situation, good afternoon, tara. >> reporter: this has reverberated with the golden state warriors and he has come ayer h and it is a first for professional sports. jason collins appearing on the upcoming issue of sports illustrated. he said i am 34 nba center, i am black and i am gay. coliseum lines rights i didn't -- collins rights, i did not set out to be gay but since i am, i am happy to start the conversation. i wish i was not the kid in the classroom saying i am different and i wish somebody else did but nobody else did which is why i am raising my hand. he had to say. >> this is why in this situation, these players are at

ago released information about a stabbing of an off-duty police officer which happened during a brawl outside the vine nil -- vinyl nightclub which started as a verbal confrontation and escalated to 50 people fighting. several people were also injured including a woman who was cut on the back of her head by a thrown bottle. the search for a man who stabbed an eight-year-old girl to death is underway. many people are still struggling to understand. good afternoon alex. >> reporter: they say at this point, investigators don't have a clear motive for this attack that happened over the weekend. it happened inside eight-year- old leila fowler's home write up the road where you can see it is still blocked off by a

highway patrol man. they are working to track down this killer as people try to make sense of what happened. sheriff's officers patrolled outside the elementary school. leila fowler was a third grader here. here killing over the weekend has parents trying to reassure their kids they are safe. >> it makes kids wonder could this happen to me and we need to assure them, it is not going to happen to you. >> reporter: there were hugs and tears as kids arrived for class. brief counselors will be on hand meeting with students who need help processing the sudden death of a classmate. >> you have to be as supportive as you can and let them know school is a safe place for them to be. >> reporter: this attack happened saturday afternoon.

the intruder stabbed her inside her home and she died later at the hospital. her 12-year-old brother was the only other person home at the time and came face to face with the attacker. the man was described as hispanic or white with long gray hair. they have launched a manhunt but have come up empty so far. they are asking for witnesses to come forward. they dropped by a substation and talked about a man he gave a ride to, a man was covered in blood. >> something was wrong, he was -- there was just blood everywhere all over his arms. >> reporter: crime scene technicians are done collecting evidence at the girl's home and they have collected fingerprints and possible dna evidence that will be processed at a federal crime will be a. but they have discussed this case with the fbi and federal agents are not actively

was found in the waters, north of fort brag. firefighters quickly contained a small grass fire which started in walnut creek. they burned two acres and they never threatened any buildings and some are saying a transformer may have caused the fire. a severe outbreak of valley fever. they have told a federal judge that the prisons should be shut down amidst what he calls a public health emergency. valley fever causes flu-like symptoms and can be lethal. 62 inmates have died from the disease in the last seven years. investigators are trying to determine if other people were involved in the bombings and

. at least 35 people are hurt after a powerful explosion in a building in the czech republic. there are no reports of any deaths but at least three people are still missing. right now emergency crews are trying to find people who may be trapped underneath. an investigation is underway but they believe it may have been caused by a leaky gas pipe. agents are working around the clock to try determine if the two boston marathon bombers acted alone. so far they have not uncovered any evidence that anybody else was involved. much of the speculation centers on tamerlan tsarnaev and dzhokhar tsarnaev's mother and whether she played a role in radicalizing her sons. >> now we must find out who
