passengers' reactions and concerns. >> reporter: some passengers told us they felt a slight jolt. others didn't feel anything at all. everyone we talked to was definitely frustrated by the four hour delay. we talked with passengers as they arrived at the jack london station in oakland about 2:00 this morning. >> this was a coast star light rain with close to 200 people on board. it came off the tracks north of fremont. no one was hurt. amtrak said the train was going slowly at the time because it was in an area where tracks cross so only the front wheels of the front engine derailed. none of the passenger cars went off the tracks. >> another engine had to be brought in to get the train moving again. there took several hours. in the meantime, they were stuck on board. >> some said the crew didn't do a good job of keeping them

updated. >> they didn't really, they weren't properly handling the information. people went from being like very happy train passengers to very unhappy train passengers. it as shame. this train was coming from la, its final destination is vancouver, canada. >> i asked a spokeswoman this morning what triggered the derailment. she said the cause is still being investigated. >> coming up at 7:30. why amtrak passengers on the derailed train weren't allowed to get off and continued onto the destination. >> in oakland, alex savidge. ktvu, channel 2 news. this injured 16 passengers. the bus left the park and veered off around 6:15 p.m. chp said for some unknown reason, the driver lost control. and it rolled on to an embankment and tossing passengers out of their seat. >> the bus driver was not hurt.

>> one tour guide on board suffered minor to moderate injuries. >> they are investigating what appears to be a double shooting. >> emergency crews responded to an urgent call near shane drive. that's near the hilltop mall. a man and woman were shot in a car somewhere else and able to drive to a safe location to call for help. two hospital helicopters air lifted them and no word on their conditions. >> richmond police cordoned off the scene and looked for evidence. this family is demanding answers from police about what happened. they held a vigil near dyer street where amos smith was killed. they say they shot smith because he pulled a gun on them. smith's family wants to know why he was pulled over in the first place. they are working with high pro he file attorney john burks.

endangerment. and she he told a car last month after a woman left the key insist the ignition. the women's 11-month-old daughter was in the back seat. the girl was found safe after a five hour search and shut down highway 101. police say it is not clear whether she knew the girl was in the vehicle when it was stolen. the man who punched another man on campus could be a cal student. this is a sketch of the suspect. they hope they will help identify him. he is possibly a transfer student from junior college. he approached a person who was at the booth. the two had a disagreement and the suspect punched the other person, knocking him to the ground. the suspect ran away and was seen near the south side. john kerry is in japan for the last leg of his japanese tour. >> ktvu is live in the newsroom

that's near the hilltop mall. we're told a man and a woman were shot in a car somewhere else, but they were able to drive to a safe location to call for help. two hospital helicopters air lifted them to the medical center. there is no word on their conditions. richmond police cordoned off the scene. you see them there. they spent a few hours looking for evidence. a derailed amtrak train caused four-hour service delays. only ktvu has video of the train pulling into oakland at 2 this morning. alex savidge is live with passenger reaction and concerns this morning. alex. >> good morning. good news is that no one was hurt when that train, that amtrak train left the tracks last night. it was coming from l.a. but got stuck near fremont, and didn't end up arriving at the station in oakland until four hours late. it was about 2:00 this morning when it got here. this derailment is actually still causing issues for passengers this morning. i'll tell you more about that in just a moment. but first, here is the scene in

fremont last night, where that coast star light train with close to 200 people on board came off the tracks at about 9:00. amtrak says that only the front wheels of the first engine actually derailed. none of the 11 passenger cars went off the tracks. but it took a while to bring in a new engine and get that train moving again and get it up to oakland. and passengers didn't arrive here until just about 2 in the morning. obviously, this delay was aggravating for the people on board. >> and the train stops, and this guy came back and said it was derailed and he didn't know how long it would be. i don't know, it's four hours to get here. we were stuck 20 minutes away. >> so the derailment is still causing problems this morning. i want to show you the sign that's up at the jack london station, warning people that the capital corridor trains will not be stopping at both the hayward and the fremont stations. at least for this morning. and an amtrak spokes woman told me the particular section of

track where the derailment happened last night is not in use, and so, buses will be put in place and that will get people where they need to go. also, asked the amtrak spokes woman exactly what may have caused last night's derailment. she says crews are working to figure out what triggered that derailment. live in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu, channel 2 news. a yosemite tour bus crashed last night injuring 16 passengers. the bus was leaving the park when it crashed in the oak hurst area around 6:15 p.m. the chp says for some unknown reason the driver lost control while going about 40 miles an hour. the bus rolled onto an embankment and hit a tree tossing passengers out of their seats. 15 visitors and one tour guide suffered minor to moderate injuries. the only person who wasn't hurt was the bus driver. tomorrow we expect to hear from the family of a south bay teenager who committed suicide an after alleged sexual assault by three teen boys. police say 15-year-old audrie potts was attacked after falling asleep at a drinking party last september.

her family says she became upset when she learned that photos of the attack were circulating within her high school. her family is expected to hold a news conference to discuss how they learned about the incident. they also want to raise awareness about sigh ber bullying. a vigil for potts is set for friday evening. the three 16-year-old suspects are scheduled to appear in court on tuesday. a san jose woman is in jail this morning charged with kidnapping an 11 month old baby girl. carla hernandez was arrested friday on suspicion of kidnapping, child endangerment and drug possession. they say hernandez stole a car on amador drive last month after a woman left the keys in tig anythings. the woman's 11 month old daughter, was in the back seat. the girl was found safe after a five-hour search that involved dozens of officers and shut down highway 101. police say it is not clear right now whether hernandez knew the girl was in the vehicle when it was stolen. u.c. berkeley police say the person who punched a man on campus could be a cal student. this is a sketch of the suspect. police hope someone will

>> that was video news coming directly out of france this morning. a former texas justice of the peace has been arrested in the investigation of a district attorney's death. authorities have charged eric williams with making terrorist threats. investigators searched williams' home in conduction with the shooting death of texas district attorney mike mcclellan, his wife cynthia and an assistant district attorney. williams has not been named a suspect in any of those deaths. fbi acts investigating the deaths also searched a storage unit near dallas this weekend. they have not said who owns the unit, or exactly what was found inside. four people are facing murder charges in the killing of nevada's chief insurance examiner. the body of 62-year-old william ma kuhn was found last week in the carson river. according to court documents, 20-year-old michaela black more said he h. she drove three men and waited outside for them. she says she watched the three

following the derailment last night. this was the scene near fremont, around 9:00 last night, when that train went off the tracks. it was a coast star light train that had close to 200 people on board. amtrak tells me that it was only the front wheels of the first engine that actually derailed, none of the 11 passengers. passenger cars, i should say, went off the track. and in the end no one was hurt. but it did take a long time for a new engine to come in and get that train moving again. passengers who were coming from la didn't end up arriving here in oakland until 2:00 this morning. >> it was a long, long time. and i feel like they didn't really -- they weren't properly handling the information. i feel like people went from being like very happy train passengers to very unhappy train passengerrers, and it's a shame. >> and this is the sign that is up here at the jack london amtrak station, warning people the capitol corridor train will not stop at the hayward or fremont stations for the time being and a bus bridge has been

put in place. i asked the amtrak spokes woman this morning what may have caused last night's derailment. she says crews are still investigating, trying to figure out exactly why that train left the tracks. live this morning in oakland, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. a bus heading from russia to paris went over a highway bridge this morning. it happened near the city of an twerp in belgium. five people have died so far. survivors say the bus crashed through the guard rail and plummeted over the highway bridge. it's unclear what caused the accident. investigators report no visible skid or brake marks. a passenger jet that crashed in the resort of bali remains in the water this morning. investigators in indonesia began work today to determine what caused the aircraft to overshoot a runway and land in the sea as you see right there in the video. the plane snapped in half and will now have to be towed to a nearby beach. fishes have already recovered the flight -- officials have already recovered the flight data recorder. divers are looking for the cockpit voice recorder located in the plane's tail.

and are waiting for results. dr. harrington has waived his rights to a hearing on the suspension of his license. a full hearing before the oklahoma board of dentistry is set for august 16. a dead whale is drawing people to a beach in washington state. it washed up south of seattle yesterday, and people have been showing up to see it. it's believed to be a fin whale which can grow up to 75 feet in length. fin whales are the second largest species of whales. they are endangered and rarely spotted in puget sound. >> this is our natural world. this is what happens, and it's pretty amazing that people get a chance to see up close one of the largest whales that could be in the -- you know, in the puget sound area. >> marine mammal experts are trying to figure out how the whale died, but they think it may have been hit by a ship. this morning the sonoma county coroner is working to identify two people killed in a ferrari that crashed. the accident shut down highway 1 on the sonoma county coast for more than six hours yesterday.

the chp says it appears the driver of the ferrari lost control while speeding, and hit a tree near skaggs spring road. the car burst into flames, killing the driver and passenger. >> there were two individuals in the vehicle. we have no idea of sex or anything like that. but they were killed pretty much instantly. >> the heat from the fire was so intense, they say it actually caused the car to melt onto the asphault. the crash also caused a small brush fire that was quickly put out. this morning, the chp is also investigating a fatal crash on highway 101 in navarro. the chp says the driver of a silver honda was killed last night after crossing all lanes at a high rate of speed and crashing into a concrete overpass. the car burst into flames. the accident closed the off- ramp to highway 37 for about three hours. and caused a minor backup on highway 101. navarro police are looking for three people suspected of robbing a police at gunpoint inside their own home.

police say two men and a woman broke into the house on canyon road about 6:30 friday night. vest gays say they ransacked the house, took some items and drove off in a white hid 1990s ford f 150 truck. the victims weren't hurt. police described the suspects as one is said to be a white man 6 feet tall with blond air and a goatee. the other man is latino, 5' 10 with a heavy build and brown hair. the woman is described as a latino with background hair and a heavy build. all three are believed in their 30s on wednesday a senate committee will take up a new bill meant to curb payday lending in california. senators jim bell of san jose and hannah beth jackson of santa barbara are backing the bills. it would not allow more than four high interest loans to customers in one year. cable car accidents have cost san francisco millions of dollars. public records show the city paid almost $8 million over the past three years to settle

dozens of legal claims. the latest serious accident happened two months ago, when five passengers and two workers were injured when a bolt caused their cable car to slam to a sudden stop. cable cars average an accident a month. now, in a statement mayor ed lee said quote the iconic cable cars of san francisco are a national historic landmark and we work every day to make them safer. we're learning more about the deal that ended the san francisco symphony strike two weeks ago. as part of the agreement the musicians receive a 4 and a half percent salary increase over 26 months and also includes changes in healthcare benefits. last month several concerts were cancelled when the musicians went on a nearly three week strike in a dispute over salaries and benefits. in a few hours, the group code pink will hold a protest against what they call killer drones. this is video of code pink preparing for a previous protest. today's protest begins at noon with a march across the golden

high clouds up to the north. these clouds will be knocking on our door by this evening. probably by sun set into late tonight. as far as current numbers updated for this 9:00 hour, see lots of 50s out there. saa rosa right now, 54 degrees. oakland at 56, and redwood city at last check, reporting 52 degrees, with mostly clear skies. winds right now not too much of an issue, but a bit of a breeze developing. fairfield 10 miles per hour, at sfo, winds out of the west at 14 and half moon bay winds right around 20 miles an hour. stronger wind near the immediate coastline and throughout the day today winds will be strongest right near the shore line. 2 and 3:00 winds easily topping 30 miles an hour, towards pacifica, even half moon bay, and then into the evening hours as well. but the strongest winds still yet to arrive. in fact you can see the reason on the satellite here, we have a system up to the north and to the west. this will reinforce the cooling for today and bump up the winds speeds to 25 to 35 miles an

hour. the eventual track, monday basically north and east of the bay area, not a lot of moisture, but there is the chance of a light shower or sprinkle, probably while you're sleeping late tonight into early tomorrow morning but definitely, this bumps up the wind speeds. we could have winds approaching 50 miles an hour, and there is a good chance, not an issue just yet but we could have a wind advisory kicking in. possibility of downed trees and and extra carefully especially across the bridges. for tonight, more cloud cover, possibly a few sprinkles late tonight into early monday morning, and then you'll notice this forecast model tries to generate showers to the east of the bay area. we'll have to keep an eye on that for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. temperatures this afternoon, cooler than yesterday. so today will be the coolest day of the weekend. warmest locations in the upper 60s to right around 70 degrees. and look ahead. your five-day forecast, definitely more wind for your monday and the chance of a light shower or sprinkle tomorrow morning. mostly for the early morning hours. cold air remains in place.

up a large caliber handgun from a booth and accidentally pulled the trigger while pointing a gun at a display. the bullet hit two other guns sending schrapnel into the air. two were injured, including one man hit in the eye. in the bay area promoters expect a large turn out today for a gun show at the cow palace. the event opened at 9 this morning. there have been long lines to get inside. many people are worried about tighter gun controls. firearm dealers are reporting an ammo shortage as people are stocking up in anticipation of new and stricter laws. the n.r.a. is circulating a petition against a state proposal that limits or ends future gun shows at the cow palace. the next show is set for late june. there was a sharp contrast yesterday, roughly 6 miles away in south san francisco. that's where 250 weapons were turned in for a gun buy-back. people received $100 for a handgun, shotgun or rifle, and $200 for an assault weapon. besides the cash, some people said safety was one of their

main reasons for why they turned in their guns. >> my husband is an ex-police officer. so we had a weapon that we don't want to have around the house anymore. >> congresswoman jackie spear hosted the event. money for the buy-back came from her as well as contributions from several peninsula cities. a mall in virginia has reopened this morning following a shooting at a community college. two people were injured when a student opened fire friday at the new river community center, located inside the christianberg shopping mall. an off-duty security guard and two police officers took down the 18-year-old after he opened fire. >> it was a hard decision. you know, when to open, if we should open. but we thought that it was probably a good thing to -- to try and get back to normal, and people have been turning out. so it is nice to see that they're here. >> a student and a mall employee are recovering from their injuries. the community college held a prayer service yesterday for

those victims. tuesday marks six years since the virginia tech shooting massacre. as it does every year, the university held a remembrance run to mark that somber anniversary. hundreds of people took part in yesterday's event. on tuesday, flags will be at half staff on the campus, and a statewide moment of silence will be observed. 32 people were killed in the 2007 campus shooting. a florida police officer has been fired for making what officials call shooting targets of trayvon martin. port canavarel police say sergeant ron king pulled out the targets during shooting practice at a gun range with other officers. they're about 50 miles southeast of sanford, where george zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old trayvon martin last year. zimmerman's trial on second degree murder charges gets under way in june. in long beach, a homeless man is facing attempted murder charges, spec'd of setting a man on fire while that man sat in his s.u.v. outside a 7-eleven store.

this is some disturbing cell phone video that you see right there of the attack. a witness says that the homeless man threw a bottle into the s.u.v., and it instantly went up in flames. people standing by immediately pulled the 63-year-old victim out of the car. but that man suffered severe burns over most of his body, and is in critical condition now. police say they do not have a motive and right now the attack appears to be random. a nebraska bus driver is out of a job after being caught on camera attacking a passenger. this is video of the attack, showing the driver, troy fisher, hitting passenger torrance rose at least 17 times. that's before dragging rose off the bus, and then throwing him into a lane of traffic. police say rose was new to the area, and was asking fisher questions about the town. they say fisher became annoyed, which triggered the attack. he is due in court next month. the actress who played pippy longstocking has reportedly been arrested in walnut creek. timmy aaron was arrested

thursday in walnut creek for assaulting her roommate. the case is being reviewed by the district foreign for possible charges. you might remember aaron started in the 1988 movie the new adventures of pippy longstocking. >> and tomorrow, kool-aid is unveiling its new look for the big red mascot. this is the image that has accompanied the flavored powder mixes, but starting tomorrow, that will be replaced with a high-tech computer generated image. the company says the mascot will also have more of a personality. but it says the new mascot will be keeping the well-known shape of the old one. some bay area parks are clear this morning, thanks to dozens of volunteers. earth day might be about a week away, but yesterday was the 16th annual pg&e earth day restoration and cleanup project. at candlestick point in san francisco, dozens of volunteers helped clean up the national recreation area. they cleared vegetation, picked up trash, and built a planter, you can see right there, and it all went into the points
