a train. we're at high school where students and staff remember the teenager. >> reporter: it's been a tearful morning here at the high school. grief counselors and school psychologists are on hand all day to help students cope with the loss of 14-year-old austin price. a makeshift memorial started early this morning right near those train tracks. >> we love you, miss you, you'll always be in our hearts. amen. >> reporter: about a hundred students started the day with tears remembering austin price. >> he was a good student, always nice to everybody, loving person. >> reporter: the sheriff aest department is saying the 14- year-old was playing chicken on the train tracks when the train hit and killed him. >> he's still my best friend. i really miss him. i'm going to miss him a lot.

>> i'm sorry to kick you out under the circumstances. it's not safe. >> reporter: many walked to and from in this area. officials spent time making sure students stay off the tracks and away from the train. the principal will review train safety with all students, something the school has had problems with for many years. for the rest of the day, the staff and students are focusing on healing. >> students are dismissed from classes to grieve. we have memorials set up on campus. they're signing cards, writing posters, expressing themselves. >> we try to stay student centered and respond to the various needs of students to make sure we have the things that they stand in need of at this time. it will take them quite some time to deal with the tragedy. >> the vigil took place this morning close to where the teen

was killed. school officials are trying hard to keep students out of the dangerous area. the principal will let them keep austin's locker as a spot to reflect until the end of the school year here. reporting live, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thanks for that report. >> three teens were under arrest with connection of the sexual assault of a high school student who later committed suicide. awe dropout took her own life days after someone posted the assault on facebook. victims say she was sexually assaulted at an unsupervisorred house party last fall. she was drunk and unconscious when it happened. her parents call it cyber bullying at its worst. they hope the suspects will be prosecuted at the full he is. >> the family hopes they face the gravest consequences they can regardless of their age.

>> they face two felonies and one misdemeanor each. kt is following the story and will bring you more on ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. a death threat prompted a school to lock doors and cancel classes. investigators are trying to determine if it was a hoax or threat. >> this morning the principal of the high school stood outside the locked gates of the campus with the school board president and police letting people know there would be no school. parsons said she wouldn't have felt safe today . >> i don't know, better safe than sorry. >> reporter: the decision to cancel classes came overnight. at 10:00 p.m. a student called police about an anonymous post on facebook that threatened violence. >> basically saying the person was going to school tomorrow and shoot it up. if you go to school tomorrow, you will die. >> reporter: at 2:00 this morning the superintendent and

principal made the decision to shut the school down. word of the threat was tough to take. >> like oh no, please not. it was hard to hear it. you know, my hopes is its nothing serious, more of a hoax than anything else. we need to air on the side of caution. >> the school sent out emails, activated the phone tree. the handful of people showed up anyone. no one the school board president talked to questioned playing it safe. >> not one negative comment from parent or kids. the parents have been driving up and thanking the police department for being here and being out, being visual. we have officers at all four school sites to make a presence known. >> reporter: police expect this investigation could take a while. on monday morning, the principal expects to unlock the gates and get everyone back into classes. she says when they come back, they'll sit down with students

and staff to talk about what happened. ktvu channel 2 news. the fire hazmat team is on scene. half an hour ago, a fire spokeswoman told us testing was underway at the lumber company. the call came in before 9:30 this morning. firefighters found a 27-year- old man with nonlife threatening injuries. 12 were evacuated. it started when a forklift driver accidentally punctured something that may have contained toxic chemicals. chevron released the investigation report of the fire last august. that concludes a five foot section of steel pipe failed because of corrosion leading to a leak that trig you ared you -- triggered the fire. individual carbon steel

component piping with can did corrode at an accelerated rate. you can read the full report on ktvu.com and ktvu health and science editor will bring us reaction to chevron's findings at 5:00. san francisco says one of the historic streetcars was in a chain reaction crash involving several vehicles 90 minutes ago. you can see the damage from news chopper 2. this just came into the newsroom. the car stooped quickly at a stoplight setting off the chain reaction accident involving four cars. nobody else was hurt. the f line has been shut down in the inbound direction toward the ferry building in fisherman's wharf. outbound traffic is not affected at this hour. today san francisco residents left the car keys at home, locked up bikes and put their feet on the ground and walked to work. brian is live in san francisco

this afternoon. brian, the first of this kind of event as the city announced new ideas to keep pedestrians safe. >> reporter: that's right. good afternoon. san francisco is a walkable city. there's been a handful of pedestrian accidents over the past few years which is why on this walk to work day, city officials announced plans to make pedestrians safer in the years to come. >> san francisco first of all isn't a car city. it's a 19th century city, built on the pedestrian scale. >> reporter: san francisco is the first city to launch walk to work day in the nation. the goal was to walk 15 minutes to work. some walked miles. >> we went from holiday plaza. this is something some city supervisors did this morning. >> in 20 '01 -- 10 years, by 2021 we should cut pedestrian fatalities and injuries by half, 50%. >> reporter: on the steps of city hall, lee as well as city

supervisors announced the plan to keep pedestrians safe. 20 were killed last year and 7 this year. >> we've got to do experimenting in these areas along with a proven program to increase safety. >> very sadly 20 lost their lives last year walking in san francisco. to that end and with the support of board of supervisors, there's a full staffing plan for the police department. >> reporter: some details were released today including updating 44 miles of streets giving pedestrians extra crossing time city wide, upgrading curb ramps and opening crosswalks. >> sometimes walking is the most sustainable form of transportation but dangerous for people in a busy city like san francisco. >> reporter: this plan will take time and money which the mayor says will be around $338 million.

in terms of that funding, the mayor has identified a third of the funding source. he acknowledges there's still a lot of work to do. funding would go towards greater police department reinforcement. >> thanks for that report. in south korea today, john kerry said nuclear north korea is unacceptable. kerry's comments came in a news conference with the prime minister. he says the united states is willing to talk to north korea but only if they're serious about considering the end of the the nuclear weapon program. on this side of the building and on the other side of the building. >> more from an employee after a bizarre car crash at his work place yet again. meteorologist mark working now in the weather center with numbers. he has a weekend forecast with a lot of up, downs and talking

a free mont home was gutted this morning by fire.

firefighters worked to put out the flames. as you see the roof was heavily damaged. the fire broke out around 7:00 a.m. flame spread to the home next door. two adults and five children made it out safely as did three of the family's four dogs. one dog is unaccounted for. the cause of the fire is under question. take a look at burning shrimp boat off the gulf of mexico. another fishing boat in the area at the time rescued the three crew members on board. no one was injured. firefighters responded and contained contain claims. the cause of the fire under investigation. pay suspected drunk driver -- a suspected drunk driver crashed his car. oddly enough, it's not the first time something like this has happened. it took place on 50th avenue. police say at 2:15 this moshing the driver slam into the fire

hydrant. it sent water spewing down the street and created two holes in a building flooding the store. the driver appeared to be intoxicated. the owner's son says this is the second time someone crash into the hydrant. he says the intersection is no torously dangerous. >> everybody hit running the light, hitting pedestrians and police chases. >> someone has crashed here before? >> yes. on this side of the building and the other side. >> the driver was not hurt but taken to the hospital for observation. he may face adui charges. the garcia scrambled to pump the water out to open for business. police say at 2:15 this morning -- we just talked about that this morning. investigators are telling us about a financial aid scam at a community college. it happened in san pablo. county prosecutors say a couple

in rich land recruited 20 people to apply for financial aid. the couple allegedly took 25%, $675 of the more than $2700 the students received in financial aid. the students never went to class. criminal charges have been filed against everyone involved. final preparations are underway for a gun show at the palace. huge crowds turned out for the last one in january. promoters are expecting another big turnout this weekend. gun shows have been very popular in recent months. that's due in part to push for tougher gun laws. it lead to a crack down. california gun laws could lead to fewer shows at cow palace in the future. winters has died. he wases aconspired among others, robin williams and jim carrey. he had his own show in the 1960s and a frequent guest on late night talk shows.

he played robyn williams' son in a movie. he died at his home in santa barbara of natural causes. he was 87 years old. a 15-year-old is alive after falling into a lava tube in hay him. it happened at hawaii volcano's national park wednesday night. the boy reportedly tried to jump over the railing with volcanic steam vent. he fell in the hole with hot rocks below. his mom called 911. he has bumps and bruises but was otherwise okay. everyone seems to be talk about last night's dodgers padres game. tempers flaired and turned into a costly brawl for the dodgers. >> it hit him. now he has something to say. look out here. aj ellis got out there just as they got together. >> the padres carlos quinton

charged the mound after he was hit in the 6th inning. the dodgers $147 million man lowered his shoulder and ended up with a broken collarbone. the fight was justified because he had hit him in two other games but those were in 2008 and 2009. after the game, dodgers in the park lot were confronted carlos quinton and had to be separated by police. athletics won their 8th straight game last night defeating the los angeles angels. they have outscored 65-24 during that eight game streak. tigers are in town. they'll play the a's today again at the coliseum. and great weather for a ballgame tonight. we'll have the forecast coming up for you in a little bit. for now, we have clearing sky, patchy fog, patches near parts of the shoreline. here's our roof cam looking

taking a live look at big board. down 21 points. stocks holding modest losses, a day after the dow and s&p touched record highs. the city of san jose is holding a naming contest for the new baby falcons. we told you last week the female falcon is a mother for the fifth time. this is a new video from today, the camera on top of city hall where the falcons are living. you can see the momma feeding her three young offspring. you can submit entries for names names. the san francisco zoo gave the public the first view today of the new baby tiger.

a very protective mother carried her cub around the zoo's tiger exhibit as delighted school children looked on. this is the first day the 8 8 week old was put on display. the female cub is now strong enough to venture into the outdoor enclosure. allowing it too explore the outside world is a significant step in her development, they say. a man caught a python with his bare hands. cell phone cameras caught it autopsy. the tour guide jumped out of the boat and caught the python. he said pythons don't belong in the every everglades so he jumped on it. >> didn't realize it was 10 feet.
