good morning, everyone. welcome to the mornings on 2. it's sunday may 5. we will check in with rosemary with a quick look at your weather. we were talking about the change in temps. it was dramatic. >> 180 but it came late in the day and for many areas warmed near 90 degrees for the inland spots. the cool down has kicked in and the winds have kicked in and they are kicking this morning. a wind advisory for the san francisco peninsula coast all the way down into monterey. this is for the entire day. won't expire until 9:00 this evening. wind gusts 45 to 55 miles per hour. also includes the mountains. santa cruz mountains. this could be troublesome for anyone planning a drive along the coast line for today and downed power lines could be a possibility with wind gusts this strong. we will take a closer look at this we are looking at a cool down around the area today. i will have a look at the numbers as well coming up. saturday night out ends in tragedy on the san mateo

bridge. five women were killed and four others are in the hospital this morning after the limo they rode in last night burst into flames. we are live this morning at the bridge with pictures of the fire and the damaged limo and new information you learned about the victims. reporter: well, so far i can tell you that the five women killed in this fire last night involving this limousine have not yet been identified. chp right now trying to figure out what sparked the fire. what is clear is that this limousine was not involved in an accident of any kindtouch was actually headed here to foster city from alameda coming west across the san mateo bridge last night. that's where the chp says this car burst into flames mid-span. this was just after 10:00. witnesses snapped these photos of the flames shooting from the rear of the limo. investigators say there were a total of ten people inside at the time. driver and nine passengers. five women who were riding in that limo were unable to get out and died in the fire. four other passengers survived with burns and smoke

inhalation. and the driver was not hurt either. he pulled the limousine over and was able to get out. investigators have filled out the fire started in the passenger compartment and not in the engine. but beyond that there is still a lot of questions. >> at this point we don't know. we don't know how the fire got started. therefore we don't know what type of crime if any. reporter: and this morning the chp identifying the driver of that limo as 46-year-old orville brown of san jose. investigators of have released names of the four surviving passengers as well. all of those women from the bay area. meantime, the investigators are not putting out the name of the limo company that owns the car that was involved in the fire last night. again, no accident involved here. they say this limousine simply caught fire in the middle of the san mateo bridge. investigators trying to figure out exactly why. we will bring you updates when we get them from chp this morning.

live this morning at foster city, ktvu, channel 2 news. a limousine was involved in an injury crash in oakland. happened around 12:45 this morning in the area of pancraft and seminary avenue. a car ran a red light and smashed into the limo sending it into a traffic pole. there was no one inside that limousine except for the driver. he was treated at the scene. two people in the other vehicle were seen running away. police say the car was a rental. new this morning, fire investigators working to dernl what sparked a house fire on treasure island. we are live in the newsroom with details and new video. firefighters tell us there were no injuries. but it was a battle this morning as flames engulfed the townhouse on treasure island. san francisco fire responded to the call around 4:00 this morning. the department has a station on the island. and the crews arrived you can see the flames pushing out the

second story window at avenue b and sturgeon street. one man was home at the time. he got out unharmed. firefighters contained the fire to the one unit. however, a cat did die in the fire. >> two alarm was called just because it's customary. >> now firefighters were able to contain the fire and an arson investigator is on scene which is common procedure for a large fire like this. we will check back in with investigators and post the latest on ktvu.com and our twitter feed. in san ramone, couple is grateful to be arrived after a fire destroyed their home. flames were spotted around 4:30 between two homes on lexington place. a neighbor shot this short video before he was evacuated. one house was destroyed by the fire and dozens scrambled to save the surrounding homes. house on the left only sustained some damage to the roof and garage. all my family and my

friends and my dog immediely and that's what counts. >> julia hall lived in her home for 25 years. her and her husband will rebuild and that many of her neighbors are offering their help. one firefighter suffered a minor back injury. it was the only person hurt. officials say the fire started in the carport. in napa it took 40 firefighters to control fire sparked by a lawnmower that struck a rock in the middle of the afternoon. the fire captain said the home owner should have pulled out hismoer in the morning to avoid the winds and dry conditions. fire burned three acres near ciewnsville road and jack's lane. typically napa, the hottest dryest part of the year is in september. and to have fires at this point and have the heat we've had in may is -- in early may is very scary. >> cal fire battled three fires last week. biggest outside of calistoga burned 125 acres. in southern california firefighters are getting the

upper hand in ventura county. more than half of the 28,000-acre fire is contained. firefighters say the calmer winds are helping them make the progress. at one point that fire threatened thousands of homes. 15 homes were damaged but all evacuation orders have been lifted. more than 2,000 firefighters are still working to contain the fire. >> it's a lot of work to be done. a lot of hard manual labor that will need to happen out there. >> firefighters hope to have it fully contained by tomorrow. cause of the fire is still under investigation. it is a dangerous job and already it has been a deadly season for abalone divers. a diver died yesterday after getting out of the water in salt point state park. it is the fourth time in the past week that an abalone diver has died off the coast of sonoma and mendocino counties. last weekend three divers died in separate incidents in the water including a retired firefighter from pacifica and a man from san francisco. be abeny diving season started april 1. downtown san jose will be

buzzing today. tens of thousands of people are expected to show up for what's billed as largest cinco de mayo party in southern california. police will set up patrols to maintain o. although violence marred previous celebrations, last year's party was peaceful. several streets will be closed today including fourth and downtown market streets and a large section of king road. and hp pavilion will be packed for tonight nhl playoff game between the sharks and vancouver canucks. game starts at 7:00 p.m. there will be a street rally outside tafarena at 5:00. and fans are encouraged to take public transportation to reduce the congestion. fans may want to arrive early because there are increased security measures in place. law enforcement throughout the bay area are warning people not to drink and drive. there have been numerous dui checkpoints in weekend. avoid campaign includes saturation patrols as officers

check for drunk drivers leaving cinco de mayo celebrations. supporter will use this holiday to push for reforms. immigrants rights groups will march down oakland's international boulevard. plan to hold a rally in celebration at 2:00 p.m. marchers are demanding full citizenship rights to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in the u.s. i ran out of the house this morning and found myself running back in to get the sweatshirt. i didn't think it was going to be that cold but you said it was going to drop. i didn't think it was that drastic. it was chilly. >> 180 with the weather. boy, is it breezy in some areas. talked about it at the top of the hour. even a wind advisory for the coast as well as the mountains. san francisco into the coast line down into santa cruz. the winds are breezy in many places and giving you a look there at the mostly cloudy skies just a little peek of sunshine there. livermore one of the only areas waking up with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies for mostly cloudy across most of the bay. winds 5 to 15 miles per hour in

and around sfo, oakland, napa, fairfield a brisk start if you are thinking about heading out to the farmers market this morning as mike mentioned you may need that jacket. 17-mile-per-hour in mountain view and the gusts are stronger than this. we will mention again if you are just joining us there is a wind advisory for the coast and all the way from san francisco down into monterey. gusts could reach 45 to 55 miles per hour a little bit later this morning and into the afternoon and that's when i do think we will be at their strongest for that to be aware of if this is your destination or where you will be. giving you a look, the system now that is bringing on this rapid change. boy, it took its time getting here yesterday. we expect the temperatures to be slightly cooler. but it really took until late in the afternoon for those onshore breezes and the cooler air to kickism here we are. 57 degrees now napa. 57 santa rosa. mostly cloudy skies and some of us waking up a little warmer than yesterday. 62 in oakland.

upper 50s in hayward. areas like antioch as well as fairfield that started in the low 60s and ended up near 80 degrees within a couple of hours. you're feeling a difference this morning. i think the wind is going to be pesky for today. the temperatures are going to be a lot cooler and partly cloudy skies and we may have seen the satellite radar shot maybe even a sprinkle. the better bet will come monday into tuesday. but with those mostly cloudy skies and the atmosphere moistening up a little bit, we will be squeezing out a sprinkle. seeing it in and around monterey. mid-70s in fairfield for the afternoon today. 70 santa rosa. upper 60s for san rafael. low 60s san francisco. 69 in oakland and into the santa clara valley 72 for you san jose. a big difference from yesterday. the extended forecast here cool, breezy for today. perhaps a spotty shower. but again i think monday into tuesday we will get a better chance at maybe a few scattered showers. temperatures continuing to fall. we will get a rebound as we get

view of the san francisco skyline. going to be a cool, breezy day for you. wind gusts at golden gate park 16 miles per hour. the coast guard is searching for four sailors who set out on a trip from hawaii to california. that group hasn't been heard from in days. coast guard says group left honolulu for long beach on thursday but concerns started to grow when both the coast guard and friends lost contact with the sailors. last contact anyone had with them was friday night. the coast guard is now trying to track a possible satellite phone signal that was picked up about 460 miles northeast of honolulu. and divers have found the body of rancho cordova man who drowned in the american river. 23-year-old christopher hair was -- harris was found 9:30 last night. harris tried swimming across an inlet without a life jacket. according to witnesses he was halfway across when he started having difficulty. he disappeared in an area that's nearly 20 feet deep and crews say the thick silt at the bottom also made the search difficult. it took them hours or four

hours to find his body. referee in utah has died after being punched by a 17-year-old soccer player. 46-year-old ricardo was attacked during a game last weekend. police say a 17-year-old player in a recreational league punched him in the face after he made a call that angered the teenager. police say he slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness. >> it's not fair. he was a loved person. everybody loved him. >> the 17-year-old is being held at a juvenile detention center on suspicion of aggravated assault. police say he could face additional charges. there is a new development in connection to the boston bombing case app friend of one of the suspects who was arrested last week is asking a judge to release him. reporter david lee miller is live now in boston with what the

19-year-old's lawyer are alleging. reporter: 19-year-old defendant here is now in federal custody. he was in court last week. he is charged with essentially lying to investigators. lying to fbi agents. not once, not twice but three times about entering the dorm room of dzhokhar tsarnaev. they over the weekend attorneys for the defendant filed a motion asking for bail, a hearing is slated to be held tomorrow. the motion gives a laundry list of reasons that the young man is not a flight risk. among them it states he has never been arrested and born and raised in the boston area and extensive family here. goes on to say he is not charged with having any knowledge of the bombings or helping the suspect and not charged with destroying evidence and interestingly he was on leave from school and had not been in contact with the two other suspects in this case for the past two months. and then the brief goes on to say and i will quote it here, it's only sheer coincidence and bad luck that he had to attend

a seminar on april 18 and presumably it was that seminar that brought him in contact with the other suspects here and led him astray. you might recall that this is the same defendant who was admonished by the judge last week. the judge told him, quote, during the hearing, i suggest you pay attention to me instead of looking down. the attorneys say the conditions of his bail might very well include a gps monitor of some type and limited restrictions contacts with other individuals. again, the hearing slated to take place here in boston tomorrow, 2:00 in the afternoon. thank you so much for that report. david lee miller reporting live from boston. and a new york police have been organizers are ramping up security for the city-wide bike tour. more than 32,000 riders are participating. you can see them going there in the city streets. and in preparation police say

it's helicopters are up over the tour and it's patrol boats are stationed near some the bridges. officials say a number of sharp shooters are in position along the route. >> what went on in boston i think it's a good idea and we can't let things like that stop us from doing things like this i'm okay with the additional security. >> officials say the boston bombings have caused security to be tighter than it's ever been in the 36 year history. foundation building of 9-11 museum is announcing it will charge an admission fee. operating costs are estimated to be $60 million per year. and officials say an admission fee will help cover expenses. the ticket will cost between 20 and $25 entry to the memorial plaza will still be free. the museum is set to open in the spring of next year. the pilot and passenger of a small plane walked away without injuries after making an emergency landing in a highway. the plane landed on wide median

of state route 125 and in the city of santee. pilot says the plane experienced engine trouble after takeoff. he told investigators he had no choice but to land on the freeway. owners of the texas fertilizer plant that exploded last month may have to file bankruptcy. the blast at the west fertilizer plant killed 14 people and injured more than 200 others. it all causes tens of millions of damage to the surrounding area. lawyers say the plant's insurance policy has $1 million in liability coverage. state and federal regulators are trying to figure out what caused it. benicia city employees may have to wait until next year to get a raise. the workers have agreed to extend their contracts for another year and forego pay raises to save the city money. city employees have taken cuts the past two years helping the city save about $2 million. the city council could approve the contract ex2e7bgs on tuesday -- extension on tuesday. law enforcement agencies are calling on the wireless industry to help with cell phone thefts.

san francisco district attorney has met with officials from apple and google and he is planning a meeting now with samsung. he wants companies to create a kill switch that will permanently disable stolen smartphones. almost one out of three robberies nationwide involve cell phone theft. a night with rock and roll legends. rolling stones are in the bay area tonight. why fans should be prepared for a few surprises at tonight's show. it's a mostly cloudy, cool start and some areas of the bay it is whipping with winds. we will take a look at what to expect for your area coming up. especially along the coast line where we have a wind advisory for the entire day. winds are going to gust to 45, maybe 55 into the afternoon. in fact let's show you what i think it will be windy. picking up gusts to 33 miles per hour to half moon bay. notice the wind signs up here showing you exactly how fast depending on the color. so we are looking at winds increasing as we get into the late morning and early afternoon. i think by 1:00. notice the oranges are off the coast line. down along the stretch just south of monterey we have pretty windy conditions. this is a sustained wind. so when you see the yellow and thinking 20 to 30, the gusts could be anywhere from 5 to 10 miles above that between 1:00 and 4:00 we will see this strongest winds. the wind advisory doesn't expire until 9:00 this evening. you can see by the evening hours the winds die down. so again the wind gusts going to be at their strongest. mid- to late morning through early afternoon and then dying down as we get into the evening

hours. meanwhile temperatures are a lot cooler today under mostly cloudy skies. temperatures anywhere from 5 to 10 to 15 degrees cooler than yesterday's highs. leaving in the possibility of maybe a sprinkle today but again i think i will chance of getting rain is monday into tuesday. i will show you the rain in future cast model coming up. more rain could blai a factor in the nascar race if talladega. heavy rains washed out qualifying for the sprint cup race. that means the field will be based on the first practice speeds from friday. that puts carl edwards on the pole for today's race. you can watch that race right here on ktvu. we will be ending mornings at 9:00 to bring you live coverage from talladega. oakland orville arena is rocking tonight with the sounds of the rolling stones. the rock legends are making their first stop in the bay area and no telling what kind of surprises they have in store for fans on friday night in

investigation is underway this morning into a fatal fire on the san mateo bridge that took the lives of five women trapped inside that limousine. welcome back to mornings on two. there were a total of nine women riding in that limo that caught fire overnight. five were killed and four others injured and it's still unclear what went wrong. ktvu is live on the bridge and what we know. reporter: well, good morning. what we know is this was not an engine fire. the chp says the fire started in the passenger compartment and it clearly spread quickly because five women riding in that limo last night were killed in this fire. we will show you exactly where

it happened. mid-span on the san mateo bridge. this limo was heading here to foster city from alameda when it burst into flames. the chp trying to figure out what sparked the fire that broke out after 10:00 last night. we do know this limo was not involved in any sort of an accident on the bridge. witnesses snapped photos of the flames that were shooting from the rear of the limo. investigators say there were a total of ten people inside at the time and that includes the driver and nine passengers. the driver noticed smoke and stopped the limo in the middle of the bridge and he was able to get out unhurt. but five women who were riding in the back of the limo were unable to escape and they all died in the fire. four other passengers all women survived. >> two of the pass jfers were transported to stanford. two were transferred to valley medical sender and they were all transported for smoke inhalation and burns. >> and this morning the chp has identified the driver of that

limo that caught fire as 46-year-old orville brown of san jose. investigators have put out the names of the four surviving passenger all of those women from the bay area. in the mean time investigators this morning are not naming the company that owns that limousine involved in last night's deadly fire on the san mateo bridge and the chp is not saying exactly where that limousine was staying other than saying it was coming here to foster city last night when the fire broke out. live in morning in foster city, ktvu, channel 2 news. uc berkeley student will be layed to rest today. 23-year-old jose gonzalez was in the eastbound lane two weeks ago when his car stalled just passed the high-rise section. his car was rear ended by a bmw which was then hit by a third car. the chp says the crash is being investigated. a funeral for him will be held today at the crypten and flynn chapel. we were finding out more about a deadly shooting and crash in richmond that we told

you about yesterday right here on mornings on 2. happened at 7:30 yesterday morning on chancellor avenue. police say man was driving his suv in the area when he was shot. his vehicle then crashed into a home just about two blocks away. a home security camera shows part of the suv smashed right through the fence. the bottom right of your screen. home owner says he was a few feet away when that actually happened. >> the guy was still alive. he died later. >> car bumped into the side of my house and started shaking in that moment. and that's when the camera how it really scary. >> police say the victim is an asian man in his 40s right now they do not have a motive or any description of a gunman. police say there has been an increase in homicides in the city in just the past few weeks. residents in north oakland will be hold be a community meeting to talk about a spike in violent crime. councilman organized the

meeting tomorrow night at north oakland senior center. two recent homicides and home invasion robberies near childrens hospital have residents concerned. he says residents have the right to know if police are doing about the crime. a deputy police chief, captain and neighborhood services officer will be at the meeting to talk to residents. some oakland residents are hoping neighborhood walk pagetrols will decrease crime. patrols are made up of residents that come together to walk their neighborhood and goal is to deter robbers with the city facing the worst robbery surge in 20 years, the patrols are making a comeback. urging home owners to improve lighting and build relationships with police. investigators in calaveras county are taking a second look around the home of eight-year-old layla fowler for a second time sheriff's deputies are canvassing the subdivision where the girl was stabbed to death last weekend. officers knocked on the doors of 300 homes yesterday look to interview residents hoping to find new clues. >> we are following up a lead. we are narrowing the focus of

our investigation. and i'm confident we will find out who did this. >> investigators also used metal detectors to search the grass around fowler's house which is still considered a crime scene. her family is not been back since the attack. close to 2,000 firefighters are working to get control of a wildfire. the fire has burned 6700 acres northeast of chico since it started four days ago and right now just 30% contained. firefighters say wind gusts have made that fire hard to fight and they are also concerned about possible lightning strikes. cal fires says three firefighters suffered minor injuries but they are now out of the hospital. and firefighters continue to battle fires across the state, cal fire wants to make sure that everyone is prepared this fire season. today is the first day of wildfire awareness week in california. cal fires reminding home owners to clear 100 feet around their hopes and have an evacuation plan. we have new information this morning about a fire in hillsboro that damaged 7 homes friday night. investigators now saying that

damage will probably reach the $1 million mark. seven homes were badly damaged and a pool house was destroyed. no one was hurt in the fire and firefighters are still trying to figure out what started it. >> san jose fire department is giving away free smoke alarms. yesterday east san jose in east san jose crews were installing free smoke and carbon monoxide protectors. smoke detectors save lives and say not having smoke alarms is a common reason house fires can turn fatal. >> tough to swallow when you see that an entire family gets killed or two or three people get killed because they didn't have a detector. yesterday a 38-acre brush fire burned through field near a mobile home park. two people were treated for smoke inhalation. firefighters say smoke alarms can often be the first signal a grass fire is burning nearby. starting tomorrow, bart says it will ban riders who commit crimes on trains or in stations. the list including harassing other riders, urinating in

again this week. forecasters say water levels won't be as high as they were last month. in northern italy, crews are cleaning up after a powerful tornado just two days ago hit the same area that was devastated by an earthquake last may. tornado injured at least 12 people and damaged hundreds of buildings. many farmers were out working on their land and were forced to take shelter when that tornado hit. there are new questions about who should pay for the rescue of two teenagers who got lost in the southern california wilderness last month. that multi-day search for 19-year-old nicholas and 18-year-old kendall jack cost $160,000. the orange county sheriff's department originally said the hikers would not be billed for the rescue effort. but it's now reconsidering the deschtion change of heart comes after authorities revealed there was methamphetamine found in the car while they were searching for the pair. and the recovery effort at the site of the collapsed garment factory is getting more heart breaking by date. this morning that death toll

involved in an accident it just for whatever reason burst into flames coming west across the san mateo bridge last night. the fire just raced right through the passenger compartment in that limo, killing 5 women riding in the limo. chp trying to figure out what sparked this fire. witnesses driving bye snapped these photos of the flame shooting from the back of the limo, investigators say there were 10 people inside, the driver and nine passengers, the driver noticed smoke so he pulled over and stopped the limo on the limb. he was able to get out, but 5 women riding in the back could not and died in the fire, 4 other passengers survived as well. the name of the company is not being released as investigators have a lot of questions after this deadly fire. >> at this point we don't know.

san francisco fire says 1 man was home but made it out unharmed, however a cat did die in the fire. that townhome is located there, crews contained it to one building. they said it could have been more dangerous had it started in the lower level. >> in southern california firefighters are getting the upper hand on a wildfire burning for three days in ventura county. the fire is 60% contained. firefighters say calmer winds are helping them make progress. at one point the fire threatened thousands of homes. 15 homes were damaged. evacuation orders have been lifted. more than 2000 firefighters are still working to get full control of that fire. >> still a lot of work to be done, a lot of hard manual labor that is going to need to happen out there. >> firefighters hope to have it contained by tomorrow. the cause is still under. in napa it took 40 firefighters to control a fire sparked by a lawn mower that

out on town ends in tragedy on the wednesday. alex savidge joins us with more. >> reporter: this fire raced through the passenger compartment killing 5 women in the back of the limo, not yet identified by investigators. the chp says this limo was not actually involved in an accident. it just burst into flames as it was coming across the san mateo bridge last night. the fire broke out after 10:00. witnesses snapped photos of the flames as they shot from the back of the limo. investigators say this fire appeared to have started in the passenger compartment, not related to the engine, at least what is what they say at this point. the chp says there were ten people inside at the time, the driver and nine passengers, the driver noticed smoke and stopped the limo mid-span on the bridge and he was able to make it out unhurt but five women riding in the limo were

unable to escape and died in this fire. four other passengers managed to survive. >> two of those passengers were transported to sanford, two were transported to valley medical center and they were all transported for smoke inhalation and burns. >> reporter: we are learning more this morning bought the six -- the five people who survived the fire. the chp is identifying the driver as 46-year-old orville brown, investigators have released the names of the 4 passengers, all 4 women riding in that limo all from the bay area, the chp says the limo was heading to foster city but it is unclear where those women were going. i reached out to them for updates hoping to hear back from them later on this morning. in foster city, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> in an unrelated accident overnight a limo was involved
