and says it is in a state of war with south korea. meantime south korea's top military officer is postponing a planned visit to the u.s. the chairman of south korea's joint chiefs of staff had planned to meet with his u.s. counterpart general martin dempsey in washington later this month but officials say south korea's military officials can't be away at a time when north korea

is threatening to attack. as tensions continue to escalate between the north and south, we are learning more about north korea's leader kim jong-un who took over power from his father in december of 2011. coming up in our next hour, we take a closer look at the people he surrounds himself with including his relationship to the country's most powerful woman. the sequester is taking a toll on families struggling to afford their rent. thousands of people in the bay area rely on rental subsidies from the government section 8 voucher program but housing authorities now facing millions of dollars in budget cuts and that means less assistance is available. santa clara county's housing authority has lost $21 million in funding, oakland's housing authority saw an $11 million cut. the san francisco housing authority is facing a $9.4 million funding cut. the sequester also forced the cancellation of a planned jet flyover at the giants home opener. all ceremonial military flyovers were halted as of april 1st due to that $41 billion in budget cuts.

a fireboat in mccovey cove did shoot water several hundred feet into the air instead but many spectators in at&t park couldn't see it from their vantage point. this afternoon the san francisco giants will receive those world championship rings out at the ballpark. buster posey adding to his own hardware collection yesterday. posey handed the most valuable player award. giants down 1-0, not for long. next inning pablo sandoval digging one out for an rbi hit. giants in front. but in the fifth the cardinals score three. the west coast's longest surviving heart transplant patient has a wish and that's to see a giants baseball game. 23-year-old brandon dyboahl received a heart transplant and right now he's -- today he will

just -- well, plenty of cloud but a little bit of sunshine. i think we will see that little bit of sunshine throughout parts of the day today but we will be partly sunny, mostly cloudy, at least for most of it. by the second half, late in the afternoon, a lot like yesterday, we will see more sunshine. here we are making up this morning, stormtracker 2 showing us hard pressed to see any rain, may have a little bit of drizzle falling but that's about it. in the futurecast model, also having a hard time picking up on any rain. weak system moving through, over portions of northern california we have a few sprinkles but here in the bay area, don't see a lot. i'm going to stop it here at 10:00 because i spot a cell there off the coastline. we had some drizzle along the santa cruz mountains yesterday, the north bay picked up a few 100th so we have seen a little bit of rain but most of us not so much. into the afternoon we are still mostly cloudy but notice they thin out a little bit, so partly sunny, partly cloudy. now we are into sunday night and this may actually be our best chance at seeing some rain. that low is finally sweeping

the purpose of the ball is to invite spectators to use their imaginations. that big red ball is currently in san francisco and is going to be moving around the city for the next three days. this morning officials in israel say a planned cyber attack did not cause a major disruption. the warnings by the group anonymous that said it would take down the country's network. the hacking began this morning. the bureau of statistics site was down but did not say if it had been hacked. with the april 15th tax filing date fast approaching there's concern that the irs will be snooping for personal information about taxpayers online. the irs has been known to check car records, employment documents and other public records. now social media pages are on that list. this year the agency will be using sites like facebook and twitter to catch people trying to beat the system. that has some folks concerned  but others say privacy is a personal responsibility. >> if you haven't taken the measures to actually make your

canada are finding out their chemotherapy doses were diluted. over the past week hospitals have been contacting the patients and telling them their chemo was watered down with saline. one couple in canada is now dealing with the news that they both received diluted treatments. >> it just kind of throws you right back into where you were because we don't know what the next steps are, we don't know what's in store for us. >> they say they received a letter last thursday about the mishap. the couple has not been able to speak with their oncologist but say they want answers. ontario's premiere as promised to launch an investigation into the diluted drugs. new details are emerging about the oklahoma dentist's office at the center of a public health scare. state investigators are now revealing that among the many violations, the doctor would wrap his instruments in cloth diapers and then transport them between his offices. they say that's particularly dangerous because that is how equipment can get contaminated. officials say as many as 7000 patients could have been

exposed to hiv or hepatitis during a visit to that doctor's office. the state's board of dentistry says it's seeking criminal charges against the doctor but officials warn their investigation could take a long time. as many as 450 people in new york may have been exposed to the hepatitis a virus from eating at the restaurant there on your screen. friday the new york city health department warned of possible exposure at alta. people who visited that eatery between march 23rd and april 2nd are at risk. patrons may have been exposed from eating a dessert made by an infected worker. management is cooperating with the investigation. they say about 3000 people visited that restaurant during the dates in question. students at a massachusetts middle school will receive free lunches next week after being told they could not eat. last week 25 of the middle school students were not served lunch. food service employees say it's because their prepaid accounts ran low. parents were outraged saying their children came home crying because they just weren't given lunch.

officers. when they got near the scene, one officer saw the suspect pointing the firearm which turned out to be a replica firearm at someone else and the officer discharged his weapon hoping to protect people in the area. still unclear how or why the second person was shot. >> at this point we believe he was also struck by a bullet from the officer that was also there at the scene, so at this point we believe he is involved in that confrontation but to what extent is still under investigation. >> reporter: and this was the scene at san francisco general hospital early this morning. the two people shot by the officer have life threatening injuries. police are looking into whether the incident is gang-related. the officer who discharged his weapon is on routine paid administrative leave. live in the city's mission district, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> this is the second officer- involved shooting involving a replica of a handgun in the last 48 hours. on friday police opened fire on a burglary suspect in west oakland who they say was

carrying a fake weapon that looked like a glock handgun. police say replicas of guns can be purchased at sporting good stores for less than $100. the man was shot in the shoulder and expected to survive. we have learned a man who was shot and killed in oakland on friday night was a former photographer with the oakland tribune. the gunman opened fire at a valero gas station near mills college. 54-year-old lionel fluker was driving home from the gym when he was hit by a stray bullet. police say the intended target was critically wounded. fluker worked as a freelance photographer for the oakland tribune for more than a decade covering some of the biggest stories. yesterday in a symbolic effort to honor him, someone tied film to a pole near the crime scene. >> the most important thing about him was his love for life, oakland and his family. and i hope that the rest of us can live our lives the same way. >> fluker's 20-year-old daughter attends spelman college in atlanta. so far police have not made any arrests.

in overnight news, someone has broken into at least 10 cars in an overflow parking lot near oracle arena in oakland. last night the arena hosted pop 2013 a popular rave concert and this morning as rave goers were returning to their vehicles, around a dozen parking spots were covered with glass. all of the damaged cars were parked in an overflow parking lot near bart on 73rd avenue. this morning caltrain service fully restored following a fuel leak that forced service between bruno and south san francisco to be suspended overnight. thousands of gallons of fuel spilled after a train hit a piece of metal debris on the tracks. crews worked through the night to clear the tracks. >> the locomotive struck a piece of metal debris, it was about 3 feet long and shaped like a tube. >> officials say fuel does not pose a threat to the environment. new this morning, secretary of state john kerry is mourning the death of a u.s. diplomate

killed in afghanistan. >> young 25-year-old woman with all of the future ahead of her believing in the possibilities of diplomacy, of changing people's lives. >> 25-year-old ann smittinghoff was one of six americans who died in attacks yesterday in the country. during a visit with u.s. consulate workers in istanbul, kerry says her death is a grim reminder of the dangers facing foreign service workers. smithhoff the first u.s. -- smittinghoff the first to die in attack -- the u.s. ambassador to libya chris stevens and three other americans were killed in that attack. stevens was a graduate of piedmont high school, uc berkeley and u.s. hastings college of law in san francisco. governor jerry brown leaves tomorrow for china where he hopes to attract billions of dollars in new investments. brown will be promoting california exports, tourism and green technologies in meetings with china's business leaders. he also plans to open a foreign trade office in shanghai.

thank you for joining us on this sunday. a mix of sunshine and clouds outside our doors this morning and the opportunity of a few light showers passing over for today. oakland's plan to upgrade its police radio system may have hit a snag. the department wants to join a new regional system which includes neighboring agencies in alameda and contra costa counties but according to the contra costa times the agency that runs the system has blocked oakland from its new network unless the city pays millions of dollars to become a member. the department has had several problems with its current radio system most notably during president obama's visit last summer. oakland mayor jean quan scheduled to give an update today on a program designed to provide identification cards for undocumented immigrants. the cards would also serve as prepaid debit cards for oakland residents who do not have access to banking services. the cards, though, have been controversial. consumer advocates say they come with fees that are higher

than other prepaid debit cards on the market. thousands took to the streets in two u.s. cities this weekend to call for immigration reform. members of congress and religious leaders joined a crowd of 2000 at a rally in jersey city, more than 700 people also marched for immigration reform in the city of boston. organizers say the rallies are intended to put pressure on congress to pass legislation providing a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants. and congress may be close to doing just that but that process to get citizenship could take at least 15 years. a bill right now in the house would allow millions of undocumented immigrants to get a work permit after paying fines and back taxes and undergoing a criminal background check. after 10 years, immigrants could then apply for a green card, then citizenship after another five years. a senate bill also calls for a 10-year wait period for the green card followed by a three-

year wait for citizenship. police are still trying to positively identify the body of a man found in a carson city river but they believe it could be nevada's missing chief insurance examiner. the body was found in the river on saturday. police believe it could be william mccune who has been missing since thursday. police suspect foul play based on evidence found in mccune's apartment but they are still trying to make a positive identification and determine a cause of death. >> i hope that we are able to put some information together soon for the public because i understand that reason why is actually part of the healing process. >> investigators say a break in the case came when some items belonging to mccune were pawned in reno and north las vegas. four suspects in their early 20s have been arrested. four bay area teenagers home safe after being rescued off mount uminum by a helicopter. a chp airplane was sent to pick

up the hikers. a rescue helicopter was then called in to pull out the four teenagers. none of them were injured. a family of five rescued from their submerged suv on friday are from livermore. law enforcement officials say the family was driving on highway 50 when their suv hit a tree and crashed right into the american river in he el dorado county. a kayaker spotted the family and were able to get them to safety. all five taken to the hospital. the search still on in marin county for a suspected car thief who escaped from deputies. this started on friday when police say the suspect threatened to kill deputies when they threatened to stop him in put laundry room -- petaluma. a blue 2009 toyota highlander was stolen. police believe the suspect may have fled in that stolen vehicle and could be headed to the sanger -- san jeronimo

where the burglars knock on the door to see if anyone is home and breaks in if no one answers. crews started working on a memorial playground in honor of a child who was killed in the sandy hook shooting. the playground in union beach, new jersey and going to be named after 6-year-old jack pinto. that playground is one of 26 being built as part of the sandy ground project where angels play. they will all be in areas devastated by superstorm sandy, each playground will be named after one of the 26 children and educators who were gunned down in december. the wounds from last year's oy dos university -- oikos university shooting may still be strong but last night concert intended to help the healing process. >> the event was held in honor of the seven people shot and killed at oikos university in oakland last april 2nd. university officials say none of the victims' families attended because their grief and sadness still too strong. many of the concert's musicians are part of the korean american community which was deeply

night. the roof of the three story building collapsed underneath him. almost one year ago two other firefighters in philadelphia were killed also fighting a fire. >> we will be remembering during a memorial for two firefighters who lost their lives on april the 9th just last year. so we are asking for prayers for all the entire department. >> a colleague who tried to save the firefighter was burned on his hands but is expected to survive. evangelical pastor rick warren is asking followers to pray for his family following the death of his son. yesterday 27-year-old matthew warren took his own life at his mission viejo home. his father says he suffered from depression and mental illness. rick warren is a controversial pastor known for his strong views against same-sex marriage and abortion. he delivered the the evocation of president obama. the daughter says her father would not have supported gun control measures.

diapers and then transport them between his offices. they say that's particularly dangerous because that is how equipment can get contaminated. officials say as many as 7000 patients could have been exposed to hiv or hepatitis during a visit to the dentist's office. the state board of dentistry says it is seeking criminal charges against the doctor but warned their investigation could take a long time. as many as 450 people in new york have been exposed to the hepatitis a virus from eating at a restaurant called alta. friday the new york city health department warned of the possible exposure at that restaurant. people who visited the eatery between march 23rd and april 2nd are at risk. patrons may have been exposed from eating a dessert made by an infected worker. management is cooperating with the investigation and they say about 3000 people visited that restaurant during the dates in question. students at a massachusetts middle school will receive free lunches next week after being told they couldn't eat. last week 25 of the middle school students were not served

lunch. food service employees say it's because their prepaid accounts ran low. parents were outraged, say their kids came home crying because they weren't given lunch. four of the employees have been fired. all students will receive three days of free lunches and the school is hosting a barbecue for students and families. this weekend washington state governor jay inslee is surveying the damage from a massive landslide on whidbey island. people living in 34 homes were forced to evacuate after a 1000- foot chunk of the hillside gave way. most say their insurance policies do not cover damage from landslides. >> enormous movement of earth and whatever you have seen on television, it's a lot bigger in person. but it's inspiring to see what the whidbey community has done to come together. >> no one was hurt during this slide. at least eight homes are seriously damaged or considered unstable. more than 200 emergency responders from all over the bay area are taking part in training exercises this weekend and in south san francisco those exercises are testing the

the city and the first runners should be crossing the finish line right about now. complete bay area news coverage continues. this is ktvu mornings on 2. good morning and welcome to mornings on 2. it is sunday, april 7th. i'm claudine wong. >> good morning, everyone. i'm mike mibach. get a quick check with rosemary on the sunday forecast. good morning, rosemary. >> good morning to you. we will be tied into this pattern for one more day. we are waking up with a little bit of fog over santa rosa along the coastline this morning, mostly cloudy skies, perhaps patches of drizzle falling out there. the radar not showing a whole lot. we will have a chance for a few light sprinkles throughout the day. although we will be mainly dry. i do see our best chance coming tonight. i'm going to show you that future forecast model and i have a warmup in the extended forecast. back to you. another officer-involved shooting in the bay area. this time in san francisco's mission district. ktvu's lorraine blanco joining us live now from the scene with more on what police say led up to this shooting. lorraine. >> reporter: mike, i just talked with a man who was here

when the fight started. he was too afraid to be on camera but he did tell us that it started at a bar that is just about a block from here on valencia. it's called the elbow room and he said it was hip hot night and the two groups of men were yelling and screaming as they got out of the bar and when they got to this corner over here, one man pulled out a firearm. now, police describe a similar scene, they say after 2:00 a.m. two groups of people got into an argument. one man pulled out what looked like a gun, so a few people ran to the mission police station across the street and flagged down officers. when officers got near the scene, they saw the suspect pointing the firearm at someone else. one officer discharged his weapon hoping to protect the people in the area. the suspect's gun turned out to be a replica firearm. one neighbor tells us he'd like to see a bigger police presence in the mission, especially on weekend nights. >> i think it would be a great idea to be able to go out in the evening and not have to worry about whether or not you're going to be involved in a shooting that has nothing really to do with you. people, they are not familiar that this neighborhood also has

like a sort of a crime problem in general. >> reporter: and this was the scene at san francisco general hospital where those two people were taken. the two people shot by the officer have life threatening injuries. police are looking into whether the incident is gang related. it's unknown why the suspect was carrying a replica gun. reporting live in san francisco, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> this is the 18th officer- involved shooting in just in a little bit over a month. besides the one we told you about in san francisco, two others happened last week in oakland. on friday police opened fire on a burglary suspect in west oakland who they say was carrying a fake weapon that looked like a glock handgun. the man was shot in the shoulder and is expected to survive. a 16-year-old boy was also shot in the face by oakland police wednesday after being mistaken for an armed robbery suspect. the teen was treated at the hospital for injuries to his jaw and released. the teen's family says it plans to sue the officer and the

city. and a few days before that, an officer-involved shooting reported in napa. it happened during an altercation between the suspect and narcotics officers. police say the officer had his gun drawn and shot the suspect in the chest when he was attacked. take a look again at the numbers. over the past 40 days there have been five officer-involved shootings in alameda county, four in san francisco, four in san jose, two in contra costa county, two in napa county and one in sonoma. caltrain service fully restored following a fuel leak that forced service between san bruno and south san francisco to be suspended overnight. 700 gallons of fuel spilled after a train hit a piece of medal de-- metal debris on the tracks. crews worked through the night to clear that debris. >> the locomotive struck a piece of metal debris. it was about 3 feet long and shaped like a tube. >> officials say the fuel does not pose a threat to the environment. in overnight news, at least

10 cars in an overflow parking lot near the oracle arena in oakland, last night the arena hosted pop 2013 a popular rave concert and then early this morning as rave goers were returning to their vehicles, around a dozen parking spots were covered with glass, all of those damaged cars were parked in an overflow parking lot near bart on 73rd avenue. we have learned a man who was shot and killed in oakland friday night was a former photographer for the oakland tribune. the gunman opened fire at a valero gas station at seminary avenue and macarthur boulevard near mills college. 54-year-old lionel ray fluker was driving home from the gym when he was hit by a stray bullet. police say the intended target was critically wounded. fluker worked as a freelance photographer for the oakland tribune for more than a decade covering some of the biggest stories. yesterday in a symbolic effort to honor him, someone tied film to a pole. >> the most important thing about him was his love for life, oakland and his family. and i hope that the rest of us

can live our lives the same way. >> fluker's 20-year-old daughter attends college in atlanta. so far police have not made any arrests. one man in police custody this morning after a fatal shooting in concord. police say around 8:30 last night two men got into a fight on mccasa court off monument boulevard. that fight quickly escalated into a shooting. 25-year-old brentwood resident eesh resident -- he is being charged with first-degree murder. new this morning, secretary of state john kerry is mourning the death of a u.s. diplomate killed in afghanistan. >> anne was everything that is right about our foreign service, she was smart and capable, committed to our country. i had the privilege of meeting her and mr. prime minister just a few days ago. >> 25-year-old anne smedinghoff one of six americans who died in attacks yesterday in the

country. during a visit with u.s. consulate workers in istanbul kerry says her death is a grim reminder of the dangers facing foreign service workers. she is the first u.s. diplomate to die on the job since the september 11th attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi libya. the u.s. ambassador to libya chris stevens and three other americans were killed in that attack. stevens was a graduate of piedmont high school, uc berkeley and u.s. hastings college of -- uc hastings college of law in san francisco. it's a gray start out there, giving you a live look from e-mailville towards the -- emeryville, san francisco, back drop. santa rosa reporting visibility down to a couple miles, half moon bay reporting visibility three to 6 miles. you can see here on our screen a lot of gray, not a lot of green, not seeing any radar returns this morning. maybe a little bit of drizzle falling below that radar that just swept through. 60 degrees in oakland, 57 sfo,

wednesday, thursday, widespread upper 70s to low 80s. tuesday and wednesday look to be the warmest days, slightly cooler on thursday. back to the desk. at 9:09 happening now, more than 5500 runners from 45 states and 15 countries are taking part in the rock 'n roll half marathon in san francisco this morning. we got these pictures from organizers. this is a look at some of the rock 'n rollers running that race. they look like they are having a good time. and here is a look at the start line near fort mason in venice. runners took off at 7:00 this morning and they are making their way across the golden gate bridge. you can see some of them still crossing. we have seen a steady stream of runners all morning long. they go across the bridge then head back to the aquatic park area. there are cheerleaders and bands along the course to encourage runners with a large concert at the end of the race. here's a look at the route map so if you are driving in that area, you should know that you could run into some closures and delays. some roads are actually going to be closed until 1:00 p.m.

live look at the oakland etch wary -- estuary this morning. a water main break in san francisco. this is happening on grove street near cole street in the panhandle, pg&e says gas is leaking from the location as well but that there is no danger to the public at this time. pg&e is looking into the source of that gas leak. four teenagers are home safe this morning after being rescued off mount umunhum by a helicopter. about 5:30 last night a chp airplane looking for the teenagers. they were spotted on the west side of the mountain. a rescue helicopter was then called in and pulled out.

the four teenagers, none were injured. a family of five rescued from their submerged suv friday are from livermore. law enforcement officials say the family was driving on  highway 50 when their suv hit a tree and crashed right into the american river in el dorado county. a kayaker spotted the vehicle and helped three children get to safety. nearby firefighters were able to rescue the parents. all five were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. in los angeles, the cause of a commuter train crash being investigated. 13 people were hurt yesterday when a metro link train crashed into a dump truck on the tracks. the impact caused the truck to flip over but the driver was not seriously hurt. 190 people were on the train when it crashed. >> again, just complaining of pain injuries, no broken bones that i'm aware of, no serious injuries. >> a metro link spokesperson said the gates were working at the time of the crash and the train was traveling at the posted speed limit. police are still trying to positively identify the body of a man found in a carson city river but they believe it could

be nevada's missing chief insurance examiner. the body found in the river on saturday. police believe it could be william mccune who has been missing since thursday. police suspect foul play based on evidence found in mccune's apartment. but they are still trying to make a positive identification and determine a cause of death. >> i hope that we are able to put some information together soon for the public because i understand that reason why is actually part of the healing process. >> investigators say a break in the case came when some items belonging to mccune were pawned in reno and north las vegas. four suspects in their early 20s have been arrested. the search still on in marin county for a suspected car thief who escaped from deputies on friday. law enforcement officials say the suspect threatened to kill deputies when they tried to stop him in petaluma two days ago, he eventually drove to woodacre where he fled on foot. sometime that night 2 miles from where police were searching, a blue 2009 blue

toyota highlander was stolen. police believe the suspect may have fled in that stolen vehicle and could be headed to the san jeronimo valley. 160 pounds, 5'8 tall with black hair or hair that's pulled back perhaps in a ponytail. a warning from fremont police after a woman said she was assaulted during a home break-in. it happened after 7:00 on thursday night while the woman was cleaning a home on spezia terrace. the woman told police she was upstairs when a man grabbed her from behind. she broke away, ran outside and told neighbors to call 911. she described the man to police as someone in his 30s with a medium complexion, 5'8 and about 165 pounds. he has black hair, cut in a bowl shape and was wearing dark clothing. the wounds from last year's oikos university shooting may still be raw but for some last night's memorial concert helped continue the healing process. ♪[ music ] >> the event was held in honor

of the seven people shot and killed at oikos university in oakland last april 2nd. university officials say none of the victims' families attended because their grief and sadness is still too strong. many of the concert musicians are part of the korean american community which was deeply affected by the shootings. they say it was important to take part in last night's performance. >> it is very special concert for us and everyone write down all the meaning of the song and, you know, they really -- when they sing the song, really meant it. >> donations were collected at last night's performance for the families of the seven people killed in the shooting. crews have started working on a memorial playground in honor of a child who was killed in a sandy hook shooting. the playground is in union beach new jersey and will be named after 6-year-old jack pinto. that playground is one of 26 being built as part of the sandy ground project where angels play. they will all be in areas devastated by superstorm sandy. each playground will be named

after one of the 26 children and educators who were gunned down in december. in pleasant hill an effort underway to save an old movie theater from being demolished. about a dozen people stood out the center arts theater yesterday afternoon. the box office will close two weeks from today because the theater is being replaced with a sporting goods store. the theater opened back in 1967 with its signature dome shape and many people just don't want to see it go. >> something that's beloved by a lot of people, there's a lot of potential for this to be an important historical and cultural resource for the area. >> the developer already has a demolition permit and the sporting good store is expected to open in 10 months. the movie based on the shooting death of oscar grant will be released sooner than planned. >> you guys got plans for the night? >> yeah, nothing major though. i meet up with the fellas, head out to the city. >> why you take the train out there? >> fruitvale follows grant's

last 24 hours before his death at the fruitvale bart station. the movie supposed to be released in october but now open in limited theaters on july 26th. fruitvale inspired early oz car buzz when it debuted at the sundance film festival in january. program designed to provide identification cards for undocumented immigrants. the cards would also serve as prepaid debit cards for oakland residents who do not have access to banking services but the cards have been controversial. consumer advocates say they come with fees that are higher than other prepaid debit cards on the market. thousands took to the streets in two u.s. cities this weekend to call for immigration reform. ♪[ music ] >> members of congress and religious leaders joined a crowd of 2000 at a rally in new jersey. more than 700 people also marched for immigration reform in boston. organizers say the rallies are intended to put pressure on congress to pass legislation providing a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million

after taking a trip to cuba. last week beyonce and her husband jay-z were photographed in havana. two republican lawmakers want the treasury department to look into the couple's vacation. the trip marks their fifth wedding anniversary. one south african man taking to the skies to honor former south african president nelson mandela. yesterday under the power of 200 helium balloons, matt silver-vallance floated up from robin island. this is where mandela spent 18 of his 27 years as a political prisoner. the flight took place a few hours before mandela was released from the hospital. vallance said he was inspired by the former leader. >> ultimately the risk that we are taking here it's all very controlled and the risks compared to what nelson mandela took were tiny. >> the balloon flight was to raise money for the nelson mandela's children's fund. the goal of the charity is to build a children's hospital in johannesburg to be named after

a 94-year-old mandela. this is video of nelson mandela being released from the hospital yesterday morning. he was being treated for pneumonia. the former president has been dealing with respiratory problems since contracting tuberculosis in prison. he is now going to get care at home. this was his third trip to the hospital since december. a pennsylvania baseball team celebrating this baseball season by going bald. after yesterday's game, players with temple owls stepped up to the plate and shaved their heads. it was all part of a charity event called base bald. all the money raised goes to fund childhood cancer research. it was started by coach ryan wheeler who lost his father to lung cancer three years ago. >> it really puts things in perspective, you know, when we are playing a baseball game and trying to win or lose, to see children have to suffer like that, it would just be -- it's beyond words. >> before yesterday's event,
