7:03 am
says half of the battle is getting victims to come forward. >> when it does actually get reported, it's a positive thing because it means that the system is working and it means the student had enough faith in what we do to come forward. they felt safe and they could come and get resources. >> reporter: police say the suspect is white. he's a male, 21 years old. about 6'1" with a medium build, brown hair an blue eyes. officials were notified about the crime when a local hospital contacted police after treating the victim. they sent an e-mail crime alert to all students. anyone with information about this assault is urged to contact the morago police department. live in morago, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. just hours ago -- strong winds in fairfield this morning fanned huge flames at a garage fire. firefighters had a tough time dealing with it. look at this. huge flames. this was on marigold drive. now, firefighters got there.
7:04 am
the fire started about 4:30. they did have it contained about an hour ago. worries about the strong winds prompted a big response, more than normal from the firefighters. some of the nearby homes were briefly evacuated as a precaution. luckily, no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is still being investigated. 7:03. tonight, san francisco police will host a town hall meeting about sunday's police shooting in the mission district. it happened at 17th and valencia streets around 2:00 a.m. police say two groups of people argued outside of a bar. police officers opened fire after a man in the crowd pulled out something that looked like a gun. but it turned out to be a fake weapon. tonight's meeting will start at 5:00 at cornerstone church. 7:04. plans are in the works to build up the entertainment scene right near the 49ers new stadium in santa clara. christien kafton is live from a santa clara property.
7:05 am
this may be taken over to make room for an entertainment hub. what's that all about? >> reporter: yeah, we've actually moved here onto the santa clara tennis and golf club. you can see golfers now getting ready to hit the fairways out here. the idea would be to tear down this course and put in a new entertainment and retail district. now, the new 49ers' stadium is located directly across the street. it's still under construction but a developer from one of the related companies is looking at this nearby 230-acre lot that's now a golf course. there were plans to turn it into a santana row-type entertainment district. this site is just adjacent to the site where joe montana would like to build a hotel complex. right now, this site is the location of the city-owned golf and tennis club and a bike track. the site is a former landfill. so any developer would have to
7:06 am
look at cleaning up the site and possibly moving or rebuilding a scaleddown nine- hole golf course. some say this is exactly the type of project that the city was counting on when they replace the stadium. they are hoping it will replace the one downtown torn down in the 1950s and '60s. some golfers say they don't want to lose the course but they understand the city has to make decisions in its own best financial interest. no word on how much the project would cost or exactly how long it would take. again, the santa clara city council set to consider this issue tonight. back to you. 7:06. we're just getting word that the two troops killed in afghanistan today in a helicopter crash were americans. a local afghan official says the helicopter crash-landed in a field because of mechanical problems. he says another helicopter that was flying with the first one landed near the crash site.
