time now. at 4:29 let's go back to the desk. >> thank you very much. we begin billion over night trouble in one oakland neighborhood. it involved a car, a fire hydrant, and a tire shop. tara moriarty joins us live from the scene at 50th salve. tara, what can you tell us? >> reporter: you know, it is quite a scene out here. if you take a look to the right you can see the fire hydrant was completely shorn off the sidewalk. that is where the car slammed into it. if you walk to the side of the building you can see there is a hole there. a motorist struck the fire hydrant at 50th and san leandro street. witnesses say a man in his 20s appeared to be intoxicated. but tests need to confirm that. the driver received minor injuries. he was very emotional as he was handcuffed and taken in an ambulance. the volkswagen he was driving hit garcia tire and bait shop. they leave they live nearby --

they believe they live nearby. no word on how much it could cost to fix the store. live from oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. secretary of state john kerry is in south korea to discuss the ongoing threat of north korea. >> the united states and public of korea both want to see a peaceful cover january peninsula. that means it must be free of nuclear weapons. >> kerry calmed the daily rhetoric out of north korea unacceptable. and said the u.s. will if needed defend its allies. the latest threat they have input coordinates of targets into missile war heads and ready to fire. u.s. officials say however there has been no sign of military movements in north korea that would back up the threat. investigators say a game of

chicken cost the life of a 14- year-old boy in san lorenzo. deputies say he was walking on the railroad tracks with two other teenagers when he was hit and killed by an amtrak train. that happened around 6:40 last night. investigators call the death of a tragic accident that didn't have to happen. >> i don't know their definition of the game of chicken is. it's usually when kids jumped out of the way in the path of an on coming track. >> a 15-year-old boy and girl were shaken but not hurt. trains had to be delayed and rerouted. it's a story you will only see on two. a ten-year-old girl sexually assaulted at an office building in daly city. ktvu obtained this surveillance video of a person of interest. he reportedly went there shortly after this week's

alleged attack at a nearby office building. the girl was at the office for counseling. her therapist let her walk download the hall to the restroom. as she unlocked and opened the door a man came in behind her and followed aeroand molested -- followed her and molested her. >> having three daughters myself, i would not let that happen. >> that was the child's uncle. police say the suspect may have been a passenger in a tan car, possibly a honda or toyota with an asian woman driving. the attacker is described as a slender asian man between 18-25 with a mustache and many facial moles. he walks with a limp and may be developmentally disabled. the parents of 15-year-old audrey pott say she took the

photo after -- now they hope the boys who are facing felony charges will be prosecuted as adults. >> the family hopes these boys are brought to justice and that they face the gravest consequences that they can. regardless of their age. >> the case has drawn comparesons to a sexual assault case in suen vail, ohio. storm may be in one of two vehicles. a black audi on the left or green kia seoul on the right. both were stolen wednesday and

thursday. by a vote of 68-31 the senate voted to move forward with the debate. some family members of the victims of sandy hook shooting are on capitol hill. supporters say it will be a struggle to get 60 votes on the actual gun control measures. >> the nra will try to throw all kinds of amendments at us. we'll have to work really hard to prevent them from being added to the bill. >> the first legislation up for consideration would expand background checks for gun buyers. the senate will also discuss to ban assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines. people in newtown, connecticut are sr. celebrating the decision to move forward with gun control debates. they had vowed to remain here for 24 hours or until the senate voted to end any possible filibuster.

the group says lawmakers need to remember that guns are killing people every day. and the proposed gun legislation is having an effect all across the country. including here in the bay area. they have never seen stocks so low and demand so far. z half of a thorough fare in the south bay will shut down due to major road work on the bart extension. signs are posted warning drivers to expect delays. crews will work from 7:00 in the morning to 7:00 at night monday through friday. the the project should be completed by 2017. today is walk to work today. and san francisco is first city to celebrate. mayor ed lee plans to meet up with nine city supervisors on his walk to work.

happy friday. a little bit of patchy fog. yesterday temperatures came down and settled in there. the fog continues to go down the coast. not really moving too much inland. and again it seems to be confined on the san mateo, santa cruz coast. 60s coast. near 70 around the bay. few upper 70s inland. some of that low cloud deck continues. it's not solid a little chill in the morning air. a lot of 40s and 50s. i've seen about 50. that is one observation. i've seen another one closer to that. napa 43 degrees. a little bit of a breeze means temperatures are up. if it's not it's cold up there in the mountains. a series of a little system

otherwise a little chilly in the north bay. 60s and 70s. time right now is 4:42. unattended baby left in the car by her mother is now in the custody of her father. it happened wednesday afternoon at the marina square shopping mall in san leandro. around noon witnesses saw the unintended baby and called 911. the four-month-old was crying and sweating profusely when they got there. >> she admitted she knew the child was there and also said the widow was down. thinking it was okay. but of course it's not. >> luckily the baby was not hurt. in court yesterday the judge ordered 30-year-old chan to have child safety counseling. chan will have to return to court in three weeks. two employees are out of a job for sharing pornography and gambling on the job. 15 additional employees also face discipline including

suspensions andy suspensions and day motions. >> the advertise workers were using employee time while looking at pornographic images and gambling. more bad news for carnival cruise line. the center for disease control says the ship carnival fascination failed a federal health inspection. the agency reported live flies, dried food, and salad bars not protected by sneeze shields. carnival is now fixing the problem. two years aveburyon stow was badly -- bryan stow was badly beaten the trial is under way now. they beat stow in the dodgers

stadium parking lot on opening day of 2011. stow suffered major brain damage. sanchez and norwood have pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges. this week's stabbing attack at a college remains in suicide watch. 20-year-old dillon quick is a deeply disturbed young man who had fantasies about stabbing people since he was a child. he is accused of 14 people at a college on tuesday. two of those victims are still in the hospital this morning. there is an update to a breaking news story we first reported on mornings on 2. both central and state inspectors are investigating the bus that crashed and two people. 42 people including the driver were rushed to hospitals. but officials say good samaritans kept the casualty toll from getting worse opinion an amusement park security guard heading home was the first on the scene.

>> i thought she was dead. i reached down and rubbed her shoulder and she said oh i'm alive. and when you are ready to move me just let me know. >> this was the second deadly crash involving the 65-year-old bus driver who's in serious condition this morning. the federal investigation could last 12-18 months. there has been an increase in ammunition sales ever since president obama began pushing for gun control legislation. that has led to a nation-wide shortage of bullets. many police agencies and gun shop owners in the bay area say they have never seen the supply so low and demand so high. one gun store in south san francisco are receiving a quarter of its regular shipment of bullets. >> we are just a local retailer. everyone that is above us law enforcement agencies, military contracts that have first plug on the ammunition makes it hard to receive any trickle down

retail. >> the shortage is also effecting bay area police agencies. some are waiting up to a year for ammunition depending on the caliber of bullets. time is 4:46. mark zuckerberg is launching a new political group. the organization will be called forward us. zuckerberg says it's committed to immigration reform, improving education. as a social welfare group they can get involved in politics as long as they don't campaign a specific candidate. the california academy of sciences in golden gate park are celebrating a new arrival and you can help name him. you can submit names through the end of the month. the zoo staff will narrow it down to three names. the person who receives the winning name will get a behind the scene look at the colony.

american idol is making history. >> lizaro you're at risk of elimination. amber you are safe. >> last night the judges decided not to use their only save to keep laziro on the show. that means for the first time all of the idol finalists are female. >> he's just those girls are just so good. it's the girls season. >> for the past five seasons a male contestant has taken the american idol crown. the next few weeks will be a tough battle. each of the five ladies can take the top five. you can watch all of the american idol action right here on ktvu. next weeks performances will air wednesday night beginning at 8:00 followed by the results show on thursday. it's a story you will see

only on 2. police hope a photo will lead them to the thieves that have been targeting one san francisco neighborhood. there have been at least five home burglaries in the city's forest hill area since late february. two of the crimes took place this week. the gardener of one victim took a cell phone picture of three women that walked away from a home. police are taking a closer look at that picture. >> it will be disseminated to all police officers throughout san francisco. and that picture will show distinct body descriptions and officers will be doing calls in that area. >> police are also asking the public to take a look at the picture and they are urging anyone with information on this case to call them right away. deputies in humboldt county are trying to find out who shot an arrow that seriously injured a horse. here's a picture of that arrow. the owner says she left her horse cash in a pasture along
